      I personally reckon most of the hype around high end guitars is just marketing. They need to convince you they're prestige and elite to get you to part with your money! Lol

    • @joerobertson795
      @joerobertson795 9 годин тому

      @@noodle845 There is a significant difference in the quality of materials and amount of handwork on higher end guitars than import CNC factory line guitars. There is also much more QC along the manufacturing process (unless it's a Gibson, then it's a 50/50 shot these days).
      Think of guitars like cars: Just because a Mercedes-Benz is made of better steel and upholstery and was hand checked by dozens of Dieters with Micrometers at every step of the manufacturing process does not mean a Honda Accord is in any way a bad car. The Accord is one that will last and it will hold value as a "Really Good Car" for the next 20 years at a much lower price point.
      Even some of the $200-300 guitars on Amazon are exceptional instruments these days. I remember when "cheap" guitars were always complete shit. Now I am amazed at some of the cheap stuff that crosses my bench.
      Cheers!

    • @noodle845
      @noodle845 8 годин тому

      @joerobertson795 yeah I just think when you get to a certain price point, it becomes diminishing returns. I reckon if you paid £500-£600 you'd get a bloody good guitar that can do most of what the 2 or 3k ones will do. Or you could get an andertons special and upgrade the bits!

    • @joerobertson795

    I tried a Les Paul years ago and being a Fender sort of a chap for donkeys years, I hated it, however a few months back I decided to try again and bought an East Coast Gold Top LP shaped object, it was by far the best set up guitar, out of the box, Ive ever had, regardless of cost and brand, of course I sold it and bought a proper one. The Captain said that when they commissioned the East Coast brand, that they spent an extra 10 dollars on fit, finish and setup compared to the other budget brands, this has clearly paid off.
    God only knows how they can sell a Strat for 99 quid mailed, loss leaders I guess…

      That's an interesting bit of info about the extra $10 spent by Andertons, it shows that you can specify levels of 'cheapness' from those factories. Shrewd move by Andertons. They're not the only shop that sells Eastcoast in the UK so I wonder what level the other vendors selected?

    To answer your questions raised on an earlier video, no, I don't build guitars, but I do play, if you include bass guitars.
    I have been looking forward to this one, Andertons is local to me and I have watched two videos where acclaimed players have raved about them. In an in house video, The Captain modded one, all he did was to change the strings. He explained his desire behind the design and construction, to achieve a good standard at a value for money price. There is no such thing as a cheap guitar! There are guitars you enjoy to play, and there are guitars you don't.
    I got a used Ibanez S420 about 8 years ago for a little less than 150 E. It was all wrong when I got it (neck angle, etc, etc). I shimmed the neck angle with guitar picks (yes I did), adjusted everything, gave it a nice fret leveling and fret polish to shine ... and it's been one of my favorite guitars ever since. It plays like a dream, it stays in perfect tune (Ibanez Edge-Zero trem+locking nut), it's super super light, and it sounds great with its 2 humbuckers ... I still don't understand how it works but, with the 5 position switch, on the 4th position up, it's got one greatest single coil tone, and it's still "hum-cancelling" on that position, I don't know what combination of coils it activates, and it sounds just like a Strat neck pickup ... and so, I have the fat humbucker tones and 1 single coil tone in one "mystery guitar" that I got online and came out the mail.
    You never know!
    Hey man, great video, as usual!

    Brilliant review. You're spot on, IMO when you say for a $99 guitar it's irrelevant what wood it's made from. The most important thing is how playable it is straight out of the box. Lee Anderton has the right idea--if he can provide a playable instrument to beginners, they're more likely to stick with it. An additional benefit is that he's potentially creating a customer for life, too. Cheers!

    I fancied going electric and was looking for a tele kit.Watching the Anderton's BtoB of 5 Teles, the East Coast came in very high on the blind test behind US models. 24 hours after pressing the buy button a cream coloured EC plopped through the letter box for £105 inc postage. It was great straight out of the box. I have done some customising on it, just because I can, but it is a great, No problems with the set up whatsoever. Pickups and machine heads adequate, but can easily be upgraded.

    Only found your channel by accident recently and love the honest DGAF attitude. Specially the reviews. Not surprised at East Coast being so good. Bought a Squire FSR Strat in Pete's Purple form Andertons and that was about as good quality wise. Put the £900 Epiphone Prophecy to shame which had sharp frets ends and buzzing so was the first guitar I had a go at fixing myself.

    Not bad sounds for a cheap guitar. I completely agree. The Amp is most important.

    I’ve been subbed and watching your videos for some time now and I enjoy them. Excellent work. Based upon your review of the Strat and the price, Ive just ordered a Tele from East Coast. I figured its worth a punt. So, thank you. (Chucked a tenner in your JustGiving page too - best of luck mate :-)
