- I have one of these portable jumpers for every car that I have, and I have 2 in the vehicles with the large engines.Having several jumpers, it is much more economical to repair instead of replace.When the jumper is showing that the battery has a full charge, but then you go to jump the car, and the starter barely moves and the jumper is dead immediately afterwards, that is a good sign that you need to replace the battery. This video goes over replacing the battery.But it wouldn't take that much modification or imagination to replace the charging AC adapter using this video either.The next most common thing to go bad in these jumpers is the AC adapter.One of the signs that the AC adapter is bad is:- the battery doesn't charge.- the charging light doesn't come on- the charging light is intermittent like there is a short.Of course there could be a faulty battery mimicking those problems too, so it's pretty easy to check once you open it up. Just disconnect the AC/DC 12V adapter and see if it supplies 12V.I've never had to buy an extra AC/DC adapter, because like every good nerd, I have a box full of wall warts that go to lots of other things that have long since failed, but their adapters didn't, and those could come in handy some day!These jumpers are very handy, and they are pretty easy to keep going, with just some cheap fixes.

I have one too, and there handy to have around. Some word of advice, watch how you charge these sealed lead acid batteries or (AGM). I never used the internal ac adapter, those wall adapters have no voltage regulation, so if you go off and leave the jump starter unattended the surface voltage can go as high as 17 volts on the battery. If this high of voltage is present too long on a AGM cell it can permanently damage the plates, it gets the lead plates hot and cooks the lead dioxide off. I charge mine with a standard float charger. These AGM's have a typical cycle life of about 400 to 500 cycles so long as you dont deep discharge them you will get a long service life.
I think that’s what I did to mine. I pumped all my tires to 50 psi for the winter and now the compressor only worked for 10-15 seconds and then turns off. Not sure if it’s the battery or I wore something out of the compressor. How would I know which is which. The compressor still works just turns off. Thanks.
Thanks man i just bought one of these exact models and everything works fine from charging my phone to putting air in my tires but whenever i try to help someone with a jumpstart it just says that it has a ded battery so i will be ordering a new battery first thing in the morning and thanks for the great video man.
Those agm batteries can be easily reconditioned.

Thumbs👍friend....i have the everstart maxx 1200A ....the air compressor and usb stopped working for some reason....the compressor turns on and got some air coming out of it, but not enough to inflate anything. Any ideas ? TNX!
Mine just stopped working. We had it for a couple of year and kept it charged. I tried to use the "AC" to use a small fan. There was a quick turn of the blades then nothing! I took out the battery and checked it with a tester and it was good. I looked at the circuit boards and did not find anything burned or shorted out. I put it back together, and nothing but a loud beep every few seconds.

Wow thanks for making this video. I wonder why they didn't use a lithium battery for these things. Lead acid goes bad if you just let it sit for a long time.
This power pack can output 1000 amps, a normal lion battery maybe 5 amps before you run into problems. There are lithium batteries that can handle high amps but they dont do good in the cold and they also cost $$$$$. I was tempted to put lifepo4 cells in which can output around 200 amps but it would be around $300 for the cheapest ones
Cost! was the number one reason lithium was not installed. It is very doubtful this battery station could jump start a car battery that had some cells that had problems.
These small AGM batteries have a short circuit discharge of about 200 to 250 amps but this is a very short duration. The good part about these AGM's is they have a better cycle life vs flooded 12v batteries. At 50% depth of discharge 650 cycles, I can imagine its used for jump starting dead car batteries all the time that cycle life would be reduced.
what is the reference of the 🔋 battery to change it, mine is damaged, it no longer holds the charge in the battery
I upgraded one to lithium batteries. Uses a drone Lipo array inside. Essentially it uses the BMS to conttol the charging of 4x3 lithium 18560 cells. These cells can produce 60A each so 12v at a solid 240A which is plenty to turn the starter The start circuit fuse is 60A so ridiculous amps are not required❤,
Mine just tried to turn on the pump and left it going all night! I set the pressure to 0 and it continously beeps.

That’s a good question.
I would have to look at the circuit and see what they used to cause the beeping.
I imagine it’s probably a small black round piezo beeper on the circuit board.
I think the easiest thing to do would probably be to squirt some hot glue into the hole for the piezo beeper but I’m not sure.
The only thing that would worry me about silencing a piezo element that way is if having it constantly suppressed would change the resistance and therefore perhaps burn out the circuit that powers it.
I’m not sure it might be inconsequential I’ve never measured it so I just don’t know.
Another option might be to desolder the piezo element. that might turn out fine, but again I’m not sure because it’s putting an open circuit where there was previously a circuit element but it might be fine
and then the other thing you could do would be to measure the resistance of the piezo element after you desolder it and then just stick a resistor there that has the approximate resistance and a sufficient watt rating.
Next time I open one up I’ll see what I can do about silencing the annoying beep and I’ll make a video.
That’s actually going to be pretty soon because there’s another old jumper that I have that I need to replace the battery.

🔴I have a Dewalt 1600amp jump starter, air compressor power station (dxaeps14). On my third time using the air compressor its not working. I would set the psi and press ‘air’ button for it to start, I would hear a long beep that last for about 4 seconds then the number 159.2 displayed on the screen but the compressor never turns on. i took it apart and connect the compressor directly to the battery and it works, so i know its not the compressor. what is your suggestion
Wow that sounds lame, but it sounds like the digital controller board got messed up. I wonder if it’s the pressure sensor maybe has a loose wire. Although it might be mounted right on the board, I don’t know.
If it were mine, and I couldn’t figure anything out with the sensor, I would MacGyver in a switch to just run the compressor, a mechanical timer switch would probably be best so it has an automatic turn off after a certain amount of time.
It’s not ideal but when you can’t swap or replace circuit boards, sometimes it’s the best one can do.
The other thing I do though is I also keep a separate inflator in each car so that if I have to inflate a tire, I don’t have to take power out of the jumper battery. Costco has a good one for $30 right now that can plug into AC or use the 12V DC plug.
What is the common issue comes in
I have that same model Cj1000DXT and the air compressor is not functioning well is always like up and down the speed of the piston and sometimes it dsnt start i have to like kiked and starts! I would like to change the air compresor unit have u ever change one of those? So i can get like a part number or something?

It could be the motor
Could be the power regulator to the motor
Could need oil
Although I think it’s usually the brushes that fail on the DC motors first.
I know some people replace brushes but I’ve never tried it. I mean if it was brushes and you could find some equivalent ones the fox would probably cost more in shipping than in parts.
I usually buy a 2nd inflator-only so I don’t have to use the one on the jumper unless I’m really in a pickle. They have one at Costco for $36 right now.

I found all the ones I’ve used on Amazon.
I looked at Batteries+ and they were way more expensive.
But also, matching the exact AH isn’t as important as the physical dimensions.
The AH rating just tells you how much total energy is in a fully charged battery, but since that changes over the life of a battery, that means the jumper has an automatic full-charge detection circuit (for 12V lead-acid batteries). So as long as it physically fits, it’s okay if it varies by several AH.

Can you upload a short video showing me exactly what you are talking about? There’s a few different meanings I get from your question.
My first guess would be that you’re built in AC/DC power adapter is broken but like I said I can’t quite tell from what is stated here what you mean, so if you’re able to make a short video showing me what you’re talking about and then comment on this with a link to that video I might be able to help more, not sure though.

I have one too that I've only used maybe 3x. Tried recently on a pretty dead battery and it couldn't jump start it but another running vehicle and cables worked. I'm pretty disappointed in this thing. Purchased it at Costco.
did you leave the battery sitting and not charge it at least once a month? You could try to recondition the battery with Noco 12v trickle charger.... .. If you left it unused for long periods... it probably sulfated away.. I have the model before this one... I think the first CAT model that costco carried. Still works but doesn't hold as much charge in the past... attempting to condition it the next few days with my 12v AMPEAK charger.... trickle mode,..... I might pick up the trickle charger Noco one...
I just picked up this exact model for free because the guy told me the battery was basically shot. When I switch to USB mode or ac the fault sign comes on and won't do anything. Also it drains voltage reaaaaaaaally fast just by having the led on. Would a new battery fix all these things? Would hate to waste money on a battery if the unit is messed up.
It would really seem to be the battery.
A way you could check to see if it was the battery would be to disconnect the battery you suspect of being bad,
be sure to mark the positive and negative connections with tape so you remember which side is which.
I would think that if you attach jumper cables to your regular car battery to those points that the portable jumper unit should believe that it has a good internal 12V battery.
Once a set of jumper cables connected to a car battery are connected to the power points inside the portable jumper unit then the only major differences that I can think of that could interfere with us using this method to test if the old battery was the problem are:
1. that the car battery would have more total Energy capacity (how long the battery lasts), and so the recharging circuit might do something incorrect but I really doubt it because it should just be checking voltage levels - maybe if the internal resistance on a car battery is significantly lower than you might get too much current draw when it tries to recharge but it’s hard to say, there are some internal fuses on the circuit board of the jumper unit and they could be for “charging current overdraw” I don’t know. I wouldn’t plug the portable car jumper into AC while you have jumpers connected to your car battery just in case. Because then you might have circuitboard fuse to replace also which is pretty annoying.
2. cold cranking amps.
The cold cranking amps might run you into trouble
if you try to jump a car with a regular car battery connected to the internal power of your portable car jumper it might fry part of the circuit but it’s difficult to tell, it depends on how the circuit is built that manages the current.
If there is a fancy circuit here it might have only been designed for up to the current that the smaller battery (The internal battery that came with the jumper unit) could provide therefore having current provided from a much larger much more capable battery could in theory fry a circuit, but It might just be copper wires there and not a circuit in which case there won’t be any problems.
anyway with those warnings out of the way.
And having a regular 12 V car battery connected to the internal power connections of the jumper with a set of jumper cables (or other good wires). That should allow you to run the air compressor and run the inverter run the USB, run the lights.
You should be able to run all these other things enough that if the problem was the old internal battery you should be able to see the difference so that you know that replacing the old battery would fix your problem.
Sorry if this is too long and wordy. It’s late and I’m a little tired so I’m getting a little long-winded and also trying to think of like every possible problem and trying to make this advice helpful in more general terms also.

Direct connect with the jumper cables should be good.
Be sure you disconnect the old battery completely though. Depending on what’s wrong with the old battery it could drain the car battery or put the voltage to low, there’s. Okay always
@@peterzum okay so I did the test.. battery removed, jumper cables connected to where battery usually connects and to a car battery. Compressor works, but the ac and USB functions still show the fault signal and just flash.. I'm at a loss
This sucks, I have one of these which I didn't really get a chance to use and just had in my truck for a long time... In which I think the cold here in Canada must've drained the battery after not using it for so long? Had it charging for 3 hours in the warmth with no luck, so I might let it sit without charging over night to see if it's able to charge :/. Otherwise I'm going to have to swap it out, unless you have an idea on what could be causing it
I know some jumpers, (I’m not sure about this exact model or not), do a few simple checks to decide whether or not they’re even going to try and charge it.
It’s the same thing that “smart“ chargers do or microcontroller or micro processor controlled chargers do, that are just about every battery charger that you find these days.
They will check for too low of a battery voltage or too low of an internal battery resistance or too high of an internal battery resistance and if it has any of those characteristics then it doesn’t even actually send the battery any current.
Most of the time I think the smart chargers are right, although I do have a stack of batteries that I’m going to try different methods to resurrect.
but I have gotten a few lead acid batteries to come back to life with an old battery charger that didn’t have a micro processor controller (the only place I can find those now is at Harbor Freight) that trickle charged it with one amp for about 36 hours.
And after that the battery was behaving good enough that I had a “smart” multi-chemistry type battery charger run it through 5 charge/discharge cycles.
Of course if you’re doing all that then you’ve already opened it up and pulled the battery out and so you’re halfway done anyway, and if you’re able to resurrect an old battery they usually only have about half of their total energy storage or less and they can’t push out as many amps as they could before so with the replacement battery being $20 or $30 I usually just replace the battery.
I have a stack of used batteries that have reduced storage that I want to use for a massive UPS.

I actually haven't opened it up, I found the exact battery you found kn this video which was $100, but didn't look thoroughly yet to find any cheaper alternatives. But I may look again if jumping it won't work.

I got a tesla and a litning now so i will add a lifepo4 battery in mine for the other stuff practical on my booster pack.
I'd put in a Lithium battery.
I have been thinking of upgrading my CAT jumper even before it crashes. If lifepo4 batts are no good then why do most battery packs now sport lion batteries and perform better than lead acid.
I imagine the ability to dump a lot of current all at once is a big reason they still use Lead-Acid.
Also cost is probably a big factor.
A Li-Ion “jumper” can charge your battery so your car can start, but doesn’t have the ability to start your car all on its own, which I guess you aren’t supposed to do? Maybe? I’m not sure I heard that from a mechanic once, but these CAT jumpers definitely have the ability to just start your car, and a Li jumper usually can’t.
Unless you are talking about a jumper that uses a LiFePO4 battery, in that case I don’t know, those batteries are pretty expensive so I would guess that their cost keeps them out of the mass-market.
As far as switching a LiFePO4 battery in for a PbH2SO4, if the cost is not an issue, then it’s just the charging circuit remains the only question.
I don’t know what type of charging circuit the CAT jumper uses, if it’s a simple enough charging circuit, it will work, but if it’s too “smart” then it could break your LiFePO4 battery.

I charged my device for like 7 hours. It wont turn on. Do you think its a dead battery?
That would be my guess, won’t hold a charge? Does it measure a voltage when it’s not plugged in? If it does then that sounds just like a dead battery. If it goes to 0 volts when power is disconnected, it could still be a dead battery but it could also be a disconnected battery.
@peterzum I did the same thing with mine. All day on the charger and nothing. It reads 3.8 volts by itself but when plugged in to charge it drops down to 2.49 volts. The fluctuates back and forth. Would that be my battery or the charger?

I’m not sure, it depends on how many sensors it has. If it’s loaded with sensors than it’s saying your cord is broke. If there’s not too many sensors then it’s detected that the DC adapter broke (where the cord came in, it should plug into a DC adapter, at least the old ones did, I’ll check mine in the morning, but just find an adapter with similar rating and replace it (may need some dremel work and hot glue)
What's the project with the old battery?
I want to see if I can use something to dissolve the lead sulphate between the plates or on the plates and then give the battery some fresh sulphuric acid
I’ve seen some videos of adding Epsom salt (Magnesium Sulfate heptahydrate), and then heating the battery by feeding the battery current from a current source like an arc welder.
So all that is pretty dangerous, it could create an arc flash, if the current is started out too high if I overestimate how much current it can handle
so I would want to start with a real low current probably not even on an arc welder and then turn it up to see how much current I actually need to heat it, but it seems really dangerous to me to hook it up to an arc welder directly, and then just flip it on without ever doing any experimentation to see what kind of current is the safe zone.
I got one of these free and can get them often for free .. i wonder if they all just need a new battery
There’s a pretty good chance that that is the case.
Another common thing is, there’s an AC adapter inside of it that goes bad and you can just replace it with a similar AC adapter with the same voltage and current rating, I have used an adapter before that was slightly higher voltage and it seemed OK. I was a little worried that it might’ve been over charging the battery, so I would always set a timer and just unplug it when I thought it was probably full enough.
But fix em up and sell em on Craigs list or something

How long should these batteries last?
That’s a good question. I know lots of things can effect battery life, like:
- What temperature they are stored at
- if they’re allowed to drain really dead
- how frequently they’re used
- I know Lithium Ion batteries die sooner if you keep them at 100% charge, I think they have the longest life only being charged to like 80-85%. I don’t know how Lead-Acid batteries react to charge levels though.
Anyway, having said all that, I have 1 amazing jumper that has lasted 20 years, but it is an anomaly. Most of them last about 3 years, but I have had one last only ~1.5 years, and one last 5 years.
(I keep one in each car, but two in each truck / SUV)

I have had mine probably a little over a year and use it mostly for jump starting car. But recently it has become possessed and turns its self on. The compressor just begins beeping and then it starts. I unplugged and if I flip the battery on off dial it will turn off most of the time, but today it would not even do that! I have to endure to hear the darn thing until it stops on its own. It is too early in the morning to return it to Costco. What a flippin' waste!
That is nuts, definitely defective or possessed. If you do decide to exchange, I have like 6 or 8 of these, (I usually put two in each car), and Ive never had one act up like that. Not sure if that would make you feel better or worse.

If the replacement battery does not work, a dremel, hot glue, duct tape required to replace the A/C adapter... And much luck! I rather spend the extra bucks for a new one hands down. My time is also worth a lot more money...:)
