  • A review of ICM's 1/35 scale, Mercedes-Benz Typ 770K Tourenwagen staff car, used by senior German leaders before, and during, WW2. This kit, No. 35533, is the initial release, from 2012.
This beautifully rendered model kit, features a highly detailed engine, running gear, and chassis components, with detailed interior and exterior fittings, instrument decals, optional raised, or lowered, windows, a multi part body shell, 5 piece tyres, and a Painting and Marking Guide for 4 vehicles.
Recommended for modellers with reasonable experience due to the many small parts, and the multi-part chassis, and body.

It is. Quite Detailed. Practicing my Gloss Black and Chrome painting skills in prep for this one. Cheers!

Excellent review Pete, I presume as you didn't show it, that there is no closed hood option? I have covered hoods in very fine tissue before to give a textured finish and I find it much preferable to smooth plastic.

Hi mate. No, there's no closed hood option on this one, although I have a some reference photos of a 770K with the top up, but, I think because this is essentially a 770K belonging to "that guy", ICM have gone with the top down look. The option would have been nice though. I was actually looking at this one the other day, thinking it's time I gave it a go. Cheers!

@@PetesKits Thanks Pete, I was actually thinking about doing "that guys" car and saw your review and build vids of the IBG BMW R12.

@@martinoconnor4314 The only thing I have to do before I start the 770K is practice more Gloss painting, which up to now, for me, has been a bit hit and miss. And perfect the colour, but that won't be so hard. Although ICM, and others, say to just use Gloss Black, the actual colour was Mercedes Benz Midnight Blue. Close to black, but with a bluish tone in certain light. I know in 1/35 it'll hardly be noticeable, but, worth doing anyway. Cheers!

@@PetesKits Now that you mention it I have never sprayed any gloss paint only gloss varnish but tbh I'm not that worried about it, you can make anything shine with enough coats of gloss clear. Thanks for the tip about the colour, Tamiya gloss black with a drop or two of dark blue sounds good for a slightly blue-ish black, subtle but hardly noticeable.

@@martinoconnor4314 Yep. That's pretty much the colour. It is fairly subtle but noticeable in certain light. It's also close to the colour combo that I use for a base on German field boots, and other black leather items, like belts, etc. Unless they're "Dress" items like highly polished officer's boots, and so on, most black leather tends to take on a bluish tinge over time, and I find this black/blue tone adds a bit of variety to uniforms, rather than straight black.

The "Palace" in the background looks like Stuttgart..just saying..

Very close. Found it the other day. It's Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam. Near to where I was going to stay last year when visiting Germany, except Covid cancelled all that. Cheers!
