I march in the parade of liberty but as long as I love you I'm not free how long must I suffer such abuse won't you let me see you smile one time before I turn you loose❤️
Maybe it's not only about her, but his faith as well. Either way it's a sweet, loving, and moving song. I like the music to this version. As with all Dylan lyrics they are meaningful.
thank you . its hard to find full albums like blood on the tracks i guess is what it is called, but when i pull it up there is only2 songs on it and thats it. same thing with desire.
yeah, it's many things. how can we talk about love without faith, or the idea of abandonment with the idea of losing faith? it is very moving, especially in the sense that it's dylan moving away from a relationship, but its as sweet and loving as it can be while saying all those things. I think its proof the character cannot love anymore and his final request is some sort of goodbye
Up to me .. Carribean wind.. and here Abandoned Love, 3 songs that any singer-songwriter would trade their left nut for if they could have written anything similar.
So is most of his songs. Then maybe not there is always a song behind the song always a meaning without a meaning just a song that he wrote and loves to sing, he is the love of his life, he sings about LIFE.

Oh darling, i hope we get together again. I'm so sorry for the mistake I made and i'll never be able to undo what I have done but know I'd give anything in the world and more to make you happy. And build the future the both of us would have wanted in the first place.
When you think of songs, she's your lover now, Up to me, This classic Abandoned love, Carribbean Wind, Lord Protect my child, Foot of pride, Blind Willie McTell, that's only a few, the guy is irrepassable, if there's such a word🤔👋🤗
What I heard is that he took this off the Desire album and put in "Joey" instead. This is such a superior song to the one he eventually chose to include that it boggles the mind.
That's a really good point man. But one of Bob's running themes throughout his career is that you can never be free, not even birds. Lol, I promised myself to not read or respond to UA-cam comments anymore. WhoopsieDaisy!
Steve Wilson you are right about comments- i am going to delete this account and i don't want to read comments on youtube at all too. UA-cam is social network and social networks are bad thing in my opinion. About Bob Dylan- i have never thought about it but yeas you are right here too. I am russian from Saint-Petersburg and i like literature so this topic was a big issue of discussion in russian literature. (i mean a topic about "is man free or he depends on things around him"). So Bob Dylan's point of view is very close to Tolstoy's - Tolstoy actually didn't believe in human - he thought that man needs compassion, love, family and religion... ok sorry for my english. good bye
laburgy hmm.. i think he was right and wrong at the same time... XX century showed that Tolstoy was right in many topics but still his disbelief in humans is something that i don't want to accept(even if he was right). Ok , it is big topic about nature of human (that is probably main topic of WHOLE literature and art). I have an ambivalent opinion about Bob Dylan's views on freedom and love... it is hard to express in one comment. Do you know William Faulkner? I love his book "Sound and Fury" - it is saying everything about that. And i love Bob Dylan too - he is great humanist and probably without him our world woud be a little worse ^))
This song was left off his album "Desire". I was blown away when I bought Biograph when it came out and heard this. It's one of my favourite Dylan songs.

I love this song, but I disagree. It's these singular, anomalous songs that make Dylan so great. You can tackle his main body of work and miss so much. I also don't think it's suited to be on Desire. The lost gem of Desire.

Yeah this one was one of my favorites for a while.
I have to double check with his catalog - am I delusional to like this one so much?
But no, I declare this is one of Bob Dylan's best songs!
I can hear the turning of the key
I’ve been deceived by the clown inside of me
I thought that he was righteous but he’s vain
Oh, something’s a-telling me I wear the ball and chain
My patron saint is a-fighting with a ghost
He’s always off somewhere when I need him most
The Spanish moon is rising on the hill
But my heart is a-tellin’ me I love ya still
I come back to the town from the flaming moon
I see you in the streets, I begin to swoon
I love to see you dress before the mirror
Won’t you let me in your room one time ’fore I finally disappear?
Everybody’s wearing a disguise
To hide what they’ve got left behind their eyes
But me, I can’t cover what I am
Wherever the children go I’ll follow them
I march in the parade of liberty
But as long as I love you I’m not free
How long must I suffer such abuse
Won’t you let me see you smile one time before I turn you loose?
I’ve given up the game, I’ve got to leave
The pot of gold is only make-believe
The treasure can’t be found by men who search
Whose gods are dead and whose queens are in the church
We sat in an empty theater and we kissed
I asked ya please to cross me off-a your list
My head tells me it’s time to make a change
But my heart is telling me I love ya but you’re strange
One more time at midnight, near the wall
Take off your heavy makeup and your shawl
Won’t you descend from the throne, from where you sit?
Let me feel your love one more time before I abandon it
They always asked to be unchained then return anyway
It's been way too long since I heard this song!

Why do I feel like Dylan is singing every song straight to me, mostly with me in mind, I guess because we are the same age, think the same, a romantic, grew up in a different time.
I feel the same thing and I was born in 1990
I Relate to Dylan very closely. I am a young 71, almost young as he.
I guess if you are 25 and love bd,you love him ,I have just claimed him as mine for the last 50 years,,guess ya'll can have maybe a toe
I think it is because Dylan is like Shakespeare. Such incisive and cutting insight into the human condition, it resonates deeply with many of us and then are those who just don't get it.
I'll not forget the night I saw him play this song in a small NYC nightclub, 1976. Slightly different words. Thought of it for years afterwards.

I march in the parade of liberty but as long as I love you I'm not free how long must I suffer such abuse won't you let me see you smile one time before I turn you loose❤️
This is such a wonderful song. I love the Spanish subtitles. Helps me figure it out.
The first time I have this beautiful song one to add to his long list of excellent music
There is something wonderfully supernatural about this guy! Love the f****r!😸🎼
Maybe it's not only about her, but his faith as well. Either way it's a sweet, loving, and moving song. I like the music to this version. As with all Dylan lyrics they are meaningful.
Thank you Cheryl
thank you . its hard to find full albums like blood on the tracks i guess is what it is called, but when i pull it up there is only2 songs on it and thats it. same thing with desire.
yeah, it's many things. how can we talk about love without faith, or the idea of abandonment with the idea of losing faith? it is very moving, especially in the sense that it's dylan moving away from a relationship, but its as sweet and loving as it can be while saying all those things. I think its proof the character cannot love anymore and his final request is some sort of goodbye
Do you know ThE beautiful cover from EVERLY BROTHERS?
Sí. Está muy bien.
I’m in love with this song and this era of Bob
Listen to ThE EVERLY BROTHERS cover
Me, too. Favorite era.
Such restrained, precision drumming
Drumming in this period of Dylan is some of the best in rock music!
The drumming in songs like Idiot Wind and Black Diamond Bay is fantastic, the drummer should havr stuck around.
Bob Dylan us my teacher my school of ever
lyrics style and mélodies
Astonishing lyrics
Hai ragione: capolavoro immenso....
One of Dylan's most amazing songs that never made it onto Desire. I've never been able to get enough of this song. It cuts.
Yes fantastic song and one of my all time Dylan favourites :)
A great song!
Those who say bob could not sing i think this speaks otherwise
Muy grande!
i never heard this cool
long life Bob Dylan
He knows lost love in his words
¡Felicidades, Bob!
Yet another Dylan classic that didn't make an album but other singer-songwriters would kill for.
Yes...Abandoned Love, Golden loom...
Agreed. Bob's throwaways are other musician's signature songs. And I'm not knocking all those other musicians.
well said
Up to me .. Carribean wind.. and here Abandoned Love, 3 songs that any singer-songwriter would trade their left nut for if they could have written anything similar.
What if the singer-songwriter is a woman?
the song is about the breakup with sara
So is most of his songs. Then maybe not there is always a song behind the song always a meaning without a meaning just a song that he wrote and loves to sing, he is the love of his life, he sings about LIFE.

This is magical, never tire of Bob Dylan and I go back right to the start,
Teddyb try 'World war III blues' the very relevant for these times :)
Always loved world war 111, early stuff. is your recommendation off the freewheeling album ?
@@Teddyb1939 yea teddyb and the video on UA-cam for talkin world war III blues by Pete sugarman is brilliant :) enjoy
Legendary
Bod Dylan's brilliance and honest sound will never abandon us. Old Hippy Cape Town.
It's always one of his greatest songs that for some reason, had been left unreleased.Dylan has a habit of doing that.
It's on the compilation of Biograph.
JRAN, the best..
Love this song.
Fantastic!
Beautiful beautiful.
I love this song it is incredible good.
I can see the turning of the key
I've been deceived by the clown inside of me
I thought that he was righteous but he's vain
Oh, something's a-telling me I wear the ball and chain
My patron saint is a-fighting with a ghost
He's always off somewhere when I need him most
The Spanish moon is rising on the hill
But my heart is a-tellin' me I love you still
I come back to the town from the flaming moon
I see you in the streets, I begin to swoon
I love to see you dress before the mirror
Won't you let me in your room one time before I finally disappear?
Everybody's wearing a disguise
To hide what they've got left behind their eyes
But me, I can't cover what I am
Wherever the children go I'll follow them
I march in the parade of liberty
But as long as I love you I'm not free
How long must I suffer such abuse?
Won't you let me see your smile before I turn you loose?
I've given up the game, I've got to leave
The pot of gold is only make-believe
The treasure can't be found by men who search
Whose gods are dead and whose queens are in the church
We sat in an empty theater and we kissed
I asked ya please to cross me off your list
My head tells me it's time to make a change
But my heart is telling me I love ya but you're strange
So one more time at midnight, near the wall
Take off your heavy make-up and your shawl
Won't you descend from the throne, from where you sit?
Let me feel your love one more time before I abandon it

i am completely new experience so dont worry i love you and respect you and iam 54 years old widow and need your love not friendship
He is our educator. I don't believe in my teachers. I believe Dylan. Number one and the rest follows.
I have just rediscovered this great song...may refresh my love of his music ..
Oh darling, i hope we get together again. I'm so sorry for the mistake I made and i'll never be able to undo what I have done but know I'd give anything in the world and more to make you happy.
And build the future the both of us would have wanted in the first place.
'Won't you let me see your smile before I turn you loose?', quite. ;)
Beautiful words and music. Bob sounding magical. violin with Bob just right.

My pick:
-Dont think 2
-Love minus zero
-If you see her, say hello
-You are a Big girl now
-Desolation Cow
+ 600.000 yeah !!!
When you think of songs, she's your lover now, Up to me, This classic Abandoned love, Carribbean Wind, Lord Protect my child, Foot of pride, Blind Willie McTell, that's only a few, the guy is irrepassable, if there's such a word🤔👋🤗
Supposedly, he wrote "Black Diamond Bay" for the "Desire" album to replace this song, but you'd think this song deserved to be put on some album.
It's on Biograph,
What I heard is that he took this off the Desire album and put in "Joey" instead. This is such a superior song to the one he eventually chose to include that it boggles the mind.
@@danmseattle975 I had never heard this song until now. Wow! Joey, the weakest song in more ways than one, should have been tossed for this one.
Perhaps this one was too personal; attached to such a recent breakup
OVERTHERE ANOTHER MASTERPIECE OF A GENIUS!!
Gracias!
Covered by The Everly Brothers, so I put both versions in my EB playlist. Thanks for the upload!
That cover IS amazing
i don't agree that you can't be free if you still love somebody. It is big steriotype. I think a real love make you alredy free.I know that.
So Bob Dylan's point of view is very close to Tolstoy's - Tolstoy actually didn't believe in human - he thought that man needs compassion, love, family and religion... ok sorry for my english. good bye
+Eugene Green Tolstoy was right
laburgy hmm.. i think he was right and wrong at the same time...
Only Bob Dylan would give something this good away.
Thanks 😊
ME ENCANTA ESTE TEMA. EN REALIDAD BOB ESTUVO SIEMPRE ENAMORADO DE SU PRIMERA ESPOSA. ES UN AMOR ETERNO , DE TODA LA VIDA.
One of the most honest songs ever written...
Effin right it is
