- Hey everyone!
Today is a big day, I've uploaded a MASSIVE update to CryoUtilities with a ton of new features for performance and saving storage space!
Huge shout-out to my wife Crystal for the art, and for putting up with me working all day, every day, for almost 2 months to pull this one off.
Lastly, an extra huge shout-out to my patrons for allowing me to spend so much time doing this, and for beta testing!
I hope you guys enjoy the video and the new update!

Hey everyone! I made a minor error with the Tomb Raider results in this video. The short story is that I accidentally used an incorrect MangoHUD config and the results weren't granular enough to capture every frame, but the corrected tests are still in-line with what was seen here.
If you're interested in reading more, or seeing the corrected results, please see the Reddit post here: www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/11ovfpa/a_disclaimer_about_the_cryoutilities_2_launch/
I'm sorry for the error!
I can not download from Github
It doesn't run
@@danfuture4409 This has been an issue with GitHub all week. I'm trying to find another place to host the files, but in the meantime try again every hour or so. I'm really sorry 😓
Hey cryo I downloaded cryoutilities for my steam deck and set it to your recommended settings in an attempt to fix a crashing issue I’ve been having with ghost recon breakpoint but after changing the settings in cryoutilities the game wouldn’t even start up after reverting back to stock the game runs again but the memory leak issue persists :/ I understand it’s not your job to find a fix but if you may know or would be interested in looking into a way to fix this issue for breakpoint I’d appreciate it
It could just be some Ubisoft bs though so it may well be a lost cause
Bless your soul, man. All this work you do for absolutely free, the deck community doesn't deserve you
Thank you for watching, you guys rock ❤️
@@cryobyte33 Yes. Thanks! I just got a deck and I love the community. It's an amazing machine and I'm so greatful for those of you who have the insight to light the way!

Thank you for watching, I'm just happy I can help ❤️
Dude yeah he's awesome!
This is the first video I’ve seen from him and it’s incredible ❤
You should be hired by Valve's Development team for the Steam Deck 2, what you have demonstrated is insane. Massive respect to you pal.
My inbox is open 😉 Thank you for watching!
I hope the steam deck 2 supports 2280ssds, has a larger battery that can be quick swapped, a dedicated USB-a port, a completely color accurate screen, and sodimm ram

agreed, tbh this one video alonbe has solved some issues I've had with some games. completely. fixed.
Fellow DevOps engineer here, wanted to point out that:
a. Your explanations on the technical side of things and how memory management works is fantastic and does a really good job explaining things.
b. The entire idea is quite genius. It really does put take full advantage of running a console with the Linux kernel and I don't think I would've ever thought about doing something like this myself.
Overall, this is a great video, both with the actual tool you're providing the explanations you give out.
Welcome, DevOps friend! Thank you for the kind words and for letting me know that I'm on the right track ❤️
Another ops engineer here and came here to say that. Especially the memory management - It's so good explanation on so many levels (pun intended) that I'm going to use it myself if I ever need to. And I'm shocked about the factory default values, seriously?!? Your values should be the defaults, they make so much more sense tbh.
@@miraojamo I'm happy that you liked it! Feel free to use whatever parts of it you'd like, I'm just happy to teach 😁
Time is money. Your videos and work shared to the steam deck community with the care and ease of understanding for the viewer of your content, we appreciate your time, good sir, thank you, I look forward to your hogwarts video
Wow, thank you SO MUCH for the massive donation! It really does help keep the channel going, and you're far too kind 😭 Definitely expect the Hogwarts video in 3-4 weeks!
@CryoByte33 honestly man time is money and you giving the community a powerful and free tool, if I can donate I have to, gotta make sure you also have the resources YOU need to keep your channel going, keep up the great work, we all appreciate you
This is amazing 👏
Man Valve should just get you on the payroll at this point. Thank you so much for all the work you do to improve our experiences on the SD, and for the time explaining the "what/why" of the fixes instead of "here's a script that does some magic, run it". The extra education really helps understand what's going on under the hood.
Thank you for watching!
My primary goal with the channel is to help teach these little nuances that I've learned over the years, and I'm really glad that it's coming through 🙂
Yup, the way he explains everything so that it's easy to understand really helps me feel comfortable trusting his process and doing the tweaks on my own Deck. 👍🏼
Honestly was thinking the same thing. They should be paying him for this, this is mental
@@cryobyte33 Can't get GOW to hold over 30fps at lowest settings even with all this :(. Just a stuttering mess :/
@@halo2bounceguy, I have stutters in forza horizon 4 after all of that too. But for me helps fixing gpu frequency + recommended settings in cryotools + 45 hz refresh rate. When gpu frequency was on default, frametime was totally unstable
Massive thanks for doing all of this for free for a whole community, on top of educating us all!
Sorry for the delay, my life has been crazy and I'm working to catch up now.
Thank you for the awesome donation, I hope CU helped you out!
Before using this, I played Borderlands GOTY Enhanced on medium settings 60fps with frame drops. Now I can play it on Ultra with a stable 60fps. Awesome work, dude. I appreciate the education you've given me as well.
Thank you so much for watching, the kind donation, and for letting me know that Borderlands was affected so much! I'm just really happy to help ❤️

@TheShizinator I've done some emulation videos, and I'll be doing more in reverse chronological order of console release, so 360 shouldn't be too long 🙂

This is just crazy, the amount of time and effort you put into this small community is really admirable. You being so passionate about this inspires me
Thank you for watching, I love the Deck and want to help it get even better ❤️
it will be also a lot of help if this can be also done for the windows steam deck community
Thanks Cryo for your work, and your vids explaining it all! You break it down in a way that’s easy to understand. Plus, your tool is fantastic and I believe does give real results. Keep up the great work!
Wow, thank you SO MUCH for the hugely generous donation! I really appreciate it and it helps a ton ❤️😭

Thank you so much for the donation and the kind words! I put a ton of work into it and I definitely appreciate that others enjoy it so much ❤️

just picked up a deck this week during the sale, really excited to come back to this video again when it gets here. thanks so much for your hard work.
Thank you so much for the donation! I hope that CU helps you get the performance you want ❤️
Your work has taken the Steam Deck from awesome to unbelievable! I just got it 5 days ago, and can’t believe the performance differences with CU2 applied! 😍
Thank you so much for the incredible donation! 🫶
I really appreciate you using CU and watching the video!
This has been a literal game changer for me. I was beginning to get frustrated at uneven performance across certain games where it felt like the deck just wasn’t utilising it’s full potential. This has totally fixed that and reaffirmed my love for the deck. If a single developer working alone can make these kind of improvements, I think we’ve got a bright future ahead of us. Absolutely brilliant.
Thank you so much for watching! The open nature of the Steam Deck is exactly what makes it the best innovation in computing in the last decade IMO.
You've single handedly made many games way more enjoyable. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel, I'm glad that I could help you get better performance 😁

Currently waiting for my refurbished Deck and I stumbled upon your video. It's amazing what you have done, and I loved the explanation on how a computer's memory works! Hope to see more great things from you in the future :D
This is incredible. I've been using your 4GB VRAM and swappiness fixes for quite a while now, but this is such a huge step up again, it's utterly mindblowing. Particularly the small QOL/safety features you paid attention to, like the extra 1 GB to prevent the accidental boot loop.
Thank you for coming back and watching this one too, and for noticing all the work that went into it! I really appreciate it ❤️
Thank you for all your contributions to our community!!!

Your tool took one of my favourite games from a stutters mess to nearly 60fps locked! It also taught me a lot about the underlying OS and optimisations on my Steam Deck! I wish you the best, and thank you for your hard work!
Thank you so much for the kind donation, I'm really happy that I was able to help you out and teach you a bit about how awesome the Deck is ❤️
This is simply fabulous Kyle. Thanks a ton and couldn't be happier to have you showing us how to improve performance on our steam decks and for specific games. Your so comprehensive and amazingly detailed and thorough. Thanks again Kyle and hope to see you keep giving us more settings to tweak to play our favorite games on the Deck. Take care.
I'm gonna be honest with you I didn't believe this at first but I saw how people said this was amazing so I did it and. Thanks for your work for this community, just got my deck and used your script immediately!
Thank you so much for the kind donation, I hope that CU2 helps you out ❤️
Thank you for your research into the depths of Linux memory management! With the new huge page settings, it appears that I can play Witcher 3 for hours with the smoother framerate of huge pages, and without the 10s long compaction thrashing events that used to occasionally happen when using huge pages alone without the defrag/compaction settings. Just fantastic work!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel and letting me know that the performance is THAT much better ❤️🙏
Hours you say? 🤔 any chance on an updated recommended settings for Witcher 3 based on this update? I’m using the 40 from your previous video 🙏🏽
The way you explained everything, it made me feel smarter and more in tune with my steam deck as I now have a bit more understand of how it works internally.
The script and video to showcase it is really well done, I can’t stress that enough.
Thankyou for everything you’ve done!
Thank you so much for supporting the channel The primary goal of the channel is education, so I'm really happy to have made that happen for at least 1 person, let alone all those that I was able to help here ❤️
Thanks for all of your hard work! The tweaks work great. I'm a software engineer, but I mostly worked on embedded systems programming in C. I have three Linux servers at home, but your knowledge of Linux is much greater than my own. Your explanations of virtual memory and all were extremely clear and thorough. Your patience must be legendary at work, even by Swedish standards! Thanks again!
Thank you so much for the kind donation and words! Embedded systems are no joke, I'm happy that even extremely low-level engineers like yourself have given it the stamp of approval 😁
I cannot express how thankful I am that we have members in the community like yourself! Thank you for all the time spent on these tools and the hefty job of creating these videos to explain the process. You are a gem!
I did have a quick question for you. What kind of impact do we see on load times when moving the shader caches to an SD Card?
Thank you for watching, and for the kind words!
As for the load times on SD card, I haven't noticed a substantial difference. Sometimes there is more "shader stutter" until all the shaders are loaded into memory, but it tends to subside after about 10 minutes of play in my experience.
Muchas gracias por todo lo qué haces por la comunidad, te mereces mucho!🥺 Thank you so much for all you do for the community, you deserve so much!

The last CryoUtilities you did was simply incredible -- but then you went above and beyond supercharging it into EVERY DECKER'S #1 ESSENTIAL TOOL! Hats off and mad props to you, good sir!!! Thank you!!! 🎉
One thing I wish you elaborated a bit more on here was the shader cache / compat data section of the video. I've heard some people recommend moving them off the internal drive and yet others warned doing so may negatively impact performance. I suppose the consensus here is that "it depends" largely on the performance characteristics of the SD card (if not using an external SSD) and which game you're playing. Very nice to see you address this already in the comments from those that brought it up. You're awesome. 👍
Thank you so much for supporting the channel! ❤️
Yeah, I hadn't realized that it would be such a major point of concern. Maybe I'll address it in a short or something 😅
