Just found your channel. I’ll have to take a look at what else you have. Have a good day.
Yeah when I used to live in Lauderdale we'd drive down there and it was about a 5 hour drive. Much nicer in the plane! I never realized that airlines flew in and out of Marathon. It's been a while since I was there, and probably the last time was in the 90s. 17 hours away now, are you up in Georgia / NC?

Yeah, not much changes from the air other than the number of planes up there. On the ground, just the population density. Both Key West and South Florida have exploded since the 70s/80s!
@@AccidentalAviator Oh my, yes! Moved to Miami in '71 as a 10 yr old, then Ft. Lauderdale in the '80's, then Palm Beach in the 90's ... and in '97 the population of Palm Beach County had exceeded 1 MILLION people! Moved the family to mountains of NC in 1997. 😄👍
@@PatrickSBellSr I lived in Lauderdale from 82 through 2010 then moved to Wilmington, NC. So you remember I-95 not even being finished back in the 70's and 80s. You had to hop off at Fort Pierce and take the turnpike the rest of the way. Now it's like 6-8 lanes in both directions!
@@AccidentalAviator Yes! We called it "The Missing Link"! Another memory is that US-1 was only a couple of lanes wide in front of Hollywood - Ft.Lauderdale Airport (in DANIA!) and there was only one entrance into FLL and it had a train level-crossing - if a freight train came by there was a 50/50 chance you'd miss your flight. Ah, a simpler time...😎
@@PatrickSBellSr in 82, Route 84 (alligator alley) was 2 lanes heading into FLL, and any road west of university was a dirt road. We moved to Inverarry then which had a PGA tournament and was one of the most beautiful place! A lot has changed since then. They've run out of land to build on in Broward county, now everything they're building is up!
Fun to watch!! I used to flight instruct at North Perry many moons ago. Did a few NDB approaches into Marathon when I was doing my Double I training and have flown a bit over the Keys. This video brought back many good memories of flying in South Florida. Thanks for a great trip down memory lane.
The first video I’ve watched on this channel. A delight to see a solo pilot operating a CJ3+, using checklists, briefing a flight plan, and dealing with radios and ATC in a busy airspace, along with beautiful views over the Florida Keys. Contrast that with the videos on UA-cam about the last flight of Learjet N452DA, which show how to completely screw up all those things. As a non-pilot, I’ve watched those, but now it’s good to see how things are done professionally.
I appreciate the kind comments! I've read a lot about and watched tons of videos on N452DA. Pretty tragic what happened there on many levels. We flew once on Cape Air from FLL to EYW and it was glorious to see the water the entire flight (I think there were about 20 passengers on this flight and are cruising altitude was like 18,000 feet (from what I remember). Better than driving there, but our last visit to Key West was way back in 2005 when we were on a cruise ship and the last port was Mallory Square in Key West. Would like to visit again, but agreed that it's very "touristy" now. Loved the video and with all that radio chatter, I don't know how you can tell when the towers are speaking to YOU about your flight.
It is definitely very touristy, but a place that you have to visit at least once, and maybe a few times. Mallory square is great and there are a lot of amazing museums. You kinda get used to your tail number and your brain picks up on them pneumonically saying it. You can see that I generally stop talking when they start with "November 2 8 2 Whiskey Bravo."

Yes Sir, like others have said ,probably the best single Pilot channel, and the best video I have watched in a while, retired 11 years ago flying a King Air B200T ( all analog ) and this brought back good memories. Thank you !
Thank you! I appreciate your kind words. I learned to fly on all analog, and I'm glad I did, but the avionics now just make situational awareness amazing. Where were you flying the King Air out of?

Really great video. I live in Boca and go to KW twice a year. Nice to see it from the air. And only 30 minutes versus 4 hours is cool too.
Yeah, that drive down to Key West is brutal! I've done that a few times too!
I went to Key West various times in the 70s, great place!
So cool! It had to be amazing back in the 70's!
That was an excellent video! I am always impressed by all the pilots ability, skills and knowledge. Aviate, navigate & communicate 😊
Much appreciated! This is one of my better performing videos and a great little flight!
I went to Key West in the early 90s, haven’t been since. Now that I live in Florida I would love to drive down, taking my time to stop here and there along the way then fly back since it’s about a 10 hr drive from where I live on the west coast. I’m sure KW has changed a lot since I was there last!
It has! It's pretty touristy, but still worth the trip and/or vacation every now and then! Where are you located on the west coast?
Enjoyed the flight. Thanks for the ride.

Key West approach very nice. I have flown commercial there many times. What fond memories for sure.
I am confident that your return flight was on point. Thank you very much.
I actually recorded the flight prior to this one (flying out of Key West to Fort Lauderdale), but I just haven't edited it yet. I thought going into Key West had more beautiful scenery so I put this one up first.

Just found your channel. We live in South Florida and love visiting the keys. Have always drove. Great video. Makes we want to go down there again. Beautiful perspective from the air. I am not a, pilot... very informative from a pilot's perspective. Looking forward to more videos.
Awesome! Thank you for watching! It is a little different perspective from up there looking at everything going on in South Florida and the keys. I've made that drive from Lauderdale a few times too and much prefer the 30 minute flight! :-)
I got my Private many years ago at FLL Intl and we used to use Boca Raton and Key West to practice cross wind landings and takeoffs. Did my first cross country FLL to Naples. Thanks for your great videos!
Very cool! So, I soloed at FLL in 1987! My first "landings" were at OPF and I too practiced crosswinds at Boca. That's where everyone went to practice crosswinds! Ironically enough, my first solo cross country was to Naples too! It was easy to follow state road 84 across the everglades!
What year did you solo?

It was definitely a little more laid back! :-)
It WAS a different world 30 yrs ago. I lived for over 25 yrs and left four years ago. Not as fun as it WAS.........
What a journey you’ve laid out. I really appreciated the satellite view of the route you’re planning. It really gives perspective of the cities and ferry routes as you hop from island to island. Been to Key West many times. Only flown in and out of the Keys one time. That was on an American Eagle connection flight out of Miami to Marathon. That was in the mid 1990s. I haven’t been to Key West now in 20 years. It’s about a 17 hr drive from my house and I’m not as young as I used to be. I can’t handle them long drives like I used to could.
I’ve made the drive from Hollywood down to Key West many times. Which is basically the same as the flight you took. If I remember right I took 5 to 7 hours to drive, what took you 30 minutes to fly.
Northern Tennessee
Enjoyed the IFR ride in the CJ3+. I learn a lot from your comms with ATC, and your commentary/explanations. Miss flying VFR in the right seat with my dad years ago in a 172 around Toronto area. He’d be amazed with today’s avionics.
Glad you enjoyed it! I learned to fly in the 80s, and the changes in avionics are just outrageous to me. The situational awareness and safety produced from them is through the roof!
Let me know if I can answer any questions for you!

Wow! Awesome video - brings back a LOT of memories from the 70's, 80's and 90's. All still looks pretty much the same from the air. 😎😁
When did you instruct out of Perry? I learned to fly out of FLL in the mid to late 80s and had many "landings" at OPF and HWO!

Captain, very nice images and the placement of the cameras is great to be able to observe.
I appreciate you watching!
I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video and comment on it! If there's anything else you'd like to see or if I can answer any questions for you, please let me know!
Been to Key West mucho times. Lived on Big Pine in the 70s. Worked for Topino Construction driving their lowboy when we were building the new bridges.
That had to be amazing living down there in the 70s! I bet you have some stories to tell building those replacement bridges.
Great videos as usual. Took my family and 2 dogs on 3 trips to KEYW from KLZU in my C182. Made a fuel stops and potty breaks for the puppies along the way. Always a fun time between Fed. - March.

I have always loved flying I actually took flying lessons before I drove a car. My parents couldn’t afford them so I got a job and paid for them myself. Unfortunately I was in a car accident just prior to taking my private pilot test and physically couldn’t do it. Then life happened and I got married had children and couldn’t afford to go back to it. I find solace in watching flight videos and enjoy anytime I get to fly commercially now. But I always wanted to go back to it. Keep the videos coming, love them.

Great video and commentary. Many flights in F4J’s doing ACM training out of NQX in early 70’s. Only base where you could get permission to make a max performance unrestricted climb in AB.
That had to be an interesting time to be stationed at NQX. How did you enjoy flying the F4s?
@@AccidentalAviator Fantastic airplane. I was a career navy carrier pilot - 7800 hours - 960 carrier landings. The F4 was the best of the best landing on the carrier. Rock solid on the glide path. We had to ‘do it ourselves’ in those days. I admire you guys today with your grasp of the technology. Your video was absolutely great - please keep em coming!
@@artpage7338 All of the new technology/avionics are definitely making Flying safer. The situational awareness is second to none.
