Lyrics:
Your breath is sweet
Your eyes are like two jewels in the sky
Your back is straight, your hair is smooth
On the pillow where you lie
But I don't sense affection
No gratitude or love
Your loyalty is not to me
But to the stars above
One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below
Your daddy, he's an outlaw
And a wanderer by trade
He'll teach you how to pick and choose
And how to throw the blade
He oversees his kingdom
So no stranger does intrude
His voice, it trembles as he calls out
For another plate of food
One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below
Your sister sees the future
Like your mama and yourself
You've never learned to read or write
There's no books upon your shelf
And your pleasure knows no limits
Your voice is like a meadowlark
But your heart is like an ocean
Mysterious and dark
One more cup of coffee for the road
One more cup of coffee 'fore I go
To the valley below

The first time I listened to this song, I was going to my hometown Kastamonu from İzmir and I was in a bus. The bus climbed so many bends and reached a hill's top. I saw this song on the playlist of the company and I started to listen to it. The sun was about to rise and I didn't know how much road we took till that point. The bus took the last bend and at that moment, I saw huge, plain fields, a valley I couldn't see where it ends while the sun was rising and started to make warm all the land. I couldn't take myself out of the song. While we were going down from the hill, I was in another world, we were in the valley and there was one or two tears in my eyes maybe because of happiness or because of some reason I still don't know but I felt like I understood something and I felt I was belonged to it. To all the people who can feel these things with love...

My older brother had pancreatic cancer and this was the very last song he heard. As we gathered around his bed we played this song and just like a movie moment when the song ended he took his last breath. Now when I hear this song I think of him and I’m learning to play this song with my flute. Thank you Mr Dylan
Prayers for you

This man is a poet as much as a musician.
He is actually more of a poet than a musician. He has made some of the worst recordings I have ever heard. For example, take his recording of You Belong to Me, in whhich he doesn't seem to know either the words or the chords.

Exactly, this is the biggest difference I find between older and todays music .. singers like him, Leonard Cohen , Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix , Nina Simone and many more .. you need to write a page to explain a sentence or a bar of their songs
@@ihabibrahim8902 The thing is there is still a lot of artist today that are doing it almost as good or just as good as all of the old classic songwriters The problem is it’s just not what’s popular anymore it doesn’t sell so it doesn’t make the radio and it doesn’t get playtime and nobody ever hears about them. That’s really the problem commercial music pop nobody wants to hear conscious shit nobody wants to hear deep shit anymore, because everybody’s just trying to drown out the world we’re in More and more as time goes on.. I will say one artist I have seen nowadays cross that barrier and do conscious music while still making it pop/popular so it gets radio time and is very popular worldwide is Kendrick Lamar! I suggest you check them out if you haven’t already but you probably have because like I just said he was able to cross that popular barrier in my opinion with mostly conscious music but see that’s just the price you have to pay to be popular you can’t make every song deep. You have to have some that are toe deep and have nothing more to them but then what’s at face value, just to dance to basically! A head nodder catchy and simple as can be!
I’d sustained a really bad brain injury circa 2009 and when during my neuro-rehab I somehow discovered this epic dark and transcendental song for the very first time and for some strange twist of fate it played inside my head and got me through a really tough time !! Thanks Bob 🙌🏴🆗

Howling, intense, shamanic like, vocals. Anyone who says Bob Dylan couldn't sing, send them here. Desire is an incredible album that no other artist in a million years will ever replicate.

I did think he wasn't a great singer but I discovered this song today and I've changed my mind.
What a classic
One of the greatest songs ever..mystical, unhinged, and surreal...
“One More Cup of Coffee”, is a beautiful duet between Dylan and Emmylou Harris that passionately expresses the narrator’s longing. Throughout the song, Scarlet Rivera’s mournful violin underscores the sadness.
Thats very true, a fantastic song, it can mean many things to the listener, Dylan is a genius
I was going to ask who the female singing with Dylan is but assuming, by your comment, it is Emmylou Harris.
LOL. Thank you for the name drops.

"But your heart is like an ocean, mysterious and dark." How can he give such simple words such overwhelming power?
The rain of words with power fell on fertile ground in the mind of a brilliant boy. He paid rapt attention, and became a brilliant man.

Anyone who thought Dylan couldn't sing in those days never tried to sing along with this track.
He was a different breed had great songs
He didn't care. He sang very well if he wanted. His message is in the words. Poet more than an entertainer.

My grandson started his Dylan music life early with this song that I happened to play as we were on a short road trip. He asked for it every time he road with me for years. I'd enjoy hearing the 2 of you discuss the song and its influence on you over time. Hello dear, it’s nice meeting you on here
@@CarlossantanamusicincAlways nice to meet another Dylan fan.
It took me awhile to appreciate the genius of Dylan. At first, I couldn't get over the way he sings. Once I started digging on the lyrics and getting a bigger picture of the quality of his music, it clicked. Dude is a legend.
Same here
Well put my friend. I felt the same but his lyrics are amazing.
Iam a massive Peter Doherty fan and he also has the magic in his pen
That's why I always prefer the lyrics. I am lyrical fan. I never had a single thought about Bob's voice because I never cared about it. I don't care if it's good or bad. Those lyrics are too good to make his voice unnoticeable.
As it should be. It can be an acquired taste. 100% I think it depends on what's going on in one's life that seals the deal, and appreciates him more so.
Check your attitude to what things are "supposed to be".
Masterpiece. A random mix that sometimes may even sound out of tune but it's so unique. His voice is just so unique and different.

I truly believe this might be one of the best songs of all time. I was turned on to it by Robert Plant saying it was his favorite song.
Listened to this, walking alone down a beach just around sunset, that golden hour. I had a decent buzz. As I walked, the surf washing over my feet every few step I took, I couldn't help but reflect and appreciate life. It was one of those moments in life of true peace and appreciation. Good medicine.
This is my favorite song, nothing compares to it. The vocals are incredible and the lyrics are so poetic, a story for the ages! An unrequited love song ❤

So, so, so, so good. Those mesmerising Emmylou Harris harmonies that seem to "wrap around" Dylan's best vocal performance since "Nashville Skyline"; the bass line; that tense Scarlet Rivera fiddle.
Yea the overall sound on this album is fantastic, the balancing of the male and female voices and instruments create something truly unique in his work.
You mean mesmerizing. It's the perfect word.

Desire is my favorite Bob Dylan album.
interesting.
It's not my favorite, but it's a really good album to get into Dylan especially. Outside of the electric trilogy, I'd say this is up there as a good showcase. And this is a good song that shows how he's a pretty damn good singer on a technical level. I always hate how people say that he can't sing, because they don't like his tone. Considering those are two way different things. Also, they've probably never heard Nashville Skyline if they think he has a bad tone.
Yeah great album. emmylou harris backing singing too incredible
It's my favorite too.

Listening to Bob Dylan makes you smarter. Really!
I love the Arabic essences to his vocals, and the mystique and depth of the musicality. Makes one thing that they are venturing into a deep unknown corner of the Amazon, and indeed an uncharted terrain of the mind. Brilliant, and significant to my beginnings.
I was just thinking along these same lines - I feel like if you couldn’t understand English you would think it was being sung in Arabic

This song will always remind me of the most beautiful days in the university of California State University L A I used to a listen to your songs while studying in 1975 such a long time. Thank you Mr. Dylan
i first listened to this song with my best friend at age 15, out lying in the school field looking at the setting sun through our toes...this song was played as we watched the red sun setting...it changed my view of the world and inspired me to write poetry till now at age 63...
I’d like to read a poem about you & your besty sitting in a field watching the sun go down while listening & feeling this song. ❤
That timeframe doesn’t fit this song, or the album, which was released in January 1976. Adding another year on since you posted this comment would date what you said to 1974. Work it out.
I’m not calling you a liar, but I am saying that if you’re now 64, your dates don’t match.

This is so immediately ancient. Dylan was here before. The violin is so haunting and holds the whole song together. Stunning.

So haunting...brilliant
A few years ago, I was in Tucsan with the military and took a drive south to the border. There's a tiny town with an ancient tiny church known as "The White Dove of the Desert". There's a restaurant there as well. Sitting in there having breakfast and coffee one morning, this song played on the jukebox, I was immediately transported into this song and found myself walking beside Bob Dillon.
This song is the cream on this masterpiece of an album. Pure poetic perfection with a peerless production.
Such an amazing song! The White Stripes covered this several years later & did a hell of a job, but there's just no comparison to the original emotion & soul of Dylan. He puts so much heart into his music & lyrics. I remember my Mother had the Desire album on record, we used to listen when I was little. She was fortunate enough to see Bob in concert when she was 16. She said the audience threw roses at the stage. I wish I could've seen him too. I thank my Mom for making me a fan by introducing me to his music!
People should avoid Dylan songs. There's a bad vibe in messing with his work.
Brilliant song, outstanding accompaniment.
Pure love and gratitude from Bangladesh.
There are songs which when we hear them they recall special period of our lives. The very first time that I had a chance to listen to this song was the beginning of quarantine and I got back to my hometown, this little place surrounded by mountains. I will always cherish these moments there sitting in our yard, at the beginning of spring, trees blossomed, sun shines, with the harmony of breathtaking view of mountains around, reading my favorite books and listening this song and few others that also become my favorite since then. Therefore, I will recall these 4 months of my life as a period of peace. Lastly I wanna quote from a movie that I love
"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it."
