Amazing video Robert, thank you. I came here, say, from your other video on making your older car last a long time! I believe you covered everything regarding overheating, so I would like to just add my 2 cents very respectfully here. My car started overheating in stop-and-go traffic a few weeks ago and NOTHING was visibly wrong. To cut a long story short, the problem was not visible for the untrained eye (by the way with some steam coming out of the coolant reservoir and in HORRIBLE traffic in Mexico City!!), but it was the electric fan that had stopped working. So my mechanic advised when I talked to him, first looking at the obvious, when nothing seems wrong with the car because you have checked all the levels and everything seemed fine the last time you checked! Anyway, 1st., ELECTRIC FAN--cable, motor. It is a simple test with a couple of cables and your battery; 2nd., TEMPERATURE SENSOR (which moves the fan and is usually easy to replace); 3rd., THERMOSTAT (I believe easier and cheaper to replace than water pump), and finally THE WATER PUMP ITSELF. Again, this applies to a car in the above situation and NOT a car that is clearly leaking coolant or a car that overheats even at normal speeds. Thanks again for the video and take care.
This Video was only so great in terms of production value, but don’t let it fool you this guy explains these issues more helpfully than anyone I’ve heard. Thanks man.
Replacing a head gasket can be kind of expensive and plus mechanics don't always do it correctly and the car wont' run right afterwards so most people will just replace the car. With that said if there isn't many other issues with the car or if you have sentimental value with it, people will fix the head gasket and hope for the best.
Whispered - fuck it. I would fix the head gasket. I would rather take care of what I have, then to replace it with another car that has other problems that I'm not aware of
Jonathan, for some reason I am not able to reply to your message. Likely some setting you have in your account. Anywho, when the thermostat is missing, it will take much longer for the car to warm up, so you need to install a thermostat. If there is corrosion in the system, it is likely due to someone using water instead of a coolant mix. The system should be flushed and filled with the proper coolant. The issue with the fan is likely either a problem with the relay or with a temperature sensor. You should fix that as well.
My grandfather car was over heating some guy said to drive fast and it works my grandfather and me and my dad was stuck in Manhattan when we drove fast in the Brooklyn bridge and we are back home we came back at 113 in the morning
Usually with my car i can bypass waiting for the radiator fan to come on by turning on the A/C. Not sure if it works with other cars but on mine it'll kick on a minute or two after the A/C is turned on and this will work if the car isn't completely up to operating temps. Usually i will wait until the car is at operating temp before running the A/C but in extremely hot weather will keep my coolant temp gauge from going too much past the middle in which case when the coolant temp gets around 210-220 and by the time the fan turns on it would reach about 225-230 or more (which is right around the point where i'd be worried that your car could overheat). Personally the way they designed the car to have the fan to turn on when it's past the middle is too late, it should turn on when the needle gets about half way or moves past the middle point. (about 190-200). It really should not be going past middle at any time unless there is a problem and typically my car runs a bit hotter which is normal but that's when they need to have the fan run when the car's coolant temp is still at a safe temp.
Hi Robert, Our '96 Ford E150 had the temp gauge sensor reaching too high. Replaced the sensor and thermostat, but no fix. Never knew it was the water pump because there were no strange noises indicating a failure. Now it works perfectly, and while I was at it I replaced the radiator too. Thank you.

Very good video. I personally replace the coolant cap every 10 years. Go OEM and buy a new one. Not worth waiting until it goes bad. Just replaced on my 11 year old Toyota and Honda.
My reservoir was bubbling when I got home and I replaced the radiator cap and it stopped it but now its overheating. As soon as It starts to go over the normal temp I pull over and turn off the car. As soon as I started again even after a minute it wil go back to normal temperature but after 5 mins it will start overheating. I also noticed that when I turn on the heater it stops it from overheating. I grabbed some oil from my dipstick and put it on a spoon on the stove to see if it would bubble because water boils but not oil and thanfully my test did not boil. Any suggestions? (fans work, and topped off coolant after the bubbling incident)
Just so you know, I'm testing myself not you. I want to make a video that helps people, not confuse them. I'm pretty sure my video did not tell you to take oil and put fire under it. But I do want to know if it is helpful.
Very comprehensive diagnosis much appreciated. I just flushed the radiator out bc the coolant was very low and what was left was rusty coolant. The car does not over heat but the engine gets super hot compared to my Honda even way after the car has been in park. I might just get a radiator for her Buick LaCrosse
What would really suck, is if the overheating is a freeze plug issue. Changing the freeze plugs normally require a mechanic to drop the transmission (big bucks). This is why, as you say, it is important to add the right anti-freeze and water mix to prevent that.
Hello Robert, thanks for the elaborate and logical presentation and education. But I have this situation where my 1992 Lexus ES 300 with a replaced 2.5 litre engine, it's over heating at a higher speed only and remains ok in low rev and regular city.
ROBERT DIY, The temperature gauge in the dash board says the car is overheating, So I'm not sure if its giving false readings. So i'm trying to test the temperature gauge in the car. 1.) Can I just SPLICE into the temperature gauge wires and put in a universal digital gauge at PEP BOYS? 2.) Can I measure the temperature gauge using an ohm meter by REMOVING the fuse to the temperature gauge? 3.) Whats the Normal Operating temperature measured value the car should be at while idling and running? what is the temperature degree number at normal operating temperature the car should be at normally?
Hi. I live in tropical country. I have sometime (not always) problem with overheating of engine when in traffic or in stand still. This happen like around 10 time in a year. Some information as follows: - the car is Isuzu Alterra diesel engine with clutch fan - the radiator cap is ok - radiator unit is new (i use the original radiator) - radiator level is ok. - no radiator leak. I never top off the radiator fluid. - i use fully coolant fluid - no plastic blocking the front of the radiator - air condition fan unit is working (it switch on and off) - when no engine over heat, the air con give cool air - air con evaporator unit is clean (new cabin filter) - clutch fan seem to work because i check the RPM (with non contact rpm tester/tachometer). The tachometer RPM at tester unit show same as the RPM at the car Gauge tachometer. Clutch fan is not easy to rotate when engine is at operating temperature. Clutch fan spin more freely when engine temp is cool. When engine overheat, the aircon blow hot air as well One time, when engine overheat, i switch OFF the air-con unit, slowly the engine temperature go down to normal engine temperature. May i ask for your recommendation why my car sometime overheat when in traffic.
You need to get out of the vehicle and check the fan when it tries to overheat. Not sure if the fan it two speed or one but you need to verify that it is working.
@@RobertDIY Hi. When engine temperature start to go up and hot air blowing out the air con vent, i did go out from the car and look and check the fan in front of the condenser unit and the fan is working. The fan has only one speed (high speed). Hope for your other recommendation.
Great video. I have a 02 bmw 5 series and it keeps over heating when going slow in traffic also very white smoke is coming out of the exhaust when cold start. My question is will a bad head gasket cause my engine to overheat? Because I already changed all the cooling components.
My coolant reservoir on my 2000 BMW 323i exploded in New Orleans it was so hot that day.. I JB welded it and hair dried it fast for emergency by some people that wanted to help me in the neighborhood.. and I had a ways to get back towards home and I believe I blew the head gasket the car stopped and everything again and had to push it the rest of the way with some friends. I may try to put some blue devil or something in it as a last resort. thank you for your video
Don't go to ur grave with the good to know information u have, pass it to others n let's all live happily around this machines, thanks a lot bro, God bless u with many more information to share, thank you. From south africa 😁
Very well explained. I was hoping you could do a video on "Diagnosing a bad fan clutch" since I as well as many of the comments seem to be experiencing similar issues with overheating.
I'm a woman who has not one clue about a car. This was explained so good. Everything you've said my brother said but I'm kind of wondering if my head gasket is really blown because the water or oil have not start mixing. But all the water is leaving the car and coming out the back pipeline of my car. Please explain.
Hello Robert, thanks for the video. I am having overheating problems with my bmw e46 . I suspected a leak on the pipes and also the head tester appeared to be yellow.... Please I want to know if is the coolant leak causing the overheating or if my head gasket is actually blown.... because I am actually in doubt of the head tester results. Thank you.
I have a 09 charger 3.5 V6 The water pump is inside the engine. How can I tell if I have a bad water pump and there is "no" water in the oil? Awesome video. Thanks so much.
In one minute you have said more than all the other videos. Im sick of narcistic people trying to be celebrities. You allow your hands to have the attention, they must feel special. Any way good job, You will do well. keep making good videos.
Thanks for the video. Sir i have a concern, while i was driving and i catch 155km/h my car temp went one line before the last line of temp. And i reduced the speed on 100-110 km/h and turned on the heater on max, the temp get back to the normal but when i tried again to catch the highest speed temp went again same!!
My granddad corolla (2003) temperature gauge went up when I drove it uphill on a bridge on a busy highway and did it one day when I warmed the car up on a cold winter morning
Hi Robert DYI! Great videos! I have puddles of water on both sides of front passenger & driver side of my SUV, I do have sunroof as well. Any idea what's causing it? the water doesn't have a smell. thanks so much!
Hi & thank you. it doesn't seem to be oily, the coolant is good which was refilled a couple days ago. it doesn't seem to disappear. how can I check clogging? thanks again
My car overheats on highway after 20-25 minutes i open the fan because i made a switch for it.I have the fan open all day i dont have pressure on the turbo and the car still overheats. If i hit the gas pedal with some turbo boost the motor just heats up immediatly. No leaks brand new head gasket dont know what is wrong.I dont use any oil cooler or the standard.Maybe i think the radiator needs replace since its 30 years old but it looks fine,,,I have Renault 5 Gt turbo Thanks!
yeah I have a 2001 Ford F150 I went underneath the truck to change the oil and look on the crank pulley in water underneath the crank pulley dripping between the crank pulley and the engine block. my temperature gauge will be normal and go up and go down
I have a 96 firebird, and the previous owner made the chilling fans manual. There is a on and off switch that lets me turn them on whenever. Also I tried replacing the thermostat, but I noticed there was no thermostat in the housing! Also I noticed that there was a little corrosion going on inside the radiator top where you pour in coolant. The gauge needle also takes a while to read operating temperature, I don't know what the problem is, do I need a new radiator? Please help!
So i blew a hose due to faulty clamp..it did overheat..now is it ruined it ran about 10 minutes till i got home...started it today and it sounds normal...would i hear anything different if i cracked it or blew a hg
Please help. I have no other way to get a car. I have a 2004 Suzuki xl 7. It's been a real good car. I've had it 8 years. Ten days ago, my reservoir suddenly boiled over I was driving into a parking spot. Maybe exploded because the reservoir tube disconnected. Could this be exhaust gases doing that? It overheated two other times but I stopped it right away. The car did not show any other signs of a blown head gasket. The parts and labor are ridiculously expensive. I have a mechanic appt tomorrow. The memorial weekend had everyone booked up.
Hi Robert, is it possible that the thermostat could be located at the bottom hose on a 2013 Nissan Sentra? Sure looks like it,housing and all. The top just doesn't look right.
ROBERT DIY;; I don't know how to test the temperature sending unit or where its at in cars. I'm not sure if the sending unit means a sensor. 1.) How do you test or what do you use to test the temperature sending unit? 2.) Can I buy a digital gauge at PEP BOYS and install it in the fuse box wires by slicing the wires to test if the analog temperature gauge in the car dash temp gauge is reading false reading measurements of the temperature? 3.) Can you make a youtube video showing how to test the car dash gauges to see if they work correctly and not reading false readings and how to test the sending units to the cars gauges? 4.) I don't know how to test the cars gas gauge, oil gauge, temperature gauge using a ohm meter or what other test tool can I use to test these gauges are working correctly and not giving false reading or not working correctly?
i think this can be a key question? if the coolant reservoir smells like gasoline from the inside after the engine being cooled can that be cause of a blown headgasket??? realy need to know some tell me
Huh? Gas in the coolant? Never heard that one. You may want to get that checked out. If you have a car that routs coolant in the intake manifold, and you have a fuel injector leak that gets in the bad gasket, I guess it is possible.
Please what can you say about a bad radiator cap. Had an ugly experience where the radiator cap was bad and causing overfilling of the overflow can. This caused most of the coolant to be lost and finally generated overheating of the engine.
Hi, I found your video very insightful I have a 2013 Chrysler 200 lx 2.4 lt. Engine. Got my oil changed and fluids topped off 3 weeks ago and my car all of a sudden started to over heat this past week, do you think I might have air trapped somewhere from them putting new fluid in or do you think it's a thermostat? Should I take it back to meineke and have them look at it since they serviced it 3weeks ago my car has never done this before after getting an oil change. Thank you for any help
I loved your video and was wondering if you could help me. My car is a Nissan Altima 2001 and I just changed the water pump and the thermostat. The water pump was leaking so I decide to change both things. before I did that the temperature gauge inside was working fine but now is going all the way up to the H showing that the car is over heating but the engine itself is not over heating. I checked with one of those scanners and the temperature goes to about 140 F degrees and a 154 F degrees. I checked the gauge sensor and it seems to be working right. I Do not know what else could it be. I do not know what the operating temperature of this car is. How can I find out What the problem is? I will appreciate very much if you give me a hand with this problem.
@@RobertDIY It goes to the normal half way and then slowly goes to three quarter and stay there for a while and then it goes to hot slowly after that it fluctuates between 3/4 and hot.
I've got a question..when I've driven my car and as I stop or have it on "standby" it starts to overheat, the temperature gauge rises but as soon as I drive again..the temperature gauge lowers back down. It happens irregulary, more often when the weather is hot. Why? Also my car's engine coolant has this orange leaking stain on it (around the cap). I'm not so good with internal systems of cars so I don't know what precisely is wrong or what I need to look into.
Is the level in the radiator or coolant reservoir good? My guess would be that the radiator fan is NOT working. But you really should get that checked out before you blow the engine.
my head gasket was completly fine! coolant system wasnt working so engine overheated. removed head and had it checked. if your head is warped, you can still get same symptoms of a blown gasket.
yes i understand it still failed. i just had no holes or any damage to the gasket itself. of course itll be replaced. and my only symptom was overpressurized coolant system. (exhaust leak)
Thank Robert, learn a lot from your video. liked and subscribed. I have an 88 volvo 740 recently having smoke coming out thru the front grill after 30 minutes driving or idle in traffic, is this smoke from bad/leaky radiator ? once i opened the hood with engine running and the fan running too, there was no smoke visible around engine block or near the radiator. I did smell something burning near the radiator. Temperature gauge on dash was at normal range. I have OEM radiator, thermostat and connecting hoses on order. if I drive for few short distance city trips until parts arrived, will i have my car engine over heated or damage my engine ? based on what i described, is my coolant pump still ok ? thanks in advance.
Hi robert, my car over heat pass the middle that's when the cooling fan turn on a little bit to late i think never had happend this on this car i jus put a new temperature fan swith like two months ago everything was working ok but now this problem comes, what could be the problem maybe the temperature switch is malfuntioning should I buy the original from the dealer the one i bought is after market, please help me with this, please hel me, thank you.

Doesn't sound like a good solution.
No, a thermostat is NOT connected to the fan. The thermostat is a spring, the fan is an electric motor.
Are you trolling me? Do you have an issue?

+InnerBrownProduction Also replaced water pump 2 years ago. Also I have a 2002 Hyundai accent 2002
+InnerBrownProduction After watching the video, why do you think it's overheating?
+Robert DIY I'm feeling the thermostat after getting the car up to temp the top hose is really hot and bottom weirdly cold.
That did NOT answer my question. You can NOT feel the thermostat. Did my video say anything about feeling?
Just so you know, I'm testing myself not you. I want to make a video that helps people, not confuse them. I'm pretty sure my video did not tell you to take oil and put fire under it. But I do want to know if it is helpful.
Very comprehensive diagnosis much appreciated. I just flushed the radiator out bc the coolant was very low and what was left was rusty coolant. The car does not over heat but the engine gets super hot compared to my Honda even way after the car has been in park. I might just get a radiator for her Buick LaCrosse
Johnny Wong A thermostat may be in order as well.
Just always carry a lot of gallons of water or coolant and top off often until you can afford the repairs.
+Aspie Otaku coolant roulette, bad game to play.
That is when bars headgasket repair comes in handy.
the tempature goes back to normal wen I'm at a stop aswell any ideas of wat it can be
that looks like a engine...
You may be right.
no way! I didn’t know...
What would really suck, is if the overheating is a freeze plug issue. Changing the freeze plugs normally require a mechanic to drop the transmission (big bucks). This is why, as you say, it is important to add the right anti-freeze and water mix to prevent that.
Of course, you would notice a coolant leak if that were the issue.
+dragonore2009 most people don't look. I call it coolant roulette.
It's engine god damnit!
Ok, you win.
Robert DIY: lol😂😂😂
A GREAT TEACHER AND KNOWLEDGE!
thanks for the kind words.
Hello Robert, thanks for the elaborate and logical presentation and education. But I have this situation where my 1992 Lexus ES 300 with a replaced 2.5 litre engine, it's over heating at a higher speed only and remains ok in low rev and regular city.
Water pump is probably bad. Maybe the coolant and thermostat as well.
Ur The Man bro.thank you for this video.u went threw it all about the heating.ur the best video I ever seen.u fixed my car.thank you
You are welcome.
ROBERT DIY,
The temperature gauge in the dash board says the car is overheating, So I'm not sure if its giving false readings.
Assume it's giving the correct reading.
Hi. I live in tropical country. I have sometime (not always) problem with overheating of engine when in traffic or in stand still. This happen like around 10 time in a year.
Some information as follows:
- the car is Isuzu Alterra diesel engine with clutch fan
- the radiator cap is ok
- radiator unit is new (i use the original radiator)
- radiator level is ok.
- no radiator leak. I never top off the radiator fluid.
- i use fully coolant fluid
- no plastic blocking the front of the radiator
- air condition fan unit is working (it switch on and off)
- when no engine over heat, the air con give cool air
- air con evaporator unit is clean (new cabin filter)
- clutch fan seem to work because i check the RPM (with non contact rpm tester/tachometer). The tachometer RPM at tester unit show same as the RPM at the car Gauge tachometer. Clutch fan is not easy to rotate when engine is at operating temperature. Clutch fan spin more freely when engine temp is cool.
When engine overheat, the aircon blow hot air as well
One time, when engine overheat, i switch OFF the air-con unit, slowly the engine temperature go down to normal engine temperature.
May i ask for your recommendation why my car sometime overheat when in traffic.
You need to get out of the vehicle and check the fan when it tries to overheat. Not sure if the fan it two speed or one but you need to verify that it is working.
@@RobertDIY
Hi. When engine temperature start to go up and hot air blowing out the air con vent, i did go out from the car and look and check the fan in front of the condenser unit and the fan is working. The fan has only one speed (high speed).
Hope for your other recommendation.
Awesome explanation Robert! 👍😀
You are welcome
Great video. I have a 02 bmw 5 series and it keeps over heating when going slow in traffic also very white smoke is coming out of the exhaust when cold start. My question is will a bad head gasket cause my engine to overheat? Because I already changed all the cooling components.
Is the fan working?
Robert DIY how do I check if it works or not?
When it gets hot, see if the fan is running.
Robert DIY ok thank you for answering I’ll try tomorrow morning !
I may try to put some blue devil or something in it as a last resort. thank you for your video
thanks for watching.
Don't go to ur grave with the good to know information u have, pass it to others n let's all live happily around this machines, thanks a lot bro, God bless u with many more information to share, thank you. From south africa
😁
You are welcome. I receive the blessing. 😇
Very well explained. I was hoping you could do a video on "Diagnosing a bad fan clutch" since I as well as many of the comments seem to be experiencing similar issues with overheating.
Fan clutch? Most of these cars have electric fans.
Very true, and thank you. Yes I was referring to vehicles with fan clutches. We have a Jeep
I'm a woman who has not one clue about a car. This was explained so good. Everything you've said my brother said but I'm kind of wondering if my head gasket is really blown because the water or oil have not start mixing. But all the water is leaving the car and coming out the back pipeline of my car. Please explain.
If you know where water is coming out, fix that leak and see what happens.
Check upper lower radiator hoses, and heater hoses. Heater Core make sure not clogged, might have to flush it.
How would they get clogged?
I'm trying to learn more about the fuse pertinent to air pump...and the air pumps whole role
Cool
Hello Robert, thanks for the video. I am having overheating problems with my bmw e46 . I suspected a leak on the pipes and also the head tester appeared to be yellow.... Please I want to know if is the coolant leak causing the overheating or if my head gasket is actually blown.... because I am actually in doubt of the head tester results. Thank you.
Man, I didn't test it so I don't know. A coolant leak won't cause the vehicle to overheat but low coolant level will.
I have a 09 charger 3.5 V6
The water pump is inside the engine.
How can I tell if I have a bad water pump and there is "no" water in the oil?
Awesome video. Thanks so much.
Usually leaks.
In one minute you have said more than all the other videos. Im sick of narcistic people trying to be celebrities. You allow your hands to have the attention, they must feel special. Any way good job, You will do well. keep making good videos.
+Daniel Madden thanks for watching
Is it true that a blown fuse could cause either of the 2 fans to stop turning correctly as well?
Jessica Patten Yes, or a bad relay.
So, keep the speed down. How old is the water pump? Is the coolant good? Is the grill blocked? Is the radiator full of dirt.
Same condition as your car and I got the solution from this video... Thanks mate
Very well described about car ovheat. Thanks brother.
You are welcome
Thanks Robert just Love the Way you explain even i can understand
Good deal. Sad to see that you are dealing with this.
Is it the same with every car except Volvo?? I have a 02 civic givin me same types if issues??
Ouch!
Thanks for that information about the tap water ..I did that now they say I need a water pump....
+Lakesha Dennard Thanks for watching.
Check water coolant have or not fan motor , thermostat , sensor , water pump .
Interesting.
You are so intelligent and know so much. How did you learn everything?
Mostly experience.
good job u will never lose ur time
+Beny Benydvil thanks for watching.
You made an excellent video that taught me a lot of things. THANKS
You are welcome.
My granddad corolla (2003) temperature gauge went up when I drove it uphill on a bridge on a busy highway and did it one day when I warmed the car up on a cold winter morning
ouch
Robert you r a saint.RESPECT
Thanks for watching.
Very Educative Video. Please share more, may God keep you alive.
thank you very much.
Hi Robert DYI! Great videos! I have puddles of water on both sides of front passenger & driver side of my SUV, I do have sunroof as well. Any idea what's causing it? the water doesn't have a smell. thanks so much!
+Paceables is it oily? Clogged drains can cause it. Is your coolant level dropping?
Hi & thank you. it doesn't seem to be oily, the coolant is good which was refilled a couple days ago. it doesn't seem to disappear. how can I check clogging? thanks again
My car overheats on highway after 20-25 minutes i open the fan because i made a switch for it.I have the fan open all day i dont have pressure on the turbo and the car still overheats. If i hit the gas pedal with some turbo boost the motor just heats up immediatly. No leaks brand new head gasket dont know what is wrong.I dont use any oil cooler or the standard.Maybe i think the radiator needs replace since its 30 years old but it looks fine,,,I have Renault 5 Gt turbo Thanks!
yeah I have a 2001 Ford F150 I went underneath the truck to change the oil and look on the crank pulley in water underneath the crank pulley dripping between the crank pulley and the engine block. my temperature gauge will be normal and go up and go down
Thanks for watching.
Great video and explanation. Can't get any better than that. Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it
So i blew a hose due to faulty clamp..it did overheat..now is it ruined it ran about 10 minutes till i got home...started it today and it sounds normal...would i hear anything different if i cracked it or blew a hg
The memorial weekend had everyone booked up.
how can I help you with that?
@@RobertDIY well I took it in today and no diagnosis yet I might hear something tomorrow. I told him to check the engine codes etc.
Please kindly list the ones you are saying about the overheat.i want to hear it clearly
I don't understand your question.
I have an 04 trailblazer and only during the cold weather my coolant gage stays below the thermostat regulating temp and triggers my engine light
+capt421 maybe it's bad.
stuck open thermostat
How Changing the Spark Plug Coils ?? I Have
Fail cylinder 2 Fail .. please advise thank you ..
Did you watch the video?
thank Robert great info and video, keep doing videos on different engine problems.
+Francisco Pinedo thanks for watching.
Hi Robert, is it possible that the thermostat could be located at the bottom hose on a 2013 Nissan Sentra? Sure looks like it,housing and all. The top just doesn't look right.
I guess.
If the water pump was broken like you explained, would there be a specific sound while the vehicle is moving?
+THEQuantumPolkaDots Nope, just the sound of you crying if you overheat the engine.
+Robert DIY well that's true now because it's overheated a few times and I'm pretty sure it's done for.
Very well explained in elaborate.clear voice, clear video and i liked.
Thanks for watching
You tell it straight i like that. But you didn't touch down on one other thing...plugged systems. They're why flushing was invented. Keep it goin bruh
how does a system get plugged? I've never seen it in 40+ years.
Metal fragments from faulty radiator/heater core, stop leak, plugged oil cooler. It's not unheard of by any stretch
Seek out an instructor.
Clear, concise and thorough. Thank you.
You are welcome
Yes I did at every stop light once I take off it temp goes down I notice some water coming out of tail pipe
Ouch.
brilliant thank you - mine is fine on motorway but raises in stop/start traffic. Wish you were my dad or brother as this is really interesting stuff x
Thanks for watching. Does the fan work?
i think this can be a key question? if the coolant reservoir smells like gasoline from the inside after the engine being cooled can that be cause of a blown headgasket??? realy need to know some tell me
Huh? Gas in the coolant? Never heard that one. You may want to get that checked out. If you have a car that routs coolant in the intake manifold, and you have a fuel injector leak that gets in the bad gasket, I guess it is possible.
can the fan clutch cause it to overheat in stop and go traffic
+MrSimba27 yes.
Please what can you say about a bad radiator cap. Had an ugly experience where the radiator cap was bad and causing overfilling of the overflow can. This caused most of the coolant to be lost and finally generated overheating of the engine.
Yes. What kind of car do you have.
Probably not related. If you are not handy have a mechanic look at it before you blow the head gasket.
Does it go up slowly or fast, to HOT?
Huh? A warped head is why the head gasket fails.
yes i understand it still failed. i just had no holes or any damage to the gasket itself. of course itll be replaced. and my only symptom was overpressurized coolant system. (exhaust leak)
and in case anyone wants to know. 98' L6 4.0l head was 12 thousandths of an inch warped
2011 Chevy Malibu LTZ around how much am I looking at if I have a blown head gasket appreciate feedback TIA
I have no idea, call the dealer or local shop.

Thanks for watching.
Thank you for the clarity of your presentation. I am a female, and I was able to follow your information very well.
Thanks for watching.
+Peter Cellphone I can't see what is smoking from here. Next time you see it turn the car off and try to find the source.
Very informative video on the topic. Thanks.
