What People Forget About Our Lady of Guadalupe

- The apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary that came to be known as Our Lady of Guadalupe was a miracle. The Castilian roses that came from Tepeyac Hill in winter were a miracle. The divinely illustrated vision of Our Lady on St. Juan Diego's tilma was a miracle-as is the fact that the tilma composed of organic fibers has refused to degrade for 500 years and is still available to see to this day.
But none of those were the greatest miracle that Our Lady brought to the Americas that fateful century. Fr. Mike points out the incredible miracle that many people gloss over-but the one that makes an eternal difference.

I had a very complicated pregnancy with my twins, just over 3 years ago. We had gone through infertility and prayed the rosary often as we went through that time. We have a statue of Our Lady of Guadeloupe in our home from my husband's grandparents that we would look to while praying. My twins due date was December 12th, the feast day of Our Lady of Guadeloupe. My water broke at 18 weeks and we were told there was a 20% chance they would make it. I also had a partial placental abruption at 23 weeks. I was on bedrest for 12 weeks, hospitalized for 8 of those weeks, and went through some extremely difficult moments. I felt Mary so close to me throughout that time. There were roses my mom brought to my hospital room that lasted much longer than they should have - looking back, seems like a reminder of her presence. My miracle babies came at 30 weeks, 3 days, and did amazingly well. The doctors were amazed at how long I stayed pregnant and how well the twins were doing. They are my miracle babies, and I'm sure that Mary helped bring our needs to God to make that miracle possible. Now at 3 years old you'd never know what they went through. We are so blessed, and I'll always have a special appreciation for Our Lady of Guadeloupe. ❤
Beautiful testimony! Praise God your babies are healthy and happy! 😊🙏🏻The intercession of Our Lady is SO amazing! The placenta separation happened with my grandchild last year, my daughter was on bed rest for months too, and kept bleeding so we kept invoking Our Lady’s intercession. Her doctor suggested abortion which was beyond shocking! My daughter immediately changed doctors that same day, thank God!! He was born at 31 weeks, short ICU (Dr was amazed) and he’s now 15 months - healthy and happy!!! Thank God she got away from those original OBGYN’s - office of death.
So happy for you, that Our Lady was able to protect your babies too! They will have so many graces over their lives for the rest of their lives! Amen! ❤🙏🏻
Beautiful testimony. Our Mother is always.ready to help us
Alleluia 🙏 Praise God for His compassion and strength. So happy to hear all of you are healthy 💞
The Virgin Mary appeared as a mestiza to unite the Spanish and indigenous. Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe. I have a soft spot for Mi Mama. You can see images of her everywhere if you live in an area with a heavy Mexican population. That's one place I want to visit before I die. I have to see the tilma in person. Madre de Dios pray for us.
I’ve also imagined that possibility! Loretto definitely ranks high on my list as well.

The fact that the tilma has lasted this long and was able to withstand a bomb tells you its from God. The metal crucifix that was nearby was bent under the heat of the fire but the tilma remained intact. I was blessed to see it this year and it's beautiful ❤️. Thank you God 🙏
I heard that the thin pane regular glass also survived that blast. How very fortunate you were to see the Tilma in person! God‘s blessings to you and yours!

As a former agnostic, I’m happy for you. I discovered our religion is not a leap of blind faith but a reasonable reason to believe. Juan Diego’s tilma it’s just one of the countless things our church possesses that science classifies as “ unexplained phenomenon.”
I second that. His passion about the things of God is infectious. ^.^
Pray the Rosary everyday and watch the graces flow. It’s amazing. 🩵🙏🏼

This feast day has been a hard one for me the last couple years. I lost a loved one suddenly and unexpectedly on December 12, 2022 💔 I’m going to be missing him badly tomorrow and trying to ask Our Lady of Guadeloupe for comfort and hope 💙
So sorry for your loss, may Our Lady wrap you in her Heavenly Mantle 🙏

Praying for you in your grief. Ask for Blessed Mothers prayers for you, she understands the loss of a loved one but also because of our Lord we have the hope that we will be united with our loved ones in heaven. God be with you.
LORD JESUS Having two sons with special needs is overwhelming at times because they require so much from me. As a single mother things are difficult. I keep faith in you Jesus even as I struggle to pay rent, and as I struggle to buy groceries. Every month is a battle. I want to give up. Yet my Faith is my strength.
May God Bless you abundantly and provide all your needs. 🙏
I suffer similar struggles. Not with the kids but with the rent payments and such. You're not alone. Hopefully, this gets better soon.
I want to wish blessings upon you. May the Lord protect you all. May the Virgin Mary (or Lupita) always be watching over you and help you taking care of your two angels.
Consecrate yourself entirely to the Blessed Virgin Mary and she will help you overcome anyone of your struggles. Consecrate your two sons, your finances , your whole being without reserve, and Mary will take care of you and give you the joy you need.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, please pray for us!
What I found particularly fascinating is Gods' perfect timing. In Europe, Catholicism was a little hurt in the early 16th century with Luther and the Protestant Reformation. Many of our brothers and sisters were lead away from the Church. While Europe was struggling, Our Lady miraculously appeared in Mexico and brought a great number of people over to the one holy, Catholic and apostolic Church, many more than were lost in the reformation. Thanks to Mother Mary, the New World became Catholic, and the Church flourished worldwide!!
♥️ The reason I am not a Catholic is because Catholics do not preach Paul’s gospel for salvation.

So this is the sign, huh? For the past week Ive been planning a road trip to see all 21 California Missions. There is a good and bad history behind their development and I was curious if I should continue. Aside from my many main goals for the trip, I planned to pray at each mission for those who lost their lives during these harsh and glorious days. Earlier in the day and just recently during Adoration, I prayed to God to give me a sign to either go or not. And guess what popped up on my UA-cam. Prayer is powerful. Thank you for your videos, Father.
I’m going to be praying the rosary tomorrow night in the cold freezing weather and praying the rosary in the garden and I’m going to see if I can see our lady of Guadalupe star shaped in the sky

I’m so glad you did this. So many people won’t remember tomorrow I live outside of Chicago and I can tell you that you can’t get anywhere near Des Plaines, Illinois, which is where the national shrine is. The people are out there and it’s about 20° tonight and we have a wind that is coming out of the north And will Drive our windchills overnight between-10 and -20 below zero. This is obviously the coldest night and Thursday will be the coldest day that we will have had so far. But that does not stop the people from coming what blew my mind when I was watching a bit on the news. There are some people who actually walk the last mile on their knees we have mass at 5 o’clock tomorrow afternoon. I am truly looking forward to it . Of course it’s giving the floral shops that are in the grocery stores a lot of business in roses today. But thanks for talking about it and bringing it up. It’s very important afternoon. I am enjoying your advent presentation first thing in the morning. First thing I listened to is wonderful. You obviously worked hard and did a lot of research. It is a job. Well done thank you again. May your advent be going well.
My aunt loved to sing to my kids every night. In a small town nestled between rolling hills, there lived a girl named Emma who often felt lost and alone. Every day after school, she wandered to a quaint little church at the edge of town, seeking solace in its warm embrace. It was her refuge, a place where echoes of faith filled the air, comforting her weary heart. They sang of love that conquers fear, of grace that heals, and of dreams that soar. With every note, Emma felt her worries fade away, replaced by the promise of something greater. The choir’s music began to reach beyond the church, spreading hope throughout the town. They performed at local events, touching lives and bringing people together. Emma noticed the smiles that lit up faces as the music played, realizing the profound impact of their message. One evening, while practicing under a starry sky, Emma reflected on her journey. She felt a deep sense of belonging, knowing they were shining a light for others to find their way. Inspired by her experiences, Emma started to write her own songs, weaving her feelings into lyrics about faith, resilience, and hope. With her friends’ encouragement, she began to perform her songs during choir events, sharing her story with the world. The more she sang, the more her spirit lifted, transforming pain into purpose. As the seasons changed, so did Emma. She blossomed into a beacon of light in her community, using her voice to uplift those who felt lost. The little church became a hub of hope, where people gathered not just to listen but to share their own stories of struggle and triumph. Together, they sang not only of faith but also of love, friendship, and the beauty of new beginnings. Through the power of music, Emma found her voice and her purpose, inspiring others to embrace their journeys with courage. The melodies that once filled her heart with longing now resonated with joy, reminding everyone that no matter how dark the night, the dawn will always break, bringing the promise of a new day filled with hope and love. Emma’s story became a testament to the transformative power of faith and community, showing that through music, lives can be changed, hearts can heal, and dreams can come alive. As she looked around at her friends, she knew that together they were creating a symphony of hope, one note at a time. I lost my husband and moved in with my aunt when things went bad for us Kelvin, I owe all my gratitude to you for changing my life from being homeless to owning a home. Help me thank her in prayers. Feedback@kelvinpro , com These are the exact lyrics she sang to my kids every night.!`.

Dear Father Mike, as always, thank you for your program and the wonderful messages you give us every week. I’m an avid follower and try not to miss any of your videos. In this case, however, here are a few points that I would just like to humbly bring to your attention as there could be some misconception or lack of precision on the accuracy of the facts.
1. When Juan Diego first came across our Lady of Guadalupe, he going to look after his uncle who was sick. He was going to his catechism instruction. After a couple of apparitions (in fact the last one), his uncle was very ill and he tried to take a different path to avoid meeting Our Lady as he was going to get help for his uncle. That’s when Our Lady of Guadalupe told him not to worry and she healed his uncle at that instant (later his uncle told Juan Diego that that same lady had appeared to him and cured him).
2. The place was where the temple was to be built was not called Guadalupe yet. That name was given or interpreted (there’s a whole discussion as to whether it was the same as Guadalupe in Spain or was the Nahuatl term “coatlaxopeuh” - which is pronounced almost the same as the Spanish term Guadalupe - and it means “”).
3. Juan Diego does not say he doesn’t have time, but instead that he is nobody. He kindly asks our Lady if she could send someone else instead who the bishop would believe.
4. Juan Diego does not take off his tilma, he just uses it (as it was common) to hold the roses, wrapping them up with the tilma.
5. The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe (mixed blood of Spanish and native), i.e. true Mexican (as one other comment rightly says, to unite the Spanish and the native. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT POINT, Father, as she did not come to represent the native pre-hispanic people, or to take the "side of the oppressed"
Is the first time you hear Fr. Mike speak? He paraphrases and uses relaxed language. That's his style. He's not giving an academic paper here.
@@Dback121584So very true. I watch and listen to him daily. My day is then complete.
The research i've done says the tilmas don't last for more than 5-7 years, and that's incredible❤😊
Love it ❤ Viva la virgen de Guadalupe!!!!
Thank you for covering Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe!
I have had the amazing honor of knowing and having Her in my home all of my life and of having a personal relationship with Her. Throughout my life She has made Herself known to me and has intervened on my behalf to our Lord and Savior. The love that she has for Her Son is freely given to us all! Praise God Almighty for entrusting us to Her!
Bro you’re one step away from Worshipping her 😂 I’m trying real hard to get into Catholicism but when I see comments like this…brother nobody is talking to you in your heart except for The Father, The Son, Or the Holy Spirit. Let me just ask you this and perhaps I can learn. When you “talk” to her do you, close your eyes and talk in your head? I’m just curious how do you separate that from praying to God and you don’t think by saying she does all these wonderful things for you, you’re taking away from the Gifts and blessing GOD gives you? You don’t think you can get this same blessings without praying through a human to pray to God for you? Surely you know God loves you equally as all the people in heaven and would not listen to them more over you
@@noluckasmrI’ve been a lifelong Catholic and have issues with praying to Mother Mary and the saints…I would find the video of Fr Mike talking about this…it really helped me…we’re only asking them to intercede for us and send up prayers to the Father…
But, yes…I get where you’re coming from…I go ‘straight to the source’ as well and have just recently started saying the rosary…
@@noluckasmrWhy would Jesus be upset for you talking to His Mother? I think he's going to be more upset with the people who show her so little respect. She is the MOTHER of GOD, we don't worship her, we honor her and trust her to intercede for us. Think of the wedding of Cana, when they ran out of wine. Mary took the problem to Jesus and even though his time had not yet come, he did what she asked of him. Don't you know, Jesus will not deny his mother anything! She takes our grubby prayers, polishes them to sweet perfection and presents them to her Son. Trust me, when you allow Mary to be your Mom, the graces from God are neverending ❤
Context though.
It makes sense looking through the lens salvation history in the Bible as a source. God didn't go "straight to the source" with salvation history. He didn't wave a magic wand and send Jesus to appear out of thin air to eradicate sin as soon as the fall happened in Genesis, despite having the capability to do so. There were years of hardship and mistakes and brokenness in the lineage of Abraham and King David.
God sent Jesus to us through birth, by Mary's womb through these lineages. He could have streamlined the whole process of salvation history. But he didn't. God chose Mary deliberately to have Jesus. He was establishing an example. Mary was Jesus' mother and his first disciple. She is directly involved in mankind's salvation history (not of her own interest or accord, but divinely chosen) still.
Isaiah 55:8-9 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.
I mean no disrespect, but what Mary does for us doesn't matter in my understanding from currently reading the Bible. She is worthy of respect, as everyone is. We are called to love everyone; its a command from Jesus Christ. However, you don't need to pray to her, which I believe is dangerous, or to ask her to make your prayers better? Please recall the verse in the book of John. Im paraphrasing, but Jesus said HE is the way, the truth, and NO ONE gets to the Father except through him. Our father God and His son Jesus Christ knows we are not perfect. We are sinners, and its woven into us. You won't have a perfect prayer because we are not perfect and never will be. That's why God sent Jesus Christ for us to save us. We are saved through our Faith in Jesus Christ alone and what he did for us. Not anyone else, and I mean anyone. Please be careful with who you pray to. I know your and many others intentions are good, but God and Jesus Christ makes it very clear that any idolater will not inherent the kingdom of God. We should only be praying and worshiping Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior and our Father God. No one else. Please read the Holy Bible for yourself and do not so fast believe other preachers and others. This is not a game and God means everything He says. Please read the Bible (if you haven't) so you know exactly what you are doing. I will pray for you and everyone on this thread.@@maryanne8395

The tilma ... 😮 "See? That's God." This is what i say when these kinds of incredible things happen. Between this, and the Eucharist that turned into heart tissue... i don't get how there are unbelievers. And as for Mary (Mommy), she's swept me up much as you described. My two clay moms both left something to be desired, so i look to Mary for what they didn't provide. Helps in my own parenting, really .. GREAT MSG, TY, Fr. Mike!! 😊
What do you mean you “Look to Mary”? Why not ask God how to be a good mom, you think he doesn’t know how to parent?
@@noluckasmr good question.
That's the point. God COULD have parented himself, and has no need to be "parented", but he didn't.
"The word became flesh." He humbled his full divinity, (true God and true man) becoming a human being. Mary was divinely chosen, (the holy spirit came down upon her) to be Jesus' mother. She was intentionally chosen. This is significant and deserves to contemplated with scripture and with faith. Keep asking questions.
@ I feel like I get where you’re coming from, but if you’re saying he humbled himself, it’s more humble to just pick a random lady than it is to pick some sort of perfect woman. She is Blessed among woman simply because God chose her as the mother not because she was already some holy lady who just so happens to now be the mother of Christ. No matter who he came out of, Jesus was always going to be the savior of the World and just one last thing, Jesus came and hung out with sinners, would it really be so horrible if he was born to a regular sinning lady? He came for the sinners, he was poor and from the ghetto, but his mom never sinned once lol
@noluckasmr I wasn't
@noluckasmr nope, I don't. You may sit down.

Two aspects of the Tilma we need more publicity for. Firstly, the apparition was in 1531. The Lutheran nonsense started in 1517, resulting in millions leaving the Catholic Church in Europe. Our Lady's appearance in 1531 was a counter strike that brought 10 million Mexicans to the Catholic Church in the first 10 years. Seeing the apparition as a response that countered the reformation shows that Our Lady is not to be defeated by Satan. The second thing that is really important is that apparently the outside part of the image has been painted to make it look better (*grumbles*). Atheists are able to point to chipped paint and say - "look it is clearly fake you can see where the paint is falling off." We need better info on this so that we can answer the criticism. There is not much on this anywhere. Why do people muck about with gifts from God??? The image at Las Lajas also has two Crowns added to the image. I am sure it was done for good purposes but it undermines the credibility of the miracle because it just doesn't look right. The very well meaning repairs of the Shroud with cotton resulted in a demonic action where these repairs found there way into the carbon dating of the Shroud resulting in a false Carbon Dating measurement. For goodness sakes don't touch or try to improve miracles. God knows what He is doing!!!
Thank you Lord for giving us your mother, the most merciful and beautiful Mother our Mother.
Holy Mother of God, pray for us! ❤️✝️🛐
Father Mike 40 yrs old still young 🙊 i am 38 i consider myself young 😅
The fact that our Blessed Mother appeared in the image in the Tilma as a peasant pregnant woman in the heavens- it told the people that she was above heaven AND earth and above all the false gods they were worshiping up to that time - yet she was beautiful and accessible to them with her holy message at the same time.
Millions upon millions converted due to that gorgeous image of the Queen of Heaven!
Mary is such an incredible gift to mankind.

Thank you Fr Mike as always I love and appreciate your work🙏🙏

Praise be to God, the Holy Trinity 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I would also recommend the book, "Our Lady of Guadalupe: A Civilization of Love" by Anderson and Chavez. It goes into incredible detail about the cultural significance surrounding the story and image. For example, the roses weren't just a cool party trick; rather, flowers were a native cultural image for Truth.
And the Bishop was from Castile, Spain. The roses were particularly chosen. They are called Castilian roses and the Bishop would clearly know them and know that they could never grow on a mountaintop in actually late December (the Gregorian calendar was adjusted after the apparition.)
Long live our Lady of Guadalupe❤🎉12

Thank you Fatger Mike. Great to hear the story of Juan Diego and La Gguadalupana hermosa.
Two years ago a stranger gave me a miraculous medal on a chain. I wasn't the necklace type but I started wearing it anyhow. A couple days later I was on a plane to say goodbye to my suddenly dying mother. After her own passion and death, the Lord basically said to me, "behold your mother" and pointed to Mary. Since then I wholeheartedly took her into my home in a way I never did before and mysterious things really started to happen. Like this Advent I resolved to go to morning mass at least once a week before work. I had meant to go on Wednesday but didn't. Then I had meant to go on Friday but went today instead. I like to keep our Lady's feasts when I can, but I had no idea today was the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.
God bless you Fr Mike
The book "Our Lady of Guadalupe and the Conquest of Darkness" is absolutely worth reading. Pretty harrowing at times, but worth it for understanding the whole context and why Our Lady's apparition is so beautiful. Short book too.

Thank you Father Mike that was a message to me and I needed to hear it tonight
Thank you Father for the reminder. God bless x
Thank you
Mother Virgin Mary, thank you for being my mother and my intermediary. AMEN AMEN
So beautiful, mother Mary please pray for us 🙏
Thank you Fr. Mike. I had an abusive mother and that left a huge scar on my heart. Knowing that Mary is my mother has helped to erase that scar. It will take a little time for it to heal but I know that it will because Jesus gave me the gift of His mother.
So many miracles outside the basic story exist here. I believe God can perform miracles if we ask for them fervently enough. I have been devoted to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of the Américas for over 15 years and I hope to visit her within the next 10 years. Saving a little at a time to get myself there.
Ave Maria. Amen.
This is a great explanation as to why and how Mary appears and how she appears to look like the people where she appears.
Guadalupe definitely is the most important and wonderful apparition. Too many aspects and messages.
Thank you, Father Mike Schmitz, for your very inspiring message about Mary, Our Mother.
Merry Christmas!
Praise the Lord ❤
Mama Mary's miraculous selfie.
Your beard is so cool.
I might not be officially Catholic but I know that Mary is our spiritual mother because when praying to Mary she points to Jesus.
Thanks for explaining this, I hadn't heard the story before.
Breathtaking, Father. No wonder so much spiritual warfare there to this day. May God bless and protect the children of the Beautiful Mother of God, especially in this season of the greatest miracle of all. 🙏
Amen Padre! 💕
Here is something that was my epiphany, overall. We all know that in Revelation 12, we all know who the woman is as Queen of Heaven and Earth. At the time when of Pentecost happened, when the Holy Spirit came down and gave the gift of speaking in other languages to spread the word… who was also in the room? Our Lady. If the apostles and disciples can speak other languages, Our Lady can speak ALL the languages on earth. That’s why Our Lady has to many titles and rightfully so. We love and honor Our Lady.
Our Lady of Guadalupe, please and continue to pray for all of us. Amen.
Actually thank you for this information. This never hit me until you mentioned it and it makes sense.
Have y’all seen the recent evidence of the image in her eyes? Its quite amazing.
