One of the greatest upset races of all time and an announcer that missed the call.
If you haven’t seen the multiple moves this jock and horse make you can’t truly appreciate the race. It’s insane. One of my favorite races I’ve ever watched live and I missed it too because I was listening to the play call. Bob Knapp The fact that the video clips off that horse for so long, and even more so that his late explosion so confounds the announcer that he's too confused to even acknowledge his presence after he'd taken a good lead, just adds to the surreal intensity. It's as if he couldn't bring himself to acknowledge it because it wasn't even based in reality.

You can tell by the crowd noise that everyone was totally confused! Instead of loud cheering, it's like people are looking at each other and wondering what just happened....

The announcer never mentioned Mine That Bird until he was well past the leading horse, even then he had to look at the number of the horse, I wasn't sure myself but I could see a horse flying through the pack, you'd think an announcer would have spotted that

Some racehorses are staying in a stable. One of them starts to boast about his track record. “In the last 15 races, I’ve won eight of them!”
Another horse breaks in: “Well in the last 27 races, I’ve won 19!”
“Oh that’s good, but in the last 36 races, I’ve won 28!” says another.
At this point, the horses notice a greyhound, who has been sitting there listening. “I don’t mean to boast,” says the greyhound, “but in my last 90 races, I’ve won 88 of them!”
The horses are clearly amazed. “Wow!” says one, after a hushed silence. “A talking dog!”
