Same here! When I was a young teen, I bought several of those Rambo survival knives at the fair and at a flea market close to our house. That movie started the fire in me for a love of the great outdoors.
I too have looking for the perfect knife. I found it after watching The Preppers Bunker. Jacob did a series of great vids. on the Junglas. I bought the knife that night and have not looked back. It's awesome no doubt. I will watch all your vids. I wish I could buy 10 but I only need one at a time and one will last a lifetime. I have since bought a ESSE 6 for my bump belt.

I finally ordered one last night just before my New Year's resolution kicks in. That was close. Right now it's more an extension of my credit card we'll see what else it can extend to when it gets here, ha. They are hard to find here in Canada. Everywhere you go they are out of stock except for one seller and they only had four left. It's one of those 'snooze you lose' situations because when they're gone they may never come back for sale. I have a bk9 and recently got the Condor k-tact kukri. It will be interesting to compare them. I retired from carpentry and woodworking about 7 years ago at 65. It's a different world going from Urban woodworking to Wilderness Bushcraft woodworking. I'm going to watch your series on this knife it makes for a good video while I'm doing my workouts. Do you still do your powerlifting contests.
I think you will really enjoy using this knife! I have since taken to using the Junglas 2, but the Junglas is still a favorite. Edge retention is incredible. Feels at home in the hand. Still lifting, but not powerlifting at present. Resting my joints with a little higher reps, 8-10. Let me know how you like the knife please

Awesomeness video brother, the Junglas 2 replaced my Esee 6, but the original Junglas is my go to big blade. When you say it's like an extension of the body, I totally agree the balance is spot on.

I like the Junglass, but I bought the TOPS Armageddon about 9 years ago. I liked it, but the pointy little choil in the middle of the handle was in the way. I gave my Armageddon to Leo Espinosa at the NRA Convention in Nashville in 2015 and he sent it back to me three days later with that choil smoothed down. Now it’s so much easier to hold. It’s been my #1 “survival” knife ever since. Do you still have your Armageddon? You might try smoothing down that pointy little choil to see if it works better for you. …just a thought. 🇺🇸
Glad you are enjoying some older videos. Since fire season hit in full force so quickly, I haven't had the chance to make a new video. I actually no longer have the Armageddon or the Junglas. I have really fallen in love with the knives from Architect Knives, and even got to design one of the handle options. The canvas micarta in woodland camo is my contribution. The AK 5 5 is my favorite do it all knife. When I want something bigger I carry the AK8 Paired with the 4.5. High Sabre is my absolute favorite grind on a survival knife as well. The 1095 blades are actually made by TOPS.
I just received my Big knife #7 from Kharkiv forge and blown away at the completely different experience of using a handmade machete. I think you’d really like it. I’ll never have to buy a mass produced survival knife again :p it is incredible

Do you prefer the Junglas so much more then the BK9 ? Tomorrow morning i have to order the one or the order. I think it will be the Junglas. Also because it is a better sheet out of the box. But does the BK9 not a little bit better the fine cutting work ? But weight is a big problem for me. So i have to stick with bringing along just one knife that can do it all.
Since posting this video, I have done several videos on the Junglas 2, And just recently the BK 9. actually have come to prefer both to the original Junglas. The Junglas 2 is now my absolute favorite large knife, but the BK9 is a very, very close second. BK9 will delimb tree boughs easier. Junglas 2 is a little easier to carve with.I truly love them both, but I have to give the edge to the Junglas 2. Please let me know what you decide and how you like it.

There are several factors people will choose one or the other. The handle is an extremely important factor in the choice. The BK is a little smaller, more contoured. So that might be better for medium sized or small hands. The handle of the Junglas is much wider, bit flat on the sides. But good for bigger hands. Opinions differ a lot, Junglas is said to be a better chopper, though I read about people experience the BK9 actually chopping wood better. I have no idea on this. I guess you bought the 10 inch blade Junglas. But now I'm curious to what you have bought. And what you like or dislike about it. 😀
@@Ve-suvius The only thing you can base your decision on for buying a certain knife or choosing between several knifes is to orientate yourself about them. But in the end it will be a bit of a guess i think if you make your decision solely based on what you think. But i must say that i am very happy with the BK9. But to be honest probably i would also have been happy with the Junglas but a bit extra poorer. The BK9 does everything what i want it to do. But defenitly i would have appreciated the sheet of the Junglas much more. If i would have owned both knifes i could have told you wich one i liked more. But i cannot. Only that the BK9 will not dissapoint you. It is simply a good knife. And it chops extremely well. But maybe the Junglas would have chopped better ? I cut down a lot of trees so i can heat up the woodstove. And i use the BK9 a lot to chop the branches. It does that great. Also the ones that are 2 cm in diameter. And the larger ones will loose after hitting them 2 or 3 times. So to me i can not see any benefit in spending much more money for the knife itself. And the price difference is big if you choose the Junglas only to have the Kydex sheet. Sometimes you just have to buy something and be happy with it and not be thinking for years "what if i would have bought the other thing ?". I did not buy it to defend myself against zombies. For me it is a tool. I also took it with me on vacation into Sweden. Spend a week in the forest with the motorcycle. And used it to chop firewood. A large splitting ax would have been much easier but it did its job. If it would be the only thing that you have with you then you would be really happy with it. Better to have a BK 9 then nothing. And until it breaks and i buy another knife i will not know anything else. There is no point in keeping to watch other video's in wich a Junglas will be shown. Get a coin and throw it in the air and pick a side i would say.

I class the original as a large survival/camp knife and the Junglas II as a large combat/survival knife. Watch thepreppersbunkeroutdoors Junlgas vs. Junglas II review, hes not perfect but he does the most scientific chopping test/comparison of the two knives that I've seen and he came to the logical conclusion (like most reviewers of both knives) that the Junglas is still the superior chopper... nearly twice as efficient in his testing. The main task that the Junglas II actually excels over the Junglas would be combative situation were a shorter better balanced knife has an advantage of being less cumbersome and for finer knife tasks that shorter length and balance also is favorable... but for brute tasks like chopping and batoning the additional blade length and forward weight of the original Junglas still holds an advantage. The previous comment wasn't stating that the Junglas has a perfectly balanced weight ratio, he meant the Junglas was designed with near perfect proportions in its overall handle to blade length/size... as all Esee's are imo... the acceptation being the Junglas II, since its a scaled down design it should've also had the handles scaled down to maintain the overall knife proportions... though thats not as cost effective production wise (unless they used the 5/6 handles) and surely would've effected the knives balance which as previously mentioned is near perfect as is even with the beefy Junglas handles. @@TysonHook-22- I agree the Jungles is the better chopper. But I don't use my J2 primarily for chopping... Based on the adventure I am underway with and the means of transport that I use, I will take along another edged tool with my J2 - ie hatchet, or my Hudson Bay cruiser axe. . If I am swinging my edge tools with one hand, for chopping, then the J2 or the hatchet work for my needs. If I'm swinging my edged tool with TWO hands than I always prefer to have a small forest axe, Hudson Bay cruiser axe, for these tasks. REMEMBER in the bush - one is none, two is one. so if I had to choose only one edged tool to take with me, it would be a HB Cruiser Axe,. but I never go with one tool, when I can take two edged tools for chopping!!!! I have three axes that I use for chopping they range in size - 12", 16" and 24" handle lengths. The J2 complements each of them...and for single hand chopping it destroys the hards woods I process. If not a J2 I recommend the Laser Strike, for smaller camp chores, YMWV...
If junglas was sabre grind, with a clip or spear point, 3d handles, a somewhat skeletonized handle, THAT would be awesome. Why is it so hard for them to get that? A knife that size should be tactical by a spear or clip point. It should be a knife to defend yourself from predators too

I have an original Battle Mistress, and the blade has two small chips in it from chopping branches. I have done far more chopping with the Junglas with absolutely no damage. Junglas feels better in my hand as well.

Great video, a pleasure to watch! What was it about the original handle scales that you didn't like, i find them fantastic. Also, you should try an rtak ii, they are pretty much the same blade but the rtak has a choil. You may not like the rtak handle though.
Thank You! I like handles that have a palm swell, just feels like it is molded to my hand. The G10 handles from The Knife Connection are perfect for my hand. I will take a look at the Rtak.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 ah great thanks for clearing that up, i find the handles fit my hands great, just shows that everyone is different. You definitely won't be disappointed with the rtak ii, I'd recommend after market scales for the rtak ii though, the stock handles are quite blocky and huge. The edge may also need dialing in a bit. It requires a little more work than the junglas to be as functional, but blades performance however is very good and the finger choil adds a lot of control for fine work.
I have the RTAK ll , and I just used my Dremmel and rounded the scales off and now they are alot better , I have XL hands so the big blocky scales were not that bad to begin with ... 👍🖖

I striped the black coating off and clip pointed the blade and had a leather sheath made i have had that knife for over 10 years love it

Junglas doesn't get enough credit in the application I use it for -- yardwork! It's a great "stubby" heavy machete.

I prefer the junglas 2 over the Junglas. The junglas is great but feels like a Roman broad sword.

I have an original Battle Mistress, and the blade has two small chips in it from chopping branches. I have done far more chopping with the Junglas with absolutely no damage. Junglas feels better in my hand as well.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 Send it back to Busse. They have a great warranty too. Is it a INFI blade? Or SR101.

If you just want a chopper go with the 1. If you plan to use it for knife tasks as well, the 2 is a better choice.
Ochoco Bushcraft thanks for your info.i ordered the Junglas.it looks like a beast.i purchased the esee camp lore a year ago and love it.i might just get the Junglas 2if I feel the need.i love the handles you replaced I’m going to get some from knife connection as well.

Great video, a pleasure to watch! What was it about the original handle scales that you didn't like, i find them fantastic. Also, you should try an rtak ii, they are pretty much the same blade but the rtak has a choil. You may not like the rtak handle though.
Thank You! I like handles that have a palm swell, just feels like it is molded to my hand. The G10 handles from The Knife Connection are perfect for my hand. I will take a look at the Rtak.
@@ochocobushcraft1742 ah great thanks for clearing that up, i find the handles fit my hands great, just shows that everyone is different. You definitely won't be disappointed with the rtak ii, I'd recommend after market scales for the rtak ii though, the stock handles are quite blocky and huge. The edge may also need dialing in a bit. It requires a little more work than the junglas to be as functional, but blades performance however is very good and the finger choil adds a lot of control for fine work.
I have the RTAK ll , and I just used my Dremmel and rounded the scales off and now they are alot better , I have XL hands so the big blocky scales were not that bad to begin with ... 👍🖖
