@@ceeam perhaps it doesn’t come across live on TV but the event itself brings a large turnout to downtown Long Beach for the entire weekend. It’s a good time for the entire community!
Newcomer to motorsport here, trying to learn about this local event. Unfortunately can't make it in person this year, so grateful for your UA-cam coverage.
Thanks for the great coverage. Awesome to see your career growing. Hard work paying off. You deserve it Brother. I think a David Land Podcast would be cool too. !?
i went to long beach for the very first time last september and it was amazing. i don't knwo how many other street circuits are similar to this but i love how you can walk around the entire track while the cars are running. i think it was almost better to have general admission tickets instead of seats because it encouraged me to walk around and see and hear the cars from so many different angles.
I’ve been going there since I was a kid in 1975 the first race was F5000 won by Brian Redman iirc ha. They used to race along Ocean Blvd then hit “Linden Leap” that was amazing. I’m here again this weekend since 2019 great to be back! 🏁
David, your videos keep getting better. Swimming with the Dolphins, good one! Would have liked to have met you at Texas but you got there late. Hoping to see you in person at Road America.
My old home track!!! That’s awesome that you’re visiting this amazing circuit. Enjoy it. Hopefully I’ll see you at my new home track, and the championship finale, at Laguna Seca!
Enjoy your time there... Had moved to Texas a couple years ago, so my trips to Long Beach GP have been paused. Can't wait to go back. It's a great show in person with all the different series running.
The IndyCar paddock pass will get you into the IndyCar garage or paddock. Go early and see the teams working on the cars up close. You may also get the chance to meet some drivers and team members, especially on a Friday. If you really want a close up look at the cars, watch them as they wheel them out to the track before practise or qualifying.
Advice: go both Fri & Sat, there are a lot fewer people and you can access all spectator areas. Not only enjoy experiencing the IndyCars but all the on-track competition vehicles from many vantage points, but from thy determine what spot you want to watch the entire race from & get there early to secure good seating on Sunday. Also, bring a good hat, chapstick, a light colored bandana, very good sunglasses and LOTS of water. Wear a long sleeve white shirt each day, and good walking shoes. Definitely go see the expo areas too. Oh and time a crossing of the pedestrian bride down by turn one when the Corvettes pass by. It's a thrill you will not forget. (PS the years I went the Corvettes were hitting 201 mph before their massive deceleration for turn 1, but were something like 5 seconds a lap slower than the IndyCars due to corner speed. ENJOY!
Glad you made it out to LB! The last year was the first year that I got to work the race. Here's a couple bits of advice. Watch your equipment closely in the media center. Every year stuff gets stolen out of there. All it takes is a turn of your back. Last year a DSLR and long lens got swiped out of the main press room. Also, if you want to hear something funny, during the IMSA race, go out behind behind the theater and listen to all of the car alarms going off from the exhaust reverb in the parking garage against the opposite side of the track! Shooting from the Hair Pin was one of the things on my Bucket List that I got to check-off. It's a hoot... but it's too bad that NBC has now ruined the wide shot there with that camera tower they've erected on the inside! I see from your video that they're doing it again this year.
I've only been to one street course race (and that was last year in Nashville), have never been a street course fan EXCEPT for Long Beach. With nearly a fifty-year history it is definitely on my "must see" race each year. Speaking of Nashville, how about Marcus Erickson's flight to win last year... I'm thinking he's going to win at Long Beach. Go CGR #8!!
Free Friday was my go to last two years covid. This year on fri 91 degrees on the beach no way am I hiking around in this weather drinking water for 4.50 a bottle forget it . General admission for sat is 87.00 to much but it’s 15 degrees cooler tomorrow.
My favorite part of this track is the front straight. Cueves Ever so slightly with a tiny kink in the middle. It also has a slight banking which is the cherry on top. The perfect place for an IndyCar. I can only imagine what that would feel like.
Formula drift was great last week. I think there’s 5 different tyre manufacturers worth of rubber laid down there. None of which are Firestone or Michelin so we’ll see how that goes. FD are there the week before indycar every year though so there shouldn’t be too many surprises
David, back in the F1 days the Le Gasomet hairpin was a little bit further along the path then what has been used in the CART days to present time. Any chance to show what that area looks like now, or determine why that corner was reduced/shortened since 1984?
Things I'm looking for: Will KK have a trouble-free race with a strong finish? Will we have an underdog (not Penske/Ganassi) winner? Will JJ have a stronger pace here after his first oval showing? Could Calderon also improve?
Hey, what's the thing I here about F1 having another pit lane rule change? Something about cutting three people from the men over the wall? Or was that just a rumor?
There should great races this weekend with IMSA and IndyCar since Long Beach never disappoints. Long Beach is one of my favorite races on the calendar. My prediction for this race is Alexander Rossi will finish 26th dead last. Great racing weekend with NASCAR @ Martinsville (Truck, Xfinity, and Cup), IndyCar-IMSA doubleheader @ Long Beach, F1 @ Australia, MotoGP @ COTA, and Supercross @ St. Louis though.
Love the mix of history in this one. Jealous you get to see the race in person! maybe ill have to do Indy again this year...
You better come to Indy!
This video brought to you by: pure passion
Well said. "Love what you do and call it work" is a great philosophy to take to your "office" daily. It's great that DL is getting to do that.
From Formula 1 to Indycar...The Long Beach Grand Prix always puts on a great show. Love Long Beach.
"The Long Beach Grand Prix always puts on a great show" - actually a great show is kinda rare here.
@@ceeam perhaps it doesn’t come across live on TV but the event itself brings a large turnout to downtown Long Beach for the entire weekend. It’s a good time for the entire community!
@@ceeam Definitely puts on a great show in person
Love the old footage
Dude, what I like about this track walk is that your graphic reminds me of the old ABC Sports graphics package from 1995/96

100% accurate...grandstands get uncomfortable real fast. Walking around to different corners with different series running is the right play.

David thanks for traveling and making this content. You are way better than any of the big broadcasts!
The fountain part is the most narrow
What an awesome tour around this iconic track, of which i'm a fan since Niki Lauda's smart win in 1982....
Welcome to Long Beach David!
Awesome video! Adding throwback clips in there was really good
I’ll be there Saturday and Sunday…if I see you I’ll buy you a beer David. Thanks for the great content!

Great coverage David! You have the best job and I know me and all the viewers enjoy this coverage.
Excellent presentation!!
Thanks David!
Whaaaaaa...?? you're in SoCali?!?!?!? Welcome to the HEATWAVE!!!
Welcome to Long Beach! I look forward to seeing your experience in Long Beach for the first time. I hope to say hello if I bump into you this weekend.
Great intro and prep, love the history shots. This is a great video, even if you need do it again, this is so good stuff
CART/Champ Car races were great back in the day
Killing it! Awesome video
Yo, this is gonna be my first indycar race I ever go to? Got any advice and what exactly does a paddock pass do
The pass will allow you to get closer to the garage areas.
Also, definitely check out the car expo and the Super Trucks!
May need ear protection. But paddock pass is awesome. Be in turn 1 for start.
Stay for the IMSA racing

I’m so excited for Sunday
My local race 😁
I bet David enjoys the heat
I hope he remembered to pack a hat and SPF 50!
@@TheRSTD1 Well no hat, I think he forgot sunscreen like usual
Copious amounts of spf50 applied before this video!

David shows the Pato clip from last year "why must you hurt me like this". Great video as always.
thats what I thought name was rock and roll. been long time.

Will be there all weekend and in the pits Tomorrow and Saturday
Get more track breakdowns!
Two moments i always remember, Danny Sullivan taking Al jr. Out 92'
Nelson piquet first win and last fittipaldi podium in f1 80'

Fantastic track walk! Better than Dario's in Formula E, for example.
He said ed Jones whipped and nae naed Pato 🤣🤣🤣
hope everyone has a safe weekend! hope to see yall there Friday- Saturday!
To hot fri. Sat to expensive
great info! Thanks dude!!
Go stand on turn 1 when the cars get going. It's amazing. Don't get stuck like all the reporters do, in the pits. Walk all around
Free tickets for Friday at the gate.

Yeah, but not really. Nope. Nope. Nope. On to Barber.
Dude the only place to go in LB is Joe Jost. 🍺 🥜 🥚

hot in the shade
Try Lee's sandwiches. Great Bahn Mi's. The coffee will fuck you up tho, in a good way.
