I thank you for your frank advice. As an US businessman operating in Dubai, I agree fully that Dubai and UAE may not be the best place to live for an African and I don't say that with any bias. The abundance of natural resources all across Africa, the culture, the family structure is all there, be it in Nigeria, Ghana, DR Congo, Cameroon and the many places that I have worked for over 20 years. There is no place in the world that has so many resources as Africa...plus a young educated population that can make all the difference. All you need is good leadership that will use the resources for the people. Get rid of them and you will have a Dubai, or a Singapore or a Switzerland in Africa. Rwanda is heading in that direction. You said it well Ann...thank you.
Thank you very much and I agree with you. I believe Africa can be better and young Africans would not need to move around to other countries looking for greener pasture. If the leadership is better in Africa, Africans will not be treated as 3rd class citizens in other countries
Terrible leadership and corrupt governments is a global problem. It just varies in degrees and how blatant it is. It is very easy to say choose better leaders when you cannot control the choices or how other people vote. It’s basically saying nothing. @roystankemp1242 💯 it's all fake. Nothing but african prostitutes and replica buildings just built more ostentatious. The display of wealth is extremely concerning for such religious people. Feels extremely seedy. Once and never again!!! EVER!!
We need to start speaking up honestly! So a lot of our African brothers/sisters do not make the same mistakes as us.Dubai only regard and respect you, when you have a very fat pocket, which is honestly terrible!

@@laianepeixoto698 I don’t think I ever said I ran a red light. Until you drive in Dubai or own a car there you won’t understand. A friend of mine travelled to India for a month on vacation while he was on vacation with his car parked in his villa and his house locked and his car keys with him in India he received a fine of 1500AED. A fine dated at a time when he was in India with his car keys. He went to the court showed his flight ticket and the fine date showing his return stamp into Dubai and the court truly verified he was not in the country and it was a mistake. Instead of wiping the fine since it was an error the court told him sorry and said he needed to pay the fine and only reduced it by 40%. The traffic fines are a high revenue generating source for the govt, so even if you drive like god you will still get a fine maybe not as frequent as other regular drivers. The fine systems are so bad that most people deposit money into their fine account as they know they can’t run away from it so the govt just debits them whenever a fine occurs and they check the account every month. Everybody makes a budget of their monthly income reserved for fines 😂

American born and raised of Ethiopian descent. I moved to Dubai 7 years ago and love it. I’m an architect and make very good money however I came there with money in my pockets. Dubai is like everywhere else in the world , it’s a hard life if you are moving to a new country with little money and working servile jobs. Expensive is relative, I lived in New York Which is 4 times the cost of Dubai so I found settling in Dubai to be easy. I hope to one day expand business in Dubai where I can hire or collaborate africans and black Americans to help offer fair salaries. We need a community here to help each other. It’s a beautiful place if you have more assistance. ❤
Why do ppl always include Black Americans into their poor political plights. F. Y. I: Black America 🇺🇸 have the most riches & middle class ppl in the world 🌎. Asia, India, & Africa has some of the poorest but I hardly ever hear it mentioned. Gtfoh with that analogy of black Americans. I’ve lived in Dubai for 10 years now. Work in internal recruitment so I’ve seen the changes within the job landscape over the past couple years. The job market is very different from what it was before. It is very competitive, jobs are not as easily available as it was before. As an African woman living in this city, there is nothing I haven’t experienced. Racism, prejudice etc. There is so much I can say about this. This has been the place I’ve grown professionally and personally so I have a soft spot for it. However, it still has a long way to go. Such an informative video.
That's what I heard about the Racism. Anyways we have Middle Eastern companies here and they're horrible to work for so on that basis as bad as it is in the UK I'll pass 😂
Thank you for sharing! I totally understand what you’re saying. I’ve visited Dubai five times, and I love it there. Once, I went with my children and visited a salon where an African lady from Cameroon was working. She asked me, “Do you like Dubai?” I told her, “It’s a beautiful place. I love it.” She smiled and said, “Yes, for a holiday, Dubai is amazing. But living here is hard.” She also shared some of the struggles many workers face while working for others in Dubai. That conversation stuck with me, even eight years later-it’s so true. Thanks Ann❤

Thank you so much for this informative post. I was in the UAE this past Summer and i almost got fined as a tourist for sitting on the side of the women on the monorail in the Palm-Jumeirah monorail, but the guide at the station gave us a pass because we were tourist and genuinely didn't know. It does however make sense that all the things you mention are probably obvious because Dubai is very much a tourist destination instead of a place for settling and making a home out of it.
I have friend who is a surgeon in Dubai, he studied in Birmingham with me. I have been over a few times on holiday there and stayed with him. He seems to have better life/life-style than doctors & surgeons in the UK...

I live in Dubai currently and I like it, so my opinion and experience is overall good. However the video is very well structured and presents the reality in a very accurate manner. All important topics are covered, passports, cost, visa, laws. I've noticed many newcomers to Dubai breaking the rules of PDA, alcohol use, protesting (or trying to), I think when you are planning to move to a new place, you should get familiar with the laws first, so this video definitely would help someone!
Agree. I know everyone’s experience can’t be the same. It’s just that Africans don’t get the best treatments and opportunities out there. The discrimination against Africans is huge across the uae
This is one of the best and honest video l have come across on Social Media about one of the most beautiful Arab countries in the world that does have it"s controversial and hidden dark side that most content creators who are immigrants and combined cowards are fearful to touch on the reality of Dubai after living there for certain period of time even after evacuating the Country.
I agree this is one of the most transparent videos on Dubai from firsthand experience. I was hoping she would get into the darker topics of Dubai but understand it wasn't relevant to this particular topic.
The way you said if you want passport move to a other country as if m is so easy. You mean citizenship which is extremely difficult to obtain in Europe. Some people spendover 15 yearswithoutcitizenship@@Anniyonu

Why does everyone always leave out the fact that the UAE and every oil rich nation has a US military base on it. The Gulf nations are puppet states of the US, Israel, and Europe. US, Israel, and Europe sell Billion$$$ in weapons to the Gulf Nations, and the Gulf nations are used as military bases to kill tens of millions and steal the oil and other natural resources in Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Palestine, Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, etc.
Lol... You had better not move to California if you think that UAE is expensive. Here in LA, we have studio apartments that go for four thousand usd (14,000 aed) or more per month. Also, most people believe that you can not live in Dubai without a car but I found that I got around just fine without however, there is absolutely no way that this is possible here in Los Angeles. Ultimately, people should prepare and be informed before they move anywhere.
But atleast minimum wage in LA will be around 20$ per hr. Minimum wage in Dubai can go as low as 250$ per month. That is a 2 days equivalent salary for a minimum wage worker in LA
Studios in LA are under $2000 not luxury but regular. One bed +200. But housing is in short supply and Apts are getting harder to get into because of the renting criterias. You need $4000 a month just to have a basic life.
@@ElJn-u3d depends on what bracket you’re in most people pay between 17 and 27%, but in California you also pay an additional state tax and in Los Angeles a 10 1/2% sales tax. They are building the metro here, but right now nobody wants to take it because of all the crime and go homeless people that are on it all day long because they live on the metro also the stabbing and the shootings and the robberies, no thank you you need to keep your car, and then get a second job on the weekends!
So true! After living in the UK and America! Living in Dubai was interesting; but very expensive! I lived in the business district and it was really expensive. I lost interest quickly! I am light skinned, so I got a lot of compliments! They heavily discriminate against black people! They basically felt, I was American!
Black people deserve so much better than that, it makes me angry that people still in this day and age treat black people as inferior😤it really infuriates me even tho i am not black myself, i cant stand racism and black people have been thru enough racism already and its enough. Its getting old now, racism is so deeply rooted in people. Its sick and disgusting and needs to stop.
I’ve been living in Dubai for the past 6 years now, and I must admit it has changed a lot! Everything you spoke about in your video is accurate, except for the alcohol permit, it’s free now to get (for a non Muslim person). Dubai specifically, is a very fast paced, competitive and expensive city. Many people come and leave after less than a year because they can’t keep up. We work a lot (sometimes 7 days a week) and long hours. If you are looking for a relaxed life, this is not the place for you. If you don’t give a 110% at work, you will be easily replaced. I am here with my husband (no kids) and we both need to work or else we can’t keep up with the bills. Eventually we will leave, because no way we can think long term here. You can never think about a retirement plan here because the country won’t allow you to stay since they won’t give you a residency visa if you aren’t working. Best of luck to anyone who is planning on moving here!
Everyone needs more than their salary to be financial stable. The best thing to do with your money is to invest it rightly, because money left for saving always end up used with no returns.
Investing in alternate income streams should be the top priority for everyone right now. especially given the global economic crisis we are currently experiencing. stocks, gold, silver, and virtual currencies are still attractive investments at the moment.

same here, my husband was fined twice in Germany for parking ticket, and each costed 55 eur. so that's around the same price (60-70usd) that she said in the video
Yeah, she has no clue. She will experience the same or even worse in Germany. But hey, maybe they will offer her sooner the passport, she is longing for. But just because Germany is not as clever as the UAE.
That is enforcement, and it prevents people from running lights and causing accidents. From what I heard about Dubai, you do not really have to run a light, they know you have a car, and just want the revenue. At least in Germany you will be afforded the opportunity to go to court and let a judge hear your case. I am sure they do not force you to pay without a hearing. In some states in the USA we have a system that uses enforcement cameras. It is hard to dispute those when it has your car and plate # in the photo. However , people are given the right to challenge. Could be a legitimate reason why someone ran the light. And ,if a cop says you were speeding and gives you a ticket, you have a RIGHT TO A HEARING. ThAT does not exist in a place like the UAE from my understanding. The roads in Germany are a lot safer than in the USA, people here are speeding, reckless and often unlicensed and underinsured/not insured. Germany is doing the right thing. I been there and was told how expensive it is to even obtain a driver's license.
@@nt4081 I wouldn't agree on the US point, we all have seen online how poorly cops treat and discriminate black people. I would agree regarding Germany, but not sure, cause never heard about or experienced such a case.

Very informative video! The honesty and realization you put into this video may have helped someone. I’ve seen so many videos of people starting a business in Dubai, they never tell the realization of it only the glamorous side.
I’ve been in this country for a while now, and I can confidently say that much of what is said about it is true. One important aspect that deserves more attention is how full of opportunities this country really is. For those who are willing to work hard and hustle, the possibilities to improve not only your life but also your family’s life are remarkable. For anyone considering making the move, my advice is this: take the leap and step out of your comfort zone. This country has the potential to be a life-changing experience if you’re ready to put in the effort. It’s not just about the opportunities but also about the growth and the incredible community you’ll find along the way. Don't let fear hold you back-your decision to try could lead to amazing outcomes for you and your loved ones.

As important as it is to find a job, please do not pay to get a job or your own visa, or give your passport to anyone claiming they hold your passport for work. Make sure you sign a contract and keep a copy of your contract, make sure you learn your employee and customer rights UAE has a lot of laws and often it protects everyone especially you as an employee and consumer... but it is your responsibility to research learn and then report to the correct authorities... remember, law doesn't protect ignorance I didn't know or I was scared to lose my job is not an excuse in court. We need to start speaking up honestly! So a lot of our African brothers/sisters do not make the same mistakes as us.Dubai only regard and respect you, when you have a very fat pocket, which is honestly terrible!
And what is considered low income in dubai?
2000 dirhans? 5000? 10.000???

Thank you for sharing! I totally understand what you’re saying. I’ve visited Dubai five times, and I love it there.
I'm a Muslim but I can easily purchase alcohol in UAE, the rules regarding alcohol in the video was not correct.

I lived in Dubai between 2009-2012. So, things might have changed a lo since then. My experience is that they are more open about the racism, it's not hidden or subtle like in Europe. There is an established race hierarchy and people are aware of it. Also, I noticed that it mainly depended on your passport and your wealth. I'm black with east-african origins, but I'm also Swedish. A 50 yrs old man with a family of 5 kids and wife working for 400$/month, living with 6 other men in one room so he can send 150$ back home to his wife and kids. And he can even get deductions on that 400$ if maybe he speeds and incures a traffic fine.
Discussing with them really truamatized me 😢
😢truth be told
Not from Africa. But I think this info is really helpful for everyone thinking of going. ❤
Long story short: DON’T GO TO UAE!
Make the story longer.🗿😎
You rent is insanely high 7000 is a lot just live a little bit far and commute to work my rent is 2000 all bills included for a one bedroom in Sharjah if you want you can save a lot of money just be wise with your money
7,000 was quite affordable for me , with all bills inclusive and for a two bedroom apartment.
@@Anniyonu my salary is 8500 drh , and am an architct giiiirl you are rich if yor rent is 7000 drh
yes
@@esraadafaalla5757I think being paid 8500 dirham as an architect is too low for a country like Dubai.
A+ for all-round presentation and knowledge of topic 💐🌹👌🏾👏🏾
Sounds like you are holding back some of the "darker" issues of Dubai..... spill ALL the beans,,,my dear
Don’t want to hurt their feelings too much 😅
@@AnniyonuWe really need to know especially those considering moving there.
Very informative. Thank you very much and God bless you all 🙏
Thank you so much 🙏🥰
I’ve been to UAE 2 times now on vacation and I love it. It’s clean, I love architecture so just to go on a tour bus and look at the architecture is the best time ever for me, I’m coming from the uk so it being expensive, not for me I found it to be cheap for certain things. I did see a lot of my African brothers n sistas struggling but if you just pick up n bounce to a new country without a plan you will struggle. I am under on illusions of the seedy side of UAE, every country on earth had one .
With regards to dressing, personally would not wear shorts or short skirts, in fact I dressed modestly and wore an Abiya most of the time as a jacket over the clothes that I was wearing as I mostly shopped in the souks where the old skool generation were and they respected the heck out of me n my sisters because we dressed according to their traditions and I know even if I have in a bin bag I look fabulous af so it’s cool with me … I love Dubai and I love Abu Dhabi, that mosque is one of the most amazing g buildings I’ve ever seen and I’m not religious but if I lived there I would be praying in there daily it’s that beautiful … Dubai I see you soon 🙋🏾♀️
Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us 😁
Thank you for making this video.
The truth is always best. Thank you.
I’m from Canada & have never had nor do I think I ever will have, a desire to visit anywhere in Asia.
I feel safest on my own soil. (And even so, not as much anymore.)
Great video it was very informative and very detailed and helpful thank you so very much for this information!!! It give me a better prospective of what to look forward to and what my expectations are.
Glad it was helpful!
I’m an American man who visited Dubai for two weeks last year. I was so excited to ride the metro. When I got on there everyone was staring at me. I was so confused. Then one woman pointed at a sign. I was sitting in a women and children’s only car. No one ever mentions this in their videos.
I hopped out of there so fast. I’m glad I didn’t get into any trouble.
Dubai is nice, but I was tired of it after a week.
Lucky you.
You could have been arrested by the police.
Very informative. Thanks for sharing your personal experience.
I wish you could’ve said more specifics but still a good video appreciate the honesty
Each and every word said is TRUE TRUE TRUE!
My husband was raised in Dubai after his family left Jordan due to the war. He lived a very nice life there and his job paid for all accommodations, food, transportation, etc. He said his father was too proud to become a citizen (he is a Jordanian through and through), but those who do are paid an exorbitant stipend and are essentially taken care of by the government. I haven't been yet, but as a Black American, I assume his experience won't be the same as mine. I've told him this, but I still want to visit someday to experience his culture.
Everything that you said on this video is actually true about the UAE good job
I stayed 18 years in UAE yes it's expensive.
Anyway I chose to come back home because got bored in Dubai in last few years.
Ma'am stop calling Nigeria 🇳🇬 a third world country. Just call it an African country. Stop being disrespectful towards your kind. I have lived in the UK 🇬🇧 for many years. Trust me there are many aspects of Nigeria that are better than living in the UK but they will never call the UK third world.
It’s a 3rd world country
lol….stop being Emotional. I live in Nigeria and I can tell you for free. NIGERIA IS A 3RD WORLD COUNTRY. Infact, if there’s 4th world country sef, it is.
@@maryo1897it absolutely a 3rd world country. No emotions.
I agree! Stop calling us third world if it wasn’t for Africa the western world would not exist!
It's absolutely is . Period
"A lot of things you see on the internet, IS NOT REAL..." 💯💯💯💯❤️
Very clear, detailed and straight to the point video. Thank you
Thank you so much 😊
Glad it was helpful ❤
Next month would make it 5 years of living in Dubai and it has truly been a rollercoaster. I appreciate the opportunity but I think I have had enough! Moving to North America for better prospects in January
Wishing you the best of luck.
It’s not an easy decision to make to change your environment but I believe with stability and an environment that is welcoming you will do just fine
Cheers 🎉
That’s crazy . Been to Dubai many times and loved it, hope to live there one day for a bit
DUBAI is overrated!
Yeaaah if you can't afford it...
Been there three times on three different budgets. I done the lavish, the moderate and the downtown. I really tried to like it but I was disappointed each time.
Each to their own though (im from London).
@@elleJay-mb4yn I've been to London and I can pin points exactly why I don't like it (too many homeless, too many thieves, too many 🌈 flags where they don't belong like schools!, mostly not safe at night except for few places... fantastic weather though IMO) those are actual legit problems even locals may agree with me on.
The thing about people who hate Dubai is that they can't list legit reasons as to why they don't like the place, either they're too ashamed to admit that they can't afford it or they start parroting hatred hypocritical jealousy filled propaganda about "this people's rights and those people's rights", if anyone of them can list legit actual reasons I will respect that.
@@amerr9990 agree. London is an overpriced sh*thole. People are miserable, inflation, cost of living etc. has literally sucked the life out of us.
My reasons for dislike is literally comparative to countries in the Caribbean for example with its diverse marine life, rich mixing of cultures, turquoise waters and beautiful beaches. The decadence, materialism and superficiality might be alluring to some but it’s not my taste. Plus I feel like I’m in a city away from a city if that makes sense?
@elleJay-mb4yn so it's a matter of taste rather than actual problems, I respect that.
Im living in Dubai since 2022. It’s the paradise. I really appreciate it to stay here. God bless Dubai.❤
Thank you so much for speaking truth and taking care of your brothers and sisters!
Am glad I did 😊
Thank you so much 🎉❤
i lived in the middle east about 20 years ago. i wish you all the best. i was recruited as an expat into the middle east. its a very conservative culture and i am given to understand that about 75 per cent of the people in the UAE are expatriates that have no rights (!). even if you work for an employer and a local UAE employee makes a formal complaint about you (i.e. that you swore... or perhaps worse....) and they were offended can have serious consequences. my cousin was there on a huge contract in the medical profession and he was so shocked by a colleague in this situation (ie a local offended in the office) that he got as soon as he could. ive had tremendous positive engagement from muslims who i worked with. one has to absorb the culture and be respectful wherever one is. however one can have "culture shock" on location. ive learned to read write and speak Arabic and read the Koran whilst there so i have respect for the culture and islam. there are very few humanitarian rights so to speak for all unless you are a local
Thanks for the transparency !
Always!
