- Much more than an evolution, the Mazda CX-90 is built from the ground up to stir emotion. As Mazda CX-90 Unboxed continues, Ant Anstead, car builder and master mechanic, gets up close to the CX-90’s inline 6 engine and puts its rear-biased AWD powertrain through its paces.
Ant joins international film star Hiroyuki Sanada, Mazda Senior Designer Yasutake Tsuchida and Powertrain Manager Jay Chen in an examination of the CX-90’s elite performance in Mazda CX-90 Unboxed.

I still have faith in a 6 sedan/coupe with this engine 🥵. Someday.
Yes Mazda, make it happen. Also a Mazda 3 AWD with this inline 6 as the new Mazda 3 MPS 🤤
As long as it isn’t mounted the wrong way…
My speed6 is amazing i would love to have a new speed6 to park next to it
@@silimarina.do u know when mazda3 inline6 will be launch ?
@@nrp9840 No, because that is what i wish. Also with the current generation, it is not possible. The inline 6 would not fit under the hood of the Mazda 3. The current Mazda 3 generation is a FWD platform. They would need to make a new RWD platform, but i highly doubt it will happen.
Cannot beat the feel of a rwd car . Kudos to Mazda for recognizing that . Will definitely buy this
It's only natural. See you soon.
I loved my rwd cars but getting my speed6 to 5-6lbs of boost and dropping the clutch is just a whole different feeling, awd launches are wild what you can do on summer tires vs rwd on drag radials they will pull the same 60’ time. But on a track or driving I’d prefer rwd for the balance and less parts to break
Great start! Now Mazda, resurrect Mazda 6 with this inline 6. Give it an optional 6MT...
Mazda 6 Wagon with this engine.
I would love to see this bad boy of a block being turbocharged for more performance.
It would be interesting if they change the name back to 626
Hi Kirk 🙂
Cool to see you there 😊
I'm subscribed on your channel and really enjoy your updates on Mazda topic 🙂
@@valdiswallace830 my dad got one in 86 and that lasted until I think the mid 90s for us. Red cloth interior and I think gray or silver exterior. I basically grew up in one, it was great
As a marketer (and Mazda fan), loving this marketing campaign to build anticipation for the new flagship in the lineup. This is how you launch a new product. Bravo.
We're so glad it caught your attention, James. Telling the story of this vehicle and the dedication to human-centric design and engineering was important for us.
I’ve been waiting a long time for this launch. I can feel the excitement! I’m in marketing too. This campaign is superb.
Thank you. We're so honored to have you here with us for this momentous occasion.
Great looking CX-90, from what we are able to see. Very nice and wide tires. Very quiet interior. THIS will be another game changer for Mazda!! Congrats!!
Thank you, Stephen. This, indeed, is a momentous occasion for Mazda and marks the pinnacle of our commitment to precision engineering and exquisite design. We're glad you're here with us.
@@MazdaUSA as always!! I just with Mazda would make a small truck, like your BT-50 that is not offered here in America. Here in Texas, trucks, big or small, at the major vehicles that as sold in the State. Mazda is missing out massively for not offering a truck.
@@SRHTX mazda is one of the smallest mainstream auto manufacturers it would not be economically intelligent at this point to make a Japanese truck as they wouldn't be able to compete with Toyota let alone any of the American truck brands that Americans are so stubborn over, just look at Nissan and hondas attempts at trucks and how dismal sales are.
@@jamfd3s788 , oh, trust me. I was born in the car industry when my grandparents use to own a Ford Dealership from the early 1960's until the last day of 1988. My dad is still with a Ford Dealership and has been working in that world for over 55 years. My sister is also in commercial sales at a Ford Dealership where her husband is the part manager at a DIFFERENT Ford Dealership. I just happen to be the Mazda person in the family. If Mazda and Toyota are joined at a plant in Alabama, I'm very sure they could join together and make a small truck. Cars are not much of a thing these days, BUT, here in Texas, trucks are. If Mazda has joined partners to make the BT-50, Mazda can do it here in the US to make a joint facility with Toyota. Heck, I would go from my CX-30 to a Mazda small truck. If Hyundai can make a small one, along with the Ford Maverick, Mazda/Toyota can do it as well.
@@SRHTX I understand what you are saying but there's seems to be a misunderstanding, it's not about whether they CAN do it its about whether they SHOULD, like I said look at the sales for the Hyundai, Nissan, Honda, etc trucks they are not good here in the US, and American buyers are very stubborn and brand loyal ESPECIALLY for trucks, literally the only brand that isn't chevy, dodge, or ford that can compete in the American truck market is Toyota but that only because of DECADES of reputation building and overall legendary status of Toyota trucks and they STILL aren't even close to the number one truck manufacturer even though they are probably objectively the best gas powered truck manufacturer. At the end of the day, it comes to to risk management and analyzing possible ROI and it's extremely unrealistic for Mazda to make a truck as they would almost be guaranteed to lose money doing so.
Great idea to have a great actor like Hiroyuki Sanada narrate this vehicle's genesis. Guy is all class.
Couldn't agree more. We knew we needed legend and dedicated craftsman to help us tell the story of this elite and elegant vehicle.
Watched that video 2 months ago and today John Wick brought me back here just to listen his voice 😃
I love the path MAZDA is following. Congratulations!
We would be nowhere without our drivers inspiring us. We're so glad this spoke to you.
@Mazda USA And yet you are leaving those very drivers behind while you focus on going upmarket and making more and more expensive cars that those same drivers can no longer afford, in your pursuit of larger profit margins.
Yeah, you ain't fooling me. You are still a corporation.
340 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, it's at the same power level with x5, gle and q7, and It's probably much more reliable than the germans, good job Mazda.
B58 has entered the chat.
@@ValkenDnB we don’t even know how this engine stakes up yet, but still would trust it more, after it all its Japanese made and rumors are saying Toyota is using it at some point.
@@nandernugget I'm not questioning its reliability. I'm simply naming one of the many German engines that are reliable to the person saying its going to be "much more reliable than the Germans"
VW 2.0T engine is reliable and makes a ton of power on a stock block, Audi 5 cylinder engines are crazy as it is. Mercedes has proven reliable engine wise and especially in safety. I'm sure the 3.3T mazda is introducing will be fine. Their 2.5T engines make gobs of torque. If anything germans are making more power with their engines with slightly less displacement, but we are talking about an SUV here and not sedans/hatchbacks.
Not probably it will be, since Mazda broke away from Ford they've been making some serious reliable vehicles, I had a 2015 Mazda 3 for 5yrs never had one issue, be looking forward to a Mazda 6.
@@ValkenDnB Even so, when something does go bad, it generally costs quite a bit more to fix a German car than the same fix on a Japanese one. So it could be just as reliable and then end up more expensive in the long run
You guys as a brand have never come short of getting me truly excited as an enthusiast. The innovation and the steps you guys are taking that no one else has the guts to do is so commendable keep up the amazing work guys!
If you're not moving forward, you might as well be in reverse. Thank you for all the kind and encouraging words. We're always innovating and refining to ensure the most meaningful experience for our drivers.
Just a tip, if you are going to assemble a car by hand it would be quicker to turn on the lights. That flashlight is more suited for garbage disposal installation.
This is how premium cars are built 😂
The lower half promises a very beautiful vehicle. Love the chrome trim on the lower bumpers, and the Artisan Red color has such a beautiful dark hue to it. Can’t wait for the official reveal!
We were as meticulous about the engine as we were about its inspiring and elegant new design. Thank you for your kind words, Brian, and stay tuned for more.
I'm not one to normally watch car content on UA-cam, but this is captivating. Love to hear the story behind what's going into this. Got me wanting to test-drive one ASAP!
I'm French and your Mazda CX-90 teaser videos are amazing! I'm a big fan of Mazda because it's a brand for car enthusiasts. Keep it up and I can't wait for January 31 to discover this sublime Mazda CX-90!
It's true. Everything we do is centered around the driver and enhancing your every experience. Thank you for following along and excited to share more soon.
Once you go to Mazda, you will always go to Mazda. I came from knowing nothing about this brand to owing a cx9 and a Miata. I’m very happy so far
So far is exactly where we hope our journey continues to take us. Honored to have earned your loyalty.
Can't miss with those miatas (maybe save the NC lol). I have a similar combo

Looking good Mazda! I love that you're doing more marketing. So many folks don't know about the amazing products that Mazda offers, and how rewarding those products are. I really hope you do a new Mazda 6.
If you know, you know. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement, Terry. We hope to continue providing an enriching experience for all those who understand that driving is meant to be enjoyed, not simply endured.

Just stunning.
Cx-90 is what Mazda needed to open up its market. Admire the passion team Mazda brings to the engineerity and craftsmanship of each of its vehicles. I went from a Gen 3 Supra to a Mazda3 and now own a CX-5 (along with an Infiniti G37xS). Never been happier with the performance/handling to cost ratio. Mazda is definitely my favorite car company. My wife isn't even really into cars but she says Mazda is the best she's driven too.
