Great video and thanks to the subscribers that sent the rod in. I will never be able to get a rod in that price range so I appreciate their sacrifice for out educational and entertainment benefits lol.
Hahaha you and me both buddy. I can't justify quite that much yet. I will spend up to around $200, but anything over that feels a bit extreme. Ultralights don't really need to be more than $50 to catch fish. I am a believer in value-friendly fishing especially with light line.
@@FishAnything I agree 100%. Yeah at $200 that’s like a birthday or Christmas splurging for me. Lol I think my priciest UL rod is maybe $70. My gf and I really do love ultralight and have you to thank for it. We’re gonna travel to fish since it’s like 100+ degrees here in Arizona lol
I have a 6-ft ultralight St Croix premier with all the same specs except the blank. It's a different blend of material but I absolutely love that rod I highly recommend it for $150.
Im hoping to upgrade my combos soon, and knowing about the good warranty sounds good to me with how unlucky I am with my rods 😂 I'll keep them in mind! Another awesome video 🙌
For Ultra Lights I feel once you get into the $300 and above range, you might as well just get a GLoomis Or Phenix blank and get a custom wrap job so you get exactly what you want configured to your own specifications.
Interesting review. I'm not sure I personally could justify $400 for a rod that is targeted at what I would consider the "beginner species". But then again I am obsessed with bass; some people musky and pike, others salmon or striper. It makes sense that there are those out there who target trophy panfish. So really I think it's cool that St. Croix provides an offering for those who want the premium panfish option like every other species have.
I totally agree that it is unnecessary but I think it is good to benchmark how other rods compare. I wouldn't say panfish are really beginner species though - yes Bluegill can be, but they can also be an epic sportfish for serious anglers too. Let alone Crappie!
One thing about st croix is the warranty is longer for their higherend rods. The legend elite has a 15 year transferable warranty. But I think the victory line has the same warranty.
Wow I would be nervous use a rod that expensive 😞. Thats cool that he let you use that rod to review. I bet at that cost you could tell when the fish was sniffing your lure lol. 👊👍
@AZTroutBum89 I should have specified that I would be nervous to use someone else's rod that was this nice. I'm sure its an awesome rod and if I could afford something like it the warranty would definitely make me feel at ease.
Definitely a strange feeling fishing someone else's fancy rod! But I figured it wouldn't be an issue. And yeah it is definitely much more sensitive than my other rods but I am not sure I feel we need to spend that kind of money when the other ones catch fish just the same haha
Try JDM. You won't come back. I sincerely recommend Tenryu Lunakia 6'10. Ridiculous rod. Ultralight but very sharp and sensitive unlike my Gloomis GLX TSR 862 that's got the action of a wet noodle. Weighs 2 ounces. It'll run you $300 delivered and this rod is worth every penny. Titanium guides, carbon fiber handle that's extremely comfortable, the works. Now of course with JDM gear you have their domestic quirks like very small guides designed for either very light flour or equivalent diameter PE braid.
Nice. Always wanted to see this rod in your hands. Found st croix to be too tip heavy for my liking. But good rod. But Ethan please get your hand on a Shimano soare xR super ultralight rod. You prob won’t want to use any other rod after you try it 🫠. And yes I spend too much money on rods and reels.
Believe me I agree! I just don't have much desire to import rods haha. I already have too many to test domestically. Maybe one of these days though - you have told me a few times now :) I admire your persistence!
I love to catch giant crappie. Panfishing is starting to get popular but will never be as popular as bass of trout or the other manlier species. But ul fishing takes skill and a great drag. Anyone like me would see that this rod is worth the cash bc as u said u feel more bites. If u feel in the line it’s kinda too late. It’s not like plastic fishing for bass. Panfish don’t choke down all the time. They can be fickle and nibble. I kind of bite matters too. A nice $150 ul rod is definitely the way to go unless ur obsessed like me on a certain species. But what do I know. I have 3/4 gloomis imv gl3 s. But my favorite. Team diawa 4’6” tip to butt ul rod from 1992/3. In high school if was $80. I did some crazy shit to get that money. Sold a bunch of candy and basketball cards for that. And it’s still around and catching me up to 3/4lb crappie. They can build rods like this again but chose not too.
The 7 light works perfectly for got a light panfishing....I throw 1/16oz jigs on mine all the time.....love the 6'9 light model the best....only rod I own and like more is my G. LOOMIS TSR801-2 GLX....,
I have seen and heard lots of woodpeckers. I agree it sounds like one in the video but that is because the audio is wildly diluted. This was much much louder than a Pileated Woodpecker. I believe it was a Beaver tail slapping mud.
Is someone able to help me? I am finally starting to go fishing myself. I have been having a few problems, i am trying to cast 1/32oz jigs with a 2inch crappie minnow like online outdoorsman and I use a 5ft ugly stick gx2 ultralight with a shimano sienna 500 reel. I put 10lb power pro braid with 2lb fluoro leader. It didnt go very far so I decided to get a 7ft gx2 as I am a bank fisherman. Unfortunately my jig is still only going about 10-15yards max. I have even reduced my drag pretty heavily. What exactly am I doing wrong? Is my line too heavy? Thank you for your videos I love them.
Sagar I’m sorry you’re experiencing issues! From the sounds of it you’ve got solid gear so it’s hard to say what’s causing the problem. I’m wondering if straight monofilament may increase your distance (2lb or 4lb if you need more strength). The other thing I’ll say is that I personally have more success with a size 1000 reel, but you’re 500 should still get fine distance. I’m sorry I don’t feel like much help. My gut tells me it’s the line because that’s usually the issue.
15 yards is 45 feet. I’m not so sure I cast much farther, if at all, with my 6’ St Croix ultralight. Now, I typically use 1/60 oz jig with 2” gulp minnow or a panfish magnet jig. Sometimes I may use 1/32 oz. But I don’t get lots of distance with either one.
@@SMaamri78 i apoligize now that I think about 15 yards might be too much more like 20 ft, i guess i was thinking that with ultralight gear you would still be able to cast pretty far out but i dont think thats the case, thanks
Lmao, honestly dude, I only wanted to test a couple fancy ultralight sticks to prove my current belief… A high end ultralight stick isn’t really going to land you more fish. This is sensitive, but I honestly think I would have caught 95% of these fish with a $50 rod 🤠
That reel seat isn't the worst I've seen, but at that price point it's disappointing. Why should any part of your hand touch those hard, coarse threads? Many much cheaper rods are a lot more pleasant to hold on to.
Throwing a cigarette butt into the water is far worse so please never do that. But thanks for the feedback, I will try not to toss them so much. Habit!
Thanks for the video, because this is the only time I’m going to see a rod that expensive. 🤣
LMAO I will not be spending that kind of coin on this rod anytime soon. Glad I had a chance to test it though :)
Too funny! I literally JUST got this rod (5' 6") delivered today! Can't wait to try it out this weekend. Awesome video as always!
Wow! Congrats man it is a heck of a rod haha

Awesome! They definitely make solid equipment :)
Glad you were able to get some time in with it. Not having it in my possession has helped justify buying some new jdm ultralights 😏
Try the Yamaga Blanks Blue Current TZ/Nano line.
Lmao Micah you would have bought them anyway XD
Online Outdoorsman it’s not whether or not I would have bought em, it’s about the perceived justification.
I love my St Croix Triumph ultralight. Thank you for doing St Croix
Heck yeah! Definitely a very popular rod company!
Hey Ethan buddy, hope you are doing well. Love the rod reviews and Slab Stories! Keep the videos coming!!!
Will do! Thanks as always Michael :)
Oh snap, I enjoy your opinions on this and I tend to love St Croix. Thanks for this one.
Thank you! Definitely a nice stick :)
🔥🎣 thanks for sharing!
Amazing UL Rod.
Thank you :)

Awesome ultralight rod and reel
And there's no question about it either.
Also a job all done on catching those fish
Thanks Shawn :) it was a fun trip!

Very welcome
Nice video , for sure this rod brought more fish to boat !
It’s a very fancy rod and it works well!
Great review can’t wait for the next one
Thank you :)
Im hoping to upgrade my combos soon, and knowing about the good warranty sounds good to me with how unlucky I am with my rods 😂 I'll keep them in mind! Another awesome video 🙌
I never think much about warranties but they are definitely important for pricy sticks like this!
It is very pricey but that 15 yr warranty adds piece of mind.
Definitely a huge plus

Definitely. Personally, I think spending over $300 for an ultralight is pretty much unnecessary but hey, to each their own!
How do you go about that

It was a bigfoot wood knocking. 😄
A reel u might want to check out is a 13 fishing kalon c ,the silver one. Runs about 85$. I really like it.
Interesting! Might have to check out that reel - thanks Anthony!

I’ve played with some JDM stuff and love it. I will have to look into that Tenryu
Great review. Thank you for doing these reviews.
Thank you for watching :)
Thats one fancy stick!
It was a nice setup! Not sure it is necessary though.
The best rod I have found so far is the ACC Crappie stick great action 👍👍🇺🇸🇺🇸. O and it’s 70.00 bucks
I keep hearing about these. Might have to try one!

Excellent review! Looks like a great rod, top of the line for sure. Warranty is always the key cuz you will probly break it lol we all break rods lol
I never really think much about warranties when I buy a rod. If I was spending nearly $400, I definitely would though haha
What do you think about the shimano sienna reels
I have had great experience with them in the past! I like the size 1000
Nice rod! I just wonder if they come in longer length? I myself like a 6'6 or 7' for my ultra light gear.
They only make the longer rods in "light" action

So many options out there! I have found that the 6' length is my personal go-to for most ultralight fishing.
Yeah I happy now!!!!
You da man JP!
do you like that one more than the tfo?
Not really a fair comparison. This costs 4 times as much. Very similar taper but this is obviously more sensitive
That noise is Woodpecker.

That's a chunk of change for a rod! I've spent that much on 13' surf rods but no way for a ultralight
Haha dang right. Way too expensive!
Ordered the 6ft last night
It is a dang good rod. Enjoy!
first fish on it was a 14.5 crappie @@FishAnything

For some reason I just don't like the split butts on them. Or any rod for that matter.
I am mixed on split grip. Just depends on the design!
Thank you :) I will!

That is a fair point. Honestly, the reel seat was a bit underwhelming for a near $400 expense.
10 Dinks=1 fish sandwich
XD pretty much
Is it a rod to use from the bank if not i have to buy a boat ? don't think so.
This rod is more pricey than necessary whether you have a boat or fish from bank lol
$370 is what i spent on an rx7 custom graphite jeez thats steep for a panfish rod
Lol probably a bit over the top, but my goal with these videos is to better understand what money gets you across numerous rods. Now I know!
💯🔥💙👍
:)
👍🏻😎
Thanks JT! :)
You are the dink master slayer
Crappie Dinks fear me
it's clearly big foot making all the noise
I was getting spooked! It might have been O_O
Have this rod with the 1000 Stella fk
Epic setup!!
@@FishAnything would you be interested in doing a review on it?
Sounds like a woodpecker
It was much louder in person. It was either a Beaver slapping its tail or a bigfoot getting ready to stomp me into the lake.
Bigfoot?
Lol I was starting to think so!
It's bigfoot.
Very well could have been :D
$370.00 for a fishing rod? That’s absolutely absurd and not justifiable on any level.
I tend to agree lol but I need to test all types of rods in order to have a strong opinion and be a reliable source of information.
Not really it’s like a 50000 dollar car vs a 10000 dollar car both will get you from a to b but one will be more comfortable and fun
Please, can you put the fish back in the water with some respect? It’s not a cigarette butt.
