This is an excellent video. I had just been working on my Ford Windstar SEL van. I cleaned the 3 oxygen sensors that are all located under the van. Oh well, that's life. I noticed that my gas mileage had gone down considerably and knew that it was time 2 clean the sensors again. It is a pain 2 clean them, but I had done this job before. Anyway, I finished cleaning the sensors, started my van and backed down from the ramp that I had put it on. I noticed that my check engine light was on, damn. I looked up on You Tube how 2 reset the Engine light, but really didn't want 2 do this because, this is my car, and I knew that the Engine lite was trying 2 tell me something. The good news is that after watching your video and going over the checklist of potential problems, I realized that I had not cleaned the carbon out of the EGR valve. I cleaned the EGR valve, started my van and the Check Engine light went out on it's own because there were no more problems with my exhaust system. Thanks again 4 your help. Keep up the good work.

I grew up working on my own cars (they were always broken because I was broke) my dad was a mechanic so he'd tell me some things here and there and basically I could do nearly all diagnosis and small parts changing. Well, on a vehicle after 2010 this has been an issue. I needed this reminder of parts that included connections to computers that are crucial. Thanks for putting in the work and sharing it.

Most people jump their cars wrong way. NEVER connect the negative cable to the receiving battery. Rather clip the negative of the jumper cable to the body or metal part of the engine of the receiving car. This will prevent damage to your battery and computer ECU

Hi, You have helped me in the past. Twice in the past two years, my RAV4 V6 had CEL-VSC-4WD lights come on. Code reader said it was ignition coil and sure enough, replacing those coils (D and F) fixed the issue. A few days ago, the lights came on and code reader said it is Coil E, which is hard to get to. So, I found a mobile mechanic who will change those three coils for me that are in the back, under the intake. Appointment on Tuesday.
Today, however, the CEL started flashing. I drove it a total of 4 miles with it flashing and won't drive it again till mechanic looks at it. My question is, is the flashing CEL light related to that coil E being bad? Or will I have a bigger issue to deal with? I don't have my own code reader and can't drive to Auto Zone and don't really know this mechanic and want to have an idea of what is wrong in advance. Thank you!

Take your vehicle to an automotive parts store and have them check it with a diagnostic scanner which they will perform for free. This can give you a big clue as to what’s wrong and what needs to be fixed. You could even ask the automotive parts store if they know of a good trust worthy mechanic. The hourly rate of dealerships is just way too much.

Sometimes the light.goes on because they didn't reattach one
Of the hoses when they did an oil
Change. All they have to do is reattach it..This happened to me twice.

@AmarNathan right move thats hella bad must be leaking or the sensors are bad either way its way cheaper than leaving it like that and potentially destroying the motor.

Good info to know, however, you still need to use a scan tool to get the codes to give you a direction to go towards. As a general rule for me, I will do oil and coolant change, spark plugs, coils, gas cap, belts, thermostat, O2 sensors as general maintenance on a vehicle with over 175000 miles. A shop will charge up to $200 or more nowadays just for diagnostics so I don't mind putting items like this on. Keep in mind just throwing new parts at a problem without knowing what the problem is will get frustrating and expensive. It is getting harder for DIY'ers to work on cars because of computer ECM issues, some parts need to be programmed, do a relearn procedure, etc. But in general... Do your homework, watch lots of UA-cam videos and try to buy a good rated car and maintain it properly.

Be sure to first take your vehicle to an auto parts store and have it checked with a diagnostic scanner which they will perform for free.

number 12 Ambient Air Temperature Sensor faulty. The ambient temperature sensor plays an important role in the overall operation of the AC system. For this reason, if you suspect that your ambient temperature sensor has failed, or is having a problem, have a professional technician, such as one from Your Mechanic
