I like that he uses the gear for a while before giving a final score. A friend of mine purchased a really nice backpack last autumn and one of the shoulder straps snapped at the seams (on the foam padding tip). This was right after filling it up and test fitting minutes before heading out the door. So i advice people to do a few rounds along a road with all the gear you're bringing to test the quality a few days before heading out. And also inspect the stitching before a purchase i think. (NB: My friend could have exceeded the weight limit on his pack, but we didn't test this).
Coffee Jack The only way you should be able to exceed the weight limit on a pack is by filling it with rocks or led bars. The pack should be able to hold as much gear as you can stuff into it and then some. I used a 45L Walmart pack for years with no issues and I stuffed it to max capacity almost every trip. Sounds like your friend got a crappy pack.
Luke in your camping videos before you go to sleep you always say about watching a movie. When I go camping, I’m watching through the 10 years of your videos. They’re that good keep up the good work.
I'm in Western, NY where my State now has almost 12,000 cases now of Covid-19. I have more than 60 acres of woods out behind my house. It looks like it will be the only place to do all my outdoor activities this year, but I am thankful I'm not in a big city. Great video Luke,.I can't wait for it to warm up to get out & about.
Awesome video. Having served in the Military all over the world for 25 years, and 50 years roaming the woods, I've seen many depressions. If any Civil War battles were fought on that mountain, it could be a sunken fighting position (foxhole), seems too big for a old grave site, and the worst case could be the remains of a old home site "3 seater" outhouse slit trench!
I really like the videos where you've no plan and you don't know where are you going... the element of surprise and explore makes it much better! Thanks for sharing.
I'm now 60 years old with bad knee replacements. I'm sure my backpacking days are over. When I was a teenager, I did alot of solo trips. You keep my heart energized. I love your adventures.
Dude Big Lol, I’m so glad I’m not the only one who gets tired. I tell him to slow down just a little.... I just can’t keep up. Going along is a lot of though. 😂😂 👍
Luke, I was on a hike in the deep woods once and found a hole in the ground similar to the one you found. A few yards from the hole was some old barrels with ax marks in them. After I got home I asked my Grandad what he thought that might have been and he told me it was an old moonshine still that had been busted up by the sheriff's dept. years ago. Could be what you found too.
Another excellent installment. If I could swing it, I'd grab my son, some cash, and lots of food and head to Pisgah. It looks quite wonderful. Your tidbits of wisdom amid the atmosphere of fear and confusion are welcome, to be sure. These images are refreshing and well received. Thank you for what you do. The depression you pointed out is likely a sinkhole or a washout where a tree once grew. I'm sure dear Susie was watching anxiously when you began to shed the sweater and say "it's getting hot" lol Keep up the good work and thank you for the example you set. Integrity is refreshing. Keep doing what you do. S&H.
Luke👍👍 Great walk about. Weather was superb and the film came across perfect👌 The back and forth camera work was exhaustive I'd imagine, thanks for a quality watch😊 That divot in the ground...Bigfoot bed🤔 Nice trip, see ya next time. Enjoy!
Thanks for another great adventure Luke. Watching this video get my hiking juices flowing. Makes me want to get out there and explore unknown destinations. Just to get away from all this craziness for awhile.
Great trip Luke, thanks for sharing and taking us along.Think Kuiu actually may have a black tent, not sure. I believe the pit you came across might be a bunker for hunting deer...I have seen them before myself.
Love Grayson highlands/ Mount Rogers NRA My favorite trails are the ones are the ones less traveled. Your going at the right time. No overgrown trail, no pop up thunderstorms and no ticks! Especially since we did not have a winter.
You know, I can't help but to think how much work goes into making these videos. Take the scenes of you just walking by, placing and then retrieving the camera and then the editing work to stitch it all together to make a pretty good video. I had subscribed to your channel a while back then noticed while watching this video that I wasn't subscribed. Oh well resubscribed and all is well. Keep up the good work Luke, your dedication shows in the quality of your videos. Stay safe in these trying times my friend, wishing you Susie and the family all the best from Canada. Thanx for the great content.
Great video as always. It would be great to see a review of outdoor shoes, especially those to accommodate with soaked or muddy soils. Take care and stay safe!
"Land Subsidence" is a gradual settling or sudden sinking of the Earth's surface owing to subsurface movement of earth materials. The principal causes of land subsidence are aquifer-system compaction, drainage of organic soils, underground mining, hydrocompaction, natural compaction, sinkholes, and thawing permafrost. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidence
Hello Luke, thank you for sharing another fun filled adventurous outing. I look forward to the next exciting outing. Take care, be safe, have fun and stay Healthy. 🤗
Great hike loved watching this is so peaceful out there .:) Love to see your next trail.:) I loved the owls so beautiful hearing them. :) I lay at night in bed and I hear them before I drift off to sleep I feel like they sing me to sleep on owl lulluaby. :) When I was young our mom and dad took us to shores lake to camp in tents and hike to white mountain so beautiful in summer and early wintertime. :) Have a great time be safe and stay healthy. :) Hugs Toni g. :) P.S. Would love to know more and see what Susie knits up from time to time love yarn crafts.:) Hugs and love to you both awesome family. :)
Luke, when in unfamiliar territory, and on a time restriction, better to stick to known trail. I have been lost in those mountains as a 13 yo boy. I thought I was utterly familiar with my mountain. Well, I still had some learning to do. Whew... The story is too long. I’m 63 now, obviously made it home. I ended up walking clean off the mountain and halfway across the valley before I found a house to ask for a phone. It was late and Mom was not happy, especially when she heard where I ended up. Thanks for the great adventure and super video. Texas
The hole would be about the right size for a "cochon de lait" or pig roast, roasting the pig in a pit covered with coals. I like the water filter. Tent looks real light. You could get some of those "Hot Hands" from the Wally to warm up your frozen snack. They get pretty warm pretty quick and last a few minutes. They also spontaneously reheat when handled again. Coffee sounds like just the ticket for the time and place. Thanks for having us along.
Luke, I am always intrigued with the amount of stuff that comes out of your backpack!! It is like a virtual hardware store. Always relaxing to watch you hiking on those trails. Keep safe.
You are so lucky to be able to enjoy such beautiful and isolated woodland in the USA. Here in the UK it is harder to get away from people and enjoy nature in that way. Thanks for posting Luke.
I have a Biblical timeline for what is coming for the tribulation if anyone is interested. And many of the deceptions to look out for..and how to be saved. For one..don't take this vaccine..it's looking like itll be a quantum dot dissolvable patch on the hand and is the mark of the beast.
That pit looks like a rifle pit from the civil war. I used to be a civil war reenactor and at times we would run across these in the woods. It was awesome to set a skirmish line and man one of these relics from the men we were paying tribute to.
Another great video/adventure Luke! Not sure about the hole other than a great conversation piece. I've never seen a black tent before either, but it looked nice & looks like a large footprint. How did you like it, I'm sure a review will be coming later. Always a pleasure my friend! Hope you & Susie stay healthy& well!!

Hi! I,d like to thank you for all the hard work that you both do!! Keep going to wonderful places.! Two things came to mind in regards to the hole you found . yeah I do a lot of bushwacking and off trail hiking. Sharpens my land nav skills. Compass and my topo are my tools of choice, hardly ever use my gps unless I have really messed up.
Moonshine still hole. I grew up in the Francis Marion Forrest in the Low Country of SC. There are a lot of these man made holes throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. Moonshiners would build their stills in a hole to minimize/hide the profile of the still. We had a horse farm with several of these just inside the woodline. I once found a double barrel shot gun leaning against a a tree next to one of these holes.
Hello Luke, awesome video, love the chest rig you are wearing I just may have to get one or if I can find the ribs pack you also have. Have a wonderful weekend take care and God bless you and your Family always. 🇺🇸🔥☕️👼🏻👼🏻🇺🇸
Your filming is awesome! It just reminds me of Survivorman; watching him film a dramatic walk away, then walking back to get the camera LOL Thanks for taking the time and hiking the tail twice!
Great video. I love Grayson Highlands and that whole area. We did Grayson Highlands, Mt. Rogers, Mt. Mitchell, and Tennessee trails last summer. What was the chest pack you were using. I need to get one. Thanks.
Another great video. That is a shallow grave. No two ways about it. It appears they never got to use it or it has long since been evacuated...but that was meant to conceal a body.
Thanks for all your awesome, and informative videos with beautiful landscapes to go with it. I was wondering about your pants. Do you have a review video of just them? If not how do they do in the cold, rain, durability, etc. Thanks again for the videos. Very glad I found, and subbed to your channel.
That hole could be a few things. Old civil war fox hole, a collapsed grave (lets hope not lol) or just a simple sink hole. Definitely crazy find. Love the videos luke hope to catch you on the trail one day
We get those divets or sinkholes often here on Vancouver Island and it's the large rocks in the ground that had a build up of soil dropping down after the thaw. Be careful with that cause it can drop down dozens of feet again or not depends if there's large rocks and limbs holding up the rest of the soil. Have you tried Happy Yak freezed dried food? It's the best thing since sliced bread, they are the largest size veggies and meat you're going to get in their meals.... Shrimp Curry is delicious.
Good question. I have never seen a black tent before either. Speaking of odd ball tents, when you get funds and time how about testing one of those shift pods. Not lightweight by any means but the wind resistance and overall design seem to be pretty cool.
I believe the hole in the ground is called a Cradle Knoll. It’s where a large tree tipped over many years ago. Thanks for putting out videos. It’s the next best thing to getting out hiking ourselves! Stay safe and well.
xdmkii The soil from the upturned root ball may eventually fall back to the ground and fill in one side. It looks like many holes I’ve seen of recently tipped over trees in Northern Minnesota after the 1999 Blow down.
Well done video. I am familiar with both trails in that we have hiked and 8 camped there. Neither is used much-thank goodness. Your viewers may not know how crowded the Mt. Roger's area can be especially with the pesky little Boy Scouts and college kids doing wilderness weekends. So this can be a nice place for a weekend outing. Helton Creek has good trout fishing.
I say it all the time and I'm going to continue saying it. The effort this guy puts into these videos is staggering.
I like that he uses the gear for a while before giving a final score.
A friend of mine purchased a really nice backpack last autumn and one of the shoulder straps snapped at the seams (on the foam padding tip).
This was right after filling it up and test fitting minutes before heading out the door.

Luke has something that I haven't seen in a LONG time... and people are drawn to it... I think they call it... INTEGRITY ! He truly is the REAL DEAL !
Well, then, Bobo, don't say it again. Give someone else a chance 😉😊👍Then, again, maybe people need to have it brought to their attention. ☺
Luke in your camping videos before you go to sleep you always say about watching a movie. When I go camping, I’m watching through the 10 years of your videos. They’re that good keep up the good work.

My favorite videos too
Luke, that depression in the ground looks as if a may have been an old fighting position left over from the Civil War.
That’s what I was thinking also.
Use a metal detector out there..
This is the true way to practice social distancing! Well done.
I'm now 60 years old with bad knee replacements. I'm sure my backpacking days are over. When I was a teenager, I did alot of solo trips. You keep my heart energized. I love your adventures.

Hello Luke, thank you for sharing another fun filled adventurous outing. I look forward to the next exciting outing. Take care, be safe, have fun and stay Healthy. 🤗
Hey Luke love the adventures! Really like it when you show were you are going on the map.

Wish you could provide a gear list of the stuff you used on this excursion.
A black tent, nope unless its used to supply heat when the suns out. Great job on the camping, getting to the outdoors Luke. I do so enjoy it.
Luke, I am always intrigued with the amount of stuff that comes out of your backpack!! It is like a virtual hardware store.
Always relaxing to watch you hiking on those trails. Keep safe.
sinkhole good chance there a cave. love the pack and the tent. beautiful county out there. Stay safe my friend
Really enjoy going along with you on these adventures, can't wait for the next one!! Safe travels!!
You are so lucky to be able to enjoy such beautiful and isolated woodland in the USA.

Thanks for posting Luke.
Good stuff my friend. Stay safe amd keep the videos coming
Outstanding. Enjoying the videos!
What a great adventure 😊beautiful forest
let the apocalypse adventure begin!
I have a Biblical timeline for what is coming for the tribulation if anyone is interested. And many of the deceptions to look out for..and how to be saved. For one..don't take this vaccine..it's looking like itll be a quantum dot dissolvable patch on the hand and is the mark of the beast.
@@someoneofgods2620 You have lost your mind!

Good catch on the hole!
So many people don’t even look for anomalies on the ground.
Love the black tent, great for those more posh overnight adventures... lol
The depression in the ground is probably the place where an old tree has fallen down or been blown over and what's left has been taken away or rotted.
Luke I hope you and your family stay safe and are well
Another great video/adventure Luke! Not sure about the hole other than a great conversation piece. I've never seen a black tent before either, but it looked nice & looks like a large footprint. How did you like it, I'm sure a review will be coming later. Always a pleasure my friend! Hope you & Susie stay healthy& well!!
Man I can't wait to get back out in the woods after this Virius blows over. For now Im camping on my property to stay safe. At least its better than nothing for now. Stay safe brother. Cant wait for more videos. Take care Stength And Honor!!!! 💪💪

We did the same. Plus charity service. I was raised "in the city" Going out to the woods was awesome. Never attained Eagle. No big deal. I learned much.
@Aidan Donnelly does it matter?
i dont think we ever did that in my day, tho i DID live in FL at the time in the 90s
@Alex wow take your bs somewhere else, you are probably one of those indoor kids not really living life.
@Alex
Ok zoomer
Your hiking in my area.i live about 45 minutes from mount Rogers. Use to hike those mountains when I was younger.the trails most used are the Appalachian trail.
I have a black Hillebeg Anjan 2. Great video thanks. Stay safe...finding it hard to stay indoor here in the UK as we have lockdown. x
Finally got around to watching this video. I was out of State for a bit driving my Father back home then flying back to my home. (Florida to Massachusetts and back again.) Ahh well that's what happens when you believe in obligations.
Great Video and it looked like a lot of fun.
Hey Luke, another excellent adventure. Perfect mix of scenery and narration. Very nice use of self filming. You must of hiked a thousand miles just to retrieve your camera. You really are an expert for outdoor adventure. Congrats

I love how you make the national forest trails seem like backcountry danger lol
God bless you. We all needed this
You'll never find the entrance to that trail without the magic chant
The name Inyo is Shoshone I believe, and happens to be one of counties the Sequoia National Forest and Mt. Whitney is located. (California)
Luke: Has trekking poles. Uses stick to cross stream. XD
As for what you found, that looks like a Sasquatch Sleeping Bag. You fill it with leaves and you can sleep warm all night by burying yourself except for your face.
Awesome video update 👍🌲
Maybe an old homesites out house depression? Stay safe my friend, and keep the vids coming as long as you can
Hi! I,d like to thank you for all the hard work that you both do!! Keep going to wonderful places.! Two things came to mind in regards to the hole you found . It may be a survey trench dug by some one prospecting.? Or my fav.. Moonshiners trying to lower the profile of a still.! Or maybe Jimmy H. is there!! Good Luck to you and yours!
they found a hole like that on an island in Canada and they have been digging for 200 years trying to figure it out...
Looks to maybe be an air shaft to a mine.Great job again Luke.
Did anyone else notice that Luke sometimes speaks without moving his lips? It's as if he just thinks the words and we hear them. Pretty cool, Luke.
Thanks for doing these videos during these strange times.
This was an awesome way to spend my night....
yeah I do a lot of bushwacking and off trail hiking. Sharpens my land nav skills. Compass and my topo are my tools of choice, hardly ever use my gps unless I have really messed up.

Nice one... love these discovery walks!
Great video. I love Grayson Highlands and that whole area. We did Grayson Highlands, Mt. Rogers, Mt. Mitchell, and Tennessee trails last summer. What was the chest pack you were using. I need to get one. Thanks.
Can not get enough of your videos. Wish I had more time to get out, going to find it somehow. I thought that might be an old dugout shelter?

xdmkii The soil from the upturned root ball may eventually fall back to the ground and fill in one side.
