You say that as if most current gen games released this year are worth playing. It says more about the quality of games this year more so than the quality of people's rigs. Most game engines are scalable. You don't need a beefy rig for something like Metaphor especially when a Steam Deck can play it. Hell, a Steam Deck and Switch can play Hogwarts Legacy. Modern games don't need those big beefy rigs unless you're looking to game at 4k which is something consoles cannot do without putting games at low settings and with aggressive upscaling that doesn't compare to DLSS. Last year had BG3 and several other great games like Armored Core 6, and the year before that had Elden Ring. This year didn't have a big AAA release that's worth a damn.
There are some exceptions to this. Remember Assassin's Creed II? There was a remaster of it in the "Ezio Collection" that actually looks better than the existing PC port way back in 2010, but the Ezio Collection is console-only. PC doesn't always get a remaster by upgrading the hardware.
I'm currently playing the original Baldur's Gate 1 on my Windows 98 emulator. After that, I'll move on to the original Baldur's Gate 2, and then I'll finally dive into Baldur's Gate 3 on Steam. You're absolutely right, PC gamers with backlogs usually don’t worry about when a game was released. To most of us, a game we haven’t played yet is new, regardless of its release year. With millions of PC games available, the sheer volume is already overwhelming. In contrast, consoles have fewer titles, so new releases tend to generate more hype. Plus, as a PC gamer, I don’t see much value in buying remakes or remasters when free mods can enhance the graphics just fine.
I played H zero dawn a few months back and it looked and ran amazing on my 4080, only paid $10 don't need the enhanced version for $50. Doc are doing reviews after you beat these games or at least tell us which Batman or whatever you enjoyed the most.

I think another big factor are the steam sales. Right now they are having their winter sale and there are some bangers that are heavily discounted right now.

I finally got a STEAM account in the middle of last Month, I currently have 15 game in my library ( not including the free ones I got from Prime) at a total coast of $43.00. Yeah they are old titles but the fact that I've been away from gaming for the past 8+ years, is why it works out great for me.😄

I’m also playing older Games. Even older consoles like the PS2 and SNES on a CRT. A buddy Game me his old PS4 and I’m enjoying that too. So I thought, “I wanna play all those awesome remakes. Those are only on the PS4 and PS5 right?!” Nope.. a lot of them you can play on the PC too.. for cheap.

Steamstats, people forget, only 40% of Steam users are from 1st world countries (NA/EU/UK/AUS/JP/NZ). And within EU you have to keep in mind there are many countries with lower incomes like Romania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, etc where wages are around half of that of Americans. These are wonderful people's and countries, its just their average incomes are lower, so not as many have the disposable income to buy a PS5-class gpu/cpu combo and regularly buy the latest games.
The only time I am OK paying a premium for a remaster is when you can no longer buy it on a storefront. For example lollipop chainsaw, or shadows of the damned that just released those games I bought recently. Especially since I don’t like emulating games that often because it’s not very convenient to play them and boot them up when I could just buy the remastered version of a game
There are over 1 billion Steam users, and even if you count for monthly active users only, that percentage stills represents a huge number of players. You'll be more surprise to learn about the percentage of PC gamers that are active on Steam in the first place. We simply have way more options. We have PC exclusive multiplayer games. We have indies. Indies that are PC exclusives too. Emulation, games from previous generations, etc, but that has no weight on the fact that many devs are making most of their money from PC. In other words: who cares? Devs have a huge incentive to release their games on PC. We're still getting all console games and way more.
15 percent is a lot of time. It’s up from 9 percent of the previous year. The reason it’s only 15 percent is because of how much of the time is spent playing live service games like CSGO.

Playtime and users are two different statistics and it’s 15 % of the TIME spent by all users was on games released in 2024. The thing is the library of games released in 2024 compared to everything else on Steam released prior to that is miniscule, so of course it’s going to be a small number, and there are a lot of variables to that, some people that folks with older hardware using Steam may not be able to run some of these newer games. But that being said one thing that is telling is for the number of games played during the year, the median on Steam is 4 which just seems nuts. Steam users have the biggest libraries and backlocks yet play the least amount of games. And most stream users don’t even play games on Steam longer than a week before they stop. Personally I had 0% playtime on anything release in 2024, one because anything I did play released in 2024 I played on Gamepass. And secondly I have so many backlog games, it is fiscally stupid for me to pay full price for brand new games that is just going to add to my list of Ill get around to it, so any games I buy outside of something like GTA 6 I’m going to wait for until it gets a major discount.

I just got a new pc, 4070 super i9 13700kf, from a ps5 for like 1200, the difference is astronomical, im literally going back to play old games i played on my ps5 bc i feel like owe a apology to myself for thinking the ps5 looked good, tho i still use my ps5 as a blu ray player snd like other streaming services

Sad, it was a banner year. I have TLoU 1, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU2 and they all work on my PS5 perfectly fine. I bought the remakes and remasters because it's just a better experience. It's not that is unavalible. Resolution and frame rate have very little to do with how a game looks. It's all art direction and graphical fidelity matter way more to how a game looks.
Frame rate is def important the rest is not 80-120fps+ just feels way more smoothly like rn im playing dark souls 1 can't go over 60 fps but can go up to 240hz and that makes it a tear free smooth experience
@ tearing is fixed by vrr which the consoles have, and smoothnesses absolutely does not beat look in enjoyment. I source all the people playing at 30 on the switch

This has nothing to do with it. First 15 percent of the time is a lot of time. Second, steam gamers play a lot of love service games. Live service gamers typically play way more than single player gamers.
I don’t see any normal PlayStation fans disagreeing with that (sounds like you just made it up because you wanna start an imaginary fight with PlayStation fanboys) I would say that this is probably how it is with every platform. Normal people do buy their favorite games when they come out and other games that they’re interested in, they wait for our sale because they might feel it’s not worth paying full price for and get it like a year or two down the road. I’m sure that these numbers are similar across PlayStation and Nintendo as well. For example, I just bought Star Wars Survivor yesterday because it’s $20 at Best Buy’s and have been playing it today.

I’m also playing older Games. Even older consoles like the PS2 and SNES on a CRT. A buddy Game me his old PS4 and I’m enjoying that too. So I thought, “I wanna play all those awesome remakes. Those are only on the PS4 and PS5 right?!” Nope.. a lot of them you can play on the PC too.. for cheap.
I would guess that those stats would be similar on PlayStation and Xbox. Most gamers are only buying one or two new games a year.
1. 15% on PC is a lot (about 20 million out of the 69 million player daily and 132 million active users). Just in case
2. Good old games are alive and kicking on PC, you got all CS games, good old l4d2, the good battlefield games, titanfall 2 and also old F2P games like warframe or paladins, or indie gems like project zomboid.
And outside of steam you can even play online games so old as of PS2 like RE outbreak 1 and 2, but thats a secret hahha.
3. Why would you buy new games if they mostly come out unoptimized and incomplete? by the time those games are fully fixed they will already be
Steamstats, people forget, only 40% of Steam users are from 1st world countries (NA/EU/UK/AUS/JP/NZ). And within EU you have to keep in mind there are many countries with lower incomes like Romania, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Greece, etc where wages are around half of that of Americans. These are wonderful people's and countries, its just their average incomes are lower, so not as many have the disposable income to buy a PS5-class gpu/cpu combo and regularly buy the latest games.

The only time I am OK paying a premium for a remaster is when you can no longer buy it on a storefront. For example lollipop chainsaw, or shadows of the damned that just released those games I bought recently.
Especially since I don’t like emulating games that often because it’s not very convenient to play them and boot them up when I could just buy the remastered version of a game
There are over 1 billion Steam users, and even if you count for monthly active users only, that percentage stills represents a huge number of players. You'll be more surprise to learn about the percentage of PC gamers that are active on Steam in the first place.
We simply have way more options. We have PC exclusive multiplayer games. We have indies. Indies that are PC exclusives too. Emulation, games from previous generations, etc, but that has no weight on the fact that many devs are making most of their money from PC. In other words: who cares? Devs have a huge incentive to release their games on PC. We're still getting all console games and way more.

Playtime and users are two different statistics and it’s 15 % of the TIME spent by all users was on games released in 2024. The thing is the library of games released in 2024 compared to everything else on Steam released prior to that is miniscule, so of course it’s going to be a small number, and there are a lot of variables to that, some people that folks with older hardware using Steam may not be able to run some of these newer games.
But that being said one thing that is telling is for the number of games played during the year, the median on Steam is 4 which just seems nuts. Steam users have the biggest libraries and backlocks yet play the least amount of games. And most stream users don’t even play games on Steam longer than a week before they stop.
Personally I had 0% playtime on anything release in 2024, one because anything I did play released in 2024 I played on Gamepass. And secondly I have so many backlog games, it is fiscally stupid for me to pay full price for brand new games that is just going to add to my list of Ill get around to it, so any games I buy outside of something like GTA 6 I’m going to wait for until it gets a major discount.
I have played a total of three games that released in 2024. That's it.

Most Older games look and play phenomenal on PC . A lot of which even better than some newer games lol I think console gamers think old games look and run how they did back on their old gen consoles but that’s not how it is on PC. Like you said PCs don’t really need remasters for the most part

It's not saying that only 15% of Steam users are playing new games; it's saying that on average out of 100% of time being played by users only 15% are titles that came out that year. For instance, my data says that out of 100% of game time 12% of mines is spent on new games.

I just got a new pc, 4070 super i9 13700kf, from a ps5 for like 1200, the difference is astronomical, im literally going back to play old games i played on my ps5 bc i feel like owe a apology to myself for thinking the ps5 looked good, tho i still use my ps5 as a blu ray player snd like other streaming services

But here it is for your understanding, remakes are new games based on older games story, themes and brand. Remasters are just technical improvements like graphics and performance.

I see your point, and I would agree. This said, having been on relatively high en pcs for years, I haven't experienced any remastered of a game I have already beaten worth paying for. But again, I will always buy the remastered over the original if I had to buy a game regardless. Thinking about it, if I get your point right, you are indeed smart and I was too fast to react. Every second AAA game is a UE5 slop, so who even wants to play them? I have played a few new indie games and only a single UE5 game this year; the rest are old games. I started playing BG3 again and condemned criminal origins.I had never played this one, so I installed some mods and am enjoying it. It's a pretty good game.

The problem with your arugment is that PS5 can also play new games and PC games can't. How about Spiderman 2? Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth? Astro Bot? Can you play those NEW games on PC? Resident Evil 4 remake is really a new game… that’s not a good example of how people on PlayStation have been playing remastered games.. if “PC gamers” are skipping out on Resident Evil 4 remake because they have already played the original Resident Evil 4 on a high end PC they are missing out big time

I have TLoU 1, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU2 and they all work on my PS5 perfectly fine. I bought the remakes and remasters because it's just a better experience. It's not that is unavalible. Resolution and frame rate have very little to do with how a game looks. It's all art direction and graphical fidelity matter way more to how a game looks.
Frame rate is def important the rest is not 80-120fps+ just feels way more smoothly like rn im playing dark souls 1 can't go over 60 fps but can go up to 240hz and that makes it a tear free smooth experience
@ tearing is fixed by vrr which the consoles have, and smoothnesses absolutely does not beat look in enjoyment. I source all the people playing at 30 on the switch

This has nothing to do with it. First 15 percent of the time is a lot of time. Second, steam gamers play a lot of love service games. Live service gamers typically play way more than single player gamers.

I don’t see any normal PlayStation fans disagreeing with that (sounds like you just made it up because you wanna start an imaginary fight with PlayStation fanboys) I would say that this is probably how it is with every platform. Normal people do buy their favorite games when they come out and other games that they’re interested in, they wait for our sale because they might feel it’s not worth paying full price for and get it like a year or two down the road. I’m sure that these numbers are similar across PlayStation and Nintendo as well. For example, I just bought Star Wars Survivor yesterday because it’s $20 at Best Buy’s and have been playing it today.
