As I was holding the Pimax Crystal throughout the recording, and due to the way I was holding it, my left arm was killing me by the end! 🤣 Chapters in the description to skip to relevant parts if needed 👍
@JugandoRD It is very heavy, and some people find it really uncomfortable, some find it really good. Luckily I find the weight balance to be perfect, but I did have to put bits of an old facial interface under each side of the facial interface foam so it fitted my face shape. I did order the thicker facial foam which should help with that but it hasn't arrived yet 🤞
I bought the Crystal. Two of them actually, since the first one was defective. And the Lighthouse Faceplate. All three pieces of hardware turned out to be defective, and I had a heck of a time getting Pimax to finally give in and agree to refunding it all. It took weeks of back and forth with Pimax support, and they were very resistant. The whole thing was a nightmare. This video understates just how bad the audio latency issue is, and how much of a non-solution their low latency mode "fix" is. Anyone considering buying a Crystal should research this issue before buying. We're not talking about a small amount of audio latency here. It was around half a second for me. Low latency mode does resolve the latency, but instead the audio quality becomes horrible, high pitched, and shrill. It's really bad. Essentially the sound system on the Crystal doesn't work, and you have to use ear buds or some other alternative instead. And Pimax hasn't been able to fix these problems for months so far. It's unfortunate because minus the issues, the Pimax Crystal is... or would be... the most powerful VR headset available on the market today. Its visuals blow other headsets out of the water. It's audio quality is at least as good as the Valve Index. But if you buy it today, you are buying a beta product that isn't ready for release to the general public yet. For some customers, it works without a hitch out of the gate. But the chances that any particular customer will encounter significant issues is high. For example, not everyone is getting the severe audio latency issue, but I've seen estimates that it affects as much as half of their customer base. And that's only one of the issues that plagues the Crystal. It's really a roll of the dice how the experience will go for any particular customer at this point. And you can't expect great support from the company if you do have problems. Pimax is continuing to work on the Crystal, and I do believe they will eventually resolve its issues, and it will become a stable and great product (like their previous 8KX). But it still needs months of development before it gets there.
Thanks for the comment, and sorry if I understated the audio issue, for me it doesn't feel that bad at all, but then I'm not relying on it in games like beat saber etc. Hopefully Pimax will sort some of these issues, but until then it really does come down to what issues each user will experience and how much it bothers them. I do wonder about what other headsets will be available by the time this headset is perfected, but for me I have been lucky to have a relatively smooth experience (except for the monitor issue, and WMR max resolution code)
@@DayDreamerVR Not everyone reports having audio latency at all. The amount of audio latency I experienced with the Crystal nobody could possibly miss. If you noticed audio latency but didn't think it was all that bad, then perhaps it was present but much less than in my case. Perhaps different customers experience different amounts.
@SargonDragon I think people do experience different amounts, or it matters more for some people. Some people have reported audio latency of upto half a second, mine isn't that bad at all 👍
good review. I returned mine due to too many issues. The main being the weird focus of the lens causing eye strain and the audio lag. So close to being an amazing headset spoiled by weird design choices and lazy half-done fixes.
Thanks, yeah, it's far from perfect. The audio lag is due to the on board processing of the audio, but if you put on the low latency mode you get raw audio which sounds worse. If you use a USB C port for the audio on the headset then latency is low and it sounds good. A user shouldn't have to do weird workarounds like this though, especially at the price, but then Pimax is much smaller than PICO and Meta and even Meta/PICO have some weird issues. It could have been the best headset with no issues, but now it's all down to how much a user can bare some of the Pimax's negatives
@@wickfut-racing Yes unfortunately. Completely defeats the point of having any audio on the Pimax Crystal, but worth trying a USB C to 3.5mm adapter, or USB C headphones if you really do need the latency to be lower
@@DayDreamerVR I ended up downloading some Windows 11 EQ software to try and tame the treble. But the Pimax processing must boost the low end quite a lot and nothing I did made anything under 70hz audible. Do you have the distant object focus issue? I tried 2 different headsets and both gave me eye strain when focusing on say, mountains in Skyrim, or further on down the track in AMS2. I really tried to love the Crystal but my eyes just aren't compatible with whatever they're doing in the lenses. When I returned it I bought an Aero instead, have you tried one? I was pleasantly surprised by it. It looks like a Crystal with the local dimming disabled and less vertical FOV , but is much more relaxed on my eyes. Looking to hopefully try a VR1 when they release.
@wickfut8917 I kind of know what you mean about something strange with the focus. When I first used it it felt very different, but I don't know if I got used to it or if it was an issue in mine as its fine for me to use. I haven't tried the Aero, I considered it but I'm not keen on available steam vr controllers. Sounds like it's a good option though 👍
Amazing review, some reviewers whose names rhyme with "Jarl Bosling" would have ran into the resolution issue , put no effort into figuring out the issue, blame Pimax for being rubbish and called it a day. Anyone like that need not consider this headset .
Thanks, and I'm so glad I kept going as its totally worth it in the end, and I didn't feel I could comment on the headset until I figured out any faults 👍
@@DayDreamerVR Yeah when I first got mine I played AirCar and was blown away, but everything else I played was just "meh" . I asked myself, how is it that AirCar could look so crazy good, and project cars, assetto , Alyx look no better than my 8KX. It turns out after some fiddling, that I had to change my approach. I turned down all of the graphics settings and prioritized resolution (I know duh..right?) Then I increased graphic detail and all I can say is wow every game is unbelievable now. The problem some people have with Pimax is that they don't realize that it's not always the case and sometimes you need to get in deep with all of the settings Pimax offers you.
@antjones2281 Glad it's working well for you now. I keep my resolution at 1.0 in Pimax Play and 100% in Steam VR. I wish I could super sample a bit to see what benefit it would have, it just takes so much to drive the headset at these high resolutions! 👍
When you say you deleted the max resolution in the steam file, what do you mean exactly? did you just remove the "3240" number? or did you delete the whole folder? does it create a new one? Thanks.
great review and infos and many thanks. just quick question, i m looking for the optical thinner connection cable, i can t find that in pimax store. the optical cable there is not compatible for the crystal. could provide the product link or the exact specs of that cable please? i m very interested in that cable, i believe its also a longer 6 m cable? many thanks.
I love this headset. I use a 2070 Super card, an i7 processor and about 64 GB of ram. I do not notice weight in use. I have been using it for IL2 , Flying Circus and Blade and Sorcery.. I generally get around 50 frames a second in the flight sims.. I set it on 90hz, as I suspect that the 72hz is problematic. I have a problem with the left controller joystick. A replacement is on the way.
Def feels like the Crystal is the current top for sims, with all the caveat that it requires some tweaking and potential trouble shooting. For DCS it's been a great experience for me, even with the 2.9 patch for DCS being hot garbage for MP. Dig your reviews, keep up the good work!
Thank you 👍 I haven't yet tried DCS as I tend to do Msfs2020, but I have downloaded it so will be giving it a go asap, I feel I have been missing out! 😄
You can get one without controllers, and I've never had to change the battery, if you want to do 6 hours or longer you can connect a power cable to the side so you don't have to change the battery, and the battery does help to balance the headset. It's still very expensive though! Saying all this, keep an eye on the immersed Visor. It has the same FOV as the Crystal, same density of pixels, and comes without controllers. It hasn't yet been confirmed if it will work with steamvr, but it is very likely at some point, so could be excellent for flight or racing sims, again expensive though 👍
Pimax Crystal Light with External Tracking Face Plate without controllers powered by a Wire directly plugged in to the PC. With local dimming is available for pre order for $899. This is what I am going to get. 😉👌
I... honest question here: So I have the Quest 3 and it fixed the problem I had with using the Psvr2, which is the tiny sweet spot. Its also clearer, and PCVR with the Quest is nice and there's a lot of options compared to the Sony console, its just another universe really. So if I was to get something like this, super expensive, while it has what is supposed to be even better lenses than Q3, they come with a sweet spot? I... just can't with the sweet spot anymore. I honestly haven't used the Psvr2 since I got the Q3, and I really love Gran Turismo on that... but any small slide on the headset gets things blurrier, it used to drive me crazy having to fix the position every minute or so.
Unfortunately the sweet spot on the Pimax Crystal is also quite small, but it doesn't go blurry if you aren't exactly in it, things slightly warp instead. I would say the Pimax Crystal has the better lenses for maximising colour and brightness, where as the Quest 3 lenses are better for sweet spot, and edge to edge clarity. I would probably only recommend the Pimax Crystal for sim racing or flying. Hope that helps 👍
There could be loads of people thinking they're maxing out their graphics resolutions, but really are just stuck! I don't know why a max would even be needed! Let the people decide! 😀
@@DayDreamerVR this is going to happen more with WMR support ending and as people switch out of WMR to other platforms.i almost sold my Pico 4 because it was horrible due to this bug.
After a year and a half using the Crystal, it now all of a sudden very difficult to connect, and when it does it will disconnect in flight, and freeze my pc, then CTD! I can no longer fly! WTF is happening here Pimax??
I had a pimax crystal for a while, it went back, far too many issues, from weird warping at the periphary of the lenses, shocking Chromatic abberation and constant cut outs when in use. The DMAS audio is attrocious too and I was hoping they'd have fixed it with the crystal, unfortunately not. Getting Pimax to refund the purchase and return the head set to them was a major pain too. I finally got them to admit the unit was deffective and returned it. Got myself a quest pro for £150 (lucky ebay punt) and couldn't be happier with it. When you spend over 1500 on a headset you shouldn't be having to deal with issues that should have been caught by QA. I won't be getting a 12k or anything pimax again after this.
I loved the Quest Pro, great headset, so underrated. The Crystal isn't worth 3 times the price, or 10 times the price in your case! For me a displayport capable headset is still the best option for low latency and best quality image, especially in racing and flight sims, although if you don't mind the latency then meta devices with oculus link over Usb and a bitrate of 960Mbps does give a good image in sim racing/flying. Glad you're pleased with your purchase, the Quest Pro is an excellent headset👍
@@DayDreamerVR Oh agree there, but I use the quest pro now primarily with gravity sketch. But I have found that over the link with as you say a bitrate like 940-960 (though it is h264) gives a good result. That being said Virtual desktop with hevc 10 bit at 150mbs and around 40ms latency gets almost as good as a native display port headset. Eye tracking and the excellent lenses means you can really push details higher than other headsets. Though my Pico Neo Link still gets most of my time in sims, the Quest procould probably dethrone it soon.
@@theoldgitwatgames4640 I almost mentioned the PICO Neo 3 Link in my previous message! Again totally worth it, and a great headset for DP gaming 👍 Also I would have loved to try the Quest Pro with steam link and DFR to see what steam link is capable of, I don't have the Quest Pro now though
The link only (at the moment) has eye tracked foveated encoding, which still is a great thing for clarity. You get zero performance uplift from it, just a far clearer perceived image. However, mbuccia released an update for pimaxmagic4all that allows for eye tracked foveated rendering forwarded to steam too for the performance boost. It’s in virtual desktop too but to a far less aggressive manner. I’ve not tried it yet but I plan to
@@theoldgitwatgames4640how do you use the eyetracking for better performance? Only steam link uses foveated encoding for streaming but not foveated rendering, did I miss anything?known its not possible..
If you're a 4090 owner, you almost certainly need to steer clear of this headset. Why? For some reason the headset is "too much" for the 4090 to handle in terms of monitor outputs. I normally run a 4k@120hz monitor + 1440p@120hz and I needed to unplug the 4k monitor, and drop the 1440p monitor to 1600*1024 in order for the headset to successfully connect to my PC. Even scarier was that if I did not do this and attempted to use the headset, it would hard crash my PC. I did some searching online and found that this is a known issue. I have no clue how it's not talked about considering how many 4090 owners would be looking at this headset, and likely have a solid monitor set up anyways.
Interesting, I think this is an Nvidia limitation rather than Pimax? For example you can't run three monitors at the same time as the Crystal? I think that is the same with all GPU's, but it would be interesting to see if the Bigscreen Beyond or other high res display port headset has these issues. Unfortunately I don't have another headset to test, but good to know/be aware. I only have a 1440p and a 1080p monitor linked up so it's never been an issue for me (so far)
good to know. this headset seems like a really good option but it also has so many issues. I use the Odyssey OLED G9 which has the aspect ratio of 5120x1440p and a 4k 144hz second monitor. but it sounds like i would have issues as well... I would like eye tracking and something above a 90hz screen but there's not much of anything. I want the Index 2 when it comes out depending on the specifications of it but we dont have any details. Maybe if i hear they sort out this 4090 issue then maybe.
Can't get through set-up of my Crystal Sim. Error code 10938 says my gpu (4090) has too many monitors running. I only have one 720p 60hz monitor connected. Not a fan of Pimax software.
Sorry to hear that, I'm not aware of this issue (other than when you actually have 3 monitors plugged in and then the Crystal as well). I'd recommend going on the Pimax discord to see if anyone knows a fix. If I manage to find one I'll update, the Discord channel can be accessed here: discord.com/invite/gMzXPDgn
iam so unsure what to get. the more i read and watch about vr headsets, the less sure iam a, what to buy. i now understand that theres no "best in everything" headset, all the elements of a vr system, are basically like skills in a skilltree in rpgs. some spend many points in A, some in B, some in C and some tried to have all the 3 equal etc. my first though was to get a quest 3.. but: iam kinda of sensetive to the screendoor effect and from what ive seen in through the lense footage, its worse on the q3 then on the q2 due to the clear lenses. as i wanna go into pcvr only, the standalone hardware is dead weight to me and theres no display port for the quest3, meaning even if i go cabled on highest bitrate setting, foliage heavy games like skyrim, will be artefact heavy from what people report. some people compared 800bit compression rate to youtube 1080p and 1080p show heavy compression artefacts on foliage, its like the arch enemy of compression. so these 2 factors: always visbile compression and sde visbility rule out a lot of headset. to be frank here: the only headset i ever tried myself, was the ps5vr2 and that basically set the standard of what i want. sde was visble there, yes, but not intruding or annoying, so thats the level i want. fov was ok, though v-fov COULD be better. so, all that said, that basically leaves only the crystal, the aero and the beyond, which all have pros and cons crystal would need a 6090ti to run every on full res with 120fps, even a 4090 cant run a slightly modded skyrim at stable 60 and people say crystals performance is like 20% worse then the aero. but the aero seemingly has a very tiny v-fov thats so small for a 999 dollar headset, that it would even be an insult for a 400 dollar headset. the beyond seems to tick all the boxes, but due to costum fit, i couldnt share it with my wife, since 56mm ipd vs 64mm ipd, which would force us to buy 2 of them. my hopes rested on the pico 5, which now got canceled yesterday.. and here i am again, unsure what the best option is
It is a really difficult market at the moment. There is so much interest and money in standalone, that this is where the focus can be. Aero at 999 is before tax, so for the UK is 1200 + the controllers and base stations, and like you say it isn't a perfect headset. There is a real gap in the market for a mid range display port capable headset. The low range DPVR E4 which im not a fan of, or PICO Neo 3 Link which is amazing for the price but needs modding for comfort, are options, and out of the two I'd recommend the pico neo 3 link. It has fresnel lenses though so edge to edge clarity isn't as good as the Quest 3/quest Pro, and it will have godrays, but it gives the option of low latency good image quality with display port, or wireless pcvr. It doesn't take such high hardware to run either, but like I say you will need to get a facial interface 3d printed for comfort and to increase fov as there are no aftermarket options. The Quest 3 in my view has less sde than quest 2, and through the lens can show sde much worse than it is to your eye. I still find the compression level very good at 960Mbps over oculus link with a USB c cable with the Quest 3, but Skyrim is notorious for being difficult to run and showing compression. The Bigscreen Beyond and pimax Crystal are good, but expensive, and if you want to run at 120hz then you will be lowering the resolution of them. It is a shame about the pico 5, but that was likely a year or so away, and now who knows when another display port option will become available. I hope my ramblings help, but if not I hope you manage to find something suitable until something more perfect for your use comes out 👍
i did indeed help, thank you for the response. and yes, i agree. the market currently has a big gap and thats the exact gap i want to be in. let me phrase it like this: there is no index 2, theres no reverb g3. sure, valve is brewing something, but that could still be 2 or 3 years away. but theres no 2022/2023 tech level lower highend / upper midrange pcvr headset out there. i bet that skyrim is notorious for that, so would be witcher, if it had a vr version. moving leafs and gras are what compression is bad at, even at high settings, yet i cant image, how 940mbit look, and can only go off peoples statements. its good to hear that through the lense footage captures sde different then the human eye.. are you by any chance able to compared the visibility of the ps5vr2's sde with the one on the quest 3? thing is, when it comes to hardware, iam usally the guy that likes to buy something thats a bit more expensive but can last me longer. i would treat a vr headset like a tv or monitor.. get a good one that youre happy with and keep it for 3-5 years without the need to upgrade because something is really subpar and now (which is contrary to the standalone market, where many people upgrade like smartphones..). the thing is: if standalone is where the money is, its where the market goes, meaning higher end pcvr device will stay even more niche and be more expensive, because theres not a lot of money coming in. when it comes to pcvr, iam running a 4080 with an 13600k. so theres power, but ofc its not a 4090 which handles higher resolutions way better. so my gut says: 2560px beyond could be the better choice, over 2880 with foveated rendering, since it seems that most of the time, its "only" like 10% fps improvment. but : does lower the resolution inside the headset make the image look as bad, as it does on a monitor? running games @ 1080p on my 1440p looks kinda awful i keep hearing people say: quest 3 brings 90% of the people, 90% of what the highend headset give you, for 1/3rd of the price but i cant help myself to always think "yes to people that arent picky and dont know what to certain things look like or are" but maybe iam in the wrong here, cuz as i said, never had a quest 3 infront of my eyes and cant say, if my fears about sde and compression artefacts are right. if money wanst a problem, my instinct would be to get 2 beyonds, for me and my wife, get baystations (not sure or 2 are enough?) and knuckles and keep that setup. but then, the aero would be the more economic choice, because it can be shared.. but we would have to live with what the people call letterbox fov. @@DayDreamerVR
@@dharkbizkit I did have the PSVR2 for about a month and during testing I found it to be a very good picture quality, but I sent it back because I couldn't stand the MURA, or whatever it was. For me it was like looking at stars when it was a black screen, and lots of dots over any other image. The Quest 3 in my opinion has similar sde to the psvr2, but without the MURA, but the colours on the psvr2 were more vibrant. Two base stations would be enough for the Beyond or Aero. Aero vertical fov is particularly bad and horizontal just slightly better than the Quest 2. The Pimax Crystal horizontal isn't much better with me being around 102 degrees. For some reason though it does feel enough. The Crystal has more of a rectangular fov so a bigger diagonal FOV than other headsets. Is your wife as bothered by compression/does she play Skyrim etc? You could always get a quest 3 for wireless pcvr then get a wired option so you have best of both for both scenarios, and would save money over two Beyonds for example. You could always buy a second facial interface (if you did get the Beyond) with your wife's face shape so you can both use both headsets. Hope you enjoy whatever you decide 👍

The Crystal is ok Great visuals however, The SW is just unstable. Sometimes works great sometimes glitches over and over. The facial interface is too wide and not comfortable. You will most likely need to modify it. Silly for such an expensive unit. I wish I waited.
Yeah, I have cut an old facial interface to wedge under the sides whilst I wait for the 15mm thick facial interface I ordered. I haven't had any issues with the software at all, so it's really interesting and frustrating the range of experiences people have. I'm not using the Pimax usb hub though, as I already have another usb powered hub, so this could be why mine is so stable. Hope you manage to sort yours, or that something comes out which could replace it 👍
Yeah, I was relatively lucky with the setup compared to others, glad I persevered, but could be hit and miss depending on how many issues you come across. Some beta software I am now testing has introduced connection issues, my fault for trying the beta software, but still annoying. Hope you find/have another headset that works for you 👍
The controller button assignment is garbage. The Y and B buttons are assigned to the pause menu on game same with the right controller menu button, making most games unplayable properly. Basically the Y, B, Left controller menu, and right controller menu buttons are assigned to the pause menu when it should be only the left controller menu button assinged to the pause menu. The pimax xr tools emulate oculus touch controller doesn't do anything. I've complained about this multiple times and nothing after months. Also you need to check the game setting under devices setting. It was rendering game at double the headsets native resolution and I blew my rtx 3080 and had to replace it with a rtx 4070, then I discovered why the 3080 blew. Was running walking dead: saints and sinners at roughly 5760x5760p per eye. They really should have it set at the native resolution ( balanced setting) as default. The pimax 12k is suppost to be around 12000x3000 for both eyes. So ya definetly will need a rtx 4090 or 5090 whenever that comes out.
4090 or 5090 won't be enough for the 12k. The Crystal actually needs to run at about 5k x 4k to get its native resolution due to correction for the lenses. The 12k will need way more! 🤔
It is now May 2024. Well no matter what you say, I am very hesitant to buy a PIMAX product. First off, they are trying to do too many versions of the Crystal lite and not focusing on making one good quality version of this product. Another thing is the headset is to big and bulky for me. Lastly, the prices for these products are all over the map. i will watch all the reviews when the Crystal lite headsets come out, but I am in no hurry to jump on the PIMAX band wagon. I have watched several videos now of users trying the Crystal headset and they were not happy with it. Bye
Yeah, I'd still be hesitant if I hadn't got it working so well. I really like the idea of the Pimax Lite, the standalone mode on the Crystal was pointless and increased the cost. Pimax do over promise and underdeliver, however by keeping most of the stuff the same, there is a significant amount of work they won't need to do. In relation to the bulk, I only used it for racing or flight sims. So it all depends on what you want to use it for and expectations. For clarity, at the price of the Crystal lite, that might not be any other direct competitors, and the Crystal is much clearer than headsets like the Quest 3
I have Q pro, Q 3 and Pimax Crystal and I've been in the position of really really considering buying Crystal because of the 4090 i have and the resolution, quality. JUST DON'T BUY THE GOD DAMN THING, its fucking heavy, can't really play Skyrim because of the weight, worsen my neck strains and my head hurts, the lenses cause so much eye strain. If you re really into the rendering resolution, I would say keep waiting for a better HMD at this point and get a Q3. Q3 + bobovr headstrap even thought its already 80 % of the Crystal weight, it feel completely different, this headset is un-enjoyable, crappy software and debugging, bad lenses (not horrible because of the rendering resolution, but if you talk about clarity, small sweet spot + bad e2e just kill it). JUST DONT BUY it, it doesn't worth your money at this point and I dont think the 12k or the upcoming crystal will do the trick since it will has the same form factor. wasted 1k5 and will never put my money in their product again.
Completely understand. I would never use it for anything other than sim racing and flight sims, which I loved in the crystal, and I didn't have too much hassle, but I no longer have it, so maybe that is why I don't have an issue with it anymore. I sold it as it prevented me trying other headsets as my funds were in the crystal. Even though I say that, I haven't found a headset I found better for sim racing, but I just use the Q3 for the moment, it's good enough.
@@markbrown1247 yeah, the quality for DCS is freaking good but the other factors just downplay the headset a lots which I feel so bad, considering the upcoming 2 from Pimax also have the same form factor, its sad

I first thought it was a simple matter of speed and so I tried listening to it at 75% speed. Not so. It's the fact that it's too robotic and disconnected in nature.
Yes I am, the glasses have monitors in-they are Xreal Airs and I have scripted it. I haven't done any more videos for a long time now, I gave this a go for a year, improving bit by bit, but it takes so much time that I now don't have, so yeah, stick to a better UA-camrs 👍

@@DayDreamerVR do you mean use a pair of usb ear buds rather than DMAS?
I turned down all of the graphics settings and prioritized resolution (I know duh..right?)
Then I increased graphic detail and all I can say is wow every game is unbelievable now.
Great review - I appreciate your balanced approach on your reviews
No problem 👍
When you say you deleted the max resolution in the steam file, what do you mean exactly? did you just remove the "3240" number? or did you delete the whole folder? does it create a new one? Thanks.
Sorry I wasn't clear=I deleted that line of text. You could also change the 3240 number to a higher number 👍
@@DayDreamerVR thank you!
nice review, thank you!
No problem, glad you liked it 👍
great review and infos and many thanks. just quick question, i m looking for the optical thinner connection cable, i can t find that in pimax store. the optical cable there is not compatible for the crystal. could provide the product link or the exact specs of that cable please? i m very interested in that cable, i believe its also a longer 6 m cable? many thanks.
Thanks, glad you liked the review. Here is the link to the optical cable which is 6m: pimax.com/product/pimax-6m-fiber-optical-cable/
Glad you like it, I have just been sim racing on mine this evening, worked faultlessly and had great visuals and the balance/weight felt fine 👍
Wow, mine is arriving tomorrow and with a 3080 I am a bit anxious, do you use the upscaling? Foveated rendering must help...
@@DL-do5xr I do not use foveated rendering. I run at 90hz. I now use a 4070Ti Super
If they came out with a PC version no controllers and no batterys and for the right price I would be intrested.
Pimax themselves have said there's a fan inside the crystal, it just runs at a very low RPM, wish we could adjust it.
That would be good, but I wonder if it would move any air about the facial interface, or just cool the XR2 chip 🤔
the 3240 Bug is real! It's so frustrating. I went G2 to Pico 4 and experienced it also.
@@b6s4shelter I didn't think of that, you're right, so many people could experience this soon!
You should really give Almalence for the Crystal a try, it helps a lot with chromatic aberration.
Definitely, I haven't had a proper chance to look at it yet but I look forward to giving it a go 👍
After a year and a half using the Crystal, it now all of a sudden very difficult to connect, and when it does it will disconnect in flight, and freeze my pc, then CTD!
If I manage to find one I'll update, the Discord channel can be accessed here: discord.com/invite/gMzXPDgn

iam so unsure what to get. the more i read and watch about vr headsets, the less sure iam a, what to buy. i now understand that theres no "best in everything" headset, all the elements of a vr system, are basically like skills in a skilltree in rpgs. some spend many points in A, some in B, some in C and some tried to have all the 3 equal etc. my first though was to get a quest 3.. but: iam kinda of sensetive to the screendoor effect and from what ive seen in through the lense footage, its worse on the q3 then on the q2 due to the clear lenses.
as i wanna go into pcvr only, the standalone hardware is dead weight to me and theres no display port for the quest3, meaning even if i go cabled on highest bitrate setting, foliage heavy games like skyrim, will be artefact heavy from what people report. some people compared 800bit compression rate to youtube 1080p and 1080p show heavy compression artefacts on foliage, its like the arch enemy of compression. so these 2 factors: always visbile compression and sde visbility rule out a lot of headset. to be frank here: the only headset i ever tried myself, was the ps5vr2 and that basically set the standard of what i want. sde was visble there, yes, but not intruding or annoying, so thats the level i want. fov was ok, though v-fov COULD be better. so, all that said, that basically leaves only the crystal, the aero and the beyond, which all have pros and cons
crystal would need a 6090ti to run every on full res with 120fps, even a 4090 cant run a slightly modded skyrim at stable 60 and people say crystals performance is like 20% worse then the aero. but the aero seemingly has a very tiny v-fov thats so small for a 999 dollar headset, that it would even be an insult for a 400 dollar headset. the beyond seems to tick all the boxes, but due to costum fit, i couldnt share it with my wife, since 56mm ipd vs 64mm ipd, which would force us to buy 2 of them. my hopes rested on the pico 5, which now got canceled yesterday.. and here i am again, unsure what the best option is
It is a really difficult market at the moment. I hope my ramblings help, but if not I hope you manage to find something suitable until something more perfect for your use comes out 👍
i did indeed help, thank you for the response. and yes, i agree. the market currently has a big gap and thats the exact gap i want to be in. let me phrase it like this: there is no index 2, theres no reverb g3. sure, valve is brewing something, but that could still be 2 or 3 years away. but theres no 2022/2023 tech level lower highend / upper midrange pcvr headset out there.
i bet that skyrim is notorious for that, so would be witcher, if it had a vr version. moving leafs and gras are what compression is bad at, even at high settings, yet i cant image, how 940mbit look, and can only go off peoples statements. its good to hear that through the lense footage captures sde different then the human eye.. are you by any chance able to compared the visibility of the ps5vr2's sde with the one on the quest 3?
thing is, when it comes to hardware, iam usally the guy that likes to buy something thats a bit more expensive but can last me longer. i would treat a vr headset like a tv or monitor.. get a good one that youre happy with and keep it for 3-5 years without the need to upgrade because something is really subpar and now (which is contrary to the standalone market, where many people upgrade like smartphones..). the thing is: if standalone is where the money is, its where the market goes, meaning higher end pcvr device will stay even more niche and be more expensive, because theres not a lot of money coming in.
when it comes to pcvr, iam running a 4080 with an 13600k. so theres power, but ofc its not a 4090 which handles higher resolutions way better. so my gut says: 2560px beyond could be the better choice, over 2880 with foveated rendering, since it seems that most of the time, its "only" like 10% fps improvment. but : does lower the resolution inside the headset make the image look as bad, as it does on a monitor? running games @ 1080p on my 1440p looks kinda awful
i keep hearing people say: quest 3 brings 90% of the people, 90% of what the highend headset give you, for 1/3rd of the price but i cant help myself to always think "yes to people that arent picky and dont know what to certain things look like or are" but maybe iam in the wrong here, cuz as i said, never had a quest 3 infront of my eyes and cant say, if my fears about sde and compression artefacts are right.
if money wanst a problem, my instinct would be to get 2 beyonds, for me and my wife, get baystations (not sure or 2 are enough?) and knuckles and keep that setup. but then, the aero would be the more economic choice, because it can be shared.. but we would have to live with what the people call letterbox fov.
Yeah, I have cut an old facial interface to wedge under the sides whilst I wait for the 15mm thick facial interface I ordered. Yep, clearly still a HMD for very patient tinkerers. Alas, I simply would not have the time.
You're obviously reading everything from a screen, and you are very disconnected from the content making this video very difficult to listen to.
