I don’t know how to tell you this, but you should look up and learn about the people actually behind these stories. They don’t have a massive hate boner for Spider-Man, and they’re not a magical boogeyman known as ‘the writers’. If anything, the people who steer good writers into a bad direction, or dictate what stores are or aren’t allowed to be told are the people on charge at the top of Marvel itself.
I’m not saying the current mainline Spider-Man book is good or even passable, but there are different people working behind the book and it being the way it is isn’t their decision.
Also, Chip Zdarsky (the writer of this Daredevil book) has written Spider-Man very well in two very well made side series, which are where the real stories are told anyways. Read Peter Parker: Spectacular Spider Man and Spider-Man life story

It's because the writers of Spiderman comics need to push the boundaries and keep things fresh. They've got to introduce new obstacles for him to overcome and push the envelope each time to get different reactions.
When he's a side character he doesn't need a story to revolve around him, so he can sorta just be himself.

SM is one of those heroes who seems to almost never get "too big for his britches" as it were.
Many other heroes escalate their threats and enemies to almost hilarious levels to the point where they are regularly contending with beings they have no business contending with in terms of the power scaling difference. Spider-Man is almost the opposite; he's hanging around a relatively low-power area fighting villains who shouldn't really be able to keep up with him, but he's constantly hamstringing and handicapping himself to avoid seriously hurting them, meaning they get infinite chances to try again.

Spider-Man is essentially what Superman is, but in a different way. Superman is a symbol that inspires hope, Spider-Man is someone who also inspires hope, but he isn’t someone who can fly or shoot lasers and always there to be the big strong muscle guy that defeats all evil supervillains and aliens. He’s also a guy, a guy who’ll annoy you with something that interests him, fanboy over a superhero he looks up to, joke with bad guys after they failed to rob a bank. He’s your neighbor and a friend, and if he’s your friend. He’s gonna be honest with you, not because you might not like it, but because he knows it’ll better yourself.

Spiderman isn't the most powerful marvel hero by any stretch, but he's far higher up there than most people give him credit for. He may not be able to arm wrestle Thor or Captain Marvel but he's still stronger than almost all but the top tier brick characters and being hyper intelligent, quick witted, and having danger sense + absurd reflexes and agility lets him punch well above his already considerable weight class. He could kick the shit out of probably a good 80% of the non-diety level Marvel characters just physically speaking, and most of the rest he could outsmart and outplay.

If I remember right, they analyzed Batman and all his major injuries (such as having his back broken by Bane) and it was like 5-8 years, TOPS, I think. Although I think that was starting at 18? Since he had to train so much from ~8 when his parents died and “mastered every martial art” and detective skills and even learned from a magician and taught himself how to have an eidetic memory, iirc. So they were kinda generous and were just like, “this is impossible but let’s say it took him 10 years to train so he can start in peak condition.”
But yeah, anyway, I don’t think it’s even your lower estimate. Now, if we somehow just MAGIC the skills, ALL the skills Batman learned, AND PEAK PHYSICAL condition even possibly attainable assuming PERFECT genetics… we could maybe start him at like 14, and even then he wouldn’t get 15 years to operate at that level, because that’s just how much damage he’s taken. I think you could probably push it to ~12 years, tops. And that’s if you start even more impossibly young. And Bruce (and Matt Murdock) are supposed to just be guys. Like, presumably an average guy with roughly average genetics… so in theory, they wouldn’t even get that.
Again, while using magic to give them perfect skills and physiques for their genes early. You’d literally have to enhance their genes as well, since they’re supposed to represent average dudes at peak, not peak genetics at peak. So like, maybe 10 years is still too generous for them WITH a MAGIC HANDICAP.

@@Paradox-es3bl how OFTEN did they assume these injuries were happening? Cuz I always imagined these heroes don’t even deal with like street crime on every single patrol. I kinda figured, outside of major arcs, 5 nights out of the week were pretty quiet, either basic thugs that couldn’t touch him or stuff the police already have under control.
Then some cook from his rogues gallery pops up like, every few months? Cuz these guys gotta break out of Arkham, get to their safehouse, pull their gang back together cuz I can’t imagine any of, say, Mr. Freeze’s mooks staying together when he gets put away, and that’s assuming they don’t all get locked up and have to be replaced. Like, outside of major disaster arcs Batman doesn’t have a packed schedule of Joker on Wednesday and Sunday, Penguin on Tuesday, Bane on Friday, Ridler on Thursday, Saturday is his agreed night off, and let’s not forget Solomon Grundee, born on a Mondee. Not to say getting the ever loving shit beat out of him by Bane or his legs frozen solid by Freeze are easy on the body, I just always figured major villain stuff was like, every few months unless stated otherwise.

I don’t remember if he’s technically an actual member of the Avengers but he DOES have friends and associates who should have access to the same levels of magic and technology. What’s forcing him to retire in this scene I think isn’t actually his injuries but his mental state.

Spider-Man’s initial strength was 10 tons, but in the years since his creation, Spider-Man has performed feats of strength that significantly exceeded that limit. He’s held up the Daily Bugle, a corner of Penn Station and even caught a falling elevator by the cables.
His clone, Kaine can lift up to 40 tons and, while he was still significantly stronger than Otto’s “Superior Spider-Man”, Octavius was still able to push Peter’s body to the point where he stay competitive. He’s proven to be physically stronger than Miles*, who’s also listed as being able to lift 10 tons and at one point lifted upwards of 15 tons on a regular basis. All this hints at unrealized potential, limited by his immense restraint while fighting villains - even villains as strong as Scorpion and Green Goblin.
Like Superman, he psychologically limits himself and doesn’t know how strong he can be when he cuts loose simply because it’s so rare of an occurrence that he hasn’t had time to figure it out.
*Physically stronger doesn’t mean more powerful. Miles has powers he doesn’t and, while his spider sense is less developed, that could be simply a gap in his experience.

Peter is damn harsh when circumstances call for it. If it had been Cap or any other Boy Scout, he would have given an hour-long moral lecture. But the spider acted like a real hero who understands the situation in which Matt found himself and the consequences. You're done. No more words are needed.

This is something that's bothered me for a long time.
A police officer is given not just the authority to act in the service of society, but the training and equipment as well. This, IMHO, is the main argument against playing vigilante in real life. A vigilante won't have the authority, the training, or the equipment to do what a police officer does. Thus, a vigilante would only get in a police officer's way.
So why do superheroes get away with being vigilantes?
With the first and greatest of them all, it's because he has to. Faster than a speeding bullet, more powerful than a locomotive, and nothing less than an artillery shell can so much as bruise his skin -- Superman is so powerful that he HAS to act. If any police officer gets hurt or killed on the job, it becomes Superman's fault -- because he could have done the job so much better.
But going down the superhero power scale, this becomes less justifiable. Spider-Man is powerful, but nothing like as powerful as Superman. Does making it up to Uncle Ben really oblige him to bounce around New York looking for trouble?
And then there are guys like Daredevil, who have no power to speak of. DD is like Batman Lite -- and Batman, by my reckoning, gets a superhero pass only because he has the training and the support he needs to become a one-man CSI/SWAT system for Gotham City. Daredevil has none of that. So why does Daredevil insist on playing superhero?

    • @enderduck4253
      @enderduck4253 5 місяців тому +2

Daredevil does have a similar degree of training to Batman, often being something of a one man army himself and does have super powers. He is as much of a superhero as the others.
If this were the real world, then maybe I'd see the point in your argument against vigilantism. But these are comics. They don't just create superheroes, they create situations for them.
The cops could never take down the Hand or the Green Goblin. Vigilantism like that from Spider-Man and Daredevil is completely justified in fiction because as long as a superhero exists, there is a situation in which they're needed.

really good voice acting in this scene. It was wonderfully dramatized. My only complaint is the last scene. I just can't see Spiderman plodding out of the apartment with such loud footsteps that the foley artists gave him. Daredevil even commented on how "impossibly quiet" Spiderman was earlier. I know it was probably done for dramatic effect, but it just didn't fit the scene.

I'm confused, the way DD said *"the best of us"* and Spidey's *"spread the word"* , implied that they're both from a larger organization, or atleast, a voluntary community. It can't be the Avengers, cuz strong or not, both Spidey and DD are still street level heroes. It also can't be Midtown Gang, since Spidey looks so mature.
Is there any vigilante faction in Marvel that also included both DD and Spidey in it?

This dub as great, please do the follow up to this scene in a later issue where Matt tells Peter off. As much as I love this confrontation, there's a lot of context and nuance behind it that the comments don't seem to get. This is a daredevil book and spidey ended up coming off as kind of a tool because he had some moral high horse when he arguably did something worse, then broke into matt's home, and threatened him. Spider-Man is not the hero here. Daredevil was wrong but Spidey was being an asshole. Also, future advice, include the original comic source. I encourage everyone to read this run of Daredevil it's by Chip Zdarsly it started in 2019 and is a modern classic.

You know that was an asshole thing for me to say man, and I genuinely apologize. No disrespect was intended at all.
Now age may not have bearing on voice, but hardship does. Spidey has been doing what he does since he was fifteen. The stress and tragedy and tiredness would definitely have his voice deeper. Like Keaton's CEO Of Alchemax in Edge of Time. That's a personal preference of mine because for so long Spidey has been reduced to being a young teenager instead of allowing to grow as a man.
