- Our rope maker Sarah brought her apprentice Niclas along to Älvängen, Sweden, to make rope at the full length ropewalk they have there, along with Bernt from the Rope maker Museum. I'ts a bit more advanced then our rope walk back home in Hardanger, and allows for longer and thicker ropes to be made.
This rope is for the rigging on the historic ship Gurine in Hardanger.

Museet har ei reiparbane i full lengd med utdrivarteknologi, som gjer det mogeleg å slå tjukkare og lengre tau enn me kan gjere på vår "lille" reperbane på 80 meter i Hardanger.

I love the fact that even in 2021 in this all plastic-all automated-soulless world crafts like these still exist . It is mandatory for the new generations to keep these crafts alive for ever. I know mass production and such is inevitable but these crafts must stay alive!
Everyone is hunting big money and with big money comes big production-mass production-low quality etc etc. Hapiness is not a matter of money, is a mater of living. Living needs money but much less from what we make it look like.

The truth is we are moving away from everything that connects us. Crafts connect people. Sitting all day in front of a pc makes you antisocial. We have turned from being with others and being social most of the day to being focused on a pc all day and trying to be social in our spare time.

Very informative! I like doing basic rope twisting with my hands, problem is that it is not as consistent or can have as many threads to make up the rope/cordage. I am looking for ways to do something like a "one man rope walk" because of space and willing manpower (that's me!) to make a strong and longer rope.

Hva er regnet for en full lengde? I Ålesund hadde vi en med 300 m lengde, i hht gamle foto. Fantastisk å se folk som håndterer så elegant gammelt håndverk. Flink jente det der.
300 meter, ja! En full lengde kveil er på 220 meter, og da må man gjerne opp i 300 meter. Mange reperbaner hadde en del av banen under tak, f.eks. 100 meter, og forlenget banen utendørs når været tillot det.

Yeah they better be donating that rope to needy minorities because if they sell it for profit they're exploiting their white privilege which is socially unfair and racist. I know this because my college professor told me so.
