People have storages for their personal items, except for a few in the trunk. Having a gym membership to take a shower and do your skin routines etc will do wonders. Most people also get car washes and vacuum out their cars. Most gas stations have free vacuums. Just because a person is living in their car doesn't mean they have to look bad. You can still take care of your hygiene, wear make-up if you want, and look the part. Trust me, I've been there. I wish you well.

Thank you, I am going to do a video car tour on this very soon because this question has been asked quite a bit. But basically, I am a minimalist so I have very few items and have purposely tried to keep my belongings to what is needed. I don’t have a bed and use the front seat for sleeping. All items are well organized in the trunk, with a few necessities in the back seat. I don’t like clutter and I try my best to maintain cleanliness in any environment that I’m in. ☺️🙏🏽

Hey! I'm Prophetess Kennethia and I'm homeless too in Asheville. I was attending a church in Greensboro when I lost my apartment, and they didn't help at all! Single with 2 kids! God moved me to Asheville after I lost my apartment, and we lived in a hotel or slept in our car until 2 weeks ago. I ran into a pastor here in Asheville over the Red Cross where we were at, and he placed us in a women's and children's shelter. It's very nice here, and the people are God loving people who are willing to help us get back on our feet. Thankfully, I have a good teaching job, so I'm just saving to get a place next year. I'll be praying that your situation gets better very soon. 💜
Lastly, God has directed me to start a women's and children's ministry built off my own suffering and process.

We live in a society that believes there is shame and blame attached to being impoverished, abused, sick or homeless . Unfortunately the church is part of this society. We have become a name it, claim it faith. If anyone is struggling then, like Job, they will be questioned, accused and judged. Another part of why a church doesn't help is that suffering is unattractive and they simply don't want to be associated with the real. May God Bless you ❤. I've been where you're at. Keep your eyes on God. Nothing and no one else will give you hope, comfort or salvation.

I went through a similar situation with a church regarding a job that was open. I put in the application, did the interview and gave them my resume. They told me that I would be notified within a week and given my situation there was a good chance that I would get it. I was homeless and struggling but I was trying my hardest to be better. By the end of the day after I had my interview I got an email saying that they have selected another person. Turns out, they hired the pastor's daughter. Eventually all the pastors children we're hired into the church and it became a family business. Mind you that the church is fairly big and well-known within the city I live in.
I was also told about the benevolence application and when I applied, I got an email asking me where my tithes and offerings were. And am I still member because they don't have an updated payment record. I was so hurt because I was an active member in the choir, teaching the literacy class, in the singles ministry etc. I got more help from people in the street outside of the church.
    My prayers are with you.

@@barbarapeller No, I'm no longer at that church. This was in 2016 and I was struggling, between homes and I had asked the church to pray for me because I was going into a major surgery that was very risky. When I asked for prayer one of the ministers emails me back and asked me was I still a member there cause they don't see my tithes and offering record. Well, I went into my major surgery, but that was the last time I willingly stepped foot into that church. I did go back last year in 2023 only because my godmother passed and they had her funeral there and I was on program. But I haven't been back since before then or after.

Sorry to hear about your interaction with the church. For the most part, many churches only help their members and that is limited. They do not help to solve the problem. I am not criticizing but speaking truth. The smaller churches usually do more than the larger churches. Just know, God is a God of his word. He will do what he says, but it will be in his own time. Sometimes, it seems like he is too slow in answering our prayers but if we wait patiently for him; he will work miracles in our lives. I know it’s hard to wait when we are in a difficult place. God sees you and he hears you. Wait on him.❤❤

Also, we have a benevolence program with an application to be completed. This gives a full picture of your situation and needs and makes sure it’s documented that every applicant is reviewed and treated the same, whether approved or declined. One of three biggest challenges for the church right now is the needs of the community are great so there has to be parameters set.

I am 68 years old and have been church ALLL of my life. Not only in church, I worked in multiple areas of the church, I started singing in the choir (couldn't hold a note) because mother made us. I went for singing to ushering, to assistant secretary to secretary of the church and Sunday School, to assistant Mission leader, to evangelism, to nurse's aide to the pastor to assisting in the kitchen serving during funerals. I started out in a little church in MS, to two mega churches in Dallas and not ONCE have I ever asked a penny from the church. I always participated in titles and offering, to whatever funding going on, even buying Christmas gifts for secret Santa families at the church. I said all of that to get to here. I have lost all hope in churches, I put zero trust in pastors, yes, even my own. I still attend church, I still give as I have always done, so why do I feel this way? The only thing I have asked was for my pastor to come when I called him (only twice in the almost twenty years at this church) when I was very sick, didn't ask for anything else, and he never came, he sent someone else. I was taught in my younger years, that the church should be the first place you should be able to go to for HELP! Jesus established it, where the sick can be healed, and He meant healed from whatever a person is dealing with. The Bible also speaks, in the latter days, there will be lovers of SELF, a great falling away, you can't tell a Christain from the world. I am very disappointed in this church, although not surprised. I had waist length hair and three weeks ago, I cut it all off. I made a vow before God that every time I looked in the mirror at the head, it would be a reminder to put ALL MY TRUST IN HIM AND HIM ONLY! I wish you the best and let me say, I know how it feels to feel alone in a full world, but God is able, and He is faithful, keep trusting in Him even when you can't trace Him. P.S. Forgive me for the long post but your video, got to me.

Church leaders' goals these days are to get their church membership role as big as possible with the most glamorous facilities that the members can finance. Caring for its members and the community that builds it up comes last. God commanded the church to care for the sick, widowed, elderly, imprisoned, downtrodden, and especially its own members. Also God uses your brothers and sisters in Christ to uplift you, not only in prayer but as an answer to those prayers. So they can miss me with the "we'll be praying for you." I stopped tithing to "the building fund" a while ago and started giving that money directly to people who really need it.

    Hello,
Some things you said put me in mind of a situation that I went through. Years ago I worked for the airlines and they had went through many periods of layoffs and I had always hoped it would never happen to me. I prayed and thought that I am a child of God...surely he would not let me be laid off knowing all of my responsibilities, and I am HIS child.....but I was laid off and I could not believe it. I went through a period of depression feeling alone.
But I wasn't alone God was with me even through all of this. I had to be reminded of the scripture let no man think his self higher than he ought.
I was listening to your video and would like to encourage you. Praying with you and for you that you will be able to find a job and get help with the items you are in need of for living in your car.
Unless the church is a non profit organization they do not have the funding to assist with a list of needs, have a list of what do offer assistance with and have a set amount of what they do help with. I doubt that they have singled you out and chosen not to help YOU per say..
I am glad you did not list the name of the church nor the assistant pastors name. You stated they always smile at you them smiling does not mean they have obligated their selves to you in anyway. It is good to smile at people, shake hands, greet one another, be welcoming more than likely they extend this kindness to EVERYONE.
You stated the assistant pastor told you about an opening and you interviewed but did not get the job. Though disappointing there were obviously other applicants that had interviewed for the same position and they choose this person. You became upset thinking you had been wronged but no one promised you that you would get the job they did not go back on their word.
I hope you will forgive them.
On another note. I was watching Bob on CheapRVLiving ua-cam.com/video/4EG8emcdVP0/v-deo.html
He was interviewing a lady about her home on wheels and she said she received help and Bob listed the website on his page. So I wanted to share with you. I don't know what they may be able to do for you but why not reach out.

You may have someone who might offer a room in their home, but really there is not much they can do. They almost always refer you to local homeless services. And they always put tithe-paying church members first on their list to help, as they should. Even Catholic charities do not help in the way you're expecting. I knew of a Catholic charity that paid partial rent directly to an apartment complex. They wouldn't give the person anything directly. There are too many scammers out there. Most churches just don't have the resources to house people...but your pastor knows you personally and may be able to offer you temporary help and keep an ear out for housing for you. Like another supporter said in the comments at best, you may get a hotel room for a few nights from an outside pastor. They may be out of money now but they will have a new budget in January. Oh, also go to your state social services. In my town they do help people with deposits. Unfortunately, in larger states, there are so many people living in their cars that they can't help everyone. I'm praying for you. Tell everyone, you never know who can help. The benevolence application was to check to see if you are a member and/or a tithe payer at the church, if not you dont qualify. This is sad but very true. I'm not saying that this church operates like that but a lot of churches do. You will find more help from a small church with five people in it trying to keep the lights on then these big mega churches that runs and operates like a business. These were all “working homeless” / “car campers” some with insurance, pensions, etc… One of the interviewees mentioned that she broke down and had to let her doctor know that she was homeless for some paperwork. After that, she said, her doctor started treating her differently 😞 The same happened to me. I was sleeping in my car, the car broke down, and I had no one else and reached out to my supervisor. She helped a little but weeks later, I was let go. The stigma is real.

I am quit sure people wouldn't mind to help with the upkeep of the church while receiving assist.Churches could get more new members by assisting people with things they already have. As a fellow Christian, so sad, but sadly not surprising that you've been through this with the church. There seems to be a consistent, sizable gap between what the Bible says, how Christ Himself tells us to live...and how Christians *actually* behave. Even pastors as you have experienced. In all of that though, even while we as people fail God and fail one another all the time, God truly never fails. Keep putting your trust and faith in Him, keep praising Him, keep maintaining your positive attitude. I pray that one day soon all of this will become history as you step into your own warm, comfortable, affordable place, in Jesus' name, Amen!

I hate to say it but you are absolutely right so many people including myself stop believing in god. Seeing so many false preachers in the pulpit misleading their members. I can’t understand if there is truly a god why does he allow these things to happen?
Elderly, single mom, disabled and every day working class people are struggling. I know what it is like to be “unhoused” and can’t get help but help is giving to non American citizens. In California where I live all the help goes to undocumented immigrants.
I can’t afford nothing, I have no car , I just over came homeless after being unhoused for a few years and will be back homeless this time on the streets. Lost of income got me in this situation. I searched high and low for assistance but could find nothing . I have a child that is special needs. I myself is dying from kidney failure. I don’t care anymore. I have given up on life . Tired of struggling and god allegedly see my pain and he allows me to continue to suffer. Please don’t feel sorry for me only person I feel sorry for is my daughter, she don’t deserve this. She already lost her dad and her mom mindset is screwed up. I have accepted the deck of cards life dealt me, somethings I could not control and if I continue to believe in the lie that god made me into his likeness is a dame lie.

Is there not something like a room mate matching service available through a Christian organization or a church? I know how risky roommate situations can be but perhaps that is a little bit better than car sleeping?

The church is a business. They cannot run without maintaining that stance. Electricity etc costs. Furthermore the church can't help everyone in need. There's more need than resources etc. Megachurches can I suppose open the doors for sleeping but they have to have shower facilities etc. It's tough to accept. I do believe the church should ask for help from other members to supply the refrigerator etc.

      The church could
have given her something. They didn't do anything!! They could have given her a gas card, groceries, a gift card. Why wouldn't a church be prepared to help the homeless. There's a reason for their tax exempt status. Its not unreasonable to expect help especially when you're a member !!

The Church is also primarily responsible because they allowed these people to come into the pulpit but then didnt or wouldn't hold these people responsible for their wrong doing.
