Rebuilding a 2008 CBR 1000 RR engine is no small task. This video took us 6 days to just film it and WAY longer if you factor in how long we had to wait for parts.

has to be one of my favorite series to watch. the information is super valuable and being a DIY learning little tricks from B is amazing! thanks guys for the content!
Molly isn't an abrasive. It's a solid lubricant like Graphite. It's included in high-pressure applications to ensure the two parts don't gall/weld.
@@briancruz4343 in the extrusion business we coated the O.D. of extrusion screws with moly because the screws @$100-$200k are the cheap part and the moly saves the inside of the extrusion barrel. It is definitely a lubricant over an abrasive.
Lol and I thought he knew his stuff
These build videos are amazing man!!! I raced an 08 cbr1000rr for years. Did many rebuilds. My engine builder usto walk me through it all and I loved it so much. I wish this video was out when I still had that honda! Keep em comming!
What an incredible video. You can pretty much learn how to build any engine after watching one or two of these. Great series guys.
The only thing I would've done differently is replace the scratched stator cover. It looks like it is still in good shape, but for an extra $100-$200, it would really give that extra touch to making it look brand new.
Not me buying a disassembled 08 cbr1000rr and watching this vid to rebuild it
Bruh 😂😂 I’m watching bc I broke a rod on mine and about to take mine apart
Great video, I kind of hope that in future I too can get into a bike repair career but that's for later right now it is fascinating to get an idea of how our two wheeled road companions work, thanks Brian.👍
why did it take me so long to find this channel!!! awesome content!
We need the whole process of this bike build. I could sit and watch for hrs. Amazing.
Did I miss what happened with the cam chain tensioner? 1 shot there was an issue, the next it was in with no explanation
Fuuuuhk, tell me qbout it. No one on the internet has done anything on the CAM CHAIN GUIDES OR TENSIONER SHOE. Just CCT, CCT, CCT... or anything with that side of the motor 🤯🤬 I'm so frustrated rn
@@rhyno9798Think I can help, unless you know what you're doing, stick with the automatic spring loaded CCT.
But if you really wish to switch to the manual one, you need to find a sweet spot where you hear minimal ticking noise from the timing chain, and no whining sound.
Ticking noise = Loose timing chain
Whining sound = Tight timing chain
edit : So I saw the whole video, he just used the automatic CCT
Thank you for the long format episode.
There's never such thing as too clean for Brian!
Is there no need to gap the piston rings?
They come ready to go, they used the stock cylinder + stock pistons, they usually check the ring gap on the cylinder but probably did that off camera, not really a need since they are brand new as a set. It’s not like they are doing a big bore kit from different brands cylinder/piston/ rings
Wait, what happened to the cam chain tensioner?
Kyle Wyman Army 💪🏼
By far my favorite bike rebuild
well its been so long I thought you were just giving up on rebuilding bikes lol
OC: I'd keep it silver and spend the money elsewhere. Great timing with this video BTW; I'm about to start day #2 of my very own engine rebuild! At least with a V-twin I don't have to do the dance of four pistons.
Think you’re incorrect as to where the conrods go The ID of the big end in the conrod and and the OD if the big end r matched with those letters / numbers to give u the correct brg shell thickness 😎
what happened with that cam tensioner? it didnt look good there with brian when he looked up inside.
Hey ! Got a tiny question there !
Actually not trying to blame on Brian's work, I ain't got a 1/100 of his knowledge and experience
But the "one-time-use-double-threaded-twisted-thing" has been dismounted then re-torqued, does the one time use usually stands for the torquing or the heating of the engine ?
Thanks for replying 💙
Your team's job is incredible, keep it up 👊
Torquing. However the manual asks for you to back off the torque and re-torque which is allowed for with the same bolt.
@@katiejohns3415 oh ok ! Was 99% sure it was for torquing, but didn't know about the re-torque thing, thanks !
Bye ! ')
I wonder if he re-torqed those stretch bolts ?
100%
please, tell me the torque measurements of the connecting rods and crankshaft ... thanks
Help me
Wait a minute, what was the deal with the tensioner not going in?
O.C. I think you need to do something with that stator cover. Silver would be cool to go with the oil pan and head.👍
Never heard of snap Ring pliers ? OMG! If your an experienced mechanic I'm the queen of England !
KWR shirt- respect
Could you use prepsol as a cleaning chemical
is real profecional mechanic I need mechanic like tha for my motocycle thank you
Best video ever!!!
Black. I guess the cam chain tensioner is the family member no one talks about? Lol.
good afternoon. There is vibration in 3rd gear. honda sbr 1000rr repsol 2009
Chase have you had any leaks or any issues with this engine rebuild?
Tell me those were the right dowels for the exhaust at the end.. and the shorter ones went on the bottom 4...
Can you guys do one for a older model like a 92 👀
what will happen if you use the old long crankcase bolt instead of new one?
CO- all black might be nice.
Wow i watch this whole time for the clutch plate and you dint doit 🤦♂️ im installing mine and i need it advise
Love your videos 🤟🏼…I have the same bike …what oil does your mechanic recommend using ?
I need to do this on my Honda CM450E
When the clutch exploded on this bike did it have the updated clutch pud kit from Honda or the original one?
@@briancruz4343 I bought the clutch update kit for mine but still haven't been able to force myself to install it I'm afraid my clutch will eventually break like this if I ignore it for too long.
Will love if the whole engine is black
It’s cute that way
What is price of new crankshaft
SMORT FOR THE WIN
Do yourself a favor and invest in a large ultrasonic parts cleaner like I did. Not sure you can get a better clean for less work. Mides big enough to fit a 2.0L Audi head in it. Only cost me like $550ish.
Awww didn’t u gap the rings first ? 🙀🙀🙀😂
Is it possible to replace the 2015 cbr1000 engine instead of 2009?
I'm sure Brian did it but I would have liked to see him gap the piston rings
Funny, I've never found Building a Motorcycle Engine Stressful, Satisfying yes, Stressful no.
Leave the head silver!!! bare (aluminum) nice build BTW!!
Since you torqued the cases together and had to take it apart, does that mean you need new bolts or will it still be alright? I have to plastigage my engine and I am wondering if I should use the old bolts for it, or the new ones.
If cash and time wasn't a factor. Maybe I would go get new ones
@@paulh9301 I have new ones, but I don't want to use them for the plastigage test, for fear of stretching them. That's why I will use the old ones for the testing. I think they will do, for that.
@@johnb5519 after a certain torque is reached, there sould be no difference when doing the plastigage test.
using old bolts at 2/3 to 3/4 of the specified torque should be fine.
otherwise you'd really need new bolts for every test as well.
So it is very .. let's call it "strange" that this thing kinda just got swept under the rug in the video.
Normally I would expect it explicitly mentioned that they now had to order a new set of bolts because of that.
Once stretched, the bolts def. cannot be reused in the same way as if they were new. And this is a liter bike engine after all.
P.S.: I'm not (even) a mechanic by trade, so DYOR, etc.
@@JB82374 These bolts have a specified torque, plus a certain amount of degrees past that, to achieve the proper amount as described in the manual. One use only. You tighten the conrod bolts to 14 ft pounds, plus 90 degrees, and the mains to 14 ft pounds, plus 150 degrees. I'll use the old bolts for the test and I figure about 18 to 20 ft pounds should do.
@@johnb5519 as I said, you should be alright with way less torque on the old ones if you're just doing the plastigage test.
don't remember where it was, but somebody did tests with no difference after 30 or so percent of the normal torque figure.
putting more torque on pre-streched bolts can result in their unexpected behaviour.
Is all the part Brand new ?
Is it after rebuild the engine can hit more than 20.000 mile
Any one answer me 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Chase what state are you in?
Question is did it run smoothly or did it come to a screeching knocking halt...hmm
Can you please do a review on the “Best” production Cafe Racer, the new Thruxton RS? PLEASEEE
Can someone tell me what the torque specs are for the bolts that hold the two half’s of the crank case together and the specs for the cylinder head bolts are I haven’t been able to find trustworthy torque specs for either set of bolts an this video is the only one I’ve seen that someone is rebuilding this cbr 1000rr engine
When you edited to video to make the impact part of the music
I think the whole motor should be painted black, or a gunmetal colour. Just my 2 cents
In one of the live streams Brian needed a tool and was texting his friend for the site to buy tools. Do you have that site?
OC! 👌🏾
Black!
Chase - I LOVE IT :) Brian - YOU ROCK :)
Show less , do more Brian.
Brian was like dafuq , you just told me to show you the crankshaft 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Motore meraviglioso
OC nice 🙂 bro
OC, blacked out is the way to go
fire giveaway....fly me out and have him go through my 08 cbr 600rr leaking oil a little from unknown location. and im sure he could find it. 12k miles. new clutch, leaks been going on since i bought it, real slow like 1 2 drips a day i cant find out why,
How do I win the bike?

What a pain in the A**.
I was wondering how you were going to compress the rings on all four pistons and then slide the cylinders on and then get the ring compression tools off after, That would have been something to watch. Incase your wounding my profile picture is a connecting rod and a crank so I wounder what I do for a living, world may never know.
This is a professional motorcycle mechanic ? Perfect example why I don't pay mechanics !
Rude
explain?
sure being an experienced mechanic is great but mistakes happen and 90% of the time it isnt the mechanic, its the parts.
Seems as if you have gone out of you way to create a profile solely for the purpose of shitting on this channel.
@@trwilliams22 Wow didn't see those previous comments..
This guy is probably frustrated not being able to start his own garage, so he shits on other ones that have projects 🙃
It’s great seeing when people make mistskes, I’ve never made one before, but it’s fun watching others
"Always read the manual and go line by line"
Fucks it up anyway and disassemble the whole engine case because he didn't read the manual when trying to install the pistons in the cylinder....all four in one go...
Ya complete idiots now the case will be flexing and distorting using double stretched Tq to yield bolts and knows absolutely nothing about engines clearly doesn’t even know that the crankshaft rides on an oil film and there’s no freaking grit and the sulfide grease to grind the bearings and crank together to meet them holy shit these guys are idiots is a freaking hydrodynamic wedge of forced oil pressure the crank doesn’t even touch the bearings it rides on a film of oil if he put grit paste in the bearings and crank that engine will be toast but obviously he clearly does not know what disulfide grease is 🤦🏻♂️
Super annoying whenever the music plays so LOUD!
Only selfish mechanics don't share torque specs..
What's the sense of this video 📹 if you won't at least 🤔 share torque specs for the crankshaft bolt...
