Dan DID train under the same master as ryu and ken, but was kicked out because his goal was vengeance, not self righteous. Since kage is an embodiment of evil, rage incarnate, he shares a lot of dans normals because the two characters are actually very similar. Its a really clever nod

In case no one explained this yet, he's called Kage because he ISN'T Evil Ryu. Evil Ryu is Ryu consumed by his Satsui no Hado. After Ryu learned Mu no Ken and got rid of his Satsui no Hado, it manifested into its own form in the same way Omen from Killer Instinct, who originally was just evil energy corrupting Jago into Shadow Jago was expelled from him and gained its own form. Kage is essentially a way to have Evil Ryu in the game while simultaneously killing off the character since he plays like an altered Evil Ryu.

Evil Ryu was always there to show what would happened if Ryu ever got corrupted by the Satsui no Hado and was always going to be killed off since by Ryu masters Mu no Ken by 3rd Strike. As of SFV, Ryu has at least learned Mu no Ken and doesn't have to worry about getting consumed by the Satsui no Hado, meaning Evil Eyu is no longer possible, so Kage was created as a way to keep his gameplay around. If you're familiar with Blazblue, this is the same reason Lambda-11 was created in Continuum Shift; to replace Nu-13, who died in the previous game, and keep her Sword Summoner gameplay around.

You know that moment when Ryu mastered the Power of Nothingness in Story Mode? Well that pretty much removed all of the Dark Hado from him, which ended up becoming Kage as a result, a literal shadow of Ryu no longer bound by the very individual he's been inside for so long.

Kage is the part of ryus persona that becomes evil ryu. Thars why his name translates to shadow, he isn't a real thing, he seems to be a figment of the imagination when someone is taken by the evil dark hado. Just what I took from the story tho

I always thought it was the next level of Evil Ryu like Oni is to Akuma

Evil Ryu = Shin Akuma
Kage = Oni
kage is a demon. this is the season to give demons the credit for their "enhancements" to humanity
Kage is what was in Ryu that made him turn evil in the first place
Capcom doesn’t really explain any of this stuff, so it’s all up to interpretation.
@@Jamsessionroom1337 You're correct. Ryu cast out the evil which took form as Kage. Evil Ryu is Ryu under the influence of the Satsui no Hado. Kage is the physical embodiment of Ryu's Satsui no Hado. The OP is incorrect, both are canon as both are two separate beings.

That trick for the trials worked immensely, managed to do them eventually too, thanks for sharing! It also works for his immediate air fireballs too, input the motion to fireball then jump and hit the punch button (works for Akuma's air fireballs too). TURKEY NECKS FOR EVERYONE!

Hey smug, I've loved your content and have been watching streams since street fighter 4 but in all honesty I think in 2019 you should take a different type of shift in your content. Playing multiple games on stream/channel would really help you prosper and you're one of those channels that deserves to prosper. Of course it's your channel so you don't have to do anything you don't want to but I think it would honestly help you grow to reach multiple audience's. Like always keep up the videos, love ya stuff man.

Yeah, idk, dog. From what I see channels that aren't focused tend to not grow as much. Sure, it would still be fighting games, but I think it's bad for business (growth) if you spread yourself too thin. Nothing against tekken or any other game, but I'm just not into stuff like tekken for some reason. I don't play it, so I don't watch it because I won't truly understand the fine details of what's happening or how hard it is to perform the combos or whatever is happening. So if smug had a tekken video I probably wouldn't watch it even though smug is hella entertaining. And I'm sure there's tons of people like me. So he'd be putting time and effort into videos that probably half of his current subscriber base wouldn't watch. Sure, he may pull in some tekken people, but would it make up for alienating your base? Idk. I think the best thing for growth is to stay focused and just cover one topic or whatever. That said, if he picks up mortal Kombat 11 I would watch that. Or if he branched out within the street fighter universe and covered lore, or news, or whatever, like how Ernesto Lopez on button check does I would watch that too. But that IMO would still be focused because it's sticking to one game.
Yes, I just wrote a novel all to say that I think doing multiple games would be bad for channel growth. It's possible I'm wrong though.
