I have been asking God's forgiveness for decades, but this is the first time I have confessed to a priest. I'm nervous but resolute. Please pray for me. I had to cancel my Instagram account for this very reason. It was making me very covetous. Not a minute would go by on social media where I didn't experience some kind of internal jealousy over something, be it someone's travel experience, clothes, home, beauty, family life, career, friendships ect. I had to repent, and cut it out completely in order to continue a life that is more in line with God. It has made a huge difference! If there is something that keeps pulling you into sin, having the courage to cut it out is life changing.
EXACTLY what I did too several years back. Best desicion to make!! I got rid of all social media except UA-cam and I monitor it with only Holy channels/videos :))
Another thing for others reading this maybe if you feel like deleting the whole app is too hard make a new account but only follow Jesus related things ❤️

Eeesh, that was brutal to watch. As I listened to Father I started ticking certain things off. (Tick, tick, tick, tick...) I like to consider myself a good Catholic, and I can count the ways. A good reminder by Fr. Mark-Mary here to get serious about counting the many ways I'm not.

Years ago my brother left the church and went to a fundamentalist Baptist church. Fast forward to today and two of his kids got away from that church and now see how bad that Baptist church was for them growing up. Long story but that’s the meat of it. Their daughter hardly speaks to them which I think is wrong and told her so but someday she’ll get past that and hopefully will get her relationship back with mom and dad.

Going to my first confession in about 18 years here today. I’m not even a little afraid or nervous, I mean, ok maybe a tiny bit nervous. But only because I want do to it right with Him as the primary focus and reason as why I’m doing it, not because “I have to”. I’ve long since atone for and addressed my sins to my spouse and worked through them with my counselor and even my Non Denominational Pastor friends. But today is the day I really reconcile with the Father and Holy Spirit. Thank you Fr MM and Fr Mike for all you’ve done. Your full Rosary prayer session has been a wonderful addition to my mornings. Prioritizing prayer is so vital for this. For me, I find embracing the liturgy of the hours in my daily life to be so important to framing the day with prayer. Full disclosure, I am a Byzantine Rite Catholic, and our LotH is generally longer than that of the west today, so I try and stick with daily orthros (morning prayer), vespers (evening prayer), and compline (night prayer), with the other parts of the office prayed as is practically reasonable with my daily schedule. From praying the psalms, to the daily propers, which range from being convictingly penitential, to the didactic nature of the prayers for the daily saints, I find that this repetition helps to form my thoughts and attitudes outside of prayer such where it helps me to try and maintain a prayerful mentality throughout the day. Also, making time to just be still, to have quiet conversations with God, allowing Him to speak, is so vital. There is a danger in focusing only on that type of prayer where we sometimes tend to focus on forcing an emotional experience, such where we kind of end up worshipping ourselves and not God, since we then run the risk of reducing our faith and prayer life down to our emotions. This is why having a “prayer rule” is so vital, as it is something that one can commit to on a daily level, such where they pray it regardless of how they feel. When I struggle with this myself, before beginning, say, vespers, I tell God that I don’t want to pray. When I put it in those words, it helps me to go deep in my meditation to see what it is deep within me that has brought me to this place, whether by my deliberate bad choices or just my going through a rough patch in life. At the end of the day, it is impossible for a Christian to grow in their faith if prayer is not central to their daily lives. Again, it is impossible.
My prayers have been becoming a bit emotional and I do worry about falling into 'self worship' as you put it, but I think admitting that I don't want pray sometimes would be a good first step. Thank you for these encouraging words of advice.

Thank you Father. I am going to confess today for my wedding day in two weeks.
Prioritizing prayer is so vital for this.
For me, I find embracing the liturgy of the hours in my daily life to be so important to framing the day with prayer. Full disclosure, I am a Byzantine Rite Catholic, and our LotH is generally longer than that of the west today, so I try and stick with daily orthros (morning prayer), vespers (evening prayer), and compline (night prayer), with the other parts of the office prayed as is practically reasonable with my daily schedule.
From praying the psalms, to the daily propers, which range from being convictingly penitential, to the didactic nature of the prayers for the daily saints, I find that this repetition helps to form my thoughts and attitudes outside of prayer such where it helps me to try and maintain a prayerful mentality throughout the day.
Also, making time to just be still, to have quiet conversations with God, allowing Him to speak, is so vital. There is a danger in focusing only on that type of prayer where we sometimes tend to focus on forcing an emotional experience, such where we kind of end up worshipping ourselves and not God, since we then run the risk of reducing our faith and prayer life down to our emotions.
This is why having a “prayer rule” is so vital, as it is something that one can commit to on a daily level, such where they pray it regardless of how they feel. When I struggle with this myself, before beginning, say, vespers, I tell God that I don’t want to pray. When I put it in those words, it helps me to go deep in my meditation to see what it is deep within me that has brought me to this place, whether by my deliberate bad choices or just my going through a rough patch in life.
At the end of the day, it is impossible for a Christian to grow in their faith if prayer is not central to their daily lives. Again, it is impossible.
