    Bought this rifle in 6.5cm and have since changed the scope to the vortex viper HST 6x24x50 , vortex tactical scope mounts and a single piece 20 moa base. Replaced the trigger spring for the target spring and have it set at 1.9 lbs.
    I've shot out to 1,014 yrds with it so far. My best group was 4.5".
    Great rifle in my opinion
    Even with the basic store bought setup, I shot out to 775 yrds without issue.

    I have this savage package in
    7MM08 . The one I can say is the break in time was considerably longer than my Howa 1500 chambered in 243 Winchester. I was getting worried , but as soon it broke in it's a tack driver with handloads and really light weight.

    Bought one in 7mm-08. :)
    Best money I've spent. Did not take much to sight it in. Fired two shots this hunting season, and out two deer in the freezer.

      Sunny441 I too have the Savage 11 in 7mm-08 and wondered what factory load you were going with? I've not found a factory load that it seems to like and I've tried quite a few.

    I recently bought this rifle in 6.5CM and i can say after sighting it in, i was shooting .25-.5” groups down range with no issues. Recoil is a walk in the park and even getting a sight picture in the Nikon BDC scope is actually extremely easy and very quick

    From your review last year, I decided to purchased a Savage II .308 Trophy Hunter XP package. After shooting the rifle, I decided to take it out in my first hunt as oppose to my Rem 700 BDL 30-06. I'm glad I did. Took down a white tail at 287 yards. Thanks for a great review.

    I just purchased this at gander mountain liquidation sale. Cost me $367.99 lol regular price $567.00. $567.00 is not cheap (entry) I have it in 7mm rem mag this packs a punch not for the weak. This is a great rifle only complaint (2) my scope from factory was set label wrong the UP AND DOWN WHERE WRONG PLACES. TOOK A WHILE TO SIGHT. AND YES THE RINGS ARE CHEAP. I REPLACED WITH WEAVER 1" MED STEELE RINGS W/ WINDAGE $37.00 I SHOOT 3/4 IN GROUPS at 175 yards give or take.

    I bought Model 11 with a left hand bolt from Academy for $299 a year or two ago. My biggest complaint is that the scope is so far forward that I could not get a proper sight picture. I purchased some different ring bases that allowed me to slide the Nikon back just a bit farther to help with my sight picture. Even at that, my natural eye relief is over 6 inches. My next option is to find a one piece ring base that will allow me to mount my scope closer for a better eye relief or take a saw to by butt stock. As far as accuracy, this dude is spot on zero at 100 yds. I will also add that it favors the Federal Premium 6.5mm Creedmoor 140-Grain Nontypical Rifle Ammunition, but shoots very well with Hornady.

    I bought a 11/111 international trophy hunter about 3 years ago in 7mm rem mag. Essentially the same gun but with a weaver 3x9x40 bdc scope. I have had no issues with slipping rings maybe due to having to loosen the rings to adjust eye relief on the scope. Very accurate although I find it somewhat light for caliber. Recoil is manageable off the bench. This is the second savage arms rifle I've owned the first was a 93r17 btvs and it was a sweet shooting gun. I've tried and shot many other rifles but have yet to find one with a factory trigger as smooth as the accu-trigger in a comparable priced rifle.

    I own this rifle and without a doubt worth the money, the nikon scope is clear even cranked to 9x 1.5" groups @ 100yd with 7$ a box ammo. Cant wait to run some 62g match king. The action is smooth though not as smooth as the 800-1000$ tikas but still awesome. I love this rifle and am actually taking it back to the range in the morning.

    I am in love with Savage rifles. My dad gave me one (.30-06) when I turned 18. It was a 110L model. It was a great and always accurate rifle until I had to sell it last year (I will turn 48 in March). And yes, my dad bought it used. My next rifle will be a Savage 111 300 Win Mag without a doubt. Looking forward to enjoying all the new technology.

    I have this in 308. I really like the rifle. It feels good. Only issue is that it took me a month to set in the scope. I thought my scope was loose. Ended up just being barrel overheating. After 3 shots she pulls up and right. Up to 6" off center at 100 meters. It was explained to me by a friend that this is a hunting rifle. Not a range or plinking rifle. It is light so that you can carry it long distances. And as for overheating, if you have not dropped your target after your 2nd shot then you should rather take up needle point.

    I bought the 30-06 version of the savage 11/111 and I think it is a great gun! Its accurate and light to carry around for hunting. But I do agree that savage did cut corners with the scope rings and I found it out the hard way while hunting. All in all its a great gun and if you were to by it get new SCOPE RINGS.

    I have had this rifle for 4 years. Honestly haven’t put too many rounds through it, mainly because I haven’t been able to find a solid range past 300m. I will say this, great package. Accutrigger is great. Not the biggest fan of the stock, feels “loose” if that makes sense. Anyways, I’d be crazy to not keep this rifle. I plan on adding some new glass and a bipod

    I just purchased my Savage 11/111 THRP in 6.5 creedmoor. I have not shot it yet. I will do so in the next week. I have not shot a bolt action since the M40 back in 00-04 during my time in the corp. This action is smooth, the trigger feels great, and I am excited about seeing what I can do with this round. I bought the Savage 11/111 FCNS .243 Win. in 2010. Mounted a Leupold VX-II scope on it with Leupold rings and a Leupold adjustable base. The adjustable base didn't work out so well. After it sat in my safe for a long while I changed to an EGW base and got some 90 grain Boat-Tails and what a difference. Where I once considered trading it in, now you couldn't pry it away from me. Except now I see this Hornady Custom Lite 87 grain with a polymer tip boat tail bullet and I may have to give that a try just for grins. Feel free to call it an entry-level rifle if you want, but I don't need a $2000 rifle.

    I have one of those in a 300 short mag exact same setup and believe it or not I've shot a mile and over a mile with that gun the longest shot we've taken with it was right around 1870 so they're awesome rifles and I've had people that custom build guns shoot with me before and they say those Savages are something else for a ride out of the box gun. I know there's people out there that say cheap rifles won't shoot a mile but I like to take everything to extreme just to prove them wrong it's not like I would suggest shooting things at a mile but if you have to they will do it if you know what you're doing and I think Savage knocked it out of the ballpark with their rifles they do a really good job

    picked one up yesterday in 25-06. Definitely take off scope, rings, and bases for proper torque. My ring screws were loose. I'm going to ditch the rings and bases for a DNZ mount. After tightening screws it shot less than a half inch at 50 yards. That's with Hornandy 117 grain Whitetail budget ammo, can't complain about that.

    Got the stainless version in 7mm-08. Was very unhappy until I figured out that the rings were loose. Tighten and Locktite your glass. Clean everything before you shoot the first time and this gun is a tack driver out of the box. Will get a few flyers with cheap ammo. stick with a quality round (Hornady SST) or a custom hand load and you have a -MOA rifle out to 300yd.

    Just bought this in 223, for midrange to beginning long range target shooting. can't wait for it to arrive. according to some guys in my group, it's capable of .75 MOA right out of the box. a guy upgraded the stock and does .5 MOA with it. .75 MOA is great enough for me! If they're true, I'd give it a 10 for its class. it's not an entry level rifle, it's a step up. the axis is entry level.

    I think its silly to actually consider this a entry level gun as it is a step above. Entry lever would be guns like the axis, ruger American, rem 770/783 etc... which other than the axis and rem 770 are nearly all savage copies in some way. They copy the best.
    probably rem 700 snobs. spend 1000s on a rem to make it shoot or buy a savage and it just shoots out the box. Im curious what scoped combo offered would be a rated 10 by their standards.

    • @brentyoung7356
      @brentyoung7356 9 років тому +1

      monsterman27 One would be better to buy this rifle as a starter rifle. Many of the starter rifles have a stock that is so flimsy you can see the stock bow down when you wrap the sling around your hand. So you end up buying a new stock. The cheap scopes on the starter models will be outgrown in a year or so. The first rifle I bought was a Winchester model 70. I put a Weaver 4x fixed power scope on it. I still have the rifle over 35 years later with the Weaver scope. I upgraded the scope a couple months ago. Up to a certain point you get what you pay for. Not many people are still going to have the rifles you mentioned 35 years down the road. One might keep the Trophy Hunter for 35 years or more.

      +Brent Young I bought this gun in a 7mm Rem mag. This is my 4th rifle in 30 yrs. of hunting. I think the only reason it gets called entry level is because of the price point. This is a quality rifle AND scope! IMO, this rifle is the best value to quality rifle on the market.

      the ruger americian is actually a better gun though. have both of them in the same caliber. The ruger cycles smoother and less noise (better when actually hunting) The ruger stock is more robust. I traded my savage axis in 243 for the ruger....I will never regreat that trade as i got about $500 in ammo on the deal too lol. 2 boxes of 22-250 7 boxes of blind side 12 ga shot shells...3-4 boxes of rem 22-250 :D 2 .75 boxes of nitro stell rem. and a shit load of 20 ga that the dude no longer needed as he sold his 20 ga's now that i think about it i prob got more than 800 in ammo. I did give him my 44 rounds of 243 though. I bought those back 3 days later when he sold the 243 for $15 bucks lol. He is a kid and has no clue how to make money wheeling and dealing...Hes making enough to buy a case of beer for a friday night. I wont even trade unless i make double of what i got if for. I buy ammo for 10 i sell for 20 or more...I buy it for 3 I sell it for 15...gun shows are awesome when ya go in late sunday lol. Got my weatheby pa-08 for 150 vs the 300 plus they are selling for. Sold it for 280. Then bought another at another gun show for 180 and sold it for 220 AND a beer box of ammo lol. most weeks i make more wheeling and dealing with guns and ammothan i do with my job lol.

      Are you going to be varmint hunting? .243 probably better. 270 does have a sharper recoil. Either way you cannot go wrong.

    I have had mine for about ten years in 270 win and I’m very attached to it I’ve killed about 7 deer with it and one of of them I killed in one shot at 360 yards I was 13 years old at the time it’s been a great gun accu trigger is great and nice too look at. Love love I would 8.5/10 is a good rating for this rifle

    Have this in 243. $549.99 at Walmart. $570 at Sportsman's Warehouse. So much better than Axis II, Ruger American, and Mossberg Patriot. Heavy duty stock compared to those. Shoots equal to Weatherby S2. More consistent than the cheaper ones.

    I use the Savage 11 Trophy Hunter Package in .243. This rifle works great in the field to drop hogs and deer with the Full Boar 80 grain Hornady GMX round. As with all .243 bullets, shot placement is key, but that should be a rule for any round sent off by any shooter. The barrel heats up fast so make sure to give it a sec between shots while sighting in or the POI will crawl up the page as you try to adjust. This is a hunting barrel issue, not a savage 11 issue.
    The optics that come with the rifle are great for hunting game out to around 400 yards. Use the spoton resource provided by Nikon to print a customized reticle POI sheet and tape it to the inside of your stock spoton.nikonsportoptics.com/spoton/spoton.html#Index:4. The stock scope rings may slip for a few folks, either change scope rings or drop blue Loctite in there, no big deal.
    We've all shot rifles that had sticky, slack or stubborn triggers...the folks at savage felt our pain and gave us the Accutrigger. The trigger breaks on command and refuses to create a flinch habit due to heavy pull or hard springs. Like others have mentioned, stick with quality projectiles and good loads and the rifle will do what you want it to.

    I am considering buying one in .204R This will be my first varmint caliber rifle. I have no concerns about the accuracy of the rifle itself. I had a Savage 92 in 22 Mag right after the company emerged from bankruptcy and the rifle was deadly accurate and .22Mag isn't exactly known as being the most accurate round. My concern is will the scope be a limiting factor and need to be replaced? Do not most guys running varmint rigs run very high power scopes? I mean you have to remember we're talking about a caliber that can reach out to 300 yards and touch a groundhog which looks tiny at that distance. Is a 3-9X going to cut it at that type of distance? I sort of need to know because I really have to budget this purchase and money is tight.

    I bought this rifle in 300 mag and realized how cheap the stock and scope was. The gun is so light and the stock is hollow and absorbs very little recoil. I put about 12 round through it and popped the scope. I put leupold vx 1 on it and it shot well until the recoil pad broke off the plastic mounts and cracked the butt of the stock. I ordered a wood stock from boyds and i'm going to see if I can finally get this rifle going.

    • @brentyoung7356
      @brentyoung7356 9 років тому +1

      Jason Rhodes The cheapo rings popped the scope. You need steel rings for a 300 mag. You should have noticed movement in the aluminum rings right off the bat. I have a Nikon on my shotgun. I am sure you are aware of the recoil of a 12ga slug. With steel rings the Nikon is good to go. I can do without the BDC but that is a matter of preference, not durability. I ran a BSA 4x fixed power scope on my shotgun with steel rings for several years before I got the Nikon.

      Brent Young Thanks for the tip I picked up some leupold rings the other day. The wood stock I order cracked right behind the safety on the second shot. Maybe this gun is just bad luck.

      nope true story. warped the rings and scope mounts too but they were aluminum. I put a second wood stock on and bedded it a lot better I think. Steel rings and mounts and lapped the rings. shoots great now

    My opinion isn't a entry level rifle. I mean you can put a good to great scope on it with a sniper/tactical stock on it and be just like a sniper. I have the lefty 308 it's amazing.

    • @KingOfBattle119
      @KingOfBattle119 8 років тому

      +Mitchell Stivers If you're going for sniper or tactical application, I would suggest getting a heavier barrel. The barrel on the Model 11 is light to allow for long hikes/easy shouldering for hunting. Downside to this is you'll lose accuracy after a few shots as the barrel warms up. Not a problem when hunting, but in a tactical situation it's not optimal.
