My thoughts too. To give them the benefit of the doubt, I assume that the students are all foreigners whose language and cultural familiarity with American teaching styles keep them on the quiet side. If it were me in that class, I'd probably be that annoying student who puts up their hand each time with all the answers.

    • @Alienfanatic
      @Alienfanatic Рік тому +6

Students aren't necessarily NOT paying attention; they're often intimidated in a group setting because they feel that making the wrong guess out loud will be embarrassing. The instructor's job is to make it OK to make a mistake and use that as a discussion point to help others understand that mistakes are OK. Encouraging active learning is key. I'm not a huge fan of lectures for this reason and prefer one-on-one conversations. Part 141 schools like this do larger "bulk" classroom work, which can work, but you have to follow up with these people to make sure they're taking up the information you're presenting. This guy is very enthusiastic and supportive, frequently using Q&A vs just a straight lecture, which I like a lot.

I was on my first solo flight as a student ..got to 5000ft and leaned my fuel per the way I was taught ." Keep leaning until you get a slight RPM drop, then go back a quarter turn". A few minutes later my engine started to fail..I could see the prop.. like both blades..
I gasped..my excellent training kicked in however and I pulled carb heat and pushed full throttle and simultaneously started looking for a place to put her down..
Just by chance there was an airport right below at 11 o'clock.
I found the frequency radioed in
My intentions , while doing a spiral decent (unnecessary)...and landed safely.
Back then there weren't many cell phones so I parked and went in to call my instructor. .
    To shorten this up .
He had me do a run up and report back
    all good..
cancel flight and fly the 30 minutes home along the beach.
    I did .all Good
    Conclusion? Mixture too lean.

It seems the students are ESL - English as a Second Language. (Edit: They're Russian, it turns out.) There's a certain lack of confidence in participating in discussions that comes with lacking confidence in your linguistic ability, even if you are technically proficient. A language barrier, no matter how small, can make anyone seem less intelligent or competent than they really are.

Wow, I would love to have this instructor. It's too bad they don't have a school in Dallas Texas. This is my learning style. His attempt to pull everything he can out of these students is awesome. I hope this is not typical for all his classes. Just sitting here watching the class is a beating. Don't get me wrong I actually got a lot of good information from this video. This drives me, even more, to go after my PPL. Like one person said below. He's not a trained pilot and was able to answer the questions Mr. Leach asked the students. I even answered 99% of them.

Thank you for your feedback Kevin. Unfortunately, we are only located in Ft. Lauderdale but we do have many domestic students from out of state that do train with us as we have housing options.

Love the George Strait reference @ 17:05! I don't think anyone in the class caught that! Oh, BTW....if you buy that, I'll throw the Golden Gate in for free ;-)

Right before my solo, the flight school assigned an instructor I had never met and who could barely speak English to conduct my oral exam. He refused to pass me because he kept insisting take off speed was 60 knots. He was wrong. According to the POH, take off speed was 60 mph. Three times I showed him in the manual where he was wrong and three times he insisted he was right. I finally went to the chief instructor and showed him the manual. Then I fired the flight school and demanded a full refund for that day’s lesson. I soloed a week later at my new flight school.

When you asked what landing gear we are going to land on, and all I heard was silence, that scared me. Granted, I got the answer wrong, because I picked the rear landing gears, but at least I tried.

great videos and great teacher but comments are a bit deceiving! no hate but I know absolutely nothing about aviation and flight school and thought this would be great help. Now granted I am deff learning a lot but i am going to have to do a lot more resourcing, reading and researching on my own because there are acronyms being thrown around i have to keep stopping and starting to search things up,,, i.e. ELT had no idea what that was. if someone ends up seeing this and have other resources i should also use, please let me know! i took note from the comment section in the first video to get 1. Pilot’s Handbook of Aeronautical Knowledge FAA-H-8083-25C 2. Airplane Flying Handbook FAA-H-8083-3C 3. Aviation Weather Handbook FAA-H-8083-28. so again great videos but if you are literally starting from scratch you WILL need to do a lot of extra work.

Not a pilot yet, looking into lessons. I got most your questions right. However as far as turning a air cooled engine into to the wind to cool. Doesn't the prop provide the air for cooling regardless of wind? Not saying wind doesn't help but isn't irrelevant to a 100hp fan blowing on the engine? Please reply. Thank you

It's like a car on a hot day, The A/C works best when moving. The fan will cool it, but it's really meant to be throttled up, and moving forwards.
