Everything was spot on. Thank you. Only question: is it safe to wash it out with faucet water? I thought no faucet water should be used therein, even for cleaning the pot, other than boiled.

    BEST demonstration video!
I’ve been up for hours looking for a tutorial. I initially read the entire instructional pamphlet. But sometimes I just got to see it.
The first time my nose burned for an hour. I either didn’t shake up the solution correctly or the water was too cold.
The next day, it felt like the water got into my ear tube and also into my frontal sinus. I may have layed down to sleep too soon after the rinse.
Next time, I’ll follow your tips …bend forward more & say “kkkkaaayyyy” while rinsing to hopefully prevent water entering the Eustachian tube.
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video and sharing your knowledge with us. God bless you!

Can't believe it's been 8 years this month since I started this journey at Penn. Good seeing you today as always :) Wishing you and your family the happiest of holidays!

Did it for the first time this morning after my sinus surgery yesterday. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Rather than heating up in a microwave, I took a wonton soup container into the shower with me, filled it with warm water, and put the bottle in it to heat it up. I waited until the end of my shower and did it - the bottle was the perfect temperature. I wasn’t able to do half in one squeeze but maybe my technique just needs to improve.

You have given me something to consider with how I use my sinus irrigation machines, preferred over that of using a bottle.
I had been using it mainly in an upright position, pointing the device upwards rather than at the back with my head bent over.
That probably explains why much of the liquid I used to irrigate went down into my throat, to be coughed back up.
Even after sinus surgery I still need to regularly use sinus irrigation, but I knew that anyway. At least the FESS done bilaterally on my maxillary sinuses has helped with their drainage.

..The openings of the sphenoid, ethmoid and frontal sinuses are located at the top of the nasal cavity. Irrigation can only reach these openings when the head is positioned upside down. This can be achieved by instilling the irrigation solution from a syringe, with the head in supine position and then tilted backward into nearly an upside down position, over the edge of a bed or over an exercise ball. When the person sits up, the liquid is drained into a bowl, aided by a vigorous outbreath through the nose. A 60-mL syringe allows for five instillations of c. 12 mL each in a few minutes. (Wilhelmina J. Rietsema, MD)

My problem sinus is the sphenoid. To irrigate these bad boys I load up the nose (I actually suck water up thru the neti pot spout) and pinch off the nostrils. I keep the soft palate closed and lay on my back, and tilt my head back somewhat. At this point I can actually breath thru my mouth. I gently tap my head on the floor and rock my head side to side. My nose is pinched off during all this. After about a minute I stand, drain and blow out the loosened stuff gently. Reload and repeat until the neti is empty. I get 4 or 5 rinses per pot.

I’m having problems as it’s not so effective now. Am I doing something wrong. I bought a new one and still having issues. Do you believe I should breath in the liquid?

    • @hey-diddlediddle

It's probably because your turbinates are too swollen (from infections or allergies) and water is able to go in because of pressure from squeeze bottle but water falling down does not have the same pressure of squeeze bottle so it can't come down. I had the same thing happen and had to wait a few hours till swellings go down and water randomly come out.

I’m trying to use this to clear up a thick post nasal drip that is too thick to really drip or come out. I saw another doctor demonstrate it by tilting his head back and snorting it up nose, down throat, and out mouth. I tend to feel like I’m drowning and cough it up though. I do cough up some of the phlegm though. Should I just keep trying it like shown here?

    • @rmpbklyn6063

    • @Pat_S
      @Pat_S 4 роки тому +1

rmpbklyn it seems to only clean my nose. I don’t have anything in the nose, it’s towards back of sinus cavity where throat starts. I guess I’ll keep trying it. Every time I’ve done it though, I feel like I have a bad flu/cold for 2-3 days after
