- I purchased a 2009 CBR600rr off a guy for $200!!!!! the catch was the bike was wrecked, not running, title-less, and missing many pieces. In this build series you'll see me take a cheap bike and make it into a cheap street legal custom BEAST!!
In this video I rebuilt the entire motor and repaired SOOO many issue, sorry the video is so long but it was over 12hrs of actual rebuild footage!

This man out here doing the impossible reusing parts that people think are one time use and can NEVER be used again. I've seen brand new motor from factory explode so rule of thumb "If it works it works".

It is a testament to Japanese engineering principles that it is almost unheard of to have a Japanese cylinder block re-bored, whereas my English bikes were getting re-bored every second weekend and twice on bank holidays!

This isn't budget. This is ghetto. Main & Rod Bearings should've been replaced and so should have the rings. They don't break the bank but they will break your motor.
The whole point of this build was to do it without a big budget, because if I was to replace all the parts that I should have replaced it would’ve been a $1000 worth of parts.... i bought the bike for $200 I’m not ganna sink a ton of money into this one. i’ll ride this bike and see how long the motor lasts because this is gonna be my personal bike and I’m gonna torture tested to see if if you build a motor like this on a “budget“ if will it last.
Nah there's nothing wrong with this build. It's actually a build on a budget. Main and rod bearings were fine as seen in the video and rings were tested.. Motor should run for a really long time. Keep up the good work bro!

Little update, the bikes still running amazing and I’ve put the bike through hell!
I have adapted sufficiently to using power impact tools, and I can perform tasks effectively even without a torque wrench. However, when considering me as a non-mechanic, it is important to adequately inform about the precautions when using impact tools. For instance, explaining the procedure for tightening spark plugs using an impact tool seems necessary.

You will need to replace your clutch after using that engine lube. I used the same stuff and my clutch worked good until all the moly lube got onto the clutch plates, then it couldn't hold past like 3k rpms. My conclusion was that it was the assembly lube in the oil. The bike was a xl600r (same as a xr650l)

thanks! And that’s the goal I know a lot of people have limited budgets so it’s easier for me to try something and It to fail than others! This is going to be my beater bike so I’ll deathly be putting this motor to the test off-road!

If you do just make sure to replace everything the service manual says too, don’t replicate what I’ve done in this video. This wasn’t a professional build it was more of an experimental build.

I still ride this bike to work everyday and have put almost 10k on this bike since this questionable rebuild and it still runs great!

@@Benjamminoutdoors Ive seen motor rebuilt the same one that runs strong from a very long time. Honda just making a rule of thumb of how the want you to rebuild the motor.
What you couldve done is mark the stretched bolt position before removing it, when you install torque it to its previous position with maybe extra 10 degrees. I've done this before with crank rods and seems to work.
That’s a good trick but it wouldn’t work with these. These 100% should have been replaced they aren’t regular bolts they had a section that was like milled out and twist in it so for stretch and once’s used they are useless. I tried getting back to where they were and I had a few literally snap in half with little torque. The impact was the only way I could get them on tight. (I never build motors like this this was just a budget build for myself)
@@Benjamminoutdoors wouldn't the socket of the bolts be stretched as well? considering the socket to be aluminum, which is softer than steel bolts.
@@kyriekwsta770 well the threads are in the block which is solid and wont stretch but the bolts are thin and skinny so they stretch
Great work man, I'm on a similar job on an 2009 R1, but i hope there are no titanium valves in your engine, the are scraped if you lap them in, because the coating is gone and the will not last long on the impacts on the valveseats
These do not have titanium valves in this year I think they did in 2013 or something.

i bought a brand new car kit cbr600rr motor on ebay for 1k .... technically new it had 600 miles on it and got totaled but motor harness intake headers everything was there literally just install and go
Would you recommend a whole motor inspection for a bike over 31000 miles in mileage?
I’d do a valve adjustment if it’s never been touched and I’d look at everything while you’re there but 31k isn’t that much in all reality!
@@Benjamminoutdoors Thank you! I found a CBR 600 RR '08. The owner is practically giving it away only problem is he said the head gasket is blown & they don't have time to fix it. I'm thinking twice about it, because there's probably more damage to the motor?

Hey bro how much is safe rebuild .my engine is blown and services say only swap new engine becouse rebuild can go only one month .
Plenty reliable if you got someone that knows what they are doing, this motor has 4k miles on it and it’s still running strong. But financially it might make more sense to swap and sell parts of your motor

The whole goal of the build was to do it basically for free, not trying to spend a fortune on this bike. I’ve already broken the motor in and it seems to be fine but I guess we’ll see in a few thousand miles.
@@Benjamminoutdoors trust me I feel ya... but your already right there and it would suck when the gasket fails and you having to start all over knowing that the one thing you should have replaced you didnt... I hope it works for you but gaskets are a one time use
@@doughipp9328 yeah I know it would suck but part of the reason I did it is to prove a point also to show a lot of people who don’t have a ton of extra money whether it will work or not. 30% of my viewership is from the Philippines, India, and Indonesia and parts are a little bit harder to get over there, this build is definitely a lot more experimental and budget friendly!

Hey buddy I have been watching your channel and decided to start a rebuild on my own. But I have stumbled across a little issue I can’t get my bike to start. It is trying to turn over but it’s not starting like what do you think that could be some of the issues to why it won’t start?
kinda hard to say it could be 100s of things, i mean is it fuel injected or carburetor, is it getting spark, is it getting fuel, good compression?
I’m thinking about buying a bike from copart. Is it cost wise to do? Doing the work myself
I do not recommend buying a bike off Copart because it’ll be salvage title and you’re going to pay a premium for it. I would recommend just looking on your local buying and selling sites like Facebook marketplace and just browse regularly for a clean titled bike that was wrecked and do your research before offering any money if it’s a $5000 bike and they’re selling it for 3k and it’s gonna take 4000 to fix it up it doesn’t make sense.

The bearings will be perfectly fine, if anything fails it’ll be the head gaskets or the rings.

Feeler gauge on eBay or Amazon, they are really cheap.

Hey I’m no mechanic but the connecting rod bolts are stretch bolts I think u have to replace any kind of stretch bolts right?..... never mind just watched the part where u said there not supposed to be re used lol
lol the connecting rod bolts are actually fine, those bolts I was referring to were the bolts that bolted the 2 main cases together.

Yeah i was thinking of doing it with the hand drill attachment. You just just have to know what grit number to use so it doesn’t cut too much off.

@@andreungerer3531 LOL 2 completely different motors one is for my nice CBR and the Other is for the $200 cbr. I’ve had three motors to make two good complete motors. The block on this $200 bike now is the one I pulled off of the nice CBR when I tore it down the first time because it had a hole in it.

i have to say, the most cringe on this whole thing, was that Pittsburg indicator, second is the head gasket.. yeah it'll seal, but it's been crushed once.. so for how long? the case bolts, you could measure versus a single new and use closest to new, but i digress.
The Pittsburgh thickness gauge works amazing, and yes this build was more of an experimental motor rebuild to see if you could do it Super cheap because all the parts that need to be replaced would’ve costed like $1000. on a $200 bike I don’t want to sink the money into it and all the people around the world who don’t have parts readily available this is to help them out.
@@Benjamminoutdoors lol it was a joke cause Pittsburg is a harbor freight tool, ive used them but I must admit, overall they're junk and they don't have the third decimal point for the really tight measurements ( i recommend a micrometer from lowes, it's about 10-20 USD more expensive, but the glass is more impact resistant, and it has the 3rd decimal point). The headgasket is still worrisome, but hope it works out.
