    Why are people so mean? This isn't for everyone, but it's still helpful for people who just want to groom their terrier. A lot of people aren't going to strip the coat, so this is a good alternative for them!

      Meh, people can be jerks and/or set in their ways. I want the hand stripped look and health benefit, so will probably do this vs hand stripping. But its everywhere, in Jeep land its 4.2/4.0 vs new engines, in the gun world its 9mm vs 45ACP, in surfing its short board vs longboard, etc. I have respect for both worlds usually, nothing is black and white. The world needs more nuance in it. Especially in 2021, lol

      @@ofrisingstar3579 it's still better than shaving. It's a new world, so people dont want to spend hours hand stripping, when we have kids, family, working 6 days a week, etc. But it can help keep that "traditional" look of certain dogs going and appreciated. It may even help some want to get to the "next level" of hand stripping, we all start somewhere. I've done alot of hobbies, built surfboards, built rat rods-cars and bikes, good amount of gun sports, etc. All of them I started small, and when I learned the ropes got into the more "master" levels. Hand stripping is master level type stuff, and like tuning a carb, only the real hardcore get into it, and it's more and more a dying breed of people, sadly. Appreciate the newbs and teach and praise them, even if not exactly master level, then help them get to that level safely-here, for the dog and themselves, lol.

    great for pets, thank you. Folks, these are rakes, not stripping knives, meant for pets, not show coat. very similar to the popular PET grooming tool, fulminator. It serves a purpose for the pet owner who wants to keep their house and car cleaner. Yes, the terminology is not correct as this is not stripping, but pet owners would not know the difference anyway, and it is not necessary in order to learn to do this at home.

    HI, I was wondering, can I do this with my 2 year old Westie. She is sooooo terrified by the Hair groomer - From Bath, Drying & hair Cut. We normally leave with the cut unfinished as she so traumatized. she bite the last one, the groomer said in not so many words, don't come back! We have tried a couple of them. I have decided I will do it myself. I can shower her, dry and trim her without much drama. She is pure breed but a family pet so she won't have to look like a show case. I don't want to damage her coat as we live in a rural area & walk in the mountains-. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

      I agree, but many pet owners do not have a clue , nor do they care about maintaining the coat properly. They bring them to groomers when the coat is not ripe, or when the dog has been shaved somewhere else. There are times when we have no choice but to try to groom to breed profile, even if grooming to breed standard is not an option.

Doing I DURING plucking is about the stupidest thing you can do. I would not trust this woman for grooming advice and I would recommend you make the effort and strip the dog yourself because these are the methods most lazy groomers will use. One of my main complaints about this video is the statement 'As you can see, she's not in any discomfort or pain'. This bothers me a lot, not only does this dog's body language suggest that she is uncomfortable with this situation, but she looks fearful! No dog should have their tail (metaphorically) glued between their legs. If you look at most border terriers, their tail is either in a relaxed low position, or an alert, inquisitive position horizontally stuck out. She's clearly not comfortable in this situation and, by the looks of it, this woman's rough handling and brushing as well as holding the extra skin on her neck/her muzzle is not helping her situation. These are signs of dominance and aggression. The dog shouldn't be subjected to this, it's ridiculous.

      @@Conny226 I'm unsure as to whether this comment is to defend the woman, or whether you're trying to fuel the situation.
      If it's in her defense, that's not a good thing, and it certainly isn't helping her situation. I won't repeat what I said in my last comment as it's already been said, but this just means that she's consistently making the dogs uncomfortable and should really look into her technique.
      If it's to fuel the situation, thanks for letting me know, but it was unnecessary and I really don't want to know. I haven't looked at her other videos as I was just doing research, which she provided no help for, and I was appalled at how the dog was responding to her, therefore, I didn't watch anything else.

      You have to hold the skin taught to make it comfortable to the dog, if you remove shedding hair on loose skin, that will hurt the dog. The dog may be a little nervous because he is in a strange place, but he is not mishandled. Body language is different during work at the groomers, than when playing. They exhibit a submissive role, because when being groomed, they know that they are in the groomers territory, and the groomer is top dog. So they exhibit normal wolf/ dog body language.

    • @dragonsinneedofcoffee104
      @dragonsinneedofcoffee104 5 років тому +1

      @@grandestyledoggrooming Grande Style Pet Grooming I have so many things to say about this. No disrespect, but in my limited experience, I've never seen any dog look so uncomfortable in a grooming environment. New territory or not, unless a dog has anxiety issues or has been placed into a situation too quickly, they shouldn't look that submissive, the hunched back is the big give away. If the dog does have serious anxiety issues, not only is that an issue that the owner has to deal with (-delicately) but the groomer should be able to notice this within the first few minutes of seeing the dog. Because of the dog's anxiety, almost any groomer that I know of, would take this knowledge into account and mold the situation to something where the dog is most comfortable, the distraction method could work (where the groomer introduces rewards to the dog whilst it is experiencing these things) which would then allow the dog to associate this place with fun and happy memories and actually be enjoying the situation. This dog looks the complete opposite of what she should. The fact that this woman seems to instead be focusing more on her viewers online, as well as putting an uncomfortable dog into an even more stressful environment, rather than making this experience easier on her, we can infer that this isn't working. One more thing, reverting back to my original comment when she said that the dog wasn't in any discomfort, you've actually just contradicted her by telling me that she'd be nervous because of this 'new territory' which makes me worry. So, from what you're telling me; not only does she not consider the anxiety that this dog could potentially be facing but she's also clearly ignoring it and she's exhibiting a bad case of attention seeking by prioritizing the internet rather than focusing on her main concern - this border terrier. - Shocking, really.
      And as for grasping the skin, although it may be possible for that to work, I don't actually believe that she should be grasping it so much that it looks like it's hurting the dog. - Maybe it's just me, but I really don't think that this is how you handle this type of situation. I've seen other groomers with perfectly relaxed dogs doing something akin to this without the dog looking nervous, uncomfortable, or in anyway not consider them being groomed as an enjoyable experience. Therefore, I'm afraid that we'll have to agree to disagree on your comment.

      @@dragonsinneedofcoffee104Groomers often are not in a position to treat the dogs during work for many reasons. I use comforting strokes, verbal praise and the like. This dog is at a noisy convention, so naturally it is much different than when in a salon. I have watched this groomer with other dogs and she is really quite compassionate with the dogs. It is likely that this dog traveled to the convention and just met her. The dog obviously does not have any serious anxiety, trust me. If it did, you would see more than body language issues. While you have limited experience, I have over 50 years every day in a grooming salon, the dog is fine.
