After 40 years of waiting, they still haven't released this. In a world where you can listen, read, watch and buy anything almost instantly, there is something beautiful about that. When I need to hear it, I'll know where it is. Thank you for posting. And to all the people listening, we are sharing something rare and beautiful. Doesn't happen often these days x
a beautiful and sad song...since yesterday I thought that my true love and I would break up after eleven years of affair.I listened to this song endlessly for 8 months and he listened to it as well. Then we realized we wished we had one of his/her children and decided to be together again...Thanks to a strong song, we remembered love.A little story, a little nothing for most...but for me it is very important....A special , true song...
God almighty. Peter Gabriel, Roy Harper, Kate Bush ..... this is, this is ... I can't say what this is. The drop leaf table! Mundanity, profundity ... do you see what I'm getting at? Oh, life.
Very normal. Had one. Now want to start singing 🎤 wow 😲 I thought she was going to say I was feeling so sad. Am looking for musicians to & photographers to record with. Beautiful, unknown song.
I had never heard, nor was even aware of this song before...I had only heard them sing together on "Don't Give Up." It's like they were born to sing together. My cousin just turned me on to this as a Christmas gift. Pretty cool gift.
this might be one of her greatest vocals, and one of his too. what an incredible recording. does anyone know why they would not want it released? Was it just too good for this mediocre world?
Beautiful performance from two great artists. When Peter Gabriel lets rip with his voice it's like the sound a great choir emerging from his mouth. Powerful and soulful.
I have never heard this beautiful, delicate, invocation of loss, longing and loneliness before but now I have I will cherish it. This vignette evokes memories of those times I have walked away sad and lost and on my own but knowing that the past needs to be just where it is. It is a very human experience captured so well and performed by two of my generations outstanding performers. I guess you might be able to tell I am enormously impressed.
My best mate in school introduced me to Peter Gabriel and Roy Harper when I was 13, 40 years ago. The two of them were our favourites so to hear Gabriel and Kate cover one of Roys songs is literally, music to my ears.
This is such a beautiful duet by two of my favourite singers. And the superb set, which is really clever in its quotidian presentation, just adds to the perfection.
This is so beautiful. I don't understand why they never released it? It's one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard, I know it's a cover but it's a really great one. I get goosebumps. This performance is so amazing too, they're both great at getting into character. This song and performance really moves me. Maybe one day they will release it...
Apparently, another comment explains that they couldn't figure out what to do for the B-Side. So they abandoned the idea. I didn't look into it, so I don't know personally.
When I hear Simon & Garfunkel my mind goes about 43 years back in time when I spent 1 week with Katja , a German girl . She liked them very much. This week changed my live although I never saw her again. But I remember that week like it was last week.
A truly beautiful song - I recently bought 'Flat baroque' for the original, but this version is totally perfect and, though it's 20 seconds shorter, it seems to be less rushed. Not an easy song to listen to without blubbing.
Written and performed by Roy Harper (1971) and hears Peter and Kate version, the use of metaphors and analogy's are so apparent/stark. To end this is a poetic tragedy, within evocative vocals and music...tears come!
Not many Roy Harper covers out there, and rightly so because they're usually perfect as is...This however is just lovely, like I am an emotional mess now having listened...Glad there are no sharp objects in the room with me. Jesus, this is just lovely. Thank you for sharing it.
Roy, Peter and Kate 'together': unsurpassable. I saw this on the telly in 1979! Miracles like this were the order of the day back then...but never thought I'd hear it again, so thank you thank you for posting. I can die happy now.
Just beautiful. Every time I see this it brings me to tears! Kate and Peter really deliver an exceptional performance of this haunting song. Love YOU Kate
I've known the Roy Harper original from Flat Baroque and Berserk since the early 70s. Friends and I, partaking of Eastern exotic spices, referred to it as the 'Tibetan Tea-Tray Song'.
Thanks very much. I used to have it at one time and played it to death. Im very familiar with Song to The Siren and love it still. Im listening again to Peter and Kate and so glad to have caught it on TV the other night or else I may never have known of it. Its a real treasure.
Nice to see 2 amazing singer songwriters doing this beautiful duet together we need more musicians like this now, not the rubbish that exists in the charts now.
Thank you SO much for sharing this! (I only have a very old and faulty VHS recording of it) I've never understood why neither of them ever released this… Exquisite!
She was a fan of early Genesis up to "Wind & Wuthering," (1976) right before her own big hit "Wuthering Heights" was released in 1978, similar to that same very British atmosphere that early Genesis specialized in (with the exception of the deliberately set in NYC "Lamb Lies Down" concept album). Their meeting was probably set up by the producer of this show since Bush recorded backing vocals on "Games Without Frontiers" & "No Self Control" on the 3rd Gabriel album (melted face) right after.
This is so true, I'm a singer and love vocalists from all genres etc, I love me some Kurt Elling and such, yet Gabriel's voice is the most interesting there is, there is nothing like it, he's somewhat of the counterpart of Björk... both have very unique voices... Of course Kate is herself way way up there but yes Gabriel's vocal chords are like no others
@@HisEntropicHighness Kate Bush is my all time favourite performer, but I have to agree that the performance by Elizabeth Fraser is another level. I love it when a cover is a really different take on the original. Pretty much all of the This Mortal Coil covers are so unique, and dare I say, better than the originals 🙊
The emotion in, « But I wish that I had & I’m feeling so sad that I never had one of your children » But The most beautiful line is, « Sat here with ourselves in between us » WONDERFUL
They had collaborated a couple of times before this: The songs No Self Control and Games Without Frontiers on Peter's second (or was it third?) solo album and he an Steve Harley performed with and at the final night of Kate's 1979 UK tour which was a fund raiser for the family of a mutual friend and tour crew member who died in an freak accident on the first night of said tour.
These two teaming up is a bit like watching all the planets come into alignment. Everyone sort of goes, "Oh yeah, now it all makes sense".
Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush.....their voices are both so special and unique.....
Every time Kate first sings here... goosebumps and tears... perfection
yup tears
Yeah I remember downloading the audio of this years ago and being at work at my desk, and playing it and tears came and I was like, "Oh shit."
a beautiful and sad song...since yesterday I thought that my true love and I would break up after eleven years of affair.I listened to this song endlessly for 8 months and he listened to it as well. Then we realized we wished we had one of his/her children and decided to be together again...Thanks to a strong song, we remembered love.A little story, a little nothing for most...but for me it is very important....A special , true song...
❤wow
We loved them such a long time ago, and we still do.
God almighty. Peter Gabriel, Roy Harper, Kate Bush ..... this is, this is ... I can't say what this is.

Oh, life.
I know, Flo Jo. I know.
I think so though I'm not sure .... but it doesn't matter because you put it so well.
Very normal. Had one. Now want to start singing 🎤 wow 😲 I thought she was going to say I was feeling so sad. Am looking for musicians to & photographers to record with. Beautiful, unknown song.
You name it.
@@creativeexpression3376 It's by Roy Harper, and is certainly not 'Unknown'. What's unknown is why Peter Gabriel chose Kate Bush. She ruins it.
I had never heard, nor was even aware of this song before...I had only heard them sing together on "Don't Give Up." It's like they were born to sing together. My cousin just turned me on to this as a Christmas gift. Pretty cool gift.
Well don't give up. Have a listen to the Roy Harper original.
@@stavrospapadimitriou7631 I LOVE that Roy Harper album so much (Flat Baroque and Berserk)
She's only 21 here. Just unbelievable
this might be one of her greatest vocals, and one of his too. what an incredible recording. does anyone know why they would not want it released? Was it just too good for this mediocre world?
They couldn't decide on a B-side so.....they abandoned the idea.
This is so priceless
The underlying sexual message in this video is thrilling.
It's actually roy harpers song from flat boroque and berserk written in the 1970s
It's a Roy Harper song, check him out seriously one of the greats of ALL time in my opinion 🔥🙌👏
Beautiful performance from two great artists. When Peter Gabriel lets rip with his voice it's like the sound a great choir emerging from his mouth. Powerful and soulful.
This performance, and All Flowers In Time, are my eternal musical touchstones
Would love to hear them perform this duet again today given how their respective voices have aged in the subsequent decades.
They both are beautiful as is this song.
A perfect combination. Probably the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
will never get 2 unique voices together like this again

This is a masterpiece that Roy Harper performed many years ago!
Fantastic version. I always felt the song was perfect for a duet, and they knock it out of the park.
Two of the best songwriters the world has ever seen.
and this song is written by a third ----Roy Harper is also incredible
My draw drops when these planets sings. Thank you, for all the moments.

This is just sublime. Both very unique and talented singers!
And Peter Gabriel was pretty attractive.
The Progfather and The Magical Spell Weaver in duet.
Two brilliant British artists for sure.☺️🙂😊
One of Roy's finest songs. Breaks me every time.
You could follow up with old cricketer to really clean up your tear ducts
I am just so thankful this music exists on earth right now!

Love this duet with two amazing Artists ❣️🙏
Cosmic Forces sometimes like Planets aline.
Perfect Voices in unison.
Beautiful Duet between two
Geniuses in there Muse.
This is amazing!! Peter and kate are both equally so good... This made me cry.
I could listen to this all day long.
She is enchanting.
Wow. Beautiful. I've never heard this before. Only singers of the highest quality could give this justice it deserves.
These two were meant for each other.
Beauty beyond words...
Incredible!!!! Should have been released as a single between them. Love how it has a bit of the old Genesis Mellotron sound in it. Magical song!!
Two of my favourite singers together heaven😊💕
Heartbreaingly sad, love all the versions of this song but this... this is so thought provoking and touching.
A truly beautiful song - I recently bought 'Flat baroque' for the original, but this version is totally perfect and, though it's 20 seconds shorter, it seems to be less rushed. Not an easy song to listen to without blubbing.
This Mortal Coil also has a breathtaking version of it.
Magic!
Peter and Kate forever!
Emotionally and vocally symbiotic - just perfect
Fuuuuuuuck me! Never ever knew this existed. Kate... no words, just tears, she was so special.
I love Kate Bush voice. Peter too. Wonderful song

1:43 Amazing vocals by Peter!!
Peter and Kate are both at PERFECTION here 💯👌
Argueably the two best voices ever !!
simply extraordinary! what a song and how beautiful they both look. Sigh.
Such a beautiful piece of art in the form of song. Delicate and touching performance. So very lovely... thanks for sharing.

Just beautiful. Every time I see this it brings me to tears! Kate and Peter really deliver an exceptional performance of this haunting song. Love YOU Kate
a Roy Harper Song? wow!
Why have I never heard this befire??? Astounding.
Absolutely one of my favorite performances. Perfectly expressed the sadness of my first marriage... I mean, exactly

Omg this was so beautiful!!! 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 But, indeed, it was so sad despite being a great performance by both Kate Bush and Peter Gabriel...
Deux magnifique artiste et une très belle reprise qui nous touche en plein coeur !
Even now, it is so up-to date. And the voices very genuine.
still makes me tear up
Beautiful
Their performance of this song is celestial.
Tis an agony so sweet I can not bare to live without. Thank you for sharing. Really.

Stunning!

1) Kate's voice is so nice! I adore her so much!!!
2) OMFGBBQ, Gabriel unshaved!!! X'D
Lol
So beautiful i don't know what else to say about it just so beautiful
Amazing!
I remember this one also performed by Elizabeth Fraser. Absolutely worth checking out.
Yeah, absolutly!...

So beautiful... "Sat here with ourselves in-between us"
Magnifique...
Que coisa mais linda, não conhecia essa preciosidade. Kate sempre diva...
What a fantastic cover of a great song.
This is such an emotional, beautiful song, love it
FFS. just discovered this. How good is this? Sublime!!
so amazing it makes you want to cry...
The emotion in, « But I wish that I had & I’m feeling so sad that I never had one of your children » But The most beautiful line is, « Sat here with ourselves in between us »
WONDERFUL
Awesome!
I have loved the Roy Harper version forever, but I didnt know this existed.. Wow it is Gorgeous!!
I n this moment i feel just like this videoclip.
If she ever had one of his children. What a beautiful musical couple❤❤
Together, they were MAGIC !!!
Sublime.
absolutely, stunningly, beautiful!
Perfect.
Great vocals from both, and great chemistry too, which would come in handy for "Don't Give Up" a number of years later. ;-)
Both gorgeous 🧡🧡
