UK summer fashion is genuinely nuts to me. Fatigue pants, black leather boots, heavy ruby shirts, long sleeve polos, denim jackets…there isn’t even a single thing in this video anyone in America could wear in the summer.
I do still wear denim jackets and leather boots in summer in AZ but those are with lighter items (femme fashion). As long as there's some movement/flow in the outfit I'm usually okay.
@@JamesLeung Im so jealouse! I love cloudy chilly weather. Here in california (wine country/San Francisco) I tend to wear linen/linen blend pants, Birkenstocks, and usually a button down short sleave or open knit sweater polo during summer. Perfect style for day drinking wine on the terrace lol
i'm in the south/mid-atlantic and fatigues and jeans are definitely doable on the right days. and boots can definitely be pulled off with shorts imo. but long sleeves and denim jackets are an absolute no-go imo, lol.
I’m from California, and there are days in the summer where these outfits would work, like a day where there is suddenly 10mph winds or even rain. It depends on the weird weather California has and and it’s better to be prepared. Great video, James. Fatigues are fantastic. I picked up a pair of J crew Wallace and Barnes fatigues in olive a few years ago and love them. I would like to eventually upgrade to the Orslow pair.
Yay vintage videos are back! I absolutely love how you can take these old cuts/fits and make them modern again. I get more inspired by this than the videos about "new clothes". This feels more timeless & authentic
How do you shop vintage clothes? I have a hard time finding whats good vs whats just crappy/old, is shopping vintage a LOT of trial and error, trying a LOT of stuff out in store? Do you look for certain materials or other things that say 'this is quality'? Vintage shopping in the past got me mostly stuff I thought I liked, but didn't feel great about when returning home and comparing/trying it out with the rest of my fits
I recently was in Atlanta, GA and it was blazing hot 90 degrees most days. I chose paper thin short sleeve tees and linen tops paired with cotton shorts to keep cool. While your style is impeccable as always, I don't believe these fits would tolerate the Summer heat here in America. Cheers!
My suggestions for the UK summer: chukha boots in suede and the best brand is probably Astorflex, or Clarks. Canvas trainers without the usual predictable branding. Lightweight denim. Merino wool tops from John Smedley or Uniqlo.
30 degrees Celsius where I live, I decided my summer fit to be the one you showed in a recent video with the tanktop, shorts and lightweight oversized shirts. But I'm interested in the pants here, I'll look around for Fall.
For the surplus pants, you could talk to a trusted tailor to see if he can taper the legs down. I say "see" because the pants also have a fuller bum so not sure how that will look for a taper leg. OD and brown are my fav colours for vintage surplus pants where as camo is best limited to jackets.
These looks are very interesting for autumn season here in Italy. For summer season, I'm trying to create some looks mostly with short/long linen pants or thin cotton fabric and short sleeve linen shirts to keep cool against the heat and humid weather.
It’s good that you acknowledge towards the end that UK weather in the summer is cooler than in many other countries. For instance, London has a high/low of 20C/9C today and 26/16 next week with a humidity around 50%. Where I live, it’s 32C/27C at 90% humidity, with the humidity making it feel like 38C/33C. I did visit London last month with the outdoors feeling like a pleasant, air-conditioned environment compared to hot, drowsy hell where I live. While your ruby/polo long shirts and denim jacket do look stylish, one would be drowning in sweat wearing those in where I live. Since businesspeople and professionals in the office are expected to wear suits and tie, the air conditioner must run at full blast, increasing carbon emissions or necessitating the use of nuclear power. With climate change clearly manifesting and killing people vacationing in Greece, I argue that practicality must prevail. We should allow everyone at work or in the government to wear T-shirts so that carbon emissions from air cons can be controlled. I do applaud you for suggesting loose trousers, however. I would also suggest the use of umbrellas to shield against the harsh sun even though it’s no longer fashionable in Western culture with everyone covering themselves with suntan lotion. (Certain suntan lotions do stain clothing unless it is titanium-oxide and or zinc-oxide based).
Yep it’s definitely dependent on where you live, I should have emphasised that more. Very good point about air con and environment. A lot could be saved by letting people dress for the appropriate temperature. Thanks for watching!
Good finds James. I love your style choices and brands you pick. I went on a crazy shopping spree and bought tons of stuff with no regrets. Some of which were Paraboots x Engineered Garments Clusaz in suede green, Paraboots Michaels in gloss black, Kartik Research trucker jacket with hand sewn bead embellishments, Ann Demeulemeester rectangle mirror ring, Howlin camp collar shirt, Corridor pointelle shirt, Róhe olive virgin wool Bermuda shorts, a black leather bomber jacket from Mr Porter from the brand Officine Generale, Semi sheer brown linen shirt from Kartik Research, Needles green and purple HD track pants, Engineered Garments navy poncho, and loads of other stuff like jewelry accessories and vests for layering. So far, everything has been super awesome for layering, but the care level is on another level for cleaning them like the silk shirt and I have to remove my hand beaded embellished jacket before wearing a seatbelt, but I’m fine with that because it’s awesome and I feel awesome wearing all the things.
Thank you James! It felt right to spend money I’ve been holding on to for so long on things I really wanted instead of splurging on low quality items that look good at the moment. I like the rugby shirt you got. I had the same idea because I like how some rugby shirts have a contrasting white collar with the body alternating colors. The one I saw used piqué cotton and was oversized with short sleeves and then each stripe was sewn on to the next stripe. It’s unique from a traditional rugby and looks different from a polo. But I had to return it because of a button hole defect. All good.

I wish dude but I live in Southern California, we get triple digits all summer long unfortunately shorts and a T-shirt is all I can wear without dying 😂
Fair enough bro! 🤣😭
I would say that these outfits are kinda painful for people like me who live in the south of Spain hehe. I usually go for linen, sandals… that’s pretty much it hahah. Also tank tops, but that’s not for every kind of situation… yeah, linen and thin cotton DA best. Also, 100% agree in the fact that boots in summer are NUUUTS. So coool with shorts haha. I’ve got some reddish camper boots kind of clowny haha, and I just love them with shorts. Also, my Dr. Martens 1461
Yeah I can imagine Spain will get crazy hot in the summer! Although the long sleeve polo could still work since it’s so lightweight. Thanks for watching!
@@JamesLeung thank you bro, I love your channel and your aesthetics are really close to what my style is leading to 😊
Those boots would probably be uncomfortable to wear in summer here in New Zealand where i live. They take me back to the 1980s in look.
My problem is that I always want to wear all black in the summer and super bright colors in the winter
Hah I know what you mean, I do the same!
Bro bought two identical denim jackets in the same colorway, that's so me.
Pretty much haha 🤣
How to dress like a nerd in summer, but not being a nerd and... not being in the summer
Street style is not my style but i appreciate your take on it
This isn’t exactly street style..
Thank you!
@@Bynasf I agree, its more like a working class man trying to dress in a street style manner
@@Bynasf like a man in an oil rig trying to dress in a street style manner.
Yeah I'm pretty sure now all influencers don't do real summer looks because you just can't make them interesting. Either that or they try to convince you that wearing layers in summer "is not that hot". It can't be that all of them live in sub 20 degrees C in summer.
Yeah true. This is very specific to where I live in the UK, I should have mentioned it really
I like it. Of course, this guy would look great wearing a paper bag.
🙏
Love your takes but this feels more like spring than summer
I guess UK summer is basically spring for the rest of the world 😅
Summer it’s ok, the worst season for stylish is winter
Ahh I feel the exact opposite!
Me watching this while its 39 celsius
Sheeeesh our ovens don’t even get that hot in the UK 🤣
@@JamesLeung now its 42 :)
Mediterranean weather acting kinda funny🤒
I think it depends WHERE in summer. Try wearing some of these in Asia humid summer. I rather feel comfortable than sweating like a rap1st
Yeah I hear you!
Uggh i wish i had a 29 waist lol i could wear anything
You can make it work bro! 👊
It’s all about shorts, tee’s & linen for me in AZ. Any layering would be a tshirt under my light fabric short sleeve shirt. Dig your style, not suitable for my climate.
Sounds good man! 👍
If you think solovair is better then dr Marten’s you need to try Redwing moc toe
I have Redwings! They’re lovely
@@JamesLeunghave you done review on the redwings?
💛💛💛
The clsrks desert boot w/ shorts have been a style I’ve done over the years & always seems clean
Yeah they’re lovely!
😍😍😍
this video has great examples for the winter.
James? Why do the English hate summer?
If you struggle with summer style, please migrate to Scandinavia. 😊
It appears the 1950s are in again. The irony..
Fashion will always come back around!
you're too cute.
Thanks 🤩
