It would be far more *REALISTIC* (and Historical) to grasp that indeed, God kept his Church in the Truth this whole time... but a few heretics thought they were smarter than their superiors, and ended up in apostasy, coming-up with all sorts of new interpretations, creating a whole new vision of the Gospel (far more appealing and PERMISSIVE), just so it would all make sense *without a priesthood,* and *without a need to answer to anyone else than themselves.* I'll charitably say this to you: YOU should repent, because anyone who isn't living a good, pious catholic life right now *is in great spiritual danger.* If you die a heretic, your chances of getting in Heaven are near null.

Well. There were a few good tips here. However, mostly it made me more uncomfortable about going to confession. I mean, it seems to be a whole lot of things I can do wrong more than right while trying to confess the wrongs I have done. Also, I am older and still not clear on what a mortal sin is. The lesser sins give me enough trouble with guilt and cons of disappointment in me. Sometimes I feel like I’m seven again and getting ready for a first holy communion and other times I wish I was seven again and getting ready for a first holy communion.
You don't have to. Confess to Jesus as many sins you can remember. There is no need to say I did this six times and another sin 2 times. He knows what you did when you did it and how often. Ask for forgiveness and then ropent. Turn away from all of them.

My understanding is confess to a priest for absolution of the sin. But also confess / penance those you hurt. So if you intentionally lied/gossiped behind someone’s back you tell them (as well as to a priest)
if anyone wavers if they should go to confession, I can share that a great remorse can come even after the confession. It is hurtful but also beautiful to see the seriousness of one's sins. I also had a demon encounter once at night after. So i know it does work, just sayin'
Just wondering, if, for example, you kill someone. does confessing it take the sin away or will you be required to go to the authorities and admit the killing too complete.the repentance process?

There is also *IMPERFECT CONTRITION* - - which is expressing contrition (not because you believe you’ve offended God) but because of other reasons (i.e. - you believe it’s wrong, you regret doing it, concern about the consequences, etc). It’s important to be honest and tell the priest if it’s *imperfect contrition* - - which is still helpful because (1) you’re being truthful, (2) it helps the priest understand where you are in your spiritual life / growth. (Many people - perhaps most - are initially more concerned with being punished themselves - before they even realize the idea of offending God. Just as children are more concerned with getting in trouble with their parents - before realizing that their parents could be upset by their actions.)
I have a great question here.....if one has been confessing without stating the number of times one has sinned a particular sin...especially if one did not know on the importance of this 1. Can we say that the previous confessions were never legit? 2. If so, in stating the time one did the previous confession, what can we say(can we say we have never confessed since birth)?
At 5:03, Father, you state "this is a tribunal of justice". Yet, in St. Maria Faustina's Diary, Our Lord tells her it is "the Tribunal of MERCY". Our Lord is very clear about that. The court is at the moment of death---"Settle with your opponent while on your way to court..." (Mt. 5:25). Court, in the passage refers not to the confessional, but to the Lord's Court of Justice that occurs at the end of or lives. Jesus---and the Church's teaching--is clear that while on earth, we are given Our Lord's mercy. His Divine Justice occurs once we leave this earth.
It's a trend right now for priests to take a long time in confession. That's fine if you're one of the first five people in line, but for the other twenty people in line who don't get to confess it's not so good.
Father, The part where you explain the seal of confession as it pertains to persons who have for some reason overheard someone’s confession . What should be done. A Priest said that a marriage between two Catholic baptized people can not get divorced. Even if they had married at the justice of the peace… so all this time I thought I was living in sun. Then I heard another Priest saying differently. Which is what?
If the marriage was a valid sacramental marriage, they can have a civil divorce, but the Church cannot give them a divorce. If there was some condition at the time of the marriage that prevented the marriage from being a sacrament, then an annulment can be given. If two people who had a valid sacramental marriage do go through with a civil divorce, they are still married in the eyes of God and of the Church and they cannot marry other people after their divorce.

Best advice I ever had regarding Confession: Be brief, be brutal, be gone.
@srelizabethmaryhermit. Yes you heard it from Fr Thomas Celso, I'm assuming because that's exactly what he's stated.
It reminds we of what I heard Priest say. He said "Hearing Nuns confessions was like being nibbled to death by ducks" I don't think I was supposed I wasn't meant to hear that, I was in the wrong place at the wrong time!

I have the same problem, to the point I put off going to confession because of how I feel afterwards. I'm looking into scrupulosity and OCD for this, and hoping to get as free from this as possible. Fr Chad Ripperger also has an excellent talk specifically on scruples which is quite helpful, unlike a lot of other advice out there. Scrupulous Anonymous has helpful insight and advice too, but I'm not sure about some of their tendency to mention some modernist ideas/people. I don't this necessarily negates the good insight they offer though.
Eloquent and well defined, this is the talents God gave to Fr Ripperger. I love how he has no delusions when freeing a soul of demons that IT IS Christ, not himself, that frees them. Amen, Father!

One quickly realizes why being a truly consistent Catholic is so difficult. In the end, it seems, very few of us will make it to heaven.
In our Creed at the end, we believe in the forgiveness of sins. So, I believe that our Heavenly Father has such mercy for us, that our sins will be forgiven. You must 'tho be truly contrite in asking for forgiveness and amend your ways.
Remind as many priests as possible that they should be available for confession 30 minutes before each mass, sitting in the confessional.
They should also remind their flocks of the importance of Confession

This claim of yours does not only sound ridiculous; it also portrays God as an incompetant for not being able to keep His Church in the Truth for more than a few decades.
It would be far more *REALISTIC* (and Historical) to grasp that indeed, God kept his Church in the Truth this whole time... but a few heretics thought they were smarter than their superiors, and ended up in apostasy, coming-up with all sorts of new interpretations, creating a whole new vision of the Gospel (far more appealing and PERMISSIVE), just so it would all make sense *without a priesthood,* and *without a need to answer to anyone else than themselves.*

At 0:22, this is how I made my confession while visiting in Guadalajara, Jalisco. Born & raised in N.O. rite, with closed door confessionals, this made me so nervous to be so out in the open, with the confession line just a few feet away. I know now this is the traditional way men make confession.
14:26 "but the seal of confession also applies to people that aren't the priest...we're not talking about the person who's confessing because he has a right to say things on his own provided prudence and these other circumstances which I've mentioned before. Observe, but he has a right to divulge what's in his own interior life, he has that right; however, if you happen to hear someone else's confession..." it get's cut off to 14:52 "...also make sure to mention your state in life" I'd like to ask what the end of the first statement was, concerning what happens when a person who is not the priest hears another person's confession. Thank you.
I don't know what Father Ripperger said, but it is true that if you overhear someone else's confession you are bound not to tell anybody else what you hear otherwise it's an automatic ex-communication just like with a priest.
@@trentonschirmer7389 It sounds like he began to say that people who overhear outside of the confessional are bound to the seal of confession too. People are not supposed to be listening to begin with though. If it's easy to hear the line needs to back up or plug your ears.

I never knew you were supposed to say how many times you committed a sin. Thank you, Father.
You don't have to. Confess to Jesus as many sins you can remember. There is no need to say I did this six times and another sin 2 times. He knows what you did when you did it and how often. Ask for forgiveness and then ropent. Turn away from all of them.

The court is at the moment of death---"Settle with your opponent while on your way to court..." (Mt. 5:25). Court, in the passage refers not to the confessional, but to the Lord's Court of Justice that occurs at the end of or lives.
