Glad you somewhat liked the rod. Seems like you had roughly the same impressions of the rod as I did. It's a nicely made rod that looks sleek, but when it comes it fishing it doesn't do things that much better than cheaper rods. Same thing kind of goes for the power. Most of these smaller fish are just more fun on a true ultralight rod. I did take this rod out into the Everglades a few times and caught some larger Mayan cichlids and peacocks on it where I think it performed a little better. Felt comfortable enough using this where I was concerned with losing fish. With an ultralight rod, I would've been worried about losing them. I'd be interested how you like it fishing for Crappie on Lake Okeechobee. Given the bigger water and bigger fish it might shine.
Yeah man, I'd have to completely agree. It didn't "feel" like I was fishing with a St Croix. I do plan on taking it to Okeechobee tho. I think you are right, the bigger fish may give the rod a better chance to show off. For what we got around here tho, I'll stick to the UL. I just ordered a new one to play with. In the same price category as the St Croix so I'm curious. Thanks again for the hook up!

That is a beautiful rod for sure, and your unbiased first impressions are valuable, even a big name like St. Croix still has to prove it's worthy of the price they're asking for their product. That Okuma Reel looks like a good value, and it's in the upper range of the most I would spend on a spinning reel.

I work at Bass Pro and seems like I’m always acquiring different rods. I primarily target, walleye, white bass, crappie/sunfish. I’ve used the SC Panfish and it just doesn’t feel worth it to me. Rods are a very personal thing... the feel of the handle, length, graphite vs fiberglass, action, etc.. The BEST rod I have found for panfish, believe it or not, is the Bass Pro Microglass. It’s a yellow - fiberglass rod in an ultralight power with slow action. It has a cork handle and brass reel seat. It’s very similar to the old Eagle Claw Crafted Glass. I use a 6 1/2’. It only costs $24.99 and when paired with a Diawa Regal or Shimano Sedona, it’s a blast. It’s extremely durable, but the yellow color turns people off. I think I’ve sold a record number of them at our store. When I introduce it to customers... they buy it. Many didn’t even know it exists. Second in value to the Microglass is a Temple Fork Outfitter... any of them. While 5x the price, the feel and warranty (lifetime) is hard to beat.
I couldn't agree more! That rod just isn't worth that price. I actually just broke it a few weeks ago and I'm not sure it's worth the $50 to replace under warranty. My buddy actually has that yellow one and he loves it! I forget what reel he has it paired with, but it's his go to UL. I have been eyeing some of the TFO rods. This one is also comfortable, but doesn't have the same feel...yet. I need more time with it. Thanks for watching Jim!
Nice review bro! I know we all love the thrill of a good ultralight fight. I use mine alot in the winter months lol. I was wondering about the line you were using. I saw the spool look like braid and then when you fought a fish looked like mono or fluoro. I'd be interested to know how you feel about that nano braid when you get some more hours in it. Keep up the awesome content bro!
Thanks bro! I have used it a couple of times and still on the fence. Definitely casts the ultra light lures much further than mono or flouro. I'll keep playing with it and let you know. 👊🏻
You should try the blue current iii rods by Yamaga Blanks. A very high end made Japanese rod for about $200 if you look hard enough. These put anything less than a Gloomis GLX to shame. Great casters. Much more of a backbone than American rods. For example, I've got a 7'6 rod that can throw up to 3/8 oz. It weights a whopping...2.9 oz. You can catch monster fish with it, too.
I will absolutely look into those! Thanks for the tip! I broke the rod in this video actually and decided it wasn't even worth the $50 replacement from them. Thanks again!
@ParabellumFishing Enjoy! Once you try Yamaga, I don't know if you'll look at anything American anymore 🙂 There are also other companies like Evergreen, Tenryu and Apia. The first two are expensive. Apia makes kickass rods using a M40X and t1100g graphite combination. Think Shimano Poison Ultima blank for a few hundred bucks in an ultra light rod. The line you should look at is Apia Grandage Lite. There. Now you'll be forever hooked to JDM tackle like me 😀
Yeah, I'm that guy tho. I buy high dollar stuff, even when it's unnecessary, and it usually is. LOL. In this case, I can honestly say, I wouldn't pay full price for this rod. Not that it's bad, but I have others that I like better and for less money.
@@RumpleKC Sorry for the delayed response. I didn't get the notification about your comment. I am far from the authority on UL rods but my favorite one so far is the 13 Fishing Defy Silver. I haven't put enough time in with it to say definitively yes or no but so far I like it. That video is here if you are interested ua-cam.com/video/glXL5d6tD8A/v-deo.html I hop that helps! 👊🏻

@ParabellumFishing I have Bass and Salmon rods from St Croix Avid to the Extreme. I was always skeptical about St Croixs lower tier offerings. I was gonna pick this pan fish rod up until I saw that St Croix recently released a Avid Panfish rod. How do you like 13s rod?
@@ReelFrontier I have no experience with the Avid series so I can’t make a fair comparison. But this one, seems to be fairly “meh” compared to even some less expensive rods out there. I haven’t put any time in with the omen gold yet. So I can’t say anything good or bad yet. The reviews were very mixed online. I’m hoping to use it this weekend.

There. Now you'll be forever hooked to JDM tackle like me 😀
Not a bad looking rod, not a bad day of fishing either, no pan fish but you was on some bass
Figures right?! I should go for bream more often! HAHA!
@@ParabellumFishing Right, but in this case, its like going to the store for ground beef and walking out with a T-bone - I like it
Looks like a nice combo. Not sure If i'd spend that much on a crappie rod cause I do just fine on a $30 one. Who knows though one day I might
Yeah, I'm that guy tho. I buy high dollar stuff, even when it's unnecessary, and it usually is. LOL. In this case, I can honestly say, I wouldn't pay full price for this rod. Not that it's bad, but I have others that I like better and for less money.
What other ultralight rods do you recommend over this particular rod?
I like the Mr. Crappie slab shaker rods. I've never owned a very expensive ultralight though because I don't use them a whole bunch
@@RumpleKC Sorry for the delayed response. I didn't get the notification about your comment. I am far from the authority on UL rods but my favorite one so far is the 13 Fishing Defy Silver. It's inexpensive ($50) and performs just as good, if not better than this St Croix. I did fairly recently pick up another from 13 Fishing, the Omen trout and panfish rod. I haven't put enough time in with it to say definitively yes or no but so far I like it. That video is here if you are interested
ua-cam.com/video/glXL5d6tD8A/v-deo.html I hop that helps! 👊🏻
Selamat pagi my friend... and sangat pandai memancing.. god fishing
Thank you and good morning! I appreciate you watching and leaving a comment!
Like what you are doing! Great video!
Thanks man!
Have you tried the St Criox Avid Panfish rod?
I have not. The only other St Croix I have is a Victory bass rod. Should I look into the Avid? I just picked up a 13 fishing omen panfish rod to play with.
And here I thought I was already sub, Got it now.
I thought I was too. We on it now HAHA
Where are you, my friend? I haven't seen you
Você realmente conseguiu mais peixes ótimos, Deus te abençoe muito
Hello brother ..i like your vidio ,,very nice 🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻🤝🤝
Thanks bro!
@@ParabellumFishing 👍🏻👍🏻
There is no such thing as a light action rod. 😏
Eh, I misspoke. Happens. Light power
Great review of the rod and reel Joe. I think we definitely need to test it out on some Okeechobee crappie.
