  • The weekend of April 20th 2008 was a big one for IndyCar. Two races on the same day, one in Motegi Japan, and the other in Long Beach California. Both races made IndyCar history, but in this video we focus on Danica Patrick's big win in Japan.

    Fuel mileage wins are weird. I get people giving her flack for it. But at the same time if you watched how she did it, she knew from the start of the stint she had to conserve. It's hard as a racing driver to convince yourself to get passed and stay driving slower than you know you can go. She did it and saved at the right time in the right places to where she could run faster at the end of the race than Castroneves and was able to save more than the rest of those on the same strategy. I give her credit for it. It wasn't everyone else's miscalculation giving her the win. It was her being one of the only ones willing to do what was necessary for the long haul to make it work.

      Racing isn't all about being the fastest for the entire race, it's about thinking spatially and being able to comprehend and calculate the factors of the entire race with your team while you are in the car. There's nothing illegitimate about her win at all. She did what other drivers didn't think to do, and that allowed her to take the flag first. It doesn't matter how you got there, it's getting there that counts and she did.

Also her 3rd place in 2009 was very impressive!

When CART went bankrupt in 2003, Tony George tried to buy the series, but the bankruptcy judge let Gerry Forsythe, Kevin Kalkhoven, and that trash human Paul Gentillozzi buy the series for less money to limp it on until reunification where if both parties didn't declare a truce, Champ Car was going to die.

  • @jasonrogers9169

    Racing is not always about going fast. Well I mean it is but strategy comes to play also and it takes a team to win a race and not just the driver. Gotta build competitive cars and have flawless pit crews,crew chief,spotters and one mistake by anyone is the difference between winning and losing. I remember her leading the Indy 500 with two laps to go and she ran out of gas. So how ever you look at it the entire team beat everyone else's entire team to win the race. She wasn't conserving fuel at the end of the race! she was racing. Everyone else made a mistake and lost the race.

    It was a good win, but memorable only because she was the first woman to win a top-tier racing event. Had Hideki Mutoh or anyone else won it would be forgotten.
    Danica was a decent driver on a good team. She always had good pace and a good pit crew and could run with the leaders, and she had very few DNFs, but she would inevitably be the first to brake when challenged into a corner. That's why Dixon, Castroneves, Franchitti, and Wheldon were the dominant drivers of the era. What success she had came more from pace and strategy than bold driving.

    • @C3rb3ruS_88
      @C3rb3ruS_88 Рік тому

      True, but not completely. Watch Michigan 2007, Texas and Homestead 2010, just to name a few. She was more than willing to race aggressively among those drivers, but she had to have total confidence in the setup in order to do that. Her comfort window was just too narrow. This was her biggest hindrance which kept her from winning more races.
