Hey HJ, have you seen about this new Tonex computer interface coming soon? Would love to get your thoughts on that as it's really exciting for me after finding the current interface, well, okay but a bit discombobulating (I used that word for fun because it is such as mad word lol). Hope you are well, always great to watch your videos in this increasingly mad world to remind me - when I start to lose my faith - that there a good people everywhere who just want to enjoy the beauty of life and appreciate and create beautiful things AND share their joy with the world 😍 All I want to do right now is spend a few weeks playing through all of those classic Fender amps - the wall of them haha - until I am too blissed out to care anymore 😎
@ cause that’s where the guitar “lives” anyway. Eliminates low rumble frequencies and high fizz. Carves out a space for the guitar. Helps it stand out.
I use a wireless so I can go out front at soundchecks and hear what the audience will hear. Then make any adjustments for the room. My monitor always sounds great.
I use a Radial Mix2:1 passive mixer sat on my board. I have an XLR monitor feed from our Church's digital desk, which includes all that I need except my guitar, going into one of the Radial channels. My guitar via my QC goes into the other channel. This gives me total control of my guitar volume and tone in my IEMs and using routing in my QC I can also mute my guitar to the PA but still monitor my guitar myself which I find useful sometimes. It is mono output from the Radial but as my wireless IEM system is mono it doesn't matter. The FOH engineer can do whatever he wants in terms of EQ on my guitar without impacting what I am hearing direct from my QC in my IEMs. Works for me. Simple and straightforward. It also means that if I am playing in an unfamiliar environment I know I will always have my guitar in my ears the way I like it. Our usual sound engineer at church, who is a pro engineer working for a major PA company working with touring bands, loves my tone from the QC.
Wait wait wait... Back it up... Let's talk about this can't hear the reverb thing. The biggest trouble for me switching over to Kemper from line six is I can't quite get the reverb the way I'm used to. I can get close enough to live with it, but I have to use every single trick that you and Sooze ever taught (using the delay reverb mix to modulate the reverb, using two reverbs cirrus with natural, using two delays, etc.)... I hate that it takes away my ability to use the effects knobs because I'm not using things in the slots Kemper predetermined. Every time I try to just use one reverb, I feel like I can't hear any reverb until I hear way too much reverb... Are you saying I should just not worry about it? Do you happen to know why all the standalone reverbs on the Kemper are either not enough mix or too much mix? Can you revisit this in a video and give us an up-to-date how to do reverb on a Kemper or something?
Perfect timing for this video. I run my boss gt1000 at my church. In my ears it sounds ok. But the people out in the audience say my guitar sounds amazing.
Run the unit stereo into the either a tube stereo power amp and into a stereo cab or two cabs OR run it into the back/fx return/power amp in of two tube amps. Have the sound man mic you in stereo….youre welcome! You should also take off the headphone, whatever it is and get used to hearing yourself with the rest of the band. I like it when I can hear myself coming from the mains and not the monitors…it has more of a rehearsal hall feel. But me? Tone Junkie studio profiles with no modifications straight into a tube stereo power amp into a stereo 412 cabinet…and why? Cause that’s the way I like it!
Great suggestions. Thanks. On another note, Tonex is offering a good deal on Tonex Cab preorders. The problem, no one has done a shootout comparing it to the stuff out there like Laney, Headrush, Powercab, etc. There is no way I am buying an unknown without reviewing comparisons and doing as much research as I can. Any chance you might be doing some comparisons in the near future? The preorder deal ends in mid-March.
Great information. Thank you. In my case, one day I stumbled upon the fact that almost any multi effects processor worth its salt has internal global output configuration parameters to switch your processor's output jack[s] from headphone/line and several different amp/cab configurations. Even my budget friendly $200.00 Boss GT-1 has it. It adjusts the output algorithm to correctly compensate for any rig. My Zoom G11 has even more and imho has the most user-friendly GUI in the business compared to the simple albeit very effective Boss GT-1, if you can't afford the Zoom G11 which costs $800.00. Either way your sound will be totally different if you don't apply that when going from say recording using headphones to your live rig, etc. If configured right, and using cab emulation, the Soundman should easily be able match your amps voicing through the PA with just some minor EQ tweaking in most cases.
It helps to remember that your sound within a mix is not going to be your sound in your bedroom. You have to fit. The solution, if possible, is to have only yourself and what you need - drums, lead vox - to follow in your monitor mix, or set your own monitor.
i do have some use problems...i have mi tonex ok, but when i go to the deluxe reverb its too thin and trebly. also very DIFFERENT in the volumen of the presets (i also see the video about that) but... also i hear a high z hum in the line (i have a filtered ac power0
This is a digression, I totally understand the argument being made. I’m not against digital anything. Things change, and I get it. I play out with an AC-30 and so much of my sound is feedback. It’s part of the parts, not just noise for noise (though I love that too!) sake. I’m wondering: can I get reliable and interesting feedback back with this digital stuff? Thanks!

First thing, put a high cut of around 6K and a low cut of around 100hz on your output.

Mamma said don’t slurp lol
Good morning ☀️
Yes. Show us your sound. I'm curious!
Good morning from California. I regularly talk to our sound guy to ask if the front of house sound is serving the worship service better each time.

Good afternoon from the UK
I only play for myself, and that’s painful enough. Lol
Morning from the westcoast
Quinceañera rep here
Annoying
5th !
Good Morning! First
Content fine but when the coffee mug makes it into the thumbnail……
Get off the in ear monitors... use cabs...
And... btw... wtf is a worship tone? You're telling me it's approved by your god?
There is NO Reverb in Hell !!
“Worship tone” is the guitar sound that most all modern Christian church bands use.
