It really hits now as it brings back memories of lost loves from years ago. Youth is wasted on the young. "I loved you a long time ago, you know Where the wind's own Forget-me-nots blow But I just couldn't let myself go Not knowing what on earth there was to know".
I have had a one woman Roy Harper festival in my house in Cheshire this weekend .lol.Had a Daevid Allen & Gong fest during the summer solstice last week 🌞
I think you've been hit by spell check but Flat, Baroque and Berserk was a classic album! I still listen to it from time to time...I was flat broke then too...
That performance is so stripped down and so absolutely beautiful as a result. This is the only song I've ever cried to and it affects me every time that I sit and listen intently to it. My eyes are watering now as I write this. Totally sublime lyricism. Words crafted to absolute perfection. This simple, heartfelt performance displays them so perfectly.
Roy's rhythmic style is so hard to replicate. Still don't know how he does it. I didn't appreciate this song enough when I was a young Harper fan, even though Flat Baroque was my favourite album. Just didn't understand what he was saying back then. Suppose you don't reflect on missed opportunities much when you're 15 :).
There are very few songs which compel me to lift up the needle and play them again, over and over. This is one of them. I love his comment on this version - "This is a song about a split second". A moment in time. May we all relive that moment in perpetuity.
I'm equally besotted with this song. I've always loved the record but there is something magical about this performance and, yes, I do play it quite frequently...
The ex-boyfriend that introduced me to this song and to Roy Harper, whom I knew since we were 5 years old, was recently found dead in his home, and this song pops up to remind me of happy sunny days many years ago, and how we shall not meet again. Love you Min xxx
@@NickBloomfield the sad meaning now takes over ...and the happy days are gone You dont think so much about the meaning of songs when youre young and caught up in a romance. When you are old and lonely the resonance changes. RoyHarpers genius was that he knew that as a young man too
Believe that you will meet again. Every time I hear the album, The James Gang Rides Again, I'm reminded of one woman and one idyllic summer in my youth in the early '70's. I'll carry that to my grave. Music and memories and love do not die, they live on.
Is there a more beautiful song ? What an era....Roy...Pink Floyd....and then it all faded with punk and the 80s ( worst decade for music ever....Not one decent band..

It is beautifully sad...
I'll never get over how beautiful this song is.
Couldn't agree more.
yes, you are correct!
Carry that for life.
This inspired me to pick up my acoustic guitar this morning. Such beauty and simplicity in melody bolstered by tremendous poetic lyrics. Awesome.
Spent a lifetime trying to write a song like that. Sadly realise I can’t. He’s one of a kind.
Sat here with ourselves in between us…. Love Roy Harper… genius…
Absolutely.
One of Roy's most beautiful songs
It certainly is the one for me.

It is a great song! This performance, in particular...
Yes I think the best performance of this masterpiece of his I've ever heard (and I used to follow him and heard it live a good number of times).
Absolutely!

One of the best songs ever made, so beautyful!
Totally agree.
Possibly the best ever.

Flat, Baroque and Berserk is my favourite Roy Harper album and this my favourite song. He certainly had some magic.
So much influence here. You can hear Ian Anderson carrying his torch into prog rocks future.
It is so good.

Even sad songs can sometimes have happy associations...

He certainly played them well.
Absolutely Beautiful. On parr with Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.

Better than Hallelujah by far - more nuanced in my view.

Brilliant. Thanks for posting.
I was just so happy to find it!
It's a toss up for me, between, this song, South Africa, and Commune.
Really splendid find, mate.
Thanks! For me this is far and away his best but then we are all different - thank goodness.
I play this with only two chords Cmaj 7 and Fmaj7 and it works so well....its beautifully simple.
Sounds interesting I may give it a try.
ILEA - Inner London Education Authority. 👍
Correct.
🥲
It is so good.

It's definitely one of the most beautiful songs ever...
I have to disagree with you there lol.
Lmao because punk only just became a thing in the 80s, never existed before that huh
Brilliant song, although Peter Gabriel/Kate Bush version is amazing
Thanks for uploading this
I love it too!
