@@TheReaverOfDarkness During the last stages starting with the crate run in the city. It was fun up until then. Cortex Castle is where the game fell hard for me. The final section of that is all I remember about Crash 4. The last boss fight was a breeze in comparison.

Well it doesnt help that this isnt REALLY a fair crash game in terms of completion. I mean their supposed to be fun to complete and this...was far from that.

Is it just me or does this Trailer seem more hateful than honest? I remember the old honest trailers where they were trying to be honest about games/movies in a very funny way. Now it feels like their critics, and think they 'know' what makes a good game/movie, and are just $hiting on a game/movie because they think their opinions are the same ones that everyone has, which they don't.
I can't remember a worse honest game trailer than this one, no solid criticisms or funny observations, just bitching and moaning.

I'm not surprised people wanted them to cover this, would be surprised if people thought they would like it because of their cemented hatred towards Crash Bandicoot in the past.
Spyro was always better.
I never wanted them to make it specifically because of their hatred. It's also why I don't want a Dragon Age honest trailer. I don't need to hear the insipid ramblings of some geek saying that the graphics in DA: Origins were bad.

As a person who grew up with the orginal games I would say we mastered it with knowing everything & almost run it with closed eyes.. But playing it again as an adult, I'm not sure how I did it as a kid xD

I think because when we were kids the concept of time didn’t really mean much to us when we were playing video games but now as adults we have to look at the clock because we have responsibilities

I loved Crash as a kid. Owned all 3 main games, Crash Team Racing, and Crash Bash. I even thought Crash was better than Mario 64. I was wrong, and I'm adult enough to admit that now.
Even though it's looks difficult, it's still challenging and fun.
And that's what I love about Crash 4: it's about time.

I've never even played a Crash Bandicoot game and even I thought this was harsh.
Also the whole "this might be offensive to our modern day crybaby sensibilities" has really gotten old. Just "suck it up" as you people like to say.
Apart from I've played the others and what he said is accurate. The difficulty is fake, relying on things that the player can't see, bad camera angles and requiring the player to collect crates in impossible to see locations. This isn't that it's just hard, it's just very badly designed to add fake difficulty and to drag it out, and that was apparently what the people who wanted this game wanted in the 4th one too.

I just think that the honest trailer is accurate, and that by today's standards the Crash games are just bad games, relying on fake difficulty and bad mechanics. If you need to replay through the entire game to collect every item to actually be able to reach the final boss, then that's bad game design. Especially if the crates are hidden in places you could only find by luck. Compared to other games in the same genre from the same time, it seems that very little time was spent thinking about the level design.

@@Finchspielberg I miss collectothon games. Where you have a basic story that doesn't need a ton of set up or anything and just go into the levels and try to find everything. Stuff like Banjo Kazooie.
@@truerockfan There are still games with platforming, and collectables and such. There are just few games that are specifically made the way platformers were in the 90's, because technology has come a long way. There are plenty of good games out there; you just want that nostalgia itch scratched.
"mild enthusiasm for the kart racer"? it only won best sports/racing game at the game awards last year, an award for which Mario Kart 8 was not even nominated if I remember correctly... and received 7 months of free updates on top of the 3 that were originally planned because there were waaay more people playing it than they expected.
I love crash bandicoot. It's just that we don't have the leisure of time to play it repetitively to get past a level, unlike when we were still kids where time doesn't matter.
It's the kind of game I would definitely let my kids play.
I've played a little bit of the classic crash games, but crash 4 was the only one that I completed(not 100%) and honestly....I thought it was actually an awesome game. Platforming felt so smooth imo. So I'm kinda just sitting here like.........what do you mean?? It was hard though, but I liked it anyway
All the crash games are good they are well made they are just really hard. I haven't beaten the first one got close but I did beat all of warped and tried 2. I can't wait to try the 4th crash it looks so good. Finally I get to play as dingodile again besides on crash bash. Which deserves a remake.
I think the entire genre is terrible, and so is the fake difficulty that pervades these awful games. But I can't argue with the fact that they used to be clunky, jerky, and had broken control systems, which made them so many times harder to enjoy.

@@dougsmith5013 I mean all of the games where they try to restrict player movement and field of view, and call it gameplay. So basically, pretty much the "3D platforming" genre, I suppose.
Say what you want about Crash, I enjoy the difficulty it brought. It’s always been about the journey, not just the destination, to me.

I don't think the design is outdated. I was having a blast up until that awful crate run to catch Neo Cortex. Cortexs Castle was even worse and left such a bad taste in my mouth. I rented it at release, finished it in a few days and don't even remember the ending. I was so frustrated by the very end of Cortex Castle. If you are not a pro at platformers, this game will crush you in it's final stages. I get why it sold badly but the Mardi Gras level was awesome and the time mechanic was fun until they ask you to combine it with another mechanic in a seconds notice.
...this sounds unnecessarily harsh towards the game and the fans. Wasn't aware about the box sales (though the pandemic might have something to do with it), but come on guys, the game is actually really good.

I’ll concede that each Crash game I’ve played has bad game design, but I find that it is mostly great stuff. They’ve all been a lot of fun. And honestly with Crash 4, the only bad game design is the box collecting. They really over did it with this one, but hey at least a modern game is actually challenging in some way, even if it is a little artificial

Honestly, Crash 4 is much more floaty and bs than the other 3 combined. Like the last proper level has a whole sequence you need to be pixel perfect for that lasts five minutes.

Finally, someone acknowledges Jak and Daxter! We need one more game to properly conclude the story!
Seeing how well Toys for Bob, Vicarious Visions and Beenox did with these Crash and Spyro games, I would be happy to see one of them tackle the next Jak and Daxter.
After all the Naughty dog of today does not have the same fellas as the Naughty dog that made the original Jak and Daxter games, no way of knowing if they can deliver on that kind of game these days.

Last of Us actually started as a Jak reboot.
I'm an old guy now. Does this kind of game feel dated? There's just not a lot of platformers anymore. I don't really understand that the game design is so different than say, a Mario game...
I know most games now are PvP and shooters/looters/sports games, but platforming is its own genre. I also know that most of the platformers out in the last decade or so are on travel systems or phones or steam.
Do people say crash 4 feels dated because:
1) it's a platformer and there's not much in that genre,
2) it's a platformer on a flagship system, or
3) if the game design is dated for real.
If number 3, what makes the game design dated?
I guess the script writers don't have good taste in platformers. Oh well, their loss
Personally, I think that these people mostly just do not understand how to like two different sides of the same coin
(Super Mario being more polished than Crash while Crash is more challenging than Super Mario)

The game barely does anything with its multiverse premise. You're just time traveling again, but time traveling in other universes.

I loved the old Crash games, but the new one is too difficult, I completed it but the moment of enjoyment were overshadowed by 20 times as many frustrating moments. The CTR remake however is now one of my favourite games EVER, it is absolutely fantastic.
Honest Trailers are funny parody ads that poke fun at games n movies. This video is literally just insulting a game that’s not even bad. To me it sounds like the writers suck at the game and wanna take their frustration out on it but it’s just kinda petty.
And dear comment reader, please do note that I’m all for making fun and insulting things that I myself enjoy, I really don’t care. But personally I feel as though the jokes here were not funny and it wasn’t honest, just mean.

I would have bought Crash 4...had it not been £52 or been available on the Switch. To be honest Crash 4 looks amazing.
It is amazing. This honest trailer seems Like a Personal grudge against the Crash series. The game also isnt that difficult If you go through the Stages. Only the 106 Percent can be a real nightmare.

Crash, spyro and Rayman 2 were among the best games of my childhood...I played ctr, The 1st , wrath of cortex, warped and crash bash ...while I always enjoy honest trailers, this one seemed like a jolt even though I haven't played about time
If Crash Bandicoot wasn't good then it wouldn't even have become Playstation's mascot in the first place in the 90s.

Brutal, but deserved. Just like the game itself. As a long time Crash fan, i was flabbergasted at how difficult the game can be sometimes. Levels are too long, too many boxes, purposefully placed boxes in blind spots in every level. I'm just too overwhelmed. Guess I'll always stick to the original trilogy plus some of the PS2 titles

but the sales will improve more than other games over time, especially once it gets to PC, just like the remastered trilogy
Plus they used physical sales for the statistics not digital and in 2020 digital sales are in the majority
Game still looks fun. Dunno if I'll attempt 100% completion, but for a casual playthrough, it looks fun. I told my self I'd get it after I was done with Persona 5 Royal. Then I failed to unlock the last part of the game after 118 hours because I didn't talk to the right people enough. So...going back in NG+ to actually finish the game.
Yeah, missing out on Marukis section sucks. I managed to get it since I saw you needed to do it on Reddit but I missed out on Akechis content which was annoying. Not a whole lot happens in the final segment but I'm not quite finished it yet so I could he wrong

Crash 4 is only down in physical sales due to the pandemic. Digitally, it's doing just as good overall as N. Sane. By the way N. Sane has sold over 12,000,000+ units. So even if Crash 4's sales really were down 80%, that's still FAR from a failure.
Not to mention, critically Crash 4 has one of the best scores in the entire series, rivaling the original critically acclaimed series and the kart racer which is often compared to and even agreed to be much superior to Mario Kart. So just admit you're salty that you're bad at Crash and move on.

Relax guys. Honest Game Trailers is just going through some PTSD and got salty because they couldn't make it through the first island on Crash 1 and rage quit, comparing the game to Dark Souls in terms of difficulty and switching to a casual easy game like Mario. They aren't hating on the franchise at all.
