    This further validates your decision to leave 6 figure engineering job/career.👍
    I respect your modesty and openness to share personal wealth information.
    Keep in mind you have far greater autonomy as a content creator than reporting to duty at some engineering firm.
    Isn't your deductions less as self employed than salaried employee?

    • @BeatTheBush
      @BeatTheBush  2 роки тому +8

      You hit it right on the nail. Autonomy is worth about 50% of my salary. That is, I am willing to take a 50% pay cut just so that I don't have to follow orders day in and day out.
      Deductions are by FARRRRR much much more as self-employed. All the equipment I use, all the travel I do, etc are all tax write offs.

    • @hz240
      @hz240 2 роки тому +1

      @@BeatTheBush Certainly better net take home pay as self employed.
      Autonomy allows us to be more creative thinkers too. This is worth more than the high salary of miserable slave job.
      Can you share any thoughts/tips related to investment properties in the surrounding Bay area? I presume most of your investment portfolio is tied to stocks/Cryptos?

    although quality is important, i do think people underestimate the importance of quantity on youtube. every time a video is made, it's like a free play at a slot machine. except you never lose because worst case scenario, the video flops but you've still gained experience and added a new video to the channel's library :D

      Quantity... or consistency? I suppose you still have to try to make a good one and not just random videos.

    Interesting to see the earnings of a mid-sized channel. I think there's an opportunity over the next 1-2 years to get to a million subs. If so, 3x the ad revenue + sponsors could easily put you in the 200-300k a year range. However, it would probably take a lot of grinding...

    Cool Francis. What you say rings true for my channel too. Some odd ball videos do really well and don't make much money. I posted a video of a washing machine bouncing on a trampoline years ago and it was and still is really popular! Lots of my random how-to DIY videos make money, but some of the ones I put time and effort to make don't get much traction.

    @tanzanable 2 роки тому

    Unfortunately, as a self employed UA-cam independent contractor, UA-cam doesn't pay FICA taxes like your engineering employer did so you have to pay 15.3% of your earnings rather than the 7.65% you paid as an employed engineer. Social Security and Medicare FICA taxes take a huge bite out of UA-cam income!

    • @BeatTheBush

      @@BeatTheBush Because you're such a high earner you're paying the maximum FICA tax for your social security. But that means that you can look forward to receiving the maximum SS benefit amount when you retire. Retirees at age 70 claiming SS in 2022 can receive as much as $4124/month or $49,488/year. That income is protected from inflation with an annual COLA! Most private retirement plans are NOT indexed for inflation. Sad.

      I took a look and it appears Walmart in particular has a lot of exclusions. IN order to get the $40, you need to earn a non-zero cash back. You still qualify if you signed up during that bonus period. Hence, if you still want the deal, you could potentially return the item at your local Walmart and get something that does qualify for the cash back. Hope that helps.

    You made your own pension :) Would you have quit engineering job without this income?

    Francis the way I see this,,, you lost OVER 3/4 MILLION DOLLARS in these 7 YEARS.
    And you are smiling? I would be sad.
    (engineer 7 yr x $150T = over 1M$ ... compare UTube $300T in 7 yr. )

      @@tbarbuto2345 Yes Tony, I agree with your very good points.
      But, I get the impression that Francis has a strong interest and love for "$," which is a very good thing. So, it would have been more productive to have figured that out before spending years of his time and a pile of money to become something he did not love/enjoy doing.
      myself,, I choose the US Air Force and fell in love with Airplanes/Aviation. So, I never paid much attention to money. It was hard for me to believe I was paid to do this.
