A suitably grand and joyous finale to one of the greatest musical plays of all time.

Gorgeous and wonderful singer Shirley Jones and the marvelous voice of Gordon Macrae.

I remember being 16/17 and deep into depression and at one point considered ending it all. But this film and carousel helped me and brought so much happiness into my life. Now I’m 23 and so happy I never went through with it. Still bring me so much happiness watching this. Truly a classic film 🤍

Why don’t you watch The King & I and The Sound Of Music next?

Oklahoma was filmed twice in different formats with different takes. This is the 35 mm Cinemascope performance most of us saw growing up. In the TODD-AO 70 mm version which is most frequently streamed, there are substantial differences. For example, in this scene where Aunt Eller bangs on the door and nobody answers, she looks around for a few seconds and shrugs her shoulders. That very slight nuanced bit of suspense that makes the scene memorable is missing in the TODD-AO version.

Not only is the difference in performance interesting, the fact this was shot I'm Todd AO is even more fascinating. Same camera system as some excellent documentary work 50 years later.

Rodgers gave the final notes a little booster shot.

And who's in the carriage at 0:22 cheering them off? Bambi Lynn, in front, wearing a similar blueish colour - aka the "Dream Laurey", principal dancer in the Dream Ballet. Perhaps that's some of the other Dream dancers there with her? (they were largely uncredited - I'm thinking of the one in white, whether she was the lead Salon girl in the Dream).

They don't make 'em like this anymore! Movies today are garbage compared to the Golden Era of Hollywood!

The 1950s was an era of towering dullness and sanitized horse shit! But I love Shirley!
