దక్షిణ భారతదేశపు చరిత్రలో అత్యంత ప్రాచీన రాజవంశాలలో ఒకటి వెలుగోటి వారి వంశం. వీరు వెలమ కులానికి చెందిన పద్మనాయక వంశీయులు . రేచర్ల గోత్రానికి చెందినవారు. కాకతీయుల సైన్యంలో ఉన్నత పదవులు అనుభవించి వారి పతనానంతరం ఇప్పటి నల్గొండ జిల్లాలోని దేవరకొండ, రాచకొండ దుర్గాలను నిర్మించి స్వతంత్ర రాజ్యాలు స్థాపించిన వారు. తరువాత కాలంలో ముసునూరి కాపయ నాయకుని యుద్ధంలో వధించి ముసునూరి వారి రాజ్యాన్ని ఓరుగల్లు దుర్గాన్ని కూడా ఆక్రమించారు. సరిహద్దు రాజ్యాలైన కొండవీటి రెడ్డి రాజ్యం మరియు విజయనగర ప్రభువులతో ఎడతెగని యుద్ధాలు చేసిన చరిత్ర వీరిది . బహమనీ సుల్తానుల తో జరిగిన యుద్ధాల్లో వీరు దుర్గాలను, రాజ్యాన్ని కోల్పోయి విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్యపు హంపి నగరానికి వలస వెళ్లి విజయనగర సైన్యాలలో ఉన్నత పదవులు అధిరోహించి ఇప్పటి కర్నూలు జిల్లాలోని వెలుగోడు ను జాగీర్ గా పొంది వెలుగోటి వంశంగా ప్రాముఖ్యత వహించారు.
క్రీస్తు శకం1565 లో విజయనగర సామ్రాజ్య పతనానంతరం 1585 వ సంవత్సరంలో నెల్లూరు జిల్లా వెంకటగిరి ప్రాంతంలో స్వతంత్ర రాజ్యాన్ని స్థాపించి విజయనగర ఆరవీటి వంశపు చక్రవర్తుల తరపున అనేక యుద్ధాలలో పాల్గొని ఖ్యాతి గడించారు .ఈ వెంకటగిరి రాజ వంశపు వారసులే కోస్తా ప్రాంత బొబ్బిలి, పిఠాపురం, జటప్రోలు, నూజివీడు వంటి ప్రముఖ సంస్థానాల స్థాపకులు మరియు మూల పురుషులు. ఇది క్లుప్తంగా వెలుగోటి వారి రాజకీయ చరిత్ర.
