Oh, the tears are flowing. The memories are so thick, just hearing the opening few seconds. I was just a little girl, living with my sisters and my mom, we had almost nothing (not even a fridge for a while) but we had food on the table and we had good music. Thanks for keeping this great music alive. Love from Canada.
That's so touching. I was maybe 13, we were poor but not as poor as your family. But when I heard those wonderful Badfinger songs on my older sister's transistor radio -- it helped take away the sting. Took me to a more beautiful place.
I can't. This song reminds me of riding down the road, sitting on the armrest (because it's what we did), with my dad. I must have been 5 or so. I miss those days.
Jamel, there were 2 suicides in this band. Pete in '75, Tom Evans in '83. It's important to remember that just because someone's big on the radio, internet or TV, even showing off a grand lifestyle, they may still be getting screwed really hard. In Badfinger's case, they were just young dudes, thrilled to be working with Beatles, being billed as "the next Beatles," getting to tour nicely, etc. Meanwhile, their business manager had them on stipends, all living in the same house for a long time, and criminally mismanaging their money in the guise of "protecting them" from their own "financial naivete." In the end, practically all the money was gone. It's one of the most tragic tales in rock music.
This is the best reaction of any song ever. His realization that the song is so reminiscent of The Beatles sound and then when hearing Harrison's weeping guitar in the middle, it hits him, it is priceless.
Oh, I know. I love how you can see in his face that he is completely mesmerized right from the beginning. Which is absolutely appropriate, because this is an amazing song.

And, the Badfinger song "Come and Get It" was written by Paul McCartney. He recorded, the drums, bass, guitar and rough vocals before band practice one day. He handed it to the Badfinger guys and said, don't mess with it, it is a hit. (Of course I'm going by memory about this story)
Badfinger were one of the very first acts to record at the Beatles studio Apple records in Abbey Road. Other songs include ''No Matter What'' and ''Baby Blue''. Such a tragic end for a band that had phenomenal talent. R.I.P. Pete Ham.
Badfinger was brought into the Beatles inner-circle by Mal Evans, their Roadie and Personal Assistant, in 1968. They were known as the Iveys then but they changed their name to "Badfinger" based on a working title of one of the Beatles demos for "With a Little Help From My Friends". Badfinger was the first band signed by The Beatles to their new record label, Apple Records. Paul McCartney gave them one of his songs to help them get a hit, a song called "Come and Get It", which was a hit for them in 1970. Badfinger is very influenced by the Beatles and were on the Apple label until 1973. George Harrison produced Day After Day, so there is a strong Beatles connection with this band. Check out their song "No Matter What"! That is a great Badfinger song!

And covered again by Mariah Carey, an almost carbon copy of the Harry Nilsson version.

First band signed to Apple records, they worked individually with each of them, guitar on Harrison's All Things Must Pass, and on Lennon's IMagine album, sang back up on RIngo's It Don't Come Easy, Paul wrote COme and Get it. They also were the acoustic section at Harrison's COncert for Bangla Desh, and Pete Ham accompanied him on Here Comes the Sun. Greatest concert I ever attended. Second favorite all time band

Paul wrote "Come and Get It" for them as they were the first band on the Beatles' Apple label. They wanted to take it and do their own thing with it and he told them, no, do it just like I wrote it and you'll have a hit. If you hear the demo from Paul you'll see they did it exactly like he wrote it and it sure enough was a hit.
Is that George Harrison on guitar?? They were his 'backing band' at the Concert for Bangladesh.....long sad story. They were on Apple and Paul wrote their first hit. (Come and Get It)
Harrison did play on this track. And members of Badfinger had played on Harrison's album, All Things Must Pass. The Concert for Bangladesh was incredible. Musically, that concert was almost otherworldly in just how good it was and the blend of all the musical talent who played on it.. When Claudia Lennear was interviewed about that show she said, "That show was just something that was cosmic. If you were there to experience it, it will be something you'll take to the grave." Brother, I’m of West Indian culture, born & raised in England, and I’ve always loved Bad Finger. It’s was a huge lift to my soul after listening to your response to this FANTASTIC track “Day after Day”. Thank you. SW.
"Come and Get It" written by Paul McCartney, who in addition to writing most of the Beatles #1 hits also wrote hits for other groups. He's just a hit machine.
My all time favorite Badfinger song! Thank u Jamal for getting around to this. Their best tune in my opinion, and a song I loved hearing growing up in the 70s. I'll never forget summertime carnivals in my NJ hometown, they would have great rock & roll piped thru loudspeakers all over the fairgrounds, and this was one of the songs in regular play way back when. I'll always associate it with those long ago childhood summer nights and fireworks shows at the fair in the early 70s 😎✌☮💕💖
@@BobbyGeneric145 it really is/was. And this song just hit me in a special way when I first heard it, and it represents the magic of my childhood more than any other song. It's just always been special to me. 😎☮✌
Mike Gibbins - the drummer - lived in Oviedo, Florida when he died. His wife was a realtor. My wife got to meet him and have drinks with him at Froggers (local bar). She went to the funeral and the last surviving member - Joey Molland - spoke. The last song they played was "Without You". She said there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also get No matter what, and Baby blue !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great musicians, great backing vocals, great songs. The story behind the piano playing parts is epic!
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!! Badfinger...There are no words to describe just how amazing this group was...Timeless, but, such a tragic story😪 I have my collection of Badfinger on vinyl and I only have 2 more to get and my collection will be complete✌❤🎶
"Day After Day" was released when I was in high school (yes, I'm old) and this really takes me back. This song has always reminded me of meeting my wife in 1972 (my senior year in high school). She completely blew me away. It took a few years of longing on my part (day after day...) but we were married in 1976 and we are still happily married 48 years later. 70s music is the BEST! Thanks for the memories.
Everyone is suggesting Baby Blue, Come and Get it & No Matter What for good reasons, but less known songs like Sometimes, Take It All, Perfection & It’s Over are worthy. They also wrote and recorded Without You, which a lot of artists, including Mariah Carey covered.
Their problem was no money. They were churning out great hits but their evil manager ripped them off. They were destitute. Such a sad story. They were so talented and Ham/Evans were great songwriters... such a loss.
@@johnleader8737 The first band signed to Apple was Focal Point. Their song “Sycamore Sid” was actually released on Deram records. I think Badfinger were the first group, outside of the Beatles themselves, to actually release product under the Apple label.
There are a couple of Badfinger documentaries out there that explain a lot of what these poor guys went through. One of the documentaries was done by the BBC... The song "Without You" that was made famous by Harry Nilsson and later recorded by Mariah Carey was actually a Badfinger song. Check it out. "Baby Blue", "Come And Get It", and "No Matter What" are also definitely worth checking out. Def Leppard did a cover of "No Matter What". Badfinger appeared on Kenny Rogers' TV Show in the early 70s to perform "Baby Blue"; a video shows a very young KR introduce the band. Very sad fate suffered by this band, but all of these years later, their music endures.
RIP the three members of Badfinger Pete Ham (April 27, 1947 - April 24, 1975), aged 27 Tom Evans (June 5, 1947 - November 19, 1983), aged 36 Mike Gibbins (March 12, 1949 - October 4, 2005), aged 56 You will always be remembered as legends.
You are on point today!! Badfinger ♥️🔥 OMG my teen years again 🎸🎤 George Harrison helped produce and played on this song which was their last hit in 1972 ♥️
Herbert Norkus it was a last ditch effort by them after tragedy & poor management. Pete Ham hung himself in 1975 when he couldn’t take the financial pressures anymore after their manager stole their money. The remaining members tried to put something together in the late 70’s & early 80’s but had no real backing or management. The band was soon done. Then in 1983 Tom Evans hung himself 8 years after his best friend Pete had done the same thing 😞 This was a tragic ending for a band that could have been very successful 😢
I attended Upper Iowa College in 1971. Upper Iowa is a small private college located in NE Iowa. Badfinger played at an indoor concert there. The Band even had their picture in our yearbook. We were so backward then, that we wore suits to the concert. Jamel, you brought me back to my first concert, thank you.
Favorite Badfinger song! I have always appreciated the change in timing and break in harmony of the “dayyyy after dayyyyy: at 4:01. Reminds me of the delay in “i saw her........I saw her again last nighhhtt” by The Mammas and Pappas. The song is great on its own but that “seemingly subtle” change in timing really gives the song a unique signature.
Another great group to discover, had several great songs, kind of like the Hollies. More rabbit holes to go down on both of these groups. Another one to check out are the Grass Roots. You're gettin good, JJ!
Yes! The Grass Roots would be a great one for him to cover. An assembled group, though not like tho Monkees. The Grass Roots were actually a musical group that were doing ok locally. They were turned into the Grass Roots and became successful.
Always loved this band. They sounded similar to the Beatles. “No Matter What You Do” is another great song of theirs. You can hear that signature Harrison guitar.
Great band, really sad story about their group. A couple members committed suicide. Try No Matter What You Do, Come and Get It, Baby Blue, etc. They were on Apple records or recorded at Abbey Road I'm pretty sure. George Harrison produced Day after Day.
Brother, I love your videos! Music crosses all boundaries. George and Peter Ham were the best of friends. I'm 59 and as white as you can get but I love all music as long as it's good. In the 70's I was a huge Motown fan. My buddies gave me crap because I listened to Earth Wind and Fire, Commodores, the Spinners, Gladys, Aretha along with Boston, Eagles, Styx etc. I played violin and trombone and I knew great music when I heard it! Thank you brother! May God bless you and yours. David
Thank you for reviewing this song by one of my favorite bands. I wouldn't expect a review of "Money" or "Sweet Tuesday Morning", they probably wouldn't fit your channel, but in your spare time you should give them a listen.
They were on The Beatles' label at the time. They started out as The Iveys and John Lennon came up with the name Badfinger. George produced the track also. There's a lot of melancholy in the lyrics when you consider the fate of Pete Ham. Their manager should burn in hell.
@@ldbagwell Hung himself...as did Tom Evans some years later. They weren't making any money as a result of their manager screwing them over. Their last album, Wish You Were Here, being pulled from the shelves early in it's release finally broke Pete. They had left Apple Records a couple of years earlier in the wake of The Beatles' breakup. By the way, Wish You Were Here is a great album.
Come and Get It" Badfinger, or "No Matter What" Badfinger. The band was called The Iveys. Mal Evans the Beatles roadie, discovered them. Within 6 years Mal and the two songwriters of Badfinger were dead.
Nilsson was great I want see Jemels reaction to Coconut... recorded with them wearing fake gorilla suits! Classically funny and weird along with being a great song.
The baseline in "Jump into the Fire" will give him the "Stankface" for sure. He has to play the long version tho! Actually ALL of Harry Nilsson is worth reacting to!!

One of my all-time favorites. This cut was produced by George Harrison and he plays slide guitar on it too. The band was on Apple records; they had a tragic past though
Badfinger...great band. Pete Ham was an epic singer/songwriter/musician. George Harrison was so impressed with Pete's guitar skills that he asked him to play at the Bangladesh Concert. The most heartbreaking story in music. There's a video on youtube about what happened to Pete and Tommy. Pete would have written so many brilliant songs. He wrote "Without You" and it was recorded by a lot of different artists. RIP Pete and Tommy.
RIP Pete Ham and Tom Evans Your Voices and Harmonies is part of the Sound Track of my Life i was a Kid when i heard of Pete's Death and still remember it to this Day.
One of my few requests......ty for reacting. The group formed in Wales England. Bad Finger influenced the Power Pop in the early 1970's. Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits from 1970 to 1972..do hope you get these as well.
You hit the nail right on the head with your Beatles reference. Badfinger, more than any other band maybe besides Squeeze, were supposed to carry the Beatles torch after they broke up. Great, great band, super talented.
Badfinger is a spectacular band, Peter is an exceptional vocalist and guitarist. One of my favorites, they are so much more than their hits and Wish You Were Here is a lost masterpiece. Meanwhile Back At The Ranch is worth checking out.
Badfinger ( Pete Ham, Tom Evans, Joey Molland and Mike Gibbins) had four consecutive worldwide hits from 1970 to 1972: "Come and Get It" (written and produced by Paul McCartney, 1970), "No Matter What" (produced by Mal Evans, 1970), "Day After Day" (produced by George Harrison, 1971), and "Baby Blue" (produced by Todd Rundgren, 1972). Their song "Without You" (1970) has been recorded many times, and became a US and UK number-one hit for Harry Nilsson and, two decades later, a UK number-one for Mariah Carey. After Apple Records folded in 1973, Badfinger struggled with a host of legal, managerial, and financial problems, leading to Ham's suicide in 1975. The surviving members struggled to rebuild their personal and professional lives against a backdrop of lawsuits, which tied up the songwriters' royalty payments for years. Their subsequent albums floundered, as Molland and Evans alternated between co-operation and conflict in their attempts to revive and capitalise on the Badfinger legacy. In 1983, Evans died by suicide. Gibbins died in 2005, leaving Molland as the group's only surviving member.
This song has always found it's way onto my mixs/playlists for years (radio to cassette tape, burned cds, mp3s and on to numerous spotify lists) , absolutely love it.
Nice! Just happened to add this track to my Spotify playlist FRISSON COLLECTION, just yesterday. Beatles feel, indeed. If memory serves, Badfinger was a band that Paul McCartney tipped to the record company.
"Day After Day" was written and sung by Pete Ham and produced by George Harrison,[2] who plays some of the slide guitar parts of the song along with Ham.[3] The record also features Leon Russell on piano. As the song was unfinished at the time Harrison left the Badfinger album to produce the Concert for Bangladesh, the final mix was done by Todd Rundgren, who took over Straight Up after Harrison's departure.

@@SignificantOtherProd Badfinger preferred the Nilsson recording to their own.
Paul McCartney said ..Without you .was the best love song ever written🎵🎶👍
Brother, I’m of West Indian culture, born & raised in England, and I’ve always loved Bad Finger. It’s was a huge lift to my soul after listening to your response to this FANTASTIC track “Day after Day”.
Thank you. SW.
You must do “No Matter What”, “Baby Blue” and “Come And Get It”
Yep!
"Come and Get It" written by Paul McCartney, who in addition to writing most of the Beatles #1 hits also wrote hits for other groups. He's just a hit machine.
Also name of the game
You forgot about Rock Of All Ages!!!!!!! 🎸
@@hzv7242 Your taking all my money but I guess you think it's funny but I don't 🎵🎼🎶🎸
So happy you enjoyed this one! I highly recommend checking out “Without You” by Badfinger. They did this song before Harry Nilsson, Mariah Carey, etc.
Thats a great setting to picture!
Harrison did play slide guitar on the song.
He was also the producer.
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also get No matter what, and Baby blue !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Great musicians, great backing vocals, great songs. The story behind the piano playing parts is epic!
They recorded at Apple Studios with a lot of the same personnel as the Beatles.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!!!
Badfinger...There are no words to describe just how amazing this group was...Timeless, but, such a tragic story😪
I have my collection of Badfinger on vinyl and I only have 2 more to get and my collection will be complete✌❤🎶
Todd Rundgren - I Saw The Light and Hello It's Me
Absolutely!
Couldn't I Just Tell You...
I think he did "Hello It's Me".
Also
"We Gotta Get You A Woman"
"Can We Still Be Friends"
And the Nazz "Open My Eyes"
Tip of the iceberg with Rundgren..
Their were two members in Badfinger who committed suicide!!! Really sad
Everyone is suggesting Baby Blue, Come and Get it & No Matter What for good reasons, but less known songs like Sometimes, Take It All, Perfection & It’s Over are worthy. They also wrote and recorded Without You, which a lot of artists, including Mariah Carey covered.
Fab, been waiting to suggest Badfinger. They have a few winners! Sad story for the members of the band.... Beautiful song.
Their problem was no money. They were churning out great hits but their evil manager ripped them off. They were destitute. Such a sad story. They were so talented and Ham/Evans were great songwriters... such a loss.
Jamal, Badfinger was signed to the Beatles label Apple records. George Harrison produced this record.
They were actually the 1st act signed to the label.
@@johnleader8737 The first band signed to Apple was Focal Point. Their song “Sycamore Sid” was actually released on Deram records. I think Badfinger were the first group, outside of the Beatles themselves, to actually release product under the Apple label.
Harrison started producing it, then he left to go do the concert for Bangladesh so Todd Rundgren finished production.
Beatle George on electric guitar and Leon Russell on piano!!!
Other Badfinger songs to consider: Baby Blue, Name of the Game, and Apple of My Eye.
I like "No Matter What "
RIP the three members of Badfinger
Pete Ham (April 27, 1947 - April 24, 1975), aged 27
Tom Evans (June 5, 1947 - November 19, 1983), aged 36
Mike Gibbins (March 12, 1949 - October 4, 2005), aged 56
You will always be remembered as legends.
J, Great vocals also on "Baby Blue", "No Matter What" and "Love Is Gonna Come At Last"
Love Badfinger, especially No Matter What You Want. And Can't Live Without You.
George produced this session and played that slide lead.
"Perfection" is my favorite Badfinger song. They are a much better band than given credit for.
Perfection is a gem of a song. Heck...every song on Straight Up is great!
Always loved this band. They sounded similar to the Beatles. “No Matter What You Do” is another great song of theirs. You can hear that signature Harrison guitar.
One of the songs from my senior prom in May 1973. Still as fresh today as it was then.
David
They wrote WITHOUT YOU. Which everybody has recorded.
The Niilson song?
That’s correct - the same one that was made a smash hit by Nilsson, Mariah Carey and others.
I was just going to add this same comment. lol
@bodeswell35
I prefer Nilsson's but Mariah's version is the only cover I like.
@bodeswell35 Nilsson Schmilsson
What happened to Pete?
ldbagwell He committed suicide
@@ldbagwell Hung himself...as did Tom Evans some years later. They weren't making any money as a result of their manager screwing them over. Their last album, Wish You Were Here, being pulled from the shelves early in it's release finally broke Pete. They had left Apple Records a couple of years earlier in the wake of The Beatles' breakup.
By the way, Wish You Were Here is a great album.
Named after Ivey Place, which is the road the main railway station in Swansea is on.
There's a plaque to Pete Ham on the station concourse.
@@SuperForkbeard Pete was so talented
Come and Get It" Badfinger, or "No Matter What" Badfinger. The band was called The Iveys. Mal Evans the Beatles roadie, discovered them. Within 6 years Mal and the two songwriters of Badfinger were dead.
Could you please react to Harry Nilsson? "Without you" and "Jump into the Fire"?
Nilsson was great I want see Jemels reaction to Coconut... recorded with them wearing fake gorilla suits! Classically funny and weird along with being a great song.
The baseline in "Jump into the Fire" will give him the "Stankface" for sure. He has to play the long version tho! Actually ALL of Harry Nilsson is worth reacting to!!
@@donalddixon6541
Drum solo, although fairly vanilla, would also get him moving.
@@donalddixon6541 you can climb the mountain...
@@diananickel3086 You can swim the sea!!
This has George Harrison's style written all over it, if you listen to My Sweet Lord and What is Life.
George Harrison worked with Pete Ham on this track. They both played the slide guitar on the recording.
Well he did produce it lol
Hey Jamal....I get a kick out of watching you enjoy these tunes. Makes me smile. Music brings us together!
Dude, I freaking LOVE this channel. You are so open and so insightful. It's really refreshing to watch someone discover the great music of our history. Keep it up Jamel!
When I was younger, I noticed the similarity to the Beatles, not knowing it was produced by George Harrison. I would have been about 20 years old.
I am back at a high school dance, 1974. Every band knew this song. What great times we had back then. I miss them sonetimes.
Someone inform me pls, I think they did the soundtrack for Ringo's movie "The Magic Christian". Am I right?
Yes they did, it featured Come and Get it written by Paul McCartney.
@@jglasernyc Thanks! In addition to Jamel's wonderful reactions and big heart, I love to learn details from my fellow Boomers about music I love listening to.
Yes!! I learn alot from people commenting. 😊🥰
Yes!! I learn alot from people commenting. 😊🥰
Yes they totally did.
One of my all-time favorites. This cut was produced by George Harrison and he plays slide guitar on it too. The band was on Apple records; they had a tragic past though
If you like this song, check out their other music. “Baby Blue”, No Matter What”. Those are great too! 😎
Sad what became of them.
I’ve always loved these guys. One of their songs was used in the series finale of Breaking Bad. They did have a Beatles vibe.
Lucky Man by Emerson Lake and Palmer has to be Next.
Badfinger...great band. Pete Ham was an epic singer/songwriter/musician. George Harrison was so impressed with Pete's guitar skills that he asked him to play at the Bangladesh Concert. The most heartbreaking story in music. There's a video on youtube about what happened to Pete and
Tommy. Pete would have written so many brilliant songs. He wrote "Without You" and it was recorded by a lot of different artists. RIP Pete and Tommy.
"DAY AFTER DAY"
"COME AND GET IT"- written by Paul McCartney
"NO MATTER WHAT"
"Name of the Game"
"No Matter What", one of the most underrated songs in rock, great guitar riffs too.
RIP Pete Ham and Tom Evans Your Voices and Harmonies is part of the Sound Track of my Life i was a Kid when i heard of Pete's Death and still remember it to this Day.
My older sister played this all the time. 😆
One of my few requests......ty for reacting. The group formed in Wales England. Bad Finger influenced the Power Pop in the early 1970's. Badfinger had four consecutive worldwide hits from 1970 to 1972..do hope you get these as well.
Check out "Without You" by Harry Nilsson. Not the version by Mariah!
A beautiful song written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of Badfinger.
Or check out Badfinger's original version of it.
You hit the nail right on the head with your Beatles reference. Badfinger, more than any other band maybe besides Squeeze, were supposed to carry the Beatles torch after they broke up. Great, great band, super talented.
Reminds me of period bands like Hamilton, Joe Frank, and Reynolds.
@ted ritola I love that song, too. They had a few great songs. That was their best, though.
Badfinger is a spectacular band, Peter is an exceptional vocalist and guitarist. One of my favorites, they are so much more than their hits and Wish You Were Here is a lost masterpiece. Meanwhile Back At The Ranch is worth checking out.
Also might look into their version of “Without You” which Nilsson covered
Man you got to react to Orleans-Still The One. The lyrics are awesome and you will love it. Come on people lets get this ball rolling. Haha
YES! Still the One. And Dance with Me.
Excellent song!
This song has always found it's way onto my mixs/playlists for years (radio to cassette tape, burned cds, mp3s and on to numerous spotify lists) , absolutely love it.
To me this was a groundbreaking recording. It’s the first song I can remember where the drums are in the forefront sound-wise.
Nice! Just happened to add this track to my Spotify playlist FRISSON COLLECTION, just yesterday.
Beatles feel, indeed. If memory serves, Badfinger was a band that Paul McCartney tipped to the record company.
Baby Blue is their best song
Agreed A.A. Ron! It was played for the last episode of Breaking Bad.
