looks great, I've been waiting on a video from you on this model. Still not decided yet on this model or stepping up to the onix ct si. Hope you will make some more videos soon so maybe i can decide on which model i want. Thanks Doug for all that you do with helping learn and understand the electronics !
I was. Doesn't matter the temperature Humminbird and it's staff is out testing in all conditions. It started sleeting & snowing before I got off the water.
The 9 & 10 are same physical outside dimensions but the screen is bigger on the 10 and the 10 has the highest pixel density of the HELIX series. I always say it's better to have than not have but get the biggest screen you can afford. never heard anyone say they wish they had a small unit.
Great info, you are the best at explaining ins and outs of HB units. Was wondering if you have any plans of doing video on G2n's, just got one on my new boat.
Doug, I’ve been using all your videos to learn my Helix 8”. Wow lots to learn still. Is there a reason I see a bunch of stuff on 2d but nothing on DI when I switch over or split screen it? Also, I have a fuzziness at the bottom. Looks like a thermocline, but not sure. Is there anything else that would cause a fuzzy band when using DI? Thank you and God Bless!
Hey Doug, how do you relate the image to your boats position? Is the scan image as it comes in from the right directly perpendicular to the transducer?
Top Center of the Screen is Boat Position. Bottom is oldest data. One of my First Videos I did is very good explanation of the image and boat position. Where I fold screen capture in half. Check it out. Bet it will help.
I have the1199 HD SI W/RC1 10 inch as my main unnit. What unit would you recommend for my Minn Kota Ultera trolling motor. I would like to not spend over $1000.
Doug, just went to the Humminbird Helix series SI & DI Mega 10 on the bow and 12 in the dash with the Ultrex trolling motor. Awesome to say the least.. Question. when foot on peddle and trolling, the DI pallet brown gets a lighter brown streaks of interference. Is there a way to clear this up..
Which transducer are you using for DI? The tear drop shaped one is only for the transom application and need the square block DO transducer that is made for trolling motor application. I have a video on that.
Doug, For the average bass angler who fishes shallow is the chirp upgrade worth it? I mean the 12 over the 10 screen is a plus, but the cost is huge. Also I am curious what RAM mount you are using on the 12?
+Jason Cyr CHIRP biggest benefits is over 10' depths or even deeper. The Ultimate Shallow Water sonar is 360 Imaging because it looks away from the boat not under it. CHIRP has the same coverage area as Traditional Single/Dual Frequency 2D Sonar Systems. I made a custom addition to my RAM D-111UC to hold both the ONIX 10 and HELIX 12
On my boat both of my helix 12 one in bow and one at dash have sonar interference and I can only have one transducer on at a time. Does anyone have a solution?
I've taken some snapshots today of my unit. My new Helix keeps locking up on the 360 as with the 1198 SI. I have no idea why it does this all the time.
Hey Doug..I just bought a helix 10 mega Si for the console and can't get the Di to return clear like yours is.... what sensitivity and contrast or other settings are you running to get such a clear return?
Depends on the water conditions I tweak my settings to match the conditions. Sensitivity up or down a little to match the needs. There is no one setting for all conditions.
Hey Doug, I know that you are a very busy man, looking at this 12 helix chirp DI for the TM. How big is the ducer for this unit? I may purchase a helix 12 chirp Si for the console as well.
Make sure you get the correct transducer. Use the Trolling Motor transducer not the standard package transom. It's small enough to fit the trolling motor.
Nice Doug, if you are running multiple frequencies and it hit one target, will it display multiple targets due to all the frequencies or just that one target on the screen?
I have a 1198c si it was working great but I was running down the lake and it shut off powered it back On now it will not go past the hummingbird loading screen.
Electronics do like being disconnected when powered and might have it locked. I would call Humminbird to get it in for a look or check your power supply. Make sure it's direct to the battery with soldered connections.
This is Truman Lake in the winter and the fish stack up and made for great sonar video. Thanks for the comments. And BTW I have done sonar recording that have become Simulator. Simulator are actual sonar recordings to help users learn how to use their units.
*I am mainly using this a a depth finder.>>>**allabout.wiki/tq35** and looking for submerged rock piles and structure. Not using the unit to locate fish currently. But it does have that capability for when I do want to use it.*
+Collin H CHIRP benefits excel in deeper water from what I have seen 15' + Range is where CHIRP is providing greater benefits for owners. Great Part with Humminbird you have the choice to turn ON/OFF CHIRP and use traditional sonar if you want. CHIRP will still provide data but the coverage area is smaller due to the shallow depth. For this video the fish were not shallow so I went to where the fish were living at that time.
What makes you think fish wont be there tomorrow? From my experience as a catfisherman, if there's fish there today, and there's a rock pile, hole, or other kind of attractant, chances are they're gonna be there some other time too.
Bravo!! Excellent video!

I love this video. One of my favorites from you so far. 👍❤️👊🏼
Just got my HELIX 7 installed on my flats boat Monday. Can’t wait to go to okeechobee this week to try it out
finally you realized that chart and ping are LINKED. !!!!! ive been correcting this "" set chart speed at boat speed" myth for years.
Ping is actually linked to water depth and the software automatically adjusts ping rate to water depth in a Humminbird.
This video is hilarious. You look like you are freezing your ass off Doug. I have a Helix 12 and 10 and love them so far man.
I was. Doesn't matter the temperature Humminbird and it's staff is out testing in all conditions. It started sleeting & snowing before I got off the water.
How do you like the helix 10 looking to get one the mega and now sure is I should get the 10 or the 9 there is a $400 difference

Just added a new G2N MEGA Imaging Video last night

Hey Doug, how do you relate the image to your boats position? Is the scan image as it comes in from the right directly perpendicular to the transducer?
Which type of sonar? Down Imaging and 2D is directly below the transducer. SI is from the transducer location and outward to the sides.
@@DougVahrenberg I was referring to the side scan.

The HELIX G2N series units are a great choice. Just depends on screen size and sonar technologies you want at the bow.

Change Frequencies so they are not running the same or suspend sonar if they cross talk
Great job dude! Send me one!
Great videos you put out! Thanks. (Also, I cannot tell your voice from Denny Brauer's. Little tid-bit there:)
Denny use to live not far away when he lived in Missouri.
I've taken some snapshots today of my unit. My new Helix keeps locking up on the 360 as with the 1198 SI. I have no idea why it does this all the time.
I would call Humminbird 800-633-1468
Doug do you have to buy the 360 transducer along with this unit
360 Imaging is an Optional Accessory that has to be purchased
Hey Doug..I just bought a helix 10 mega Si for the console and can't get the Di to return clear like yours is.... what sensitivity and contrast or other settings are you running to get such a clear return?

If I have a Helix 12 with Chrip networked to Helix 10, will the Chrip image be available on the Helix 10?
CHIRP is not shareable to non-chirp units
What is the transducer model for this image?
That transducer is the Standard Package Transducer that comes with the HELIX 12 (Gen1) CHIRP DI model
Hey Doug, I know that you are a very busy man, looking at this 12 helix chirp DI for the TM. How big is the ducer for this unit? I may purchase a helix 12 chirp Si for the console as well.

I have the XNT 9 SI 180 T from my 899. I can use this one, but will not be able to chirp???
That is not a DI transducer that is Side Imaging
I boxed up the ducer that came with the helix 12 to HB today. I have given another 32.00 to swap out for the TM ducer XTM9WIDE 20T
Got the TM transducer in today for the Helix 12 DI/GPS Chirp. I don't suppose that you might have a short video for the chirp on the TM???
Nice Doug, if you are running multiple frequencies and it hit one target, will it display multiple targets due to all the frequencies or just that one target on the screen?
It will display as the same data on the screen since it is at the same distance.

Electronics do like being disconnected when powered and might have it locked. I would call Humminbird to get it in for a look or check your power supply. Make sure it's direct to the battery with soldered connections.
Ok thanks
Palette the colors.what remenbers 1 o 5
Can you tell me how to turn off the BEEPS on the Helix 12 Chirp?
I would have to look at unit but there is setting or the audible alarm to turn it up or down.
Does this have Side imaging?
HELIX 12 CHIRP DI is a Down Imaging & 2D Sonar Unit. You Would need the SI version to get Side Imaging too.
Is this the G2N with mega scan? Or the first generation?
That is the Gen1 HELIX 12 CHIRP but the same 2D Sonar as the G2N Models now.
That has to be one of the most overstocked lakes in the world,,, sure its not in simulation mode .?
This is Truman Lake in the winter and the fish stack up and made for great sonar video. Thanks for the comments. And BTW I have done sonar recording that have become Simulator. Simulator are actual sonar recordings to help users learn how to use their units.
How the heck is there that much fish for the distance u we’re driving my lake must really freaking suck I never see that
*I am mainly using this a a depth finder.>>>**allabout.wiki/tq35** and looking for submerged rock piles and structure. Not using the unit to locate fish currently. But it does have that capability for when I do want to use it.*
i noticed you are in 49 ft of water is that chirp's strong point? Deep water?

Why do you take screen shots, fish won't be able to there tomorrow
To help others

Doesn't my Onix have CHIRP?
+Three Swords If you add the SM3000 Black Box and Airmar CHIRP transducer ONIX can CHIRP.
With the latest Software ONIX can now CHIRP too. Without adding additional accessories or changing the transducer.
