    I checked out Marshall at the 2025 NAMM show and they had some cool stuff like the new modified series of amps with the modded Plexi and JCM800 but I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why Marshall hasn't released anything digital, anything like the Tonemasters from fender.... in a pedal form or plug in or anything!

    If Marshall, Fender and Vox actually ran their companies properly, there wouldn’t be other amp companies. They literally invented 90% of the tones everyone uses to this day. If it wasn’t for their incompetence, other companies wouldn’t exist.

      I’m not that worried about amp companies since digital came about. However, Gibson can crumble down to the ground and go bankrupt as far as I’m concerned.

      I feel like those companies have run their course. When they start, it's "build it like we'd want it" then they become successful, gain investors, and the bean counters take over and it becomes "make it for less".

    I've put together 18 pedal boards based around various "budget" drive pedals. The ones that I believe have nailed the vintage sound are the $40 JOYO "Sound" pedals. I have a bunch of them. I love them.

    Marshall is going through it now, after Terry Marshall and family sold the legendary amp manufacture to Zounds almost two years ago, (retaining 20% of the company), they have now been sold again.
    HongShan Capitol Group, a Hong Kong based private equity company, purchased Marshall a few weeks ago for $1.15 billion. Who knows what's in store for Marshall going forward.

    I’ve always questioned the place of FRFR cabs in the market, I owned a Kemper cab and liked it, but at home I always preferred playing thru my monitors and the gigs I played at the time were silent stage. Now I play gigs where I can use amps on stage and I think theres no FRFR that can sound as good as a real cab. The best solution, again in my opinion, is send a direct signal from your modeler or profiler with IR to FOH and send a signal without IR to a power amp to power a cab on stage. No FRFR will sound like that.

      Wait for Peavey's Musician amp that should be out this summer. It's a dual channel 12" tube amp. Channel 1 is guitar/instrument input while Channel 2 is a line level input for modeler's. So instead of 4 cable or plugging in to the return of the effects loop, you can switch between channels. Channel 2 uses the tube driven power amp . Thomman's did a NAMM Peavey video and they spoke about it while briefly showing it.

    That was my exact reaction to the pedals too, seems like such a date idea, it's been done so many times already and most people would make more use off the UA Lion. They should be making their own version of the Lion or the IRX etc with the Marshall name on it.

  • @Pdbottleneck
    @Pdbottleneck 6 днів тому +2

    Within 2-3 months of trying one for the first time, I acquired the Lion, Enigmatic, Dream, plus a Max preamp/compressor. Honestly I’ve never even tried other modelers like Kemper, HX, Tonex, etc. But I’m so impressed with the UA stuff. It’s been really fun and the mobile app could definitely use some attention on their end but it’s not prohibitive for me practicing at home
    Edit- I use the fender frfr 12 with them

    If Fender gave me a Princeton pedal with two or three IR options to switch between and a black or silver face aesthetic to the pedal, I would be throwing money at that. Marshall's competitive advantage at this point isn't technology - it is their brand on a cabinet or amp on stage. That is why the Fender Tonemaster amps are such a success... they solve many problems - sound great, are lightweight, direct out, no maintenance, but more importantly they look the part. They stay true to the aesthetic of a classic design that we've seen throughout rock history.

    Since 1980 Jim Marshall never cared what players wanted. You think we asked him to change the JMP and stop making it? You think we asked him to change the JTM-45?? Marshall has NEVER cared what players want. In the 80s nobody asked for the JCM800 or the JMP-1 Rack Preamp. We didnt ask for the JCM900 and we sure as fuck didnt ask for the Mode 4! Marshall has been so out of touch with the market that Friedman hes become one of the biggest amp companies in the world. All Marshall had to do was re-issue the JMP then do a Modded Version with the extra gain stage. There would be literally NO Marshall clones out there, the only reason we play Soldano, Friedman, Metropolus, or any other boutique amp make is because Marshall never made them. They are coming to the party too late once again. Its AMAZING to me how they are still in business.

  • @Twominutedevotions
    @Twominutedevotions 6 днів тому

    The 90s Marshall made a product called the direct recording preamp which was basically a JCM 900 preamp in a in a desktop pedal format. They need to make that with a professionally shot Marshall impulse response foot switch and on board 15 DB boost before the preamp And it would be their best selling product by far especially if they could get in around 200 bucks.

    Every brand is putting out there their amp in a box thing, the new marshall pedals are just their new modern take on that and i think it will sell a LOT.
    Nobody wants the digital crap anymore....so the new modded classic amps are a fantastic take.
    The brand needed cash, now it's got it, new products will come up sooner than you can expect, what they are doing with this new series is music to my ears!

    These kids without big budgets are going to buy a cheap modeller/profiler dude, they're gonna buy a ToneX one, or a Sonicake Matribox II or something affordable like that. Then they'll get their parents to buy a cheap FRFR for jamming, and it's all gonna be way cheaper than buying amp stuff.
    Marshall has to realize amps are dead in the water. They'll be around, but as the main game? Nope. Marshall needs a competitive series of modellers/profilers, and not at an exorbitant price. And they also need more affordable amps that don't suck for the people that really want an amp without huge budgets. Traditionally, everything that was affordable by Marshall pretty much sucked. But you can buy an Orange solid state much much cheaper and it's almost as good as their top of the line Rockerverb stuff. You can't just live off top of the line amps, coz not many people can afford them. Heck, I play in a band, I don't want to look at an amp ever again, I've got a Helix, I've got a Laney 2x12 FRFR, it all cost less than top of the line amp stuff, and it sounds really great. I'm only going to upgrade the modeller at some point, I may even buy a second Laney FRFR 2x12. Guthrie Govan uses two of them.

    I see it as Marshall saying "all these other companies like TC and UA are making preamps including copying or "inspired by" our amps, so we should put out something that rivals it." I do believe there is a market for it, but in agreeance with what you have suggested, it is not that big of a market considering many people already have some type of Marshall in a box pedal or preamp.

    The thing is, everything is some sort of variation of the base of Marshall and Fender. Most are just minor mods. Boutique amps you are going to pay alot for, but they are not overly commercially available. Those amps put together don't do the kind of numbers Fender and Marshall do, same with pedals. The cost to bring that kind of manufacturing is quite difficult. And you are right, Fender/Marshall/Fox/Gibson, they aren't the best with that tech stuff. Could they buy in, what if they fail? It's gonna take a lot to catch up to Helix and the other major players in that space. The Marshall CODE series was not well received, they probably know they have to do better, it's gonna take some time. The Fender Tonemaster series of amps might have sold more units, but only because they were cheaper than their real counterparts. But in comparison with the original amps, the original amps still sound better.
    I also think there's one major issue with the tech stuff, what happens when the stuff gets old? Three iPhones later, now you don't have the app that makes that pedal work? Buy the latest one? Good thing they are cheap but why not buy one Marshall/Gibson/Fender, you can get it serviced. They can have a long life. Marshall's line out with the Studio 900 says, use any loadbox/IR boxes that everyone seems to have, let them deal with all that tech issues. These tech stuff burn out fast, they are obsolete in a year.

    I would pay 500 euros for the Softube-Marshall amp in a box pedal if it would only have 1 amp model and 2 cabs. I paid 400 euros for the Dream '65 pedal, and I think it's worth it and it's really, really good. I'm a simple guy, I don't need 20 amps. One amp, two cabs. Left and right. That's it.

    I think Marshall needs to come up with a platform a like Fractal. But sepperate the hardware from the software. Make the hardware cabable of loading other manufacturers software plus NAM adoption. That will put software standardization in thier hands if they can set themselfs as the benchmark. So what Im saying if another company wants to put thier OS on a Marshall platform they will need to conform it to the hardware.
