DJI Mavic 2 Vision Point of Interest - The BEST, yet least talked about feature

  • Опубліковано 22 сер 2018
  • I think I found that little gem in the app that seems to have gotten lost in all the buzz during the release. Point of Interest is nothing new to the DJI platforms, but POI required you to fly above the subject first, then create a radius to fly around. They have now DJI Mavic 2 Vision Recognition for Point of Interest, which allows you to build that radius without flying over the subject.
    I think this is huge for landmark and event videography because you are now able to get a reliable orbit around your subject, without burning battery and without flying directly over the subject. AN example would be an event where flying over people is not recommended or safe. Now you can fly from afar and still produce a very nice cinematic shot.

    First of all: Really sick intro, great job! Second, you don't waste your time talking about unnecessary things. You explain all of the things very crearly. The reason is that you really know what you are doing. This is something very important for all UA-camrs that do tech- reviews and tutorials. Third: I like that you include a lot of sample footage, not only in this video, but in all the others. All in all, i just want to say a big Congrats and I think you really deserve more views, subscribers etc. All the best!

    Wow thats smooth. If you raised the drone up higher before you started and put the x in the middle of the top of the building and then reduce height to do POI. Even though the way it did it seems ideal for non symmetrical POIs as it seemed to trace the edge of the POI...

    Great point on when to use this feature and when it may not be as good as the GPS setting. It is nice that we have both still available. - f11 - man, I can't wait to get the ND filters so that I don't have to be stuck at f11 on bright days. Great job. Really enjoying all of the information on the Mavic 2 Pro. Keep them coming! - I just created 8 LUTs for the Hasselblad color science on the Mavic 2 Pro. Thanks for the videos on the Mavic Pro 2. Just a tip for your videos, I noticed your running your mic pre-amp a bit hot. Try knocking it back a little on your input and using a compressor on your audio in post to smooth the peaks and lows and then just raise the volume to suit instead. Will make things sound a little bit more professional.

    The the head of a person or statue in Thailand are regarded as the most important part of the body. It is considered rude to touch a stranger’s head, as it would be in most countries around the world. It is also disrespectful to touch the head of a statue, especially a statue of the Buddha. Flying over a statue with the GPS POI can be deemed as disrespectful. I love the new feature, to standoff from the POI and still focus on it.

    Hi, great review of this new feature. When you drew your selection box - you didn't actually enclose the entire building, you drew a box around the "front" area of the structure only. Perhaps it may require you to enclose the entire building within the selection, to better calculate it's accuracy (as in the sample)..? Just a thought.. Keep up the great work!

    • @toadlguy
      @toadlguy 6 років тому

      Yes, clearly the demo shows drawing around the object. I think all his problems with a “larger” object are due to this. The software is trying to separate the object (in this case the building) from the background.

    Now imagine being able to zoom in on that library! Or any point of interest etc, I ordered the zoom model. I know the 1inch sensor on the Pro will give better images quality, but after seeing that lossless zoom on the Mavic 2 and the video quality being pretty darn good I was sold, in my opinion I think you will able to do a lot more creative things with the zoom version. Also I think DJI should have gave us the ability to swap cameras ourselves if we choose to do so in the future with out us having to send in our drone to them.

    • @mr02gixxer1000
      @mr02gixxer1000 6 років тому +1

      blue280485 To my understanding you can have the gimbal swap from DJI for a fee of course. But then to me I don’t think that’s worth it that every time you need to switch gimbal you of send it in to DJI. I do agree with you though that’s it’s about business aka $$$ in the end.

    • @Shels_pwnz
      @Shels_pwnz 6 років тому

      We have been zooming in post for a while now. In my opinion having more information to do the zoom in post is a better option. I would hate to shoot a shot with a push in and get home a realize that the shot doesn’t really work with what I had in vision for the edit. Also being able to shot in low light will be great for me as I shoot mainly weddings. Both are great but that vertigo effect will get old.

    • @mr02gixxer1000
      @mr02gixxer1000 6 років тому

      I understand that zooming in post can be done we know that. But its not the same as flying out in the wild and having the ability to zooming in on your subjects or object without getting to close. and you can upload the video or share it without losing any quality in video. also the zoom version you can do 2x optical zoom 24mm - 48mm in 4K and lossless zoom in full HD so I don't see how one wouldn't have good quality video to work with in post. Yes the 1inch sensor would yield better low light shots. But that doesn't mean you can't get decent low light shot from the zoom version. also some weddings are done in well lit conditions as well, it all depends on when and where time of day etc of the wedding. And to the untrained eye most people would know the difference in video quality especially if shooting in 4k 30 on both drones.
      The new 1inch sensor on pro is a beast, but after seen the 24-48mm optical zoom in 4k and lossless zoom in full HD on the zoom version I was sold, I can't count the amount of time that I which I had the ability to zoom when I am out flying, this drone is going to be great for my trip to Africa zooming in on wild life with out getting to close to them. lastly I think the zoom version is going to open up a new world of possibilities of what one can do with a drone mark my word, either way you on both drones it don't think one can go wrong with either they are both great birds.

    • @Shels_pwnz
      @Shels_pwnz 6 років тому +1

      Yes we are both correct and to be honest I wish we could just have both cams lol. Either way this is a great time to be a filmmaker. For what you will be using the drone for the zoom is by far the better option. Coming from the Phantom 4 platform I am just excited to have a more accessible drone that i can always have with me and I will for sure be using it sooooo much more. I hardly fly unless I have too because of setup and just having to carry it in its own case ect.

    • @mr02gixxer1000
      @mr02gixxer1000 6 років тому

      ShelsWorld I totally agree it’s truly a great time to be a filmmaker, and it would be really nice to switch out both cameras on a fly. But when I look at all the drones in DJI line up especially the phantom 4pro if DJI gave us the option to switch cameras like that on a fly on the Mavic 2, I honestly think it would hurt the sales of the bigger drones. Even now I thinking the phantom series is in a bit of trouble!! And not because they not a great drone, but because of the size compared to the Mavic 2 with a 1inch sensor. Which is going to be way easier to to transport than a phantom 4pro, especially being that Mavic Pro will have the Same video quality has the phantom 4pro. I have some friends right now who is considering putting up there phantom 4pro for sale to purchase the Mavic 2 pro. The Mavic 2 is the first drone ever of it size to have a 1inch sensor! That’s crazy!! That is going to be a game changer! DJI is really going to own the market with Mavic 2 for sure.

    Terrific video Aldryn. I have one non-related question... In general aviation, speed is measured in "knots", altitude measured in feet. I presume the imperial system in aviation is used world wide (but I could be mistaken) but is still used here in America. A lot of guys, like you, have their unit of measure set to metric, which is seems counter to the practice of general aviation. Can you explain why? It seems counter-intuitive for an American.

    I would advise not shooting beyond f8. According to Hasselblad that's when diffraction kicks in for this lens. If you don't have ND filters, it's better to use a faster shutter speed, the motion blur won't be perfect, but at least the image won't suffer from quality loss.

    Hey, Aldryn! Another informative video! Thank you! Quick question: Can the POI be moving? For example: If I were to set the POI on a bicyclist who was not moving in a park. I do all the stuff you just did, but then the bicyclist starts to ride. Will the drone follow the POI/bicyclist and continue circling?

  • @Morawka1
    @Morawka1 6 років тому

    Wouldn't the side sensors have prevent you from hitting one of the tree's? I hear they only work in Intelligent flight modes like POI. Also, has anyone tried the new POI mode with the subject drastically lower than the take off point? The old GPS POI would prevent you from designating a POI if your subject was at a lower altitude than your lift-off altitude. Wondering if they fixed that.

    Could you fly higher, target the center , then lower before dying around it?

    How did you enable the side sensors to show on your screen? I noticed that you're in P mode. I thought you could only get the side sensors in Tripod or Active track mode?

    Hi Flyt. I noticed that it shows the Return Altitude (30m) from inside the poi intelligent flight mode. Is that changeable from there as well or only from general settings as usual.

      I had that question too. Actually what it really is for. Does POI circle once and stop or keep going? If latter then when does return come into play?

    Are you running beta firmware? I see you have Waypoints and it looks like side obstacle avoidance is always showing

    Do you put the memory card into the Mavic 2 pro or into the smart controller? Or both? Which is better?
