finally!! been searching for this jewel for a looooong time. Couldn't remember the name of this game. Been playing for a long time at (portable) arcade hall when it was in town. Damn, back in the days it was a very scary sound for me ;-)
Me too!! I spent several hours on paydays (my mom's payday) playing this at an arcade near my mom's job. Later on she joined the arcade and played aracing game called Out Run
This game had "strategic dismember" much before Dead space was a thing. I remember shooting at their legs for "insta-kills" and at the arm they were rising to avoid the hit. That's why I never went pass the third or fourth stage, when the mobs didn't have legs or arms, lol.
Wow, I played this game a few times in the arcade and loved it. The special weapons via the pump action of the gun was great. Thanks for the long play!
To this day, I still feel it's such a cheap final level! Trying to aim at the final boss whilst avoiding the cockpit is about as much fun as pulling teeth!
Shame. A gem that never got the publicity and respect that it deserves. Such captivating art, sound, design and animation. Let alone the title, SPACE GUN
For me it's very haunting because there's just something so disturbing about how those aliens look, I'm not sure if it's the eyes or the fact that they have four arms... there truly is something so fucking demonic about that game over screen, all around, the entire game itself is fucking terrifying for its time. Gotta give these developers credit
I've been searching and looking for this game for a long time and finally found it!! I remember playing this game back in the 90s but forgot the name of it. I remember was you shoot out these blue oval shaped bullets and I remember, the arcade game itself had these two weird looking guns mounted on it and bam!! its Space Gun. At first I thought it was Alien 3 the Gun but not a chance lol. Revolution X, Terminator 2 Judgement Day, Lethal Enforcers 1 and 2, Time Crisis I and II, Space Gun, Alien 3 The Gun, Crime Patrol, Area 51, Maximum Force, Mad Dog McGree, Steel Gunner, so many great legendary gun arcade games from the 90s. I'm going to hook up the MAME later and play this classic.
Well, I don't know if you played this arcade back in the days, but the thing is that the Final Boss at 19:58 is really really difficult! and the main reason is because you don't have to shoot that much to the control desk at the background, so you have to be very precise. The alternate ending that I am mentioning is on 24:35, where you can see that the player conciously shot at the control desk of the shuttle and then explodes. Actually, back in the days, I never saw the true ending, because it was bery difficult to reach that level, and even more difficult do not shoot at the back.
There's a secret ending/gameover if you kill every hostage in one stage. the text goes "The plan of operation has failed, sacrificing the lives of many people..." and the game just ends
I still remember the day this was brought into the local arcade back in the early 90s... kids were crowded around the machine and lining up quarters to play next, I just watched for the first day or two, the atmosphere was creepy as hell back then. Great shooting game!
@@fromdabunka one thing was the sounds, it really captured the feeling of wandering into an abandoned space station overrun with monsters. You could hear the alien's footsteps and seeing them come out of the darkness was pretty scary the first time you saw it in the arcade. It was also pretty advanced from a graphics perspective, at that time there was not many other dark sci fi shooters, the rest were all based on military themes. So the details on the aliens and when their body parts explode it gave it a kind of realistic feeling.
@@dezm101 The sounds must've been loud to have not been drowned out by the surrounding games right? That's super interesting since most survival horror games really rely on silence to induce fear!
One of my absolute, if not The favorite arcade game of mine in the 90’s! A water park I used to frequent had it, and I pumped a lot of my $$ into it every single visit there. It was very much inspired by the Aliens movie, and that being another fav of mine, it was the perfect transition to a game for me. I would Highly consider purchasing it if I found a real working arcade version with the gun if I could find it somewhere. I was just thinking about it and couldn’t remember the name, so did a deep google search to find it. Thanks for posting this!!
Oh man! I remember playing this game in an arcade a long time ago, I was still a boy back then! So glad I've found it here! Thank you for bringing us this fantastic gameplay e for this nostalgic feeling, it made my day!
I used to sweat profusely playing this game when I was a kid! Playing this after watching an alien 2 was a total adrenaline rush for me lol awesome game, and great childhood memories!
I remember seeing this machine at the my old local arcade. The machine was placed right next to Alien 3 The Gun. Back then, i was scared of those two games that i dare not to go near them. I only saw someone else playing it, it was pretty unique since the player steps on the pedal to backtrack momentarily to avoid enemy attack. It took me until many years to play it for the first time. I was glad to do so because my young self would not sit well with the gore
I miss this game from my childhood. Always gave me an Aliens vibe.. as if it was a very Aliens inspired game.. even the transport in the background kinda reminded me of the one in Aliens.
...and you even went back and blew up the escape ship's cockpit just to show us the Bad Ending! Kudos to you! 😆 And if there's anyone who ever managed to beat 'Space Gun' *_without_* reducing the entire cockpit to a nearly destroyed wreck being held together by spit and bubble gum, I'd like to shake his hand! I know I did it more than once.
I had this on PS2 as a kid as part of the "Taito Legends" game. I remember my mom walking in and being freaked out by the violence and how nonchalantly I was playing. good times
Great game, thanks for the game play, perfect blend of action and pseudo horror, with stretches of nothing, then boom was there ever a follow up (sequel) to this game it was left open, as if there were to be one...
Not bad for a _Aliens_ ripoff that was also released the same year that Konami made an video game adaptation of _Aliens_ . One thing I hated about this game is that the targeting seems to be off when trying to take out the big, hulking extraterrestrials. You can shoot several shots at them that won't connect, and yet they can almost always get an attack off on you. Coincidentally, three years later, Sega would make an arcade adaptation of _Alien 3_ called _Alien 3: The Gun_ , which was rails light-gun shooter that was basically a rip-off of _Space Gun_ .
