I have zero clue about horseracing so can someone tell me how much the Jockey influences the outcome of a race ? Loved watching these Mine that Bird clips and the Derby win.
A jockey is probably the second most important aspect of a horse race. They’ve got to be knowledgeable enough to know each horse they ride, know what those horses need, where to put them, and when to ask them for some speed. This is even more impressive when you consider the fact that many big name jockeys ride in several graded stakes races in the same day on completely different horses. The best jockeys will bring out the best in any horse.
@@Devsfan202 Don't understand all this "speculation" that Mine That Bird would've caught Rachel Alexandra if: he hadn't had to go wide; Calvin Borel would've ridden him; the race would've been a little longer, etc. Rachel Alexandra was the best horse that day, plain and simple.

I could tell Tom Durkin had goosebumps all the way given the little jumps in his voice throughout. Just awesome!
Yesh..well Mine That Bird went 6 wide. And thatsthe difference in the finish.
Mine That Bird was such a great little gelding though. All heart, all try.
I love Rachel but a little longer race and Mine that Bird would have caught her.

I think a lot of this is actually shown pretty good in the movie Seabiscuit, I definitely recommend watching if you haven’t already.

This year was a repeat. Mystik Dan wasn’t 50-1, but he skimmed the paint on the rail to get to the lead and wasn’t noticed.

Calvin Borel ruined a triple crown as MTB could have beaten RA if he stayed on him
that’s true but he said it himself, RA was the best filly he has ever rode so hes gon wanna ride that horse over the kentucky derby winner
