    Thanks for the comparison! My wife broke my old St Croix 7' panfish ultralight rod and am looking for a replacement. I loved the casting action and feel of my old Panfish rod with the full cork handle but it feels like St Croix REALLY cheaped out with the new Panfish series. My older Legend Elite light fast action I have doesn't feel right casting the light rigs and honestly feels overpowered for a non-tourney nobody like me. Looks like I'll be giving the Avid series a try.

    I will never buy a rod with steel guide inserts again. I had one from a very reputable company and the large main guid and tip top got chewed up/ pitted (used in fresh water only) and abrasive in a very short time. This caused line frays and lost fish until I figured out what was happening. The company substantially upgraded my replacement rod free of charge with one that did not have metal insert trash guides once they also saw the issue for themselves in hand. YMMV but I know what I’m not buying from now on.

    • @SteveChenFishing
      @SteveChenFishing  4 місяці тому

      That’s a very good point!!! What’s your opinion on the recoil alloy guides on top Loomis rods? I’m not sure if those have the same issue.

    • @GLOCKCOPG23
      @GLOCKCOPG23 4 місяці тому +1

      @@SteveChenFishing I have no experience with recoil guides but I have heard of wear with them on fly rods. I even rewrapped some fly rods with single foot, small diameter, Alconite guides. Honestly, I want something like light weight Alconite or Aluminum Oxide rings on all my rods. No more metal inserts for me.

    • @SteveChenFishing
      @SteveChenFishing  4 місяці тому

      Yea those alumina guides should last for a long time

    Steve,
    What do you use for line braid, mono, or fluorocarbon. For trout I use braid for main line and 2-3 of fluorocarbon lead. Bass just braid.

    • @SteveChenFishing
      @SteveChenFishing  7 місяців тому

      10 lb braid and 6 lb FC leader, or 6 lb FC (for snaggy places where braid will be vulnerable)

    Aren't the two other rods more expensive then the Panfish base model?
    To me the more expensive rod is made of a more sensitive blank, so your findings are self evident?

    • @SteveChenFishing
      @SteveChenFishing  5 місяців тому +2

      The main finding is most cost efficient one in my opinion is the middle one, avid, not the high end one
