Yeah, Esee is a bit pricey but two things to remember. 1.) made in U.S.A. so expensive labor. But more importantly 2.) You’re paying for that incredible warranty.
You could pay a little less for something like a Becker BK-9, but most of the other big knives on the market, including the Becker, come in cheap Chinese nylon garbage. So you end up spending $80 to 100+ on a custom kydex sheath, and you're right up there with the cost of the ESEE again. So ESEE saves you a step and sends their knife in a functional sheath, so you pay a little more initially but save time and hassle because you can actually carry your knife to where you need to use it.
No way finger choil is a waste of blade, I dont like them myself. Stronger without them, really better for thinner blades to. To eatch there own though.
Here is the problem with that. What does it matter whether you remove the 1/8 or 1/16 of an inchvof blade and make it a sharpening choil or keep it there and simply leave it unsharpened? Either way you have an 1/8 or 1/16 or so inch less useable blade length.
It makes me so happy that they didnt put a choil on this knife. Gives me hope knowing that theres still at least one guy out there who knows how to properly desing a knife.
The reasoning that a knife dont cost that much, so i dosent care if it rust. And the knife is still talk about a high quality tool. no no, just take care of your tool.
ive had both, the esee is my 1stline gear the sp-5 is in the trunk. i like having the better sheath out of the box and knowing i can beat it til it breaks is a major win for me, i also like the option to customize or replace the handles and add to the sheath as i see fit which is not possible on the ontario line.
Hey Matt thanks for taking the time to do a thoughtful and honest review....we do appreciate it.

Please never add a choil to the Junglas. It’s perfect as-is.

Own both and the Becker BK9 is more useful and a better value.

My esee 3 came to me 4 years ago as a trade. Best trade I have ever made. The knife is awesome.

Everyone: “Finger choil?”
I totally agree with you on the hammer pommel vs skull crusher spike thing too.
Ordered mine cant wait
Great job brother.
The sheath is reversible (im lefty) and very few sheaths out there can do this.
ESEE rules !
Ever tried a skrama 240?
I used to have an Esee 4HM I bought in Utah. It was stolen from me along with some other tools of mine. Would Esee be willing to replace it?
What you need is to try that Amish Jon from Worktuff Gear:)
