I try my best to pay attention to what’s in fashion and determine the pieces that will remain somewhat timeless. Means I can be “on trend” but over time accumulate a timeless wardrobe regardless.
Timeless pieces are ALWAYS a must. These are the pieces you should invest the most money on as they will last you longer. So there will be less need in the future to add the pieces. There still should be room in your wardrobe for trendy pieces just to add some modernity in your style while allowing you to test something different. You never know you may find a piece that you might like to keep
Another timeless top are wool/cashmere jumpers. Either roll neck or round neck. Start with black, grey, navy, beige. Buy good quality and they will last for several years. I've also bought a good quality black shearling aviator jacket from All saints with a straight cut. I've been wearing this for several years. Also consider blouson jacket, simple varsity jacket, leather jacket (biker, collared coach, bomber, aviator styles).
Another great video! I never pay too much attention to trends because I usually wear what I like and what suits my style, so timeless pieces are a must in my closet 😊
Dark colored quailty rain/wind jackets are/will be timeless as they are funtional and plain. Waxed Beaufort style jackets are timeless for the same reason.
Love your content, it’s really insightful! Just my opinion however - buying something isn’t ’investing’ unless the item will go up in value or give you returns. Not buying similar pieces because you’ve bought a quality item that stays with you for ages is called a saving. I feel ‘investing in an item’ is just an excuse to buy something expensive! Anyway, keep up the great stuff!
Good point! I guess some clothes will go up in value but I definitely use the word investing a bit too loosely. What I really meant was don’t be afraid to spend a bit more on something nice! Thanks for watching
Great video, James. Your channel should be so much bigger than what it is, you always produce great content that isn’t just sponsored crap. I agree with using trends as a way to accentuate your outfits if you prefer.
Great video man! Gained a new sub. To get to the topic I think all these pieces were trendy at some point and new trands that come in have the potential to become timeless classics.
What about semi timeless/trendy? For example skinny jeans they were popular for a good 15-20 years and people still wear them but also a lot of people hate them now. Do you think baggy pants are the new skinny jeans? Maybe itll be the jean for everyone the next 15-20 years?
I find that plain but well fitted blazers are staples for me. I've worn a favourite woollen black one with skinny jeans, regular straight legs and fairly loose fitting trousers, and they just always seem to work. I think I differ slightly from you in that I think that skinny (NOT spray on) jeans have become almost modern classics. I see very stylish people still wearing them sometimes. Ladies especially. Cheers.
Great point about blazers! Actually I’m with you on the jeans. Maybe more slim rather than skinny, but I think they’re classic and timeless. They give a great silhouette!
Timeless is not just a pieces.but also the cut,the style, color, and how to style it.that way u can truly achieve what timeless is.u can have suit which is truly timeless piece.but if the cut too tight or too short,it will reminds people of 2010,meanwhile oversize suit will reminds people of 1990's.loafer are timless shoes, but if the color is neon green it will look trendy or if the color is darkburgundy which is timeless color but u wear it with oversize or tight outfit overall outfit become more trendy.if that's make sense. Just my opinion by the way.
great video, I think timeless pieces can also be a trendy pieces, and sometime it is personal, when something trendy and you love it and you stick to it beyond its original trendy lifespan, then for you it is a timeless piece. for example it you like waxed skinny biker jeans from 2010 and you wear it in 2024 then for you that pants is a timeless piece and money well spent, on the other hand even if an article of clothing is made with timeless piece in mind but you don't enjoy wearing it then for you it becomes a trendy piece, for example carhartt jacket, if you just don't like the style, but you bought it because it was trendy to wear anything carhartt, or 25oz unsanforized raw selvedge in straight leg and high waist, if you feel stupid with the ancient looking shape and you can't stand the roughness of the fabrics then you only bought it for the hype. while both carhartt jacket and selvedge jeans are timeless pieces by design and quality just not for you. my personal timeless piece: -crosszip leather jacket, m65, trucker jacket, type2 jacket -white turtleneck sweater, horizontal striped t-shirt, collarless shirt in black, navy and beige -black skinny jeans, straight leg corduroy, wabash fatigue pants, slim straight heavy weight raw denim, camouflage cargos -harness boots, combat boots, chelsea suede, double monkstrap, wholecut oxford, and cons sneakers -black/ charcoal fiddler cap, olive commando cap
In my opinion gorpcore is timeless and has been around for a long time it just didn’t have the name to it as most of the people who bought it actually utilized it for what it’s made for. Patagonia, REI, Merrill, etc have been around for decades
You obviously don't travel, loose fitting clothes are always in style along the Mediterranean, "coastal grandma" is timeless. Its only with fast fashion penny pinching that ill fitting tight clothing became a trend, sad its part of a whole generation's identity.
Waiting for the triumphal return of capes into the mainstream fashion scene. Haha, glad you mentioned for a quick second the Dickies 874. They are not the best quality this days, but i think they have a great and timeless fit that goes with lots of different tops and footwear options. Love them as an everyday use kind of pants. Do you know if there is a quality alternative out there?
Haha me too 🤣 to be honest I’m not sure of any higher quality alternatives, which is strange because they’re such a simple piece but don’t seem to have been replicated much!
Ignoring the financial aspect, isn’t the point of fashion to experiment, be creative, and express yourself? It’s kind of like art. I disagree with the video introduction stating that being timeless makes things easier. Fashion is not a chore for those who enjoy it, it’s part of the excitement when new ideas and styles emerge so you can create new combinations.
Who said fashion was a chore? Having outfits that are easy to put together isn’t a bad thing. And timeless pieces can help with that. You must have missed the bit where I said trends are great for finding new styles and experimenting.
Great video! Though u seem to be very carefull with terminology i would be more caution to call something timeless. Some of the pieces u point were made mainstream popular like less than century ago, if we consider that modern age started in the XV century, pieces with 70/60 yrs r only timeless if u consider average human life longevity. Oh and minimalism in fashion is about 40yrs old, so it would be a post modern thing.
I don’t think the word timeless is accurate when talking about fashion, they are inherently contradictory terms. I find “timeless” more relevant to colours such as neutrals. Silhouettes, textures & finishing change drastically with time and anyone who has bought something from a thrift store because a particular style has come around again, only to actually look and realize how “off trend” it actually is knows this. Personally I find clothes that are classed as “timeless” or “lasting” quite nondescript and I guess a bit dull. I would say my father had a wardrobe full of these pieces and it aged him and gave the impression of someone who wasn’t particularly creative when it came to dressing, this is the antithesis of fashion to me. Sure if you want to wear the same clothes for years and years, durable and non trend driven pieces are what to buy but yawn. 😉
I think puffer coats are timeless at this point. Maybe not all of them, as most are ugly, but something like the north face nuptse is part of streetwear forever.
Eh, I don't know, for a few decades Member's Only jackets were "timeless" and you still see boomers try to pull it off. Quiet luxury was at one time rather loud, a good game of golf involved all manner of pink and green Lacoste.
I just adore the old skool, authentic, slip on ones. Especially the classic checkerboard ones. Me wanting them in the first grade tells you how it stood the test of time.

Yes definitely! Irish wool jumpers in particular are fantastic. Great additions, thank you 👍
Another great video! I never pay too much attention to trends because I usually wear what I like and what suits my style, so timeless pieces are a must in my closet 😊
Love that! I’m starting to do the same. Thanks for watching 🙏
Do you think winterwear like puffers and sweaters are timeless too?
Dark colored quailty rain/wind jackets are/will be timeless as they are funtional and plain. Waxed Beaufort style jackets are timeless for the same reason.
Agreed!

It’s funny because the word “Invest” comes from the Latin word “vestis” which means clothing
@@Rumination. fair, I take everything I said back 👏🏽

Do you think lace up boots and combat boots are timeless? Doc Martens, Solovair, etc.
I now buy Solovair as the soles can be replaced & it's made in the UK ( does one need to qualify this?).
They've been in since forever, timeless imo
bro i found u lately, kind of by accident, and i love ur content ever since
Love that you found me haha, thanks bro!
“Rule of thirds” mind blown
Really fresh and helpful video. Thanks for your work!
Thanks for watching man!
What's your thoughts on NB 2002R or NB 990 being timeless?
I would say yes to the 990, it’s definitely a classic! Not too sure about the 2002r though

fit is the key too. baggy and oversized is a trend.
You obviously don't travel, loose fitting clothes are always in style along the Mediterranean, "coastal grandma" is timeless. Its only with fast fashion penny pinching that ill fitting tight clothing became a trend, sad its part of a whole generation's identity.
would you consider chelsea boots timeless?
Yes I would. Even though they’re not popular at the moment, I think there will always be a place for them in anyone’s wardrobe.
Waiting for the triumphal return of capes into the mainstream fashion scene.

The long coat can technically be considered as the new cape so technically it hasn’t gone out of style😂
Oh damn you might be right haha!!
We should bring back wearing cape
Agreed haha
Totally agree with you 👏👏👏👏🇬🇧
Thanks for watching! 😊

But jeans aren’t from US. They are from Genoa in Italy 🇮🇹😉💪
Thank you! Ahh thank you for the correction. I was concentrating on Levi’s too much!
G'know 'er? I think she's de Nime. No, not apologising.
Bahhaah those boxing gloves shoes 😅 🥊🥊
Are there any pieces you regret buying?
Yeah for sure, that could be a good video topic for the future! It’s usually expensive items that were short lived trends.
Timeless >>
where the fuck do you find high waisted trouser?
I like timeless I have Some pare of gh bass Penny loafers
They’re lovely!

Thank you man!!
Just because over sized clothing is not your style , doesn’t mean it’s not timeless. 😅
Oversized has always been around. It's mostly how you style it. Wearing all oversized all the time might not be the timeless though.
It is my style, actually. But I definitely don’t think it’s timeless.
Man...90% of this video was obvious bullshit and in the end (actually only beginning of useful part) u say i'm done for today
one word Grooming
Timeless time u get boring
That haircut is timeless??
WTH? no baracuta g9 harrington jacket? one of the most iconic timeless jackets! c'mon man
There’s a lot of stuff I missed! Definitely agree on the G9 👍
great video. vans old school kinda get a bad rep in the modern fashion world i'm not sure why, but I'm glad you agree they are timeless
Absolutely! They’re one of the most versatile and recognisable shoes out there.
